I was bad with my dinner last night. But I loved every bit of it. Today is another day and I will be better. I did not over eat, I just ate the wrong things. I had 3 coconut shrimp, great bread dunked in oil and cheese pizza. The local restaurant has a great football special when the N.E. Patriots play. Yes they won!!! On one of my other WLS groups one person spoke of her friend and by pass. The woman had by pass about 10 years ago and was doing great for a while. She is now in the hospital for revision. She stretched out her pouch and when the doctor went to sew her insides it was like cotton candy, her words not mine. The woman is on ice chips for a few days and in the hospital for at least 10 days. If that doesn't scare the S**T out of you, nothing will. I never was a drinker. In fact the last frozen Girl Scout cookie I had I broke out into hives and never had a drink since. That was over 15 years ago. So drinking was never anything I was going to miss with my journey. I never liked fast foods and yet I was and am obese. Fast food was always a comfort food but not for me. Give me bread and more bread, ice cream. I now have bread in restaurants and maybe once or twice a month in my own house. I think we all went into this new journey to get healthy, be thinner and move our bodies that were just sitting around. No one forced us but we need to be smarter with choices. Like CG always says, Listen to your doctor!! Listen to your dietitian and finally listen to your body. Have a great week. October is tomorrow and before you know it Halloween. I only buy candy I hate and I hate more candies than I like. I never had a problem with buying candy. Yes, I hate Snickers!! Arlene

Getting banded 4-17-09, Need some help
kimba74 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I started my liquid diet yesterday and I can physically do this, but mentally I am a mess! I already cried this morning and I want to go home and get in bed for the next 2 weeks. I am getting banded on the 15th and I cannot wait. I think I just need some reassurance that I am not alone and that I am not crazy. I have a lot of family and friend support, but I need someone who has gone thru it to help. Thanks! Kim Sorry, getting banded the 15th -
6 Weeks Out And Losing Approx 1Lb A Week.... :-/
DLCoggin replied to lovelygirl01's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Perhaps I'm confused but if today's weight is 188 and your pre-op weight was 229, that's a loss of 41 lbs. July 30th was six weeks post-op so you lost 6.83 lbs per week. It don't get much better than that. Congratulations! Well done! Celebrate your success and keep doing exactly what you're doing. You may be having a bit of a stall. Natural part of the weight loss process and it will pass. Patience and realistic expectations are absolutely crucial. Stay focused on following the protocol, stay active, and stay away from the scales for at least a week, two would be even better. Absolutely no reason to be discouraged. -
Day One On Pre-Op Liquid Diet
Looking Ahead replied to sexysleever's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I first started, SF jello was my life saver! That and ice cold water from Sonic so I could chew the ice. I had diet cherry limeaids from there to help too. Hang in there, it will all be worth it in the end. What a couple weeks compared to the rest of your life. Can't wait to see your before and after pics. I was amazed how much I looked different just from my pre op diet. Take a face pic today and another next weekend. You'll be amazed. -
Nicki, you're way ahead of me, I just had surgery one week ago. However, I lost 90 pounds since March preparing for my surgery. When I would stop losing, I would evaluate everything that was contributing to weight loss and try to make sure I wasn't failing to do something essential. For me, these were the factors that could keep the weight coming off: 1). Water. If you are not drinking enough water, your body will compensate to hang on to the water it does have. 2). Protein. You say you are hitting your target and that is great. Keep it up. 3). Exercise. Daily exercise every day gets more important as you lose weight. It can help your metabolism stay higher and burns a couple hundred calories per day for you. Since 1 pound = 3500 calories, you can estimate the impact of daily exercise over time. 4). I find that if I am not recording calorie counts of all food eaten each day, I get off track. I highly recommend you keep a food diary or get on something like myfitnesspal if you are not already doing it. I think many, many people on here will tell you they too have experienced month long stalls. So don't despair, just fine tune your actions that contribute to weight loss and plan your meals, water and exercise and this stall will break. Stalls are vexing, I hate to experience them because it feels like your hard work is not paying off. However, that is a myth. Our stalls are simply the prelude to an extended period of weight loss and staying true to all your dr's instructions will pay off. This weight loss journey can be really emotional, but please remember this is really about math. Good luck, things will look better soon!

