Anyone else get bad anxiety before going somewhere where your size may be an issue? I'm going to see a comedy show at the local theater and I'm so anxious that I won't fit in the seats. My husband has been looking forward to this all week but I'm so scared I won't fit.

Hi all, I'm scheduled for my endoscopy on Monday at 10:15am. I woke up today with a sore throat this morning and little bumps in the back of my mouth. I feel perfectly fine otherwise but now I'm really nervous that they will cancel my procedure. Did this happen to anyone? If so, did they still see you even though you didn't have any other symptoms? This whole process has been overwhelming for me. I found out last week that I need my gallbladder removed because of gallstones. I really can't afford a set back Thanks for listening and sharing your experience if you have one.

how long have you been banded.. ?? sorry, ive forgotten. so you dont rely to much on meat for protein?? im starting to wonder if i can. i put some lamb chops in a slow cooker for about 6 hours. they were cooked slowly and the meat was tender... but when i ate one mouthful it got stuck. i chewed like there was no tomorrow.. lol. but it still got stuck. it took about 15 minutes to clear. it put me right off eating my tea. i just made a protein shake. So.. now ive discovered that fish poached, lamb slow cooked, dont go down well with me. i know im not six weeks banded yet. maybe it will change?/ i hope so. i like my meat. How does the jerky go?? i would have thought it would be very tough and stringy??

My Dr. was Thomas Brown at CBSI. Who is yours? Three days of Clear liquids was the only pre-op diet I had to do. The Jello did not do much for me, but the broth helped keep the hunger at bay. Try different flavors, I actually found one chicken broth that was Thai lemongrass flavored. Awesome but very high sodium. Good luck! Stick to the diet! :smile2: -

New member 6 weeks post op
Jolanda replied to Jolanda's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Update here: I'm now nearly 8 months post surgery and I can honestly say that this was the best decision of my life. I've lost 84 pounds since my weigh-in the morning before the operation and just last week I tipped the scales within the "normal" BMI range. I feel great, look better than ever before and haven't really had any issues beyond the original complications immediately after the surgery. I keep buying clothes as my old ones keep getting too big very fast - I think the money saved on food goes on clothes these days! I'm aiming at losing about 12-15 pounds more but I'm eating a little more already as I'm not sure how easy it is to stop losing weight. To anyone still wondering whether to take the plunge, I say: go for it. There are risks involved but living with obesity is risk filled too. -
I'll be watching the answers, my surgery is next week.

So it must just be a normal point to stall. Hopefully it'll pass soon. -
Practical Immediate After Surgery Activity Question
aaa replied to Gregorio Punderschmidt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to say, I was pretty much a zombie for the first two or so weeks out. The difficulty sleeping and the tiny, tiny amount of calories in from such small amounts of liquid left me with no energy until I moved on to more food and Protein shakes. 45 mins walking around the shops a day left me exhausted and achy! Not to mention I was 'hobbling like an old woman' as my mother so kindly put it as it was difficult to stretch and bend properly due to incisions. I personally would have had trouble getting any significant amount of Protein shake stuff in that early post op, but like everyone says, it depends on the person. Just don't push yourself too hard! Concentrate on getting you better and build yourself up for when you feel ready to do more. -
10 days out sleeve not very restrictive?
hopeandfaith replied to hcwiu's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Anna is right! Plus, whatever you are eating or drinking do it SLOW! Give it time to hit and fill your tummy. If I eat fast I can pack it down then when it hits OMG I'm STUFFED but when I eat slow I don't eat as much! I'm six weeks out and go for my check up today! -
Practical Immediate After Surgery Activity Question
Used2b575lbs replied to Gregorio Punderschmidt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How would you be getting to your vacation? My doctor told me not to fly for 3 months... I also know someone who went from NC to NY a week or two after surgery and ended up having to go in the hospital due to ulcers. A vacation that soon after surgery probably isn't a good idea on many levels it took me 7-10 days to adjust between the hospital and at home and I wasn't able to walk comfortably in the heat due to not getting in enough fluids... Dehydration may also be a risk. It's up to you but to me it's not worth the risk of all the possible complications... and I am usually all for letting loose and having fun! -
Update: I went in for my bloodwork and started my liquid diet last week. I'm having a little trouble, just because all the acceptable foods are either sweet (i don't like sweets at all), or, i'm drinking the low-sodium broth to help with my salty food cravings (and... gross). The Bari-Essential powder they gave me is good, but i've had trouble getting all 4 shakes per day in, just because they are sooo sweet. Tomorrow I go to "pre-surgery class", which i assume will be a what-to-expect session with a Q&A. I feel a little light headed and a tad weak today, so i'm going to make sure i take those shakes, since i'm sure it's just that i'm not getting the nutrients i need today. My mom is coming into town on Friday, and will stay with me over the weekend and through my first week. She's a nurse, so I feel like I'll be in good hands

