I am in the early stages and I would also add: nut butters, Popsicles, pudding, V8, Jello, yogurt. Actually, there isn't much difference between my meals and my Snacks.

    I Need Help!

I know how you feel. I used to really enjoy food and now most of it makes me sick. I can have a few bites (like 3-4) of almost everything, but more than that I'm throwing up if there is any butter, fat, sugar, or anything that is actually good tasting in the food. I have made myself feel better about this by really learning to enjoy those few bites and being happy that I am now at goal weight. I've gotten to a point where I don't really crave sweets anymore because they make me feel horrible and I've never loved fried things or buttery things, so in the end things worked out ok for me. I have however found slider foods that I can eat way more than I should of so I try to be very careful around crackers, cheese puffs (the healthy kind), and Chex Mix. I can eat the whole bag in a day without getting sick, so I just don't keep it around the house. There are also some healthy things that I consistently can eat without getting sick. Turkey chili, marinara based sauce over zuchini Pasta, turkey with cheese, a Protein shake I really like which has almond milk and greek yogurt as two of the ingredients, and other protein dense things. You will find things you enjoy eating again and that don't make you feel poorly, it just takes time.
  8. Between y'day & today, I've been dealing with some nausea... Today is a little worse than y'day. I know I can eat some more. Barely had a half of a chicken breast for dinner and I feel so nauseas. All I want is to just drink. Water. Nothing else. However I still need to get my proteins I'm for the rest of the day. Aside from that concern, in general I DON'T want to eat... At all... I'm tired of just proteins and in fact I believe that is actually why I'm getting nauseated when due to eat or am eating. I cannot just do proteins drinks bc I don't want to develop a textural issue with food and need my body to 'want' to eat and chew... Anyone else have this issue? What do you eat for your soft moist proteins to get thru this time? Fyi: I dislike immensely, Greek Yogurt and ricotta...

Did you have to cut ALL starches?

@@LiberalInAZ I had a great experience at Scottsdale H/care and I've only heard good things about Banner - best of luck! Re the carbs: My NUT said no carbs because it causes the cravings others have mentioned. Since my bypass 4 months ago, I'd say our grocery bills have gone down. While I eat a lot of cottage cheese, Greek yogurt and fruit, it's way cheaper than the fast food I used to live on. Best of luck w/your journey!

I walked a 5k at the gym yesterday. scale keeps bouncing. Today I had eggs for Breakfast, almonds and yogurt parfait for lunch. Probably going out for Greek food tonight. I'll stick with a feta salad and saganaki if we do. No bread. I plan to hit the gym on the way home for another treadmill 5k. It takes me an hour. I feel so good when I'm done. My knees are sore but not painful.
  11. Had my surgery one week ago today. I've always knows I'm sensitive to anesthesia and pain-meds (both make me nauseous), so I spent the first 24 hours after surgery vomitting up blood. It was horrible because of all the stomach muscle contractions that are involved in vomiting. I told them to remove my pain medicine IV, because the pain of throwing up was way worse than the pain of the surgery incisions. I've just taken Tylenol since surgery. Today is the first day I could sit up using my stomach muscles instead of relying on my arms to push me up, which is awesome. My bruising is pretty much gone and I feel good. Down 10 pounds. Eating has been weird. Sometimes, even if it's the very first thing I've had to eat all day, after one bite (of say yogurt or milk) my stomach sends me a pain-like signal that it's extremely full. But other times I can eat half container of yogurt and be fine. It seems like all my stomach receptors are confused and out of wack. I'm sure that will become more normal over time. Another thing I've experienced a lot is bloating, gas, a feeling of air-type pressure in my chest, and burping. The doctor says it's pretty common and that sometimes people develop a bit of lactose-intolerance due to all the dairy. I eat Gax-ex chewables several times a day and it never seems to go away. Yesterday I tried some ground turkey in hopes that could start swapping out meat for all this dairy I've been consuming, and surprisingly I tolerated the turkey just fine. Even better than yogurt it seems, so I'm going to start incorporating that. I haven't been exercising enough, just walking around the house, grocery store, etc. I tried a couple days after surgery but got tired very fast. I think today could be the first day I'm able to go for a real walk. The person who posted they are walking 4-5 miles day was a real kick in the butt for me, so thanks for the motivation. I've been good about staying hydrated until yesterday, I knew I hadn't had much water and I was SOOO tired. So I won't be letting that happen again. Because I'm not able to eat 3 whole meals a day right now, I feel like I'm eating/drinking all the time to compensate, which makes me feel like I'm not going to loose weight. That and I'm super bloated so I feel huge. I know that's in my head, but I'm looking forward to things getting more normal and the pounds to start coming off with some consistency.

