    3 Days Post Op

My dr did not want clear Protein until day 5. As much Water as you can and Clear liquids . Then full liquids in week two so full Protein drinks. My dr supplied a chart and for a woman 5'5" (me) I should get 87 gm a day. I round this to 90. I bought unflavored powder and add it to everything to try to get more. I was sleeved 6/17 and am on soft foods. I now get 60 gm from 2 drinks a day and track the rest in the small meals I eat. You have to drink all the time. You do not want to have to go get iv fluids. Good luck to you. This month is hard... I've been stalled since 9 days out but I think it might be over soon. Keep on!!!
  4. By this time next week, I will be in Mexico for my same day surgery. I am super excited and a bit nervous. I've gotten so much info from the forum in the past week, and so much support, I can honestly say I'm kind of ready! Waiting on my protein shakes and cute compression socks from UPS... they always deliver late in the day. Grrrrrr. I travel super light, all I expect to bring will fit in a backpack. And hopefully not bring too many souvenirs back home. Lol

    Started Pre-Op Need Help

Hello there! I find myself not getting 1000 calories a day. My nutritionist has me weighing out my food with 3 oz of Protein and 1 oz each of grain and veggies or fruit. I average 825 with 70 grams of protein unless I do a training session where I add beneprotein to my meal at night to help heal then I hit 80+. For my pre-op diet I struggled but I started to weigh it all out and get an idea of how much food I was going to get. I didn't starve myself but I was hungry. It is amazing to me such a small amount of food fills me up now. I know every doctor has their own plan so if you follow yours you should be fine. The carbs are very low when you are only doing 3 oz of grains a day.
  6. I think all your issues are normal. Are you drinking Protein shakes and eating sugar free things? All of those things give me terrible gas. The Protein Shakes make me so gassy. I'm not against them, I would just rather get my protein from meat or "normal" as opposed to drinking the gassy shakes :-) You're 10 days post op? You're most likely still swollen from surgery which is why you can feel that discomfort in your chest. Honestly, you'll always feel things pass through your band if you take too big of a bite or gulp your drink. Diarrhea is sooo normal. Once you start eating solid foods it should get better. I had the same problem. Life will get so much better. I didn't feel normal for a good 2 weeks. My recovery was long. And I regretted the surgery a few times. Now, I'm not looking back! The weight is coming off and it makes everything worth it.
  7. Hi, Ok so at this point you feel gassy during the day and it gets worse as the day progresses into night. I was told that was completely normal and to expect it!! The best way to combat this is to walk as much as possible. As far as the restriction, I would highly question this. My doctor did put some saline into the band when it was placed during sugery. I have a sneaky idea that your doctor did too! I was told that it's usually done because they need to see if the band is working properly. I would call your doctors office and see if they did put some saline into your band, and how much. And yes there is going to be a feel some pain when you swallow a big gulp of liquid. The band is placed around the top of your stomach and stitched in. It is healing and so there is usually some type of swelling due to your surgery. The swelling in that area can then be felt by you when you try to drink too big a swallow of anything, not just the liquids. When you start on those pureed foods, be careful that you do not swallow a big gulp of that food either. You do not want it sitting there in that area where the swelling might be and making you feel horrrible. I was told to SIP everything, NO big gulps of anything after surgery. Sip all day long. Sip only about 5 ounces of liquid an hour, nothing more. They even gave ma chart of what my day should look like sipping as the hours went by. They had me sipping liquids pretty much all day long, except for two breaks (around 1 and 9 p.m. at night where I was to not drink anything for about an hour. ) Needless to say it was a very interesting day chart to look at As for the diarrhea, look out. Was told that if it continued for more than one day to then go to the pharmacy and get something to stop it. (pretty much anything over the counter I wanted, as long as it was in liquid form.) If you are drinking a lot of milk products, they said that might cause some of the diarrhea issues too and if you are you eating/drinking a lot of milk products that you might want to cut them out for a week or so. You can make the Protein shakes with just Water, add some Fiber to them too! Clear liquid Soups like broth were good to add the protein too as well. Remember to call your doctor and see what they recommend. You paid for the to be available to answer any and all questions you are having about this process. Do NOT hesitate to bug the heck out of them, day or night. Believe me you will not be asking anything anything they haven't dealt with in the past. They know what to advise for these issue and maybe even have something you can get from them to help with any issues that arise. Good luck on your journey!

