    lap band and drinking

If you mean alcohol, it's usually because it can lead to band erosion. It's also empty calories and there is also a risk of transfer addiction (trading food addiction for alcoholism). I would ask your doctor his specific reasons to be sure.
  3. Hey....25 year lab rat here.....exactly how elevated were they? You can message me if you don't want to post here. Alk phos, AST, and ALT are liver enzymes. They go up when your liver is pissed off. Viruses, alcohol, too much ibuprophen or aleve can cause them to go up. Tylenol (unless you are taking above 900 mg a day) usually doe NOT piss off your liver. Your liver enzymes can go up and down 40-100 points a day. That is the reason I was asking what the values are. Elevated enzymes can also happen with severe gall stone attacks (but that is VERY painful and you would know you are having the attack) SEVERELY elevated enzymes can be caused by hepatitis and or other causes. I would be happy to look at them for you.

    alcohol

I am four months out and I have a glass of red wine almost every night. My tolerance has not changed, nor have I suffered any ill effects from the alcohol. I do make sure to include the glass in my daily calorie tally. I have a few other friends who have had VSG, and they too enjoy a regular glass of wine.

    Late June Sleeve Buddies?

Every program is definitely different! My doc released me to full food at 2 weeks, some programs require liquids for a month post-op. I don't really understand no alcohol for a year, though? Is it for weight loss purposes? Our dietitians are very strict, but they're for guidance in my world, they don't tell me what I can and can't do, only my MD does that. I've been advised by our dietitians to use fake vegetable Protein, to use aspartame, to use only non-fat dairy and on and on. There's also been quite good advice, but I take what makes sense to me and leave the rest. I actually get a lot of advice and support from my case manager, a successful 9-year RnY patient. She's been there, done that on so many situations and is a wealth of info. I cherish her

    Unfill For Convience????

