  1. I was 150 when I was 30 years old, just before starting treatment for infertility issues and then getting pregnant. Got back to 170 3 years later after my second baby, so I'm shooting for 170. I figure best weight of 150 + 10 lbs for each kid = perfect goal weight for me. According to the Medical BW quoted here, I'd be at MBW at 155 (5' 11") so I'm fine with 170. I can't believe I'm only 49 lbs from there!! 100 lbs seemed IMPOSSIBLE. 49 feels like it's so close I can taste it!
  2. I’m 10 days post op from my sleeve surgery. I am have extremely painful gas and bloating. I passed all the post op gas but it just keeps coming back. Not sure if it’s the protein shakes or what. But I am miserable!!!! I am taking gas X but it doesn’t help. Does anyone have any suggestions for relief.
  3. I weighed 230 at high point about 220 at surgery and now am 122lbs. The lowest I went was 114lbs but that was too low! My BMI is around 19 now so I guess I've lost over 100% of excess. I'm 18 months out and had an internal hernia op 3 weeks ago. Have skid back to unhealthy choices and for some reason tummy is not tolerating them. It did for a while! So I'm having to rethink food and toods to food! Thing is, it's where you're happy. Just I guess seize the opportunity - I was very strict with myself and finished losing weight 9 months in. Now I'm realising I still have disordered eating and I can't let go of that. Good luck to you. Even with my scary hernia I still believe I made a good choice. 😀😀😀

    Flinstones multivitamins??

Isn't the song 10 million strong and growing, shouldn't in our case And size-shrinking!
  5. 2 years post op and lost nearly 200 pounds. I have been in a stall for almost a year. I fluctuate about 10 pounds (gain and then loss) but I cannot get below the 190 mark. I have tried everything! I workout 5 days a week, try to stay at 1200 canals although with the excercise calorie adjustment it is usually around 1500c. I feel EXTREMELY guilty when I put anything bad in my mouth but then there a days ( usually once a month) when I will go on a mini binge and have little snacks throughout the day that are completely unhealthy. I love the way I feel but I still have fat brain and I am EXTREMELY frustrated that I can’t drop below 190! Btw...this is my first post, I usually just troll
  6. Thanks for this post... mine started 2 days b4 surgery (8/20) and it's still going on. I'm hoping it's just the stress of the surgery and everything as this is the longest it's lasted in 10 years.

    Dilated Esophagus?

It’s been 6 years since I’ve logged on to this forum which used to be my go to for information! I guess it’s true when things are going good you tend to stay away. Initially, I weighed 238, my lowest with the lap band was 138. 100 lbs! But, i’ve been struggling for the last 3 years, my 19 year old daughter died in a car accident and I guess I just didn’t care anymore. I have put on 50 lbs. it’s not that I’m eating more because I physically can’t. My primary care says it’s hormonal (pre-menopause). I finally after a year went to the doctor and when they checked the band my esophagus is twice it’s normal size and I’m restricted so nothing was done. Basically, I was told to get back to the basics, small bites, chew thoroughly, etc. I guess you forget about that after 6 years!i also have a lot of reflux but the good news is my band is still perfectly placed. Any suggestions? I’ve been doing liquids but at this point, I’m afraid to even eat solids!

