    Weight Lost!

@@cmblackmon35, congratulations on your loss so far, you are really doing great! I would be very careful about putting a goal out there like losing 25 lbs per month. The reality is you are likely not going to lose that much per month after the first month. It slows down after you get back on regular foods. I have been losing on average 2 lbs per week and that means some weeks I will lose absolutely nothing and other weeks I will lose 5 lbs. If you put that much pressure on yourself you might find yourself really dissappointed which can be demotivating. I think I have seen other revision folks on here as well and they have said with revision, you sometimes lose at a slower rate. I would follow the plan and enjoy life a bit, if you do that the weight loss will simply happen for you. You really are doing fantastic!

Did anyone like the band better?

I was also banded in 2011 and having revision. I was told reversible, but permanent. I despise my band...can't wait toget it out. My port has flipped and Dr. unable to access it. It feels like an orange is right under my skin (where the port is)and Dr. thinks it sticks out like a tumor because of how it's sitting on my abdominal muscle. It's gross and embarrassing. I'm so ready to move to the sleeve and start this new chapter in my life. My clinic discourages the band now and Dr. states they haven't seen the success as they once hoped.

    Re Sleeve after weight gain?

They may do a revision to the RNY, but do you really need it? Have you asked your Dr. for a referral to see a psychologist who can help with the eating issues? Might be a place to start. Good luck to you, and let us know how you are doing....

    Very confused!

I had the revision to the bypass cuz I wanted to lose more weight I had the sleeve two years ago and lost 80 pounds. But I still have more to lose. I've always had reflux since I was a teenager I take prescription meds and now since the bypass I take over the counter meds too. This is the worst I've ever had. I talked to my surgeon and they say it'll get better but it's not so far.

    Very confused!

I had RNY and can eat anything I want without getting sick. Just because I can doesn't mean I should. I would not worry about whether or not they actually performed the bypass however I would call your surgeon to find out what is going on with the reflux. I had one of the most severe cases my enterologist has seen and I am now post op almost 6 months. I have not had one incident where I have reflux. It cured for me and I take no medication to prevent it either. I would definately ask what the heck is going on with that situation. I am guessing you had the revision because of the reflux.
  7. Just curious - what do you think is going to happen to your weight after your band is removed? Did you discuss this decision with your surgeon before you had the band put in? I know people have the band removed due to complications or revision to another WLS but almost anyone who got theirs removed and not revised to another WLS put all the weight back on. I have never heard of anyone who got the band as a temporary fix with the idea of having it removed after hitting goal. If it took the band to get you to goal what makes you think you will stay there after it's removed and your stomach goes back to normal capacity? These people that you heard of who had theirs removed after goal - did they stay at goal? I guess I am just stunned at your answer as I've never heard this before and am surprised a surgeon would agree to due it for that reason.

    NY - NYC/Long Island

My revision from band to sleeve surgery was attempted this past Monday, March 16th. It was a colossal failure due to stomach inflammation from the lap band and the band being embedded into the both the stomach and the liver. The band was successfully removed, but the sleeve operation could not be performed at the same time (as planned.) I now need to wait 4-6 months for the inflammation to go down and for my insides to fully heal. I'm left with no surgical tool to assist me with weight loss. Still, I will try on my own and hope that the 4-6 months passes quickly so I can be safely sleeved. I don't know how often a situation such as mine occurs. I'd be interested to hear from others who may have faced similar obstacles to getting revision surgery, or to hear from others who may be familiar with this scenario. Thank you in advance for any feedback on my experience. And, I wish safe and successful surgical outcomes for all.

    what's the revision for?
  11. Hello everyone please help me understand what is going on. I had a revision from the gastric sleeve to a gastric bypass on February 5th. I've had no problems or issues at all ( which I'm grateful for) but it makes me wonder if they really did the bypass I know it sounds crazy but it goes through my mind. I can eat or drink anything and not get sick at all. The only thing is my reflux has gotten worse not better like they say it does. I'm so confused ???? idk what is going on with my body. Has anyone had this same experience? Please help!!
  12. My son had to set an alarm to remember to eat, me, not so much!!! But he was just a sleeve and I'm a revision...there is a difference!!!
  13. I had mine done with Dr. Fiallo but my insurance had me go to Baystate. Mine is a revision surgery, band out and then sleeved. My weight loss is going slow. I would like to go back to one of their support group meetings but I wish they had a Post-op only meeting. There are too many people looking into having surgery at their meetings
  14. I would say go ahead and do the hip replacement. Even if I need it replaced a second time for revision, it probably won't be until I am close to 70 (which, IMO is better than a revision in my 80's) The recovery was not that bad. I took ten weeks off but probably only needed 7 or 8 total Pain was completely gone post op--like a miracle of sorts Why be in pain? I am planning my second one within a year. I'll be 50 in January
  15. Have you picked a surgeon? I'm right now researching this as a revision from sleeve.