    Stats!

Will someone please take a glance at my stats for the day and make suggestions? Good or bad, I can take it. I'm losing weight very well-- 37 lbs down since June 5th and 52 lbs down over all. I just want to make sure I'm doing ok... Unfortunately, I can't make it to my surgeon appointment this week due to starting my new job on Monday (can't take off yet). I'm going to call her PA tomorrow to chat about my progress. I feel like in doing OK, I just think I can do BETTER... If anyone has some suggestions, I'm all ears! Sorry I couldn't include breakfast, my phone screen wasn't big enough for the full pic. My breakfast was a homemade egg/cheese wrap on an 80calorie fiber one wrap and lunch was 1/4 cup leftover turkey chili from last night.

    Hungry all the time?

It's most likely NOT hunger, you are probably mistaking the "bite" of acid in your stomach for hunger. I feel that too, but it isn't accompanied by growling and it doesn't feel quite the same. When you combine the mental "hunger" of missing things you liked eating, and the adjustments to tiny portion sizes, it can FEEL like hunger...but it's not quite the same. I don't feel anything like "traditional" hunger, right now. I get acid buildup a little on an empty stomach (getting better all the time) but no rumbling - the rumbling went away after about four weeks, it was just a symptom of my stomach recovery, I think (and it would happen after I ate, as well as before). Just stick to a schedule, eat when you're supposed to eat and don't eat when you're not. Surgery's not a turnkey solution, it does still require some self-discipline. If you get into the habit of "grazing" you're going to suffer calorie creep, and your weight loss will slow.

I also had a low BMI. I was self pay on May 15th and I've lost 20 pounds. I've had three stalls in 5 weeks. Losing extremely slow which is fine with me...its just scary and frustrating

    Frustrated-please help me understand

Well maybe I can make a few suggestions, I hope it helps... firstly you answered your first remedy. Try getting some physical activity in, at least 30 minutes per day. This can burn an additional 500 calories to your total. In one week that's an extra pound of loss you wouldn't get otherwise. And second, for me it's not really HOW MUCH I'm eating, its more WHAT I'm eating. I'm carb sensitive to an extent. If I eat more than I should it will slow down my weight loss. Try to keep a log of what your eating every day. Mix it up and try new things. Try to figure out what is keeping you from losing your desired amounts. I'd just like to also point out that remaining positive will keep the stressor hormones down. Be proud of your accomplishments, and try not to seek out the failure mentality that has plagued us for so long. Those days are far behind you. All the best.
  13. I think you look terrific! My husband and I started doing WII dance and I can tell I'm using muscles I havent used in a long time..or ever! It was 28 outside today so walking a mile or so wasn't going to happen, LOL The WII is so fun too.. You just kind of move in funny ways to try to match the person on the video.. Anyway, I thought I would share because my weight has not been overly big either and I was bummed out.. 3 weeks tomorrow and only 15 pounds! Take care

3 minths post op low bmi with pics

20 pounds in a month is hardly a stall. Thats awesome! Make sure you have a scale that measures ounces. Sometimes a few ounces makes a difference. Weigh ur self same time everyday same amount of clothes. (I always weight in the morning with no clothes on). Always take Vitamins everyday. Dont focus so much on working out right away do small walks and little things. I learned only eat when im hungry and I dont worry about eating all the meals I just listen to my body and eat when im hungry. Watch out on drinking too many calories. Its really easy to do! It goes down easy lol. Its hard. The hardest part is going out to eat with family. I want to eat and keep eating my body doesnt let me. Sitting there at first felt awkward. I just want to eat like everyone else. Im getting use to it now and have a few learning lessons of eating too much and ending up in the bathroom throwing up for 20 mins. NOT FUN! At the end its worth it and I would do it again in a minute. Its crazy to know ill lose the weight and guess what....it wont come back!! Good luck in ur journey

A Slow Loss Is Still A Loss ;)

I am right there with you! It seems like the scale is moving slowly but look at how much smaller your clothing is already. I really realize it when I am folding laundry. You have made fantastic progress and you look great. I was sleeved 2 days before you and our numbers are pretty much the same. I have those really snug 12's hanging in the closet and I know I will be in them in a couple more weeks.