Practical Immediate After Surgery Activity Question
AutumnLily replied to Gregorio Punderschmidt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to say that one week out I was exhausted. I could do some activities but nothing like lots of walking. It depends on the person. You may feel fine to do all this walking. I would personally ask my doc what he recommends. Yes you should be having high protein drinks while on the liquid phase. I have never tried muscle milk but have heard some people like it. You might want to try it before you buy a case of it. -
I am a band to sleeve revision. I was happy with my band for a long time and lost a good amount of weight. Then it malfunctioned after my pregnancy and never worked again. I can tell you that in my experience so far (6 years banded and now 11 weeks post sleeve) that it is much easier to eat around the band than the sleeve, and my weight loss is faster (so far at least) even though I have always been a "slow loser". I think personally that the sleeve is a better surgery. The band is safer if you are worried about major complications like leaks. But long term people seem to have more problems with the band and the most recent research I have heard indicates that more than 50% have the band removed by 5 years post op, mostly either due to slip, erosion, or inadequate weight loss. Of course, these are my opinions based on my experience and what I have heard from other band folks. The band is an attractive idea but doesn't seem to work as well in practice. Good luck to you.

I was banded on St. Patty's day too! Can I ask how your weight loss is coming? It's been 2 weeks now and I've only lost 9 pounds since the actual day of the surgery, is that normal?

Which blender should I get?
LipstickLady replied to AuntJoJo64's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got a bullet and returned it because it was hard to clean. (Not THAT kind, the blender kind. I love my THAT kind.) Bought a Ninja thinking it would do more. Returned it because I didn't use it for anything my blender couldn't do. Bought a food' processor. Returned it. Too many pieces. I used my regular old blender a few times, and my immersion blender much more often because it was easier to clean. I needed a blender for all of three weeks and I didn't need another appliance on my counter. Don't over buy. You won't need half the crap you think you do. -

How long til cleared for travel?
jencomenz replied to jencomenz's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks everyone for your insite! I think that I knew in my heart what the answer was, but I didn't want to admit that I might be waiting until July for the first day of the rest of my life. I will set my cut off date at 12 weeks and that would mean unless by some miricle I'm approved in early March then I will be stuffing myself silly on this cruise -
2 Year Surgiversary & 150 Pounds Gone! (With pics)
livvsmum replied to livvsmum's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Unfortunately I do think about weight a lot. I struggle with an eating disorder and am in therapy every single week to beat it, so yes, my struggle with food is still a daily battle. I think that was one of the only disappointing things to me about surgery.....to get to goal and realize that you are still the same person with the same struggles as you were on day one. That is frustrating, but I know that it will get better if I keep working on it. As for what life is like, I've been "maintaining" for about 5 1/2 months now. I do fluctuate within a couple pounds, but I think that is normal. As for gaining weight back, my absolute lowest weight was 123 and I'm up about 5 pounds from that right now. But it was after my TT and I wasn't really eating anything, so it wasn't a "true loss" if you know what I mean. Plus I think looking back I looked a bit too thin at 123. I'm more comfortable maintaining for the long run around 129-130. Could I get back down to 123? Absolutely, but it would be through strict calorie/carb/protein counting and that is kind of counter intuitive to trying to beat an eating disorder. Sooooo yeah. I am trying to find balance. :-) Good luck to you. You look amazing! -
bunny: Sounds like you fell off the wagon pretty hard. But you still have the band. Make it work for you. Start all over. I have seen some bandsters that will use the 5 day pouch test like the gastrics use to get back into shape. Just like the Protein diet yoiu were on prior to the surgery. Am am 14 months out down 65, I feel like I exercise all the time. I only lose 2.5 lbs month now but I am still losing. I am about 8 lbs from goal. I am in the gym 5x week and walk 1.25 hrs EVERY day. I have a food addiction, I like to eat. I try to focus on different routines to keep me away from "bad choices". This band is meant to help with that addiction for the rest of my life. Or whenever Idecide I don't like food anymore. New journey. hang on and get set for the long haul. Good luck, It is work , but it is worth it!!:tongue2:

Great explanation. If you're still losing a pound a week, that's not a true plateau. I know it sucks to only lose 4lbs in a month... that hasn't happened for me YET since surgery, but it's happened to me plenty of times in the past with diets. Hold on to that four lbs a months because in five months, you'll be at your goal weight! I'm at five months out, and I'm terrified about hitting a plateau soon. Just my past I guess. So i'm already preparing for what I need to do to get past it. Typically when we hit a plateau, we need to change something up. Look up different types of workouts or do two-a-days (cardio for 20-30 minutes twice: once in the morning, once in the evening), or add heavier weights to our routine or more reps or try a new routine all together. Maybe have a cheat meal. I've read about zig-zag dieting where you allow yourself more calories one day. So if you're eating 800 calories a day, maybe try getting 1,000 on Saturday then back to 800 on Sunday. I've heard it's a shock to the body and can trigger weight loss. Good luck!

I have found that a variety of protein as well as caloric intake, whether up or down, when you hit a stall seems to bounce things around. I dont ever make a habit of it. Dont want to get into a habit of grazing and not exercising... congrats!!!

Still in pain.....
Tauruslady5 replied to momoftwins+1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The pain you are feeling is from the gas they put into your abdomen cavity before surgery. To make it better, stop taking the pain medicaiton and WALK, WALK, WALK. It took me three/four days before it was finally gone. I thought I was having heart problems, but it was not. Just relax and breathe......................
