Is Early Twenties too young for the lapband?

Thank you so much guys, I know you don't know me but I really feel close to tears. For the most part I've been able to just barely tolerate myself over the years...but now, I've really begun to hate myself. My family has a history of being obese. Some of my family members even have serious medical conditions. One day I just said to myself, "I can't live the rest of my life like this. Some people might not mind being fat, but I've NEVER been happy." I know it's time for me to do something about it. I don't want to get sick, and I'm tired of my weight being a mental and physical handicap. I'm ready for a lifestyle change and I've already taken a positive first step. Thank you for taking the time to respond!

    water aerobics?

I think what the host was saying it was not going to get the many anywhere as far as the rapid weight loss the show likes to imply. i applaud the guy for getting out there, in the Water and just moving at his size. The water aerobics and willing to keep moving is probably what kept him mobile at that point in his life. It is great for burning calories and improving flexibility, but I have to agree for the rapid weight loss they have on the show it would not produce the desired result. With that said, if you are not out there exercising this is a great starting point! I was surprised to find it way to easy for me at my current fitness level, but I enjoy it and still go every other week when I take a break from toning.
  3. March 27, 2015 - Friday Weekend Warm-up It can be helpful to read your Advantages List (a list of all the reasons why you want to lose weight) several times a day throughout the weekend. This will help remind you that while staying on track can be more difficult on the weekend, it’s so worth it! Continually remind yourself why you’re doing this and your motivation will stay high. 4. I have a one year wait. It sucks, lol. At least I've gotten a head start on losing weight during the last five months.
  5. My weight loss halted -- temporarily -- because I was eating too much and eating the wrong kind of food. I kicked myself back into gear and am losing weight again, at two years out. And losing at a pretty good clip, too. I don't think it's the number of months out that matters, it matters what you are eating and how much of it. People, including me, tend to get lax after a while. For me that was about a year out. But the good news is that my tool is still there and it works properly when I treat it with respect. Don't forget that as you get smaller, it takes fewer calories to sustain your body. So you will need to decrease your calorie intake even more to maintain the same level of caloric deficit. If you aren't losing weight, do a brutally honest assessment of everything you are eating and make any necessary adjustments.

    So scared!

I don't even have one yet. I meet with the surgeon on the 1st. I'm trying to get all my paper work for my insurance right now. And I also have to gain 15 more pounds for my insurance to cover it. And that's amazing!! What size did you start? Maybe you're the same body type as me? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  7. hello! I'm 9 months post sleeve and have lost almost 80 lbs, and very happy with my progress, but my weight loss has all but halted the last month or two. My doctor said that after the first 6 months this happens, but I am didn't think it would slow down THIS MUCH! I have not started exercising or anything like that, I know that would help, just wondering if other people are going through this and/or what advice you have to offer regarding it! THANK YOU
  8. @@Bufflehead ... that's great that you're losing weight again after two years post-op. I have read many posts / threads in which people that far out are struggling to get the scale moving down again. Congrats.

Any home daycare providers out there?

That will be tough. You should check with your surgeon....the first thing that comes to my mind is the weight lifting limitation...mine was no lifting of over than 10lbs for the first 4 weeks. Good luck!
  10. Hi Everyone, I know it is such a big step to have Weight Loss Surgery. Then what kind and where are some of our next concerns you must be thinking about. I had WLS 3 years ago in Mexicali, Mexico. I did a lot of research for about 6 months before I made up my mind what doctor I was going to have do it. I also went by myself. I had people who would go with me, but it really was easier and better that I went alone. Some people will want someone to go with them, and that is good too. Do what makes you feel comfortable. I am so pleased that I had this done in 2008. I lost 105 pounds and have kept it off. I want you to know that I am out here to answer any questions that you might have when it comes to Weight Loss Surgery. I had a "sleeve" and honestly that was the best surgery I could have ever had. So please feel free to send me any of your questions that you might have. That is how I educated myself, I asked a ton of questions from a lot of different people. There are no bad questions, and there isn't anything that we can't talk about? Hugs, Suzanne
  11. 50 pounds down today since being sleeved. =) Looking forward to the rest of my weight-loss adventure.

    Plus Size Clothing

@Sosewsue61 Thanks for the tip on Dress Barn, I think there is one near my mom's house. I'll have to check them out. I've never seen a Christopher Banks locally though. @Frustr8 My favorite dress brand is City Chic. Their plus size sizing goes from XS to XL. I'm now fitting into XS, which is they say is equivalent to size 14. Talk about vanity sizing! @Biddy zz Exciting! I'm glad you're enjoying the shopping experience. I'm a devoted online shopper, so I really loathe to go to a mall and find new brands that fit and flatter me! @Roxine So far I have kept the same shape, it has just shrunk. So it has been easy for me to just size down on my favorite brands. I am excited though after my tummy tuck to wear sheath style dresses instead of fit & flare, or wrap around! It'll be nice to not have to always worry about hiding the tummy! Re: Bras ... I am just about needing new ones, ugh. The band still fits, just on a smaller notch, but the cups are gaping a bit. Not where I wanted to lose weight, but to be expected. I have though been able to fit into my "pretty bras" without a band extender. I was measured for them years ago, and they were too tight even back then. But unfortunately they may be pretty, but they are scratchy, so not an everyday solution!

    Is this a Plateau?