You do not need to unfill to fly, in fact according to my Dr air in the band will swell and cause problems whilst saline won't.So in other words it is better when flying to have Fluid in than for it to be empty. I have flown many times since being banded and have never had an issue. Many of those flights were long haul Australia - Africa. If you are concerned then request a special diet in advance. I ate the plane food and surprisingly didn't have any issues. Keep hydrated, stay away from the alcohol and you should be fine. And if you do feel slightly tight whilst in the air it should resolve when you land. I would advise against unfilling for any reason other than being too tight. It is way too hard to get back to the green zone afterwards and you may find that you regret it.
  8. I quit Testosterone Replacement Therapy, after 2 years on it. I was not on steroids !!!! Its testosterone replacement therapy, it makes a man at 40 years old, feel great, high sex drive, etc.. It is not pills and 5 different steroids going to you stomach. Its one low dosage intermuscular injection per week. I do not drink alcohol, or smoke nicotine. I quit cold turkey, ["weaned off, TRT with very low dosage weekly shot"], 5 weeks before my successfully , gastric bypass surgery , I am still currently off TRT probably forever. I am 40 years old, ex powerlifter. I am currently 6'3" 299 lbs , i lost 48 lbs as of today in 3 weeks. I only choose gastric bypass surgery because my insurance covered it 100%, i knew it was not reversible, going in. I was told I could continue TRT for life 4 weeks after post op. but now I read No NSAIDS and no Steroids , and they are to opposite things ???? because they can? cause ulcers in the new smaller stomach, and around the staple line. That being, said I am prepared to quit TRT forever !!! But I don't understand why ? It makes no sense. I know for a fact my natural testosterone will come back in a few months, being off TRT, I am not worried about that. *****These are some things that I cant understand and it makes no sense to me , during 4 week post operation. ******* NSAIDS is an appreciation for "NONSTEROIDAL anti-inflammatory drugs" but then it says you CANNOT take Steroids' either ????? Can someone please explain to me how that makes sense ? One is NON STEROIDAL and one is STEROIDALl ?????? Now on to the Clomid brand name drug name is clomiphene , it can be taken by men or women, i have read many posts about women using Clomid post operation to get pregnant !!! there doctors said it was fine but , as I did further research Clomid is a NSAID !!!!????? how does that make sense ??? Clomid taken by men post cycle therapy off TRT will help a man boost testosterone 200% i have done it before in the past it works bringing back natural testosterone levels. The Clomid comes in crushable form pills and liquid too, obviously because , after gastric bypass surgery, your body does not absorb medication like it did before. This is a serious post for people who know what they are talking about please respond with personal stories or any knowledge or insight that you have would be appreciated thank you.
  9. Hi can anyone tell me what their experiences are with alcohol and their lap band
  10. I start the day with my favorite Protein Bar and then after a while get interested in lunch, which, if it's got carbs in it will also have protein. Like if I want a handful of crackers, its crackers and cottage cheese or mozzarella. If I order Pasta at a restaurant I get something with chicken and make sure I eat the chicken and not around it. There's only enough room left after that for a bite or two of the carb and that's enough to satisfy. i buy sweets sometimes and eat them, but I'm getting less and less interested. They look good at the store but for some reason they just lose their appeal going down. I bought a red velvet cupcake today and cut myself a quarter of it. Boring. When I was on vacation I bought black licorice and ate on it for a couple days and threw out the rest. Just lost interest. Lowcarb is awesome and it really is the fastest way to lose weight. it's also really good for blood sugar disorders, fatty liver, and now they say even cancer. I was a hardcore lowcarber for years but my personal opinion now is that it can have a backlash later on. This is my personal experience and I would never argue with another person's medical protocol, especially not after major surgery. However, there are some disadvantages to being lowcarb *forever*. One is, when you stop eating that way, you get rebound hyperinsulinemia, which means you can gain weight back from eating a higher carb diet if it just breathes on you. This is not just the rush of a fast glycogen fill: bodybuilders for example are constantly shrinking and expanding due to carb overloads when they're out of training: I call this the puff and stuff effect. Also, carbohydrate ( healthy carbohydrate including fruits and vegetables) has other benefits besides having antioxidants. In moderation they regulate mood and anxiety, promote sleep, increase serotonin and regulate brain function. Some people say they love lowcarb and they would never go back but there are a certain number of us ex-speedracers who found that after a couple years with carbs pushed down under 40 we were nervous wrecks. The answer to that was supplements and drugs, valium, alcohol..etc. Anything but eat a potato. So...now to me eating clean is eating everything in moderation. Fruit. Watermelon. White wine. Cheese and crackers. Drunken Thai noodles. Crockpot chili. Whatever. My stomach is tiny too, and I *have* to stop when I'm full. I was a serious yo yo dieter before, really my whole life, and healing my metabolism from that means eating everything, but eating less of it, over time. I tried the other way -- down to nine hundred, 20 carbs with "cheat days" that turned into "cheat years" and all of that. All I got for my trouble was more eating disorder. As far as the "honeymoon effect"...well -- it lasts two years. That's plenty of time. I would rather figure out how to eat everything than walk around terrified of English muffins. Not that I even really like those anymore. But that's my deal Meggie. I'm reading people here who have their flux capacitors set to six hundred and that's that, and they're doing great on their journeys too. My point was that we don't have stomachs anymore, and undereating to basal metabolism is enough. Starvation isn't necessary, and neither is staring down the scale. The time is going to pass and we're all going to get there.

    Alcohol

so, i started drinking again about 3 weeks after my surgery. wine is a good drink to start back with. it will help you to gauge how you do with it. some people get wasted really easy. i like to think that i dont but i do feel one glass of alcohol, where i barely felt it before. i am a margarita lover as well, so i will give you my homemade recipe. you might want to cut everything in half: 3 limes 2 shots or 1 large shot of tequila 1 shot or 1/2 large shot of triple sec it has WAY less calories than the mixes in bars and besides, it tastes WAY better!!

