  1. I totally didn't care for the texture or taste. Having it get stuck, was awful, because I kept getting the taste of it - I'm doing lots of research for smooth mushy (vegetarian) recipes to get me through the next three weeks in hopes to fair better than these last two days. I'll be okay, it's just a new tool to learn how to live with. Physically, I barely had any pain, so mentally I forget that I've had my insides totally re-routed!

    No April Fool's

Ok, it's the beginning of April so it's no better time to start. I have scheduled all my appointments but am worried that my "doctor supervised" 6 month diet stint will not be accepted because it was 4 1/2 years ago. I started in July of 03 & ended in Nov. 04 with those. I lost 62 lbs but of course have gained most of it back. I''m excited and scared and yesterday being the first of the month I wanted to be "good" and all I could think about was ice cream from Culvers. Which went went and had along with cheezeburgers and fries for dinner. I disgust myself. Get some control girlfriend.! I think it's just because I'm like you have about 3-4 weeks to eat what ever you want so get it out of your system. I had to gain 10 lbs to hit the 40 BMI so now that thought process is lingering ... I need to get over it quick because I feel like CRAP!!!

    It's Just a Tomato

ok, I realize this is small but I just ate a tomato in my salad. I'm sitting here in Panera bread & I ordered 1/2 sandwich & 1/2 salad and I DIDNT ask for them to remove the tomato. I'm making the transition to eating healthier. Now, I hate tomatoes. I'm making the pathway to the healtheir me and I'm very proud of it. Even though in my mtg this morning I had 6 cookies .... I can still rebound and make healtheir choices. Just last week I would have just blown the whole day off and said ... tomorrow I'll try harder and I won't fail. Well, today I thought I'm going to type into my blog and I want to have a trend towards the positive and there you go. The tomato - who knew!?!?!?
  4. I had surgery a couple of days ago and still no bowel movement. The dr said it can take 2-4 weeks. I cant bear it. I take vitamins but nothing is helping. What helped for you?
  5. lotstolose

    Gassy :(

2-4 weeks is definitely to long to go without a bowel movement. I had the same problem and when I called my Dr., I was told to to take a small amount of liquid MiraLAX and it worked great. I know a lady who had the surgery and was put in the hospital with blockage after not having a BM after 13 days. As for the gas, it does eventually get better, but I still have more gas now than before my surgery. Good luck.
  6. If you don't count the year of decision making for me, my process would have taken right around 5 weeks. It took about a week for the insurance to approve me but all of my tests (psych, nut, consult) were available right away... like within a day or two of me calling to make an appointment. That may be unusual but it worked out. I'm going on vacation at the end of this month so I opted to push my surgery back a couple weeks... but I don't see why you couldn't accomplish everything quickly. And, of course, research, research, research! This is not the surgery for everyone!

    Liquid diet

Is it accurate that you have only lost 4lbs on a liquid diet for 4 weeks or have you just not updated you ticker?
  8. I can relate to the liquid diet being more difficult the second tome around. I think it is. Because we had restriction from the band and accepted that as normal. Then poof it is all gone when you get unfilled. my surgery date is 11/21, so I have just over a week to go.

    July 10 2015 sleeves...

Thanks for this updated post Congrats to all of you my July Pals!! You all are doing great!!!! I was sleeved on July 21st and down 38 lbs. I too, struggle with the Protein. Getting my Water in hasn't been as bad as a problem, because I start my day with water. Eating isn't an issue either. I return for my appointment next week, so this should be exciting. I do not have an trouble with foods and according to my medical team's instructions, I'm in maintenance. As I was having joint problems prior to surgery, I hope to be able to walk more and more as the weight drops. I too stalled at week 3 and it lasted until week 5. But no more since. It's been a consistent 2-3 lbs every 6 days or so. I'm excited and happy! I wish i would have measured my inches because most of my clothes are falling off and the inches are definitely noticeable--have no plans to make purchases until I absolutely have too The best to all of you as we continue our journey!

    Approved today!

Wish you lick. It is very exciting. I had my last week on the 10th. Finished my 12 classes, two weeks later met with surgeon, he had A cancellation for the next week, so I didn't have time to get scared or nervous.
  11. As said above I'd wait 1 more week before eating. Concentrate on fluids and protein drinks. The hiccups you describe I call hiccburps and they can be loud and hurt a bit, slow down your intake. I have terrible lactose intolerance now so might be why i hated the ricotta bake, when i have dairy it is like i am having severe dumping syndrome! There is no rush to be on solids your main focus needs to be fluids and protein, so take a deep relaxing breath and let your body heal and increase solids slowly x

    Not doing so well

I'm 3 weeks out so this is all new to me but one thing I have realized it is really important to stay focused on what you eat. Don't have distractions when you sit down for a meal. This next part sound dumb but as I take a bite of something don't forget that you took the bite - stay with it! . I realized that before surgery I had become this unconscious eating machine; bite, quick chew, then swallow. Now I take my time stay with the fact I just put food in my mouth until I chewed it and swallowed it. This is helping me take smaller bites and get all the nutritional value out of what I eat by chewing more! Hope this helps. Best wishes..