Questions on your experience with the Lap Band

Made the choice in 06. Not many other options available then. Also wanted least invasive and adjustable and removable so lap band fit my prerequisite. Slight hair loss at 4-5 months. It did grow right back. I have a hard time with very dry chicken and salads don’t like me sometimes. I knew when I lost weight steadily and it did NOT COME BACK!! That this was the right choice for me. My tools are: this board to and ask things and check in, Drs appts scheduled and kept, sharing a personal trainer 2x weekly, and also going back to shakes when my band acts up. It is the best I can do and I try everyday.... some days or weeks are better than others! Nothing in this life is perfect! Lastly, it is usually the same 5-10 lbs I deal with.... Not 85 lbs!!. Best of luck with your WLS decision.Pick what the Dr and you agree on..
  9. No weird body odor for me. That's interesting! I did have to do Lovenox injections for two weeks post-op. It was easy/fine for the first week or so but the last few days I was so mentally over it that I started having extreme anxiety every time I had to inject myself! I had really horrible belly pain for about 10 days post-op and my left side had (still has) some numbness and nerve pain on the surface of the skin, so I couldn't inject myself there without a lot of pain. Ugh, those last 3-4 days of injections were just awful. But I am deathly afraid of blood clots, and I couldn't walk very much then, so I soldiered through. I definitely looked bruised and beaten. I think a lot of things along this theme of "what they won't tell you" or "what I wish I knew" about surgery are just because each person's experience is so different. For example I had NO gas pain. That was one thing I was 1000% sure I would have and that I prepared extensively for. Nope, not even a minute of it. *shrugs* The best thing we can do is read and research widely to arm ourselves with information but accepting all the while that we will have an entirely unique experience of surgery.
  10. Almost 2 weeks post op. No smells, BO or otherwise. I do have to have injections for blood clots. 20 days of them. In my belly. I was informed of the injections. They are standard procedure with my doctor. The only difference is for how long. Hubby only had to do 10 days.
  11. I took shots, for 10 day post op, but not in my legs. My shots were strictly in my stomach.
  12. That’s actually true. They have done studies that show people who are 10% over their ideal body weight actually live the longest. Yes, but your statement and my statement from the RD are different. Ideal body weight for a woman is medically defined as: 100lbs for the first 5 feet, then 5 pounds for every inch over 5 feet. I'm 5'4" so my ideal body weight is 120lbs. You are saying the studies observe that +10% over ideal body weight which for me would be 132lbs shows no medical disadvantage. The possiblity being that for every pound over 132lbs, there is medical disadvantage. My RD is saying that "what does it hurt to let yourself off the hook." You look great now at this weight (163lbs). So go ahead and get down to the 151lbs (70% loss of EBW -- which is based on ideal weight) and not worry about trying to go lower. Cuz it is not significantly better if you are 10% above "normal weight." Normal weight range is defined for me as anywhere from 108-145lbs depending on which chart you are looking at. And RD is saying that 145lbs +10% is 159-160lbs. I'm betting there are medically significant problems with being at 159-160lbs at my height. I actually experience some of them still--even though they are greatly improved. Just the reduction in weight bearing load alone will improve my arthritis pain from 159-160lbs down to the 130ish area. I will have less fat, so hopefully, my cancer recurrence rate will also improve in the normal weight range. And I may finally be able to ditch my last bp med. My bp is still hangin between 130-145/80. Two completely different weights lol: 132lbs and 160lbs. I bet you felt better when you got to 135lbs than you did at 160lbs? Running was easier? Well, my secret goal is 125-130lbs. But I'm afraid to hope and plan for that cuz I don't want to let myself down. So I set a goal of <145lbs. Anything below it works cuz I will officially be in normal weight territory. Sorry for the math stuff!!! Cheers everyone!

    40 something sleevers?

I just turned 40 and was approved last week. My op date is 9/19. I don’t have regrets about waiting. I love myself more, appreciate the health and wellness impact of my decision more, and I have a more realistic grasp on what I’m getting myself into. 10/20 years ago I was struggling with seeing myself (truly), self concept, and was given to toxic relationships. Now I’m more grounded. This means so much more now than it would have then.

    Gastric sleeve

I've seen some great posts here, so I'm hoping I'll get a response. Sorry that this is so long. I was sleeved end of April. My starting weight was 200lbs. I am 5'5, and 55 years old. I was sleeved in Thailand, because this is where I live now. I wasn't given a liquid diet recommendation, just no alcohol, and watch fat and carb intake. I ate normally the night before surgery. I had broth for 2 days, then they had me on scrambled eggs for two days. After that I ate chicken, regular chicken that I needed to chew a lot. Here I am about 5 months out with a weight loss of 30 pounds. I don't do much cardio, because of a bad knee (the reason for my sleeve was to lose weight for a major joint replacement in October). I lift every other day for 1.5 hours and I use 10 to 20 pound weights for arms and shoulders. I've noticed inches lost, but not nearly as much weight lost as I expected. The only advice the doctor gave me is to cut out all grains, rice, potatoes, dairy, sugar and fruit. In other words, just eat protein and veg. I was told to take a multi-vitamin, iron, and calcium with a D supplement. And drink lots of water. I was very strict the 1st two months (and still no major weight loss), started "slipping" at the beginning of July with oatmeal or whole grain bread once a day. Went a little nuts toward the end of the month with the occasional chocolate and chips, and in August really refocused myself. Still nothing. My average calorie intake is between 850 and 950 right now. I woke up today with sore joints (not sore muscles). Please, I know you aren't doctors (mine is inaccessible, due to location), but I'd appreciate your suggestions. Thank you so much! Also, at times of the day I seriously feel ravenous...not just hungry, but I could seriously eat anything. I'm a lot hungrier during the day than I expected to be.
  15. OMG these have been my favorite for several years. But they're dangerous for me because I love them way too much. I am 10 days post-sleeve surgery right now so hopefully when I get to the stage where I'm allowed to eat them I can do a much better job of controlling myself than I used to.

    Before and After Pics

4 months out. Left is morning of my surgery.SW- 293 right- 8/10/18 65 pounds lost so far.
  17. Had my GB on the 6th so 21/2 weeks out and already lost 19lbs. I am a little surprised that my blood sugar numbers have not come down much farther but maybe because I am still healing. I still get a bit nauseous when I drink water or eat but it is getting a little better. I have found a wonderful protein shake that I really like I just wish I could get a flavor other than chocolate lol. Never in my wildest dreams thought I would be sick of chocolate! It is called Orgain Clean Protein and it is Gluten free, 140 calories, 20g protein 2g fat, 10 carbs, 3 fiber and 4 sugars. It is also Soy free, non-GMO and Grass fed. You can get a big box of 11 oz. Individuals at Costco for like $18. It works ot to admit a $1 a shake if you all are interested. Congratulations to all who have had their surgeries and best of luck to those getting ready. Looking forward to hearing all your experiences. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