    Psych Evaluation

They want to make sure you will be able to make this lifestyle change and will help you be successful in case you need some counseling to deal with personal issues. Also, a few people have cross addictions. That is since they no longer eat large amounts of food to cope with stress or as an emotional crutch, etc., they turn to smoking, drinking alcohol, gambling, etc.. Be honest and whatever you do, don't turn and talk to an imaginary person next to you after you are done speaking to the psychiatrist and say "How did I do?".

    Throwing up after eating

Re: "vomit" "throwing up" "sliming" and "PB" Bandsters have evolved some terms descriptive of their particular situation. In general, "vomit" and "throwing up" are inaccurate to describe what happens when we eat too much/too fast/too dry/too fibrous without proper consideration to such factors as amount, type of food, how well we chew, etc. "Vomit/throwing up" is not accurate, as those terms involve gastric juices and at lease partial digestion within the stomach. Usually the type of smelly clumpy liquid such as after drinking too much alcohol or some kind of food poisoning. I've seen relatively few reports of actual stomach content being 'thrown up' in postOp Bandsters. Feelings of nausea etc continue after the fact depending on what the actual cause of the event may have been. Various illnesses can be responsible as well. This is the very kind of event that non-Bandsters experience. The "sliming" or "PB--productive burping" whatever we may call it, results from whatever we eat not fitting thru the pouch and we in effect regurgitate it from above the Band area. There is remarkably little digestive juices present at this point, as those reside in the lower stomach area and are not in contact until after the bolus passes thru the Band into the actual stomach. Heavy mucous/slime is most often a component and repeated spitting can and does occur. The bolus of food is rejected and returned to the world and the Bandster can return to their activities. Nausea and other symptoms pass with the objectionable material being expulsed. This is not an illness per se, rather of symptom most often of an Error of Eating. Time and experience will teach the Bandster how to mostly avoid such event in the first place. "Sliming-PBing" is different than the type of foul tasting bile type regurgitation one might get when laying in bed. Hope this helps identify some of what recent Bandsters may find confusion.

    Alcohol

Hi all. Here is my questions... I am not nearly ready for a drink but do wonder WHAT to drink when I am. Yes I am thinking way ahead I know. Here is my thing... I love Rita's but I am sure the sugar content in them will be terrible for sleevers. Beer you are not supposed to have because of the bubbles or something?? Mixed drinks with juice have sugar in them too. What is safe to drink that wont send you into dumping syndrome? Thanks for any advice yall have!! I just want to make sure that I dont do anything that will cause me to have any problems down the road.

    Alcohol

I have yet one more theory on tolerance, You have very little food in your stomach AND the liquids slide right through and hit you hard and fast. Yet more wise advice: Vodka, whisky, gin, grappa, cognac, rum or any other distilled alcohol, with no sugar added (all turned into alcohol) have zero carbohydrates. Beer has lots and so does wine (red more than white, but still a lot.) A good rule-of-thumb is anything even slightly sugary or malty has carbs. Alcohol is sugar in another form (better, I'd say) and not a calorie is lost. You still get the energy. But no carbs, natch. The carbs have all been magically turned into booze. However, they severely delay weight loss. I guess they keep the liver too busy. All those "empty calories" must bounce about a lot. Atkins died before he'd come to a conclusion on the matter, though I remember him recommending a glass of vodka rather than beer, wine or, supreme sin, fruit juice. But booze not only delays fat loss; it withholds Water and puffs you up. Distilled alcohol is still a miracle little understood and appreciated.
  17. go to the bar to watch the game and order Water or tea. There's no rule that you must drink alcohol. I went out last weekend with friends and had no problem ordering a non-alcoholic drink while they had beer. Nobody even noticed. If you go to dinner, then just order some Soup. Claim you had a big lunch if he asks why you're eating so little and you don't want to share about surgery yet. Enjoy the date!!