    Sleeve to MGB Low BMI

I didn't talk with others but while I was in the hospital I met three other girls similar to myself (under 30 Bmi under 35) having lapband to mgb revision which reassured me as I always associated bypass with those that needed extreme weightloss

    Sleeve to MGB Low BMI

Had my band seven years ago dropped to 120lbs so 100lb loss, band slipped three years later due to two pregnancies (to be honest pretty much starved that weight off me, couldn't eat any nutrient dense food really due to over restriction) regained 60lbs. I wanted to get the sleeve and refused to go back to my initial surgeon unless he agreed to do it even though he was against it. It was only about four hours prior to surgery that he managed to change my mind. I thought that because a restriction only procedure had worked so well for me before it would again. His points were. 1) if you have a band your stomach will be damaged so they would have to make the pouch slightly larger because of scar tissue therefore you will probably be able to eat more 2) your body is not shocked by just going on a low cal diet again, it's used to it 3) it's reversible 4) they don't bypas as much of the intestines so malabsorption is not as high (this was my main reason I didn't want it) 4) usually a couple of good Multivitamins a day is all the supplements you need, with traditional rny it's more 5) probably won't suffer with as many extreme reactions to sugar/ fat as rny. 6) if you have a bypas then you have no where else to go, no more surgery, if you have a sleeve and it doenst work you will need to revise again anyway (especially relevant if you are self pay like me!) I am really happy I changed my mind, I haven't had any problems I still have slight reflux which they are hoping will settle in a month or two. That's the main reason I am happy I changed my mind. Reflux is normally worse with the sleeve. I felt fully recovered within a week (would have been earlier but it was the port removal pain that hurt) However I am sure there are many success stories with any kind of revision.
  20. Thank you all for great suggestions, reminders and a few firm kicks in the butt. Much needed! I am so glad to be a part of this wonderful support group! Combining all the suggestions and applying my logical Project Manager mind to it, I jotted down the sequence of events that led to this sudden onset of insanity. I just came back from, staying away from home for 4 weeks, 2 big family weddings and said no to almost ALL the food while I was there. I am proud of that! Being human, I think I had said "No" enough times in the last few weeks. My brain was rebelling! A few weeks outside my environment with EVERYONE pushing rich, yummy food at me was not easy! And I could not get my exercise. Exercise and the resulting soreness keeps me motivated and happy. Slipping into old habits is easy when the guard is down. I guess I was tired of saying NO! So, last evening, I gave myself this pep talk in front of the mirror (felt a little silly but how cares?) Pep talk begin: In the last week, I started to slip a little. Started testing the waters. NOT GOOD!! I over-indulge, weigh myself daily and find out that I had not gained. So, what do I do? Keep repeating the behavior thinking I am invincible! Until the weight gain actually occurs? Who am I kidding? I know it will come and come quickly, without the warning. The habits will be back before I can say “habit”. I cannot go back to thinking that I can fix it without taking drastic action! I WILL NOT be able to just stop eating!! When has that ever worked in the past? Create a plan. Revise it! Pep talk end. So, I created a plan. Organized the house. Threw away the Snacks. Passed a hard test: A boy from the neighborhood brought a cheesecake my husband had ordered from him while I was out. I threw it in the back of the freezer right away! I went to the gym this morning. I tried on my size 6 clothes and let myself feel the wonderful feeling. I drank 120 oz of Water and am chugging away today! I looked at my before and after pictures and I tried to remember all the wonderful compliments and attention I got at the weddings! Here is what I learnt from this small slip up: - I will not be cured! I am an addict and always need to have a plan. - Desperate times call for desperate measures! Get help quickly! Do not think you can do it by having the same thinking that you had before the surgery. Your tummy was cut, not your brain! It stills thinks the same way! - I did not have this big surgery to fail. I will adjust my habits and create as many plans I have to and be successful! For those here that posted about going through the same thing, create a list of things you can make better today and then act on it. DON'T WAIT! Thank you all!
  21. There seems to be some difference of opinion by some as to whether the band is meant to be permanent or temporary. While it can be removed or revised to a different WLS I am not aware of anyone in the medical profession, especially those putting bands in, saying that they are meant to be temporary. Would you have the band put in if you were told it wasn't meant to be permanent?
  22. I am having a revision from bypass. What is the difference from bypass to switch??

    Sleeve to MGB Low BMI

Hi I had band to MGB revision four weeks ago my Bmi was 34 I am 23lbs down this month. I wanted the sleeve initially (massive slip with my band) but was persuaded to have mgb because often when our bodies are used to low calories as you have had a lapband and a sleeve we need the extra help to reset the body to lose, also I had major reflux from my band.

    Yay! Gastric bypass?

I went through the six month monitored program before I had my RNY in sept. My six months actually went 9 total months due to the calendar of the surgeon, phsycologist and the time needed to get the clinic to file paperwork. I could hardly wait to get through it and move on with my life. RNY has been one of the best things I have ever done in my life, I now eat to live instead of live to eat. I had diabetes type 2, severe acid reflux/Gerd, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, sleep apnea and stage 3 kidney disease when I started. All of these issues have been resolved. Many of them in the first 3 months post op. I can eat what I want, I have not had any dumping syndrome. I eat healthy because healthy food is what my body is asking for.you crave what you eat. I used to be a sugaholic. Now, I don't like the taste of things that are too sweet. I had the bypass because of the severe reflux. I was told the band and sleeve could make that problem much worse and then I would be looking at a revision to RNY anyway. I have never regretted having this surgery. Not for one second. I only wish I had it done 15 years ago. Good luck to you!