Help, dont know what to eat!

In addition to my post above, if you don't have access to protein supplements, you will have to focus on high-protein foods: yogurt, soft cheeses, milk, meat, seafood/fish, beans, etc.
  13. --Greek yogurt --scrambled or poached eggs --milk --kefir --cottage cheese --pureed meat (puree with broth or a flavorful sauce to make it tasty, heat it up a little and melt some cheese on top). --refried Beans I don't know if you can meet your goal but you should be able to get close if you focus on high Protein foods and don't waste valuable stomach space on grains or other high-carb foods like fruit or potatoes. On purees, I was allowed high protein food only. Everything had to be pureed in a food processor except yogurt, cottage cheese, poached or scrambled eggs, and refried beans. Every plan seems to vary though! --edited for spelling
  14. Hi everyone! My name is Jamie and I am new here. I read this forum a lot prior to surgery but never registered. Thank you all for being so helpful with such a huge decision! I am 36 and married with no children. I have a high level position with a national catering company and have been event planning for over ten years. I had my surgery on May 11th. I know this is a crazy question - but how do I know I am full? I don't feel hungry so I am not entirely sure when I feel full either. I called my nurse a few days ago because I could drink fluids (and soup) easily and I was afraid I would stretch out my stomach. She said not to worry about it. When I did my one week post-op appointment they added watery grits and oatmeal and greek yogurt. I have had 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup but I am worried that I cant tell when I am full until I am too full. Does anyone else experience this?

  17. I'm a little over a week out, and am on the mushies diet (Greek yogurt, eggs, cheese...). I noticed if I drink something too fast or too thick it hurts, this also goes for the mushies. Is pain the new signal of feeling full? Because I don't feel anything. I have no clue what my personal limit is... I just know it hurts to eat a good chunk of the time. So I purposely hold back on everything, keeping portions small... Well, because I just don't know, what to feel?
  18. I don't feel guilty about anything, as it's everything in moderation. But my "must haves ?" Hot tea in the morning with Splenda and creamer, or a Keurig Chai Latte.....mmmmmmmmmm. My other must haves would be anything "ice creamy" like WW ice cream or frozen yogurt, and most chocolate , like milk chocolate, white chocolate , MnM's, Snickers etc

    1 month post op

I'm eating baked or grilled chicken, eggs, yogurt, cheese stick, oatmeal, I tried cooked broccoli and green beans and both were ok. I'm just really nervous to try more/different things. I had horrible horrible heartburn and my sleeve was just so grumpy and I had 1 salt less cracker and omg that was a mistake. I just feel like when I see/hear others they are just eating much more. I also can only take about 2-3 baby spoon bites and have to wait a good 20 mins to eat more. My mother made me a grilled chicken cutlet and I was determined to eat the whole thing even if it took me all day and it really did. I haven't been meeting my protein or liquid goals and I had to stop with the protein shakes bc they bothered my kidneys and I ended up in the er in horrible pain. So now I'm just really looking for ideas of foods I can make and will sit well. This weekend I am going to start weekly preps so hoping that helps.

Gastric Sleeve to MGB in 18 days

I did one week of clear liquids, one week of full liquids (protein shakes and cream soups, yogurt) then a week of purée like apple sauce and really runny mashed potatoes and then a week of cottage cheese, refried beans type foods before moving onto soft regular foods.

5 days out - Are Eggs ok?

I am 6 days post op and saw my surgeon for follow up today. The protein shakes which I have loved for the last year were getting the best of me and it was at the point I could barely get them down. I tried salmon and it was the best 2oz of salmon I have EVER had! I have also had Greek yogurt. I noticed that the salmon filled me up much more than 5 oz of Greek yogurt. Tomorrow I am going to make it my job to get in all my protein and water without a single dip of a protein shake.

    2 Tablespoons of Food. Really?

I struggle to eat protein I am always ending up eating carbs or something quick There are lots of "quick" options that are high protein. Ready-to-drink shakes and Protein Bars are VERY quick. My go to Snacks are nuts, string cheese, light greek yogurt, and meat sticks (like beef sticks, but I usually go with turkey).