I have a question about alcohol

It is mainly the wasted calories that makes alcohol a discouraged beverage. But, everything in moderation. I was released for alcohol consumption 3.5 months post-op with a warning to avoid red wines. I waited until after I was at goal to drink wine. I had one glass stretched out over an hour. It hit me hard, and fast then I sobered up fast. Now, my tolerance is back to what it was pre-op. I drink very, very socially, and tie one on monthly. I don't ever see a weight gain, nor do I get hangovers, but I am also in maintenance. A lot of sleeve patients choose to partake in alcohol before reaching goal report stalling, or it slowing down their loss. If you figure it into your caloric intake, then just following it up with tons of clear fluids.

    May's Chat

Pat COOL pictures. Bet your place is breathtaking. Love the tart cart Donna, sorry about your visit. I know what you mean about the drinking, I have 2 brothers who are alcoholics (my dad was one too). Its really something they need to do for themselves (sadly). How is your Dad, what did the hospital say? Sherry, the band is wacky LOL !!! Congrats on the 39 lbs WHOOT!!!! The reason people do liquids after they have a rough pb is because the esphogus is usually irritated. I get food stuck alot but thats because I go to fast. If your having a hard time you might want to wait to get another fill....only you can tell. I was supposed to get one this past week but I'm waiting until June 16th... I'm afraid of going to tight too. Cindy, sorry your aunt is making things ugly. Its rough enough when some one you love passes and yet to put up with that crap just sucks. No tickets ??? just kidding Voice lessons........ how cool !!!!! you should be proud. I wish folks would use their time to support than to call each other names...it really is sad (on the troll thread and such). We went swimming today, water was chili but it warm up and you got used to it after a while LOLOL !!!! Oh well...good night folks. Have a great evening and well, we'll be back to the grind tomorrow. Hugs and :kiss2:
  20. I believe I am a very good parent. I have always been very open with my children from the time they were old enough to talk about sex, drugs, alcohol, crime, you name it. I try to instil in them good morals. I try to teach them right from wrong. However, I am not with them every minute of every day. They are faced with choices every day when I am not with them. All I can do is hope and pray that when faced with those decisions, mom's good upbringing rings louder in their ears than the peer that is pressuring them and they choose to do the right thing. However, if they were to make a wrong decision, which thankfully they never have, I do not think I would feel responsible for that. I did everything in my power as a parent to teach them what they should do. That is all I can do. From there on out, it is up to them. The bottom line is, kids from good homes go bad and kids from bad homes go good. But, everyone needs to stop hiding behind their parents, childhood or upbringing as an excuse for why they do drugs, alcohol or crime and accept responsibility for their own behavior. I doubt anyone held a gun to their head and forced them to take that drink, smoke the pot, abuse a child, etc. They made a conscious choice to do it and they need to own up to it, accept responsibility for it and accept the consequences.

    Sleeved 12/3/12

I am a 12/3 girl. I enjoyed my cream of mushroom soup for supper. No more clear liquids for this girl. Felt full of energy yesterday..not so much today..taking my anti depressant and anti anxiety meds is no fun..its like doing a shot of the worst alcohol but having to sip it..yuck
  22. Almost 2 years out. Never dumped. Can eat anything I like, but my portions are dramatically smaller. However............I have changed my lifestyle and do not WANT to eat the junk that made me fat in the first place. I make my own gluten free pizza crust with sweet potatoes and almond flour, and top with veggies. I avoid processed grains and sugars, alcohol, cookies, and soda. Did I have candy today? Yup. Sure did. In fact, I ate a whole BIG HUNK candy bar!!!! But it's back to to soup and salad tonight and right back on track tomorrow with my sautéed veggies and tofu scramble for breakfast. In short, I can eat sugar, but it makes me feel tired and achy. It is so inflammatory for me, that the sweetness really isn't worth the end result. Once you are off sugar, stuff like raisins or a piece of fruit are incredible sweet and delicious all by themselves.