    August bypassers/sleevers

I also was 8/10 and down 14 lbs. My doc said the weight will come off in chunks. He said the scale may not move for a week, and then next time u look you’ll be down 10-15. It’ll happen

    October sleeve

Y'all. Y'ALL. Do you realize that (at least at my surgeon's practice) you get to move on to fairly serious exercise at the 4 week/1 month mark? You can swim and lift weights at that point!* We are going to beat the "resolutioners" to the gym! (Or back to the gym, if you're currently up for that! I'm not, but I realize a lot of people who do WLS are.) (I'm a very anxious person. This is a thing I was low-key worrying about, when they were talking about doing my surgery in late November. I was high-key stressed about getting bronchitis and being pushed off into 2019 and having to redo tests and restart on my deductible, but I was a little stressed about doing the surgery on time and then going to the gym a month later and people seeing me as the fat resolutioner. Instead, I'll be the fat normal gym goer in November and December! ) *If cleared. I am not a doctor. My doctor clears people by then, but maybe yours is more conservative. Do what your doctor says.

    Gastric Bypass-No Weight Lost

My bypass surgery was 8/10. I haven’t lost for 5 days. Walking 30 minutes/day, water at 64-80 oz., 300-400 calories, and taking vitamins. I don’t know what else to do?
  22. I've been very diligent about measuring everything since my surgery in June. I'm 2 months post op now and tried an egg scramble for the first time today. It had 1 egg and about 2 ounces (or what I thought was) of soft turkey sausage crumbles, skim mozzarella shredded cheese, and diced soft veggies. I ate slow(ish) and chewed. About 5 minutes after the meal I started to feel horrid... like I had eaten a Thanksgiving dinner for 10 people. I looked at my measurements and I had screwed up ( I thought the portion looked a little big, but I just attributed it to not having worked with eggs since surgery). I had ingested around 4 ounces of food (twice what I normally would have). Let me tell you new folks... The restriction is REAL. I had to sleep it off for an hour and a half. I'm still worried that I injured my poor tummy. Sticking to liquids today...

    October sleeve

I just got my surgery date! (It's been a wild ride, with scheduling it, so this is BIG news for me!) 10/3/18! That feels so soon, since I only just found out about it! I am anxious! But I'm ready. I've done so much preparation, so much reading, so much mental work. And on the physical preparation side of things, I've got some homemade bone broth in the freezer (might need more than I have--maybe I'll order some of that powdered stuff I see other people using), I've got lots of comfy yoga pants and loose shirts, I've got two pairs of walking shoes, I've got a couple of kinds of protein shake (not the "nectar" ones that people on here seem to like so much, but I'll make sure to get an order in before my liquid diet week). I'm ready! Let's do this! ... in a month and change. 😁

GALS who started their journey over 300 lb+<br /> +

OMG LADIES GUESS WHAT! Guess who just got their surgery date! I wrote a long, impassioned plea to my surgical team--who were holding off my surgery until I hit 10% initial weight lost (I'm at 5%, will be below that by another several pounds after a week of liquid diet)--to please try to fit me in before flu season gets going and I get bronchitis and get stuck having to put off my surgery until May (I get bronchitis every winter, and it holds on for months; this is one of many issues I hope will clear up, somewhat, when I am at a lower weight). I don't think they had realized I'd cut back my work hours (I work at a public service desk on campus, where people literally walk up and cough on me -- I've taken leave from that part of my job until after surgery, which leaves me with very few hours per week and a feeling that my employment is in limbo and my coworkers are angry with me), or just how much anxiety this whole shifting dates thing was causing me, because I don't always express myself well on the fly, in person. (Those of you who have seen my long, rambling posts are going "or in writing, either," and I hear you ) They just called and told me they'll give me their first available, which is ... so much better than I had hoped for! I am so happy! And suddenly, just, kind of jittery, because it feels so SOON. The first week of October!!! That is so much better than I'd been expecting/braced for. SO MUCH better! I am over the moon, y'all!
  25. With the sometimes significant loss of tissue That accompanies bariatric surgery, it only makes logical sense that BMR would drop. There is simply less tissue metabolizing nutrients to stay alive. But is there a systemic/hormonal drop in BMR on top of that more mechanical one? Is that why caloric needs for Bariatric patients seems to be relatively lower than the general population? I am a large man even after weight loss, 6 foot one and 230 pounds. Yet my body fat percentage is 19% which is just barely within the normal range. I have very high muscle mass. So according to the inbody analyses I have had done at my local YMCA, my BMR alone based on muscle mass is close to 2600 calories a day. But then I am also super active on top of that, I exercise hard and regularly, and according to the standard model of 1 mile running equals 100 cal burned, it would seem that I would be burning another 500 to 1000 cal a day on top of BMR. But then when I see my dietitian she says my goal should be under 1500 cal of intake. Generally I am under 2000 for sure. And all my food is good quality non processed, protein centric, etc. All of this, and my weight has stayed within 5 pounds for two years. It would seem if the math were as simple as it sounds, I should be losing a lot of weight still. But something seems to be happening metabolically. Does anyone have any knowledge about what percentage of standard BMR having had bariatric surgery reduces?