    My new Journey

Welcome Rocio, your journey so far has been fast. Did you do a lot of research first, if you did not have time then use this site to get answers to questions. There is a search facility and lots of answers - you will find that the same questions come up on a regular basis. I would suggest that you look at the following to get started 3 week stall Depression after surgery/buyers remorse What to eat on purée/soft diet stage If you do have any questions then just post them and you will find that there are lots of helpful people on this site who have lots of experience. There is one thing I would urge you to do and tat is to take your measurements, you will find periods when the scale does not move and when this happens recheck your measurements and you will find you have lost inches. Also claim this weigtloss journey for yourself and do not try to compare yourself to others and their weigtloss, you will ALWAYS find someone who loses faster than you and if you compare yourself it is easy to get down. Your body will lose weight at the rate that is best for you - keep on mind that your journey may take longer than you think. Again welcome, this is a brilliant site. Cathy
  14. I had LB surgery in 7/2011 and have so far been extremely pleased with the results. I have lost nearly 70 pounds, found a lot of confidence, and the love of my life. I also got a super great job. Life has been very good to me. My only question is whether I should visit my surgeon one last time?? I am moving out of state to join my fiance. I will be changing insurance companies and my surgeon will be >500 miles away. I am not in need of a fill ( I had three and have a decent level of restriction; my last fill was in November of 2011.) and I am not having any problems other than the occasional left shoulder pain when i over do it on my food intake. My current insurance runs out at the end of the month when I move away. I don't know if it would be beneficial just to see my surgeon for a check up??? Also, does anyone know of any surgeons in Columbus OH who sees out of state lap banders?
  15. Thank you both for the great questions, they really helped and I am more than ready! T minus 2 weeks and counting!
  16. Here's a list of questions (with recent updates) that I posted quite some time ago. Since you're coming up on your last appointment you'll likely have answers to some of these already but hopefully you'll find others that will prove useful. What are the risks? How often do patients have complications following surgery? What side effects are the most common? What are the benefits? What should I expect after surgery? Realistically, what weight loss should I expect following surgery and over what period of time? What are "stalls" or "plateaus"? How long do they last and if I do experience them, what can I do to shorten their duration? Will any new technology be used e.g. robotics? Is the hospital and surgeons office accredited by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP)? This is a combination of the programs formerly offered by two highly respected surgical societies - The American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). Beginning in 2012, this accreditation replaced the former Bariatric Centers of Excellence. Are you board certified in bariatric surgery? How many roux-en-y gastric bypass surgeries have you performed? Have you experienced any surgery related mortalities? Do you have patients that are willing to share their weight loss surgery experiences, positive and negative? What types of support groups and counseling will be available post-op? What information can you give me to help family and friends better understand the surgery? How often do you see your patients following surgery? What is the significance of Protein following surgery? Does your practice offer support services for psychological needs? What assistance is available for helping me secure insurance approval? Who should I speak with regarding insurance related questions? What pre-op testing will be done? What post-op testing will be done? Will I need Vitamins after my surgery and if so, what types? When can I start exercising after my surgery? How likely is it that I will regain weight after surgery? Think of the meeting with your surgeon as an interview. You're looking for an answer to "Why are you and your team the most qualified for the job?" You're gonna love the new you!!
  17. My mother is set to have sleeve May 20. To show her support and practice I'm doing the two week liquid diet with her. I plan to have sleeve in Aug or sept. We only started today. Oh my I'm not a cry baby however I am STARVING. The Protein drink was awful. So I'm concerned with doing this for two plus weeks. Seeking suggestions. Thanks you

When to give up Diet pop?

Yes, Veterans Day, a good thing to remember. I would drink as much as you want all the way up to your surgery, because afterwards you will have to let it go for at least three or four months and very little then. I would take the suggestion of Lissa to switch to decaffeinated the last week though, you won't need the headaches on top of every thing else.
  21. About 2 weeks ago that happened to me and after talking with my dietician we figured out I wasn't eating enough. So as I have increased my calories I have started losing again! Talk to your dietician! They really can help! Good Luck!

    Wondering What Is Wrong.

First, this is going to be a long journey and you will have hills and valleys. It's not going to be a steady stairway to skinny heaven. And I mean looooonnnnggg journey. So never fret over a week or two setback. Carolina is right. You can no longer gulp your food or even liquids. Some of us can, but you sound like you still have a lot of inflammation around your band so slow down and take it easy. The clear sticky stuff you PB'd(productive burp) is your body's mechanism to aid stuck food through your esophogus. More on that when you start getting fills and get stuck. It's OK to spit it out. It's not OK to have PB with every meal but it will happen many times if you are normal. tmf

    16 Days Post Face Lift

I found a surgeon in Costa Rica the same way I found Dr. Aceves in Mexicali. I began with an internet search, found 5 or 6 names that kept cropping up as good surgeons, and researched the heck out of each one. Then, I had a couple of plastic surgery consultations here in California, and what I wanted to have done was going to cost 14,500. In Costa Rica I paid 8300, plus 1300 for the recovery facility I stayed in for two weeks post-op. I highly recommend my surgeon, he has a great aesthetic eye. My neck is still hard and tight and I am numb from in front of my ears to the middle of my cheeks. The sensory nerves are regrowing and sometimes feel like little sparks going off, or like someone poking me with a pin, but I usually don't notice unless I am trying to fall asleep. I am still slightly swollen but only I can tell. None of my friends has said anything other than that I look like I have lost more weight (I haven't, it was having the saggy skin removed that made my face slimmer). I think my best friend suspects but she will wait for me to tell her. I would, except I know she wants a lift but she and her husband can't afford it right now and I don't want to flaunt my good fortune.
  24. Hey guys, I am a few weeks over my 5 month PO from VSG and let me tell you I have not really regretted this surgery. On sunday's, I allow myself a "cheat" day so I don't stall and it helps to drop me in lbs for some odd reason. On average, I am about 950-1150 calories a day and on a low-carb diet. Sometimes I feel like this is on target for where I should be, but then there are days where I feel sooo hungrrrryyy and but then my stomach is telling me I'm full. Where are you guys at with your progress? Stats are listed and are up to date.

    Sinus infection

I had a sinus infection about a week and a half after surgery, didn't have any steroids, but did have an antibiotic and took over the counter Dayquil with no problems. Good Luck.