  24. Hello Lisa’s Hope! I was one of your caring supporters during your darkest days when you first lost your husband. It is so good to see your post today! Most importantly—although it might not feel like it to you, you HAVE made tremendous progress in clawing your way back from your devastating loss. I know sometimes I get so tired of people telling me how “resilient” I am. Do you ever feel that way too? But, I personally believe that our lost loved ones want us to honor them in the best way there is, and that is to live out our lives joyfully in peace, and in the present day, not stuck in the past or in what could have been. OK--about your weight regain. YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE! Thousands upon thousands of people who go through far less traumatic experiences than you have REGAIN much more than 38 lbs. Some people LOSE a lot of weight during major emotional trauma. That’s who we are. Emotional humans. It doesn’t make us failures. I just want to share some of my thoughts with you because you've been through so much and I just wish you future happiness and contentment in your WLS life. Your post was really just venting and you didn't really ask for this advice, so I hope you don't find my post offensive. Have you thought about paying more attention to the negative talk you are telling yourself? It can really keep us weighed down (no pun intended) emotionally. Just a couple thoughts as you try to get yourself "Back to Basics:" The FIRST step to reclaim control of your eating habits is to BE KIND TO YOURSELF. The SECOND step is to focus on TODAY’s eating only. Not what happened yesterday. The THIRD step might be to actually sit down and make a written list of the exact foods that you KNOW are the biggest culprits that are most contributing to your weight gain. (This is a tough get-real moment for a lot of us). It might be that you need to go “cold turkey” and totally eliminate these foods until you reach your desired weight. Get them out of the house. Meanwhile, you find some acceptable substitutes for these foods so you don’t feel deprived. (Write the healthy substitute next to the culprit food.) For instance, you mentioned Fudgesicles—maybe find a recipe for frozen Greek yogurt drops. If you are near a Sams Club or Sprouts market, Fresh N Easy, check out Enlightened frozen bars—a satisfying 3.5 oz bar for Cal=80, Fat=2.5g,Carb=15g, Fib=5g, Sug=3g, Pro=9g. The FOURTH step is to be ready to commit to doing what it takes to consume your healthy 3 meals/2 Snacks per day, within your calorie/protein allotment. Do you have good bari recipes? Maybe visit www.theworldaccordingtoeggface.com for starters. Yep, preparing 3 meals and 2 snacks is a lot of work, but we learn to be smart about it by planning ahead, cooking ahead, freezing portions, etc. Makes it almost painless! It is never too late to get rid of your old unhealthy eating habits and create the new, healthy habits and lifestyle that the long-term WLS patients use to maintain their weight. You most likely did not have the time and dedication to establish those good, solid habits back then because you were in the throes of dealing with your husband’s illness. So, now is YOUR time. (Fad) DIETS don’t work! (No disrespect to those who post on here who use the 5:2. I know many of you find it very useful—I’m not calling it “fad”). We had WLS so we don’t have to be on DIETS for the rest of our lives. I've found that the formula for WLS eating is really pretty simple: Use food as fuel and medicine for the body. Our bodys' cells and systems know how to process real, whole foods to keep our health and weight in balance. It does not know what to do with all the processed junk food that we feed it, and the results are very predictable (weight gain; potential for disease). You mentioned that you thought the sleeve would help you for the rest of your life. It does and it will always, and it is sitting there ready to help you. But you have to hold up your end of the bargain for the rest of your life. I’m four years out, and like you, I can definitely eat as much as I could before surgery. Yes, I am surprised about that. Yes, I get hungrier than I thought I would. No, I didn’t think that’s how it would be. But I also know that if I eat junky carbs (sugar), my appetite goes way out of control immediately for days after. So, it’s just plain not worth it to me. It IS a CHOICE that we all ultimately must make for ourselves. Do we want to consciously control our food choices for the rest of our lives—or—don’t we? You can replace your fear, Lisa, with your POWER, and you can begin to practice removing “I can’t” and “if only” from your vocabulary! YOU CAN. Period. I know there are so many people here for you...

    January Sleevers ❄️

Sorry bewell, the vomiting sounds like a real hassle. It hasn't been a problem for me, but I have heard others say that it took 6 to 8 months for their similar situations to settle down. I've only vomited once, when friends took me out for a celebratory meal and I ate and drank too much (still a quarter of what I would have eaten before). Here are the steps that I can think of to help with digestion. 1) stop drinking at least 30 minutes before the meal. 2) portion control and Protein first. 3) moist protein (yogurt sauces work great for me) 4) cut all meats into very small pieces so the stomach doesn't need to work so hard 5) take a bite, put the fork down and wait a couple minutes before the next bite. Repeat. 6) chew, chew, chew before you swallow. 7) portion control on the non-protein because this is what fills the stomach. 8) no drinking for at least a half hour after you drink too. 9) a small meal should take a half hour to eat correctly if you space your bites out and chew properly. You can also look at adding some digestion enzymes to the process, talk to your nutritionist. Papaya extract for example,