Well just one more day till I start my preop diet and I must say I'm scared and excited at the same time. Tomorrow I will weigh and post my measurements. Kinda curious if I gained any weight in the past few weeks cause I have been eating any and everything that I know I won't have ever again. I'm paying for my surgery because my insurance doesn't cover any weight surgeries. I feel like I owe this to myself I have spent my whole life taking care of others now it's time to take care of my self. I have struggled with my weight since I was in middle school. I'm so ready to shop in the regular size women's department instead of a hidden plus size section. The determining factor that made me make the decision to have surgery was when my boyfriend and I went to Orlando to shop at the outlet mall. I couldn't fit any clothes at any of the stores including Nike and Addidas even women's workout clothes didn't fit what sense does that make. I cried on the inside all the way home and was so ashamed of myself. I had had enough. So my story begins on Tuesday 10/25 with my 2week preop diet. More updates to come. Anyone have any experience with FMLA?
SaraWalk replied to moonlightdreamer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For mine, i had to fill out the papers, faxed them over to the drs office they completed there part then faxed them back to the HR, I was approved medical leave, and short term disability. I am taking 2 weeks off, first one paid PTO and the second paid @ 66% of my usual pay per short term disability (STD). When i get ready to go back i have to get my dr to fill out a paper to return to work. Do u have a specific question? It is confusing, it was my first time too, and my supervisor didnt know how to do anything! Luckily the HR was able to help. The HR has to deal with it alot, with pregnancy usually, the questions on the form kinda seem like they may not pertain to us, but to have this surgery it is a medically necessary leave of absence that they should grant. My job did. I answered the questions as best i could, didnt feel like i did them right, but i was as truthful as possible. Let me know if theres anything else i can try and help with! -
Nope! I am pre op but my surgeon said it was fine to continue getting my nails and pedis done too. Some surgeons require you not to have any nail polish or toe polish on but mine said it was fine. I colored my hair last week and getting mani pedis tomorrow with a friend to get ready for surgery!

For those of you who had a Hematoma how long was it before you started feeling better and recovered from it. It has been about 3 weeks but I really don't feel any better. I was unable to continue taking the antibiotics they gave me due to pills not staying down. I tried crushing and cutting them but no luck. They said there is no infection. It just sucks because it effects everday activity like work.

I'm 6 days post-op today and feeling *nearly* like my old self. Good energy, no pain, etc. BUT- I'm hungry again for the first time today. And I have another whole week of liquids. I know I have to do this to help heal my stomach-- but wow- fluids just do not keep me full for more than an hour and a half- maybe 2 if it's a Protein shake? I hate to do more than 3 Protein shakes a day; what do you guys think? I've added cream Soups, which is helpful. Any other suggestions?

I will be 11 weeks post OP when I travel with family to New Orleans. I plan to bring protein shakes with me but would love some tips on eating out.

I am thrilled to hear that your recovery is going so smoothly! This is such an exciting phase to start out in. Enjoy every little victory and if it helps right them down. They are all amazing. For example, last night I was walking in the mall with my boyfriend and we walked by a clothing store for jr's and regular sized women. Tom said to me, "I bet you love that store." I have NEVER been able to shop in a store like that and my boyfriend of almost three years didn't even bat an eye at the fact that I could shop there. It was thrilling!!!! There are so many cool little victories and changes. Enjoy them all. Anna

Today is one week for me today! I havent had a BM yet and dont feel contispated at all. Should I? Almost had to go to ER second day home becasue I could only drink 4 oz of water and was getting dehydrated. But it feels so good not to be hungry. My son had a pizza on Saturday and I kept thinking damn I want a piece but then thought why your not hungry, That passed quickly and I was fine. I'm sure i'll have many more days like that.