I am at an annoying plateau right now myself. I had gained weight from when I had an unfill because I went straight to the fast food drive threw every day. I gained 12 pounds in three weeks so back to the dr. I went to get a fill. I am at a good level now as I try to eat but after a couple of bites feel the stop button and have to wait. I noticed the best weight loss paterns was to go to 1200 calories for two weeks then bump it up for two weeks 1400 calories then back down. It does work but it is not easy when there is a day when the chocolate is calling your name................Darn chocolate. My downfall is chips I LOVE CHIPS>>>>>I have to talk myself out of eating them all the time. They are like Cig for me!! Darn chips^%$^&%^& Good luck and keep the faith and your tool will be a success!!!

    Honeymoon Period

The no hunger part last 5 weeks for me. The greatest weight loss was during the first 8 weeks. I have lost 8-10 pounds per month every month from 8 weeks on so far (knocks on wood)
  16. I had my lapband unfilled for a month prior to the sleeve. My surgeon wanted my stomach to heal before he did the surgery. I gained 15lbs...grrrr. I did great with the lapband, I lost 130 lbs within the first 2 years and had it for 6 years. My stomach stretched though

    Un-fill Lapband before Sleeve Surgery?

I was unfilled before my surgery which is April 30th. I gained 28lbs and I enjoyed everthing I wasn't able to have. Now I am ready for the new me. Counting down the days to a new healthier life and no more fills!
  18. Hi sleevers I have a question to those of you who have been sleeved for months and have stretch marks on ur stomach… I was sleeved just a few days ago… how did ur stretch marks change as you lost ur weight?
  19. I was thinking on updating my passport after I loose a significant amount of weight. More on the vanity side ( lol) but I can see how it can be an issue when traveling abroad if your passport picture does represent the way one look today.
  20. Hi I see that no one answered your post, so I will give you my experience. I originally had a lap-band in 2005. I did not need to do the supervised diet thing, just write a history of my issues with weight loss and re-gain. (I think my insurance was either aetna or united health care) I am now getting the band removed. My current insurnace provider, anthem blue cross blue shield, just says that I need to show "medical Necessity". Nothing said about a supervised diet. Hope you are getting the answers you need, Lisa

    Stairs!

I can so relate to the stairs issue. I have a bad knee as well & with my pre-surgery weight would "plan" my trips up and down the stairs in our home. Now, my knee hardly hurts and all & I am up and down those stairs all the time. Congratulations to you!!!!

    Stairs!

Thanks to some genetics and my weight, I have rather bad knees and back problems. The result was I would get really tired just going up one flight of stairs - and would try to avoid them whenever possible. I couldn't walk more than 5 minutes without getting winded. I couldn't even stand in place for 5 minutes without breaking out in a sweat. Then I had VSG. Today - just 2.5 weeks after surgery, I was moving some stuff into my new apartment. I totally forgot about the stairs. There are 4 steps up to the front entrance, then 8 more down to my floor. I did all 12 steps at least 8 times today (both ways - so 16 times total I suppose)! I also unpacked my trunk twice taking stuff into the apartment and putting it away immediately. For me, this is a MAJOR NSV! Boy am I tired now though. Oh, and because I forgot to pack my lunch, I stopped at Big Boy for lunch (plus I wanted to sit in air conditioning for a bit - my apartment has air, but no furniture yet). I ordered the Grilled chicken dinner that came with 2 sides (I chose cottage cheese and baby carrots). My eyes are still bigger than my stomach. I barely made it through the cottage cheese (which was about 1/2 cup). So, I asked for a box when the waitress brought my meal and immediately packaged up the chicken and the carrots that turned out to be glazed carrots. I left the roll on the plate. My "doggie bag" will be at least 3 meals for me - I just have to puree it first. So although I'm really tired, I am proud of myself today. Now to rest up a bit (my back is really bothering me right now, so I'm resting) and then re-pack the car with more stuff for moving tomorrow. At least tomorrow my furniture will arrive at some point in the afternoon, so I'll have a chair to sit on!

Looking for a fill doctor in the Seattle Area

:bananapowerslide: Oh, I don't take offense. But Smart Bandsters is not the same as NWWLS. We have members from all over the US, Canada, Europe, Australia & New Zealand, the Middle East and China. Many are banded in Mexico. All are welcome - :welcomeB: And while Jessie, a diabetic and lapband educator, successful bandster and fill tech since 1997, author of a lap band handbook recommended by many doctors, is a source of sound wisdom born of her knowledge of the experiences of thousands of bandsters, she is not the owner and, believe me, more than a little :fencing: goes on on the list! :paranoid But we are all striving for the same thing --- helping one another achieve goal and maintain goal. We have had a recent spin-off for those more than a year out who have failed to ever reach goal, even those who stalled just a short ways out after surgery. It has taken off very strong for list less than a week old. We talk about food CHOICES, not "mistakes". Some choices are good :clap2: and some, not so good. :think But we never rag on one another for gaining :hungry: , but help one another work out what's going on and lend encouragement to one another to try, try again. :cheer2: Jessie is harder on herself than she is on any patient... And she is mellowing, too. And for everyone who let's their guilt get triggered, there are are the ones who love her for her unpaid devotion to our list. We are her apostles.
  24. Being able to breath easier to me was one of the best NSV's. You will notice more and more how good it feels when you're not carrying around that excess weight. Gratz on the 20 lbs.