Your case is a little different. You are in the very classic "3rd Week Stall". For you, the only thing that's going to get it moving again is patience. The 3rd week stall can last anywhere from 2-5 weeks. Mine lasted about 10 days. *hugs*
  18. So last night ate some ricotta bake got sleeved 6 weeks ago this sixth of July down 50lbs. Following diet on point.. even with a somewhat conservative plan compared to many. Anyways last I woke up feeling like I was choking I messed up ate a little later than I would have like I went to bathroom didn't throw up but spit up brownish sour coffee grind type stuff. Should I be worried stools have not been abnormal and feeling great otherwise. Thanks

    Terrible heartburn!

I agree the omeprazole was only temporary for me. I was on 20mgs from day 1, increased to 40 mgs around mnth 3 and stopped entirely by 6mths out. Can you balance out the prilosec by increasing your Calcium supplements? If your doctors are doing routine bloodwork they will notice any changes and can take you off it. Chronic heartburn is not good for you either as it can leads to ulcers and other issues.
  20. I was adjusted last Wednesday and have not really been hungry ever since. I was wondering if I should still eat even if I am not feeling hunger. When I get up in the morning I am not hungry at all. Sometimes by lunch time I still have no desire to eat. I'm worried that if I don't eat three small meals a day then I won't be giving my body what it needs. Is it possible I have too much restriction? My nurse told me to wait about a week and call back if my appetite doesn't come back. Just curious if this has happenend to anybody else and what I should do about it. :help:
  21. I had my surgery 3 years ago and I remember the gas pains! The second day after my surgery, the pain was horrible. I chewed some Gas-X and it helped immediately. The pain was in my shoulder area and neck. I never had much pain in the surgery site other than about a week after my surgery, I must have rolled over on my stomach while I was asleep. That's how I've always slept flat on my stomach. Well, it woke me up and scared me to death thinking I probably has screwed something up. The pain was around my port site. I stayed up the rest of the night worrying I had messed up the whole procedure. I called my doctor the first thing the next morning and he assured me that everything would be OK. After taking a much needed nap, I woke up and was feeling fine. I even went grocery shopping that afternoon. I went back to work the day after that and other than being tired, I was fine. I felt like I had no energy for a couple of weeks but no pain. Did your surgeon give you a breathing thing? I don't remember what it's called but I used mine every hour. The told me it would help clear ny lungs. Ask your doctor about this. Hopefully things will start improving for you soon!

    Please help...slipped band

Thanks Susan...That is encouraging news. I am going back in a week and my NP is hopeful that that will be enough time. Well, I am hopeful (but I am also a realist). I think I can handle a week but A MONTH!!! I am so afraid of gaining the weight back. I am going to continue my work outs as I have been with hopes of continuing my weight loss. I'm curious, did you gain during that month? Thank you so much for sharing your experience with me. God Bless
  23. :confused:I did not have any of the pain any of you speak of, My port did feel like a bee bite for a few days, Of couse the insisions hurt some but not bad, just like a cut on the finger. I did not even need pain meds after the first time they gave it to me in the hospital. Bought a bottle for home and still have not used it since November 2007. Only trouble I had was I could eat or drink nothing for 4 weeks. That was really rough, considering I was throwing up so much I do not know where the moisture in my body was coming from. God took care of me there, Lost 40 pounds the first month. Not nearly enough since.
  24. I'd be surprised if you could get in a whole egg plus the 1/4cup hash. I'm almost 3 months out and am full full on 2 eggs.. Just eat til your satisfied like you've been doing but track your food if you can to make sure you're getting your protein.