Helpful info about Pre Op Psych Eval.
MorganO87 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I posted yesterday about how I was concerned about my psych evaluation I will be having next week. I'm not concerned that I'm crazy (although it's debatable sometimes lol) it just makes me nervous I will say or do something wrong. I think I was more nervous about not knowing what to expect since I've never had a psych evaluation before. Anyways, upon doing some research I found a detailed website about what to sort of expect and wanted to share it so anyone else nervous about their psych eval could read it. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3096263/ -
I am the same exactly three weeks and stall it is frustrating as I am barely eating I guess my body is just fighting it to keep as it use to be deep breath and patience I guess

Hemoroids post op anyone?
mom2lucky (suznc) replied to michelecaples's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OMG yes. The last week has been awful. Started taking softener every day & that helps but not sure why they're a problem all of a sudden. I would have thought less weight or not going daily would help but apparently has no effect. -
I had mine Sept 23rd. I have lost 31 pounds so far. I stall for a few days not loosing anything and I was told this is perfectly normal! A lot of it depends on your intake and your activity levels. I still am unable to get all my Fluid or Protein "goals" into me but I make sure to exercise! Your not alone! It will happen all in good time! Be patient and keep healthy.

Hic ups, coughing, sneezing
newat52 replied to jlmckee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I suppose it's possible but not likely. It makes me hurt just reading your post. Thank goodness I went about 2 weeks without sneezing and I remember how much it hurt then. 4 days out, can't even imagine! I managed to go almost a week without coughing so I was lucky. I'm sure you are ok but if you still feel a localized pain after a while, you may want to give your surgeon a call and ask. Good luck to you. I know things suck right now, especially the first week post op but it will get better and better as time goes and you will LOVE your sleeve and your life post sleeve! -
Stalling....[emoji20]
Anthrodiva replied to ssbthodge's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds very similar to me (RNY 1/26). On another thread they reminded folks that a) different people lose differently and the lighter you are to begin with the slower it will go. Two pounds a week CONSISTENTLY without backsliding will still be a blessing imho. -
Help! Pills question
River Moon replied to Maribelle76's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome to the healing side of things. I am 1-week post op today and had this same issue. Just as Arabesque said, mixing them with your shake or some soup is a great idea. My nutritionist also said using a little sugar free Jello works too. Jello essentially melts in our mouth and stomach so it's ok for phase 2. Congratulations and well wishes on your recovery. -
I'm in my 7th week post-op. What did your guidlines recommend your daily carb/protein/fat %'s to be at this point? I was told 60-80 grams of Protein but I wanna set my carb and fat % goals in MFP too.

Hi, new and SOOOOO ready to start my process
Adri replied to Ready for the new Lay-Lay's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hope this helps: -My pre-op diet was only two weeks long...thank goodness. and my insurance did cover the vsg. -This site has a complications forum that may help you with that question. -I'm having a hard time learning to eat slow...i was a wolfer and a gulper. now i take teeny bites and sip. make sure you follow the rule not to drink a half hour before and after meals. you will be overfull and your tummy and esophagus will ache. -obesity help is a site a lot of people go on, and there's all sorts of video blogs on you tube -my doctor gave be basic instructions for meal plan, i follow those -i was in the hospital two days. i didn't need any pain meds when i got home. this surgery is more discomforting than painful in my opinion...but the discomfort lasts a lot longer; something new comes up with each change in your diet. -i was on liquids for two weeks; pureed for two weeks; and now soft foods for 3-4 weeks, then amy "normal" diet starts in september. -my surgeon is very competent and experienced, but also has lousy bedside manner; but that is fine with me. everything he has told me has been spot on and i have had no complications...knock on wood and thanks be to God. I wish you the best on your journey...I think it will be worth it!
