Hello all!! I too was banded July 13th and this is what has helped me : -gas x strips (NO) didn't work for me, but may for u. One reason is because these strips are meant to move gas trapped INSIDE the intestines, well our gas isn't trapped in the intestines -after I took pain medicine, I would pull my knees up to my chest as far as they would go! This got things moving! -fetal position and rocked-this too got things moving -just sit on the toilet and move around ...think "channeling the poot" lol!! -massage your stomach and surrounding areas! -HEATING PAD! (Now this one, especially with my back was GOD SENT! lol) After day 3-4 Im still having a small amount, but my stomach isn't as bloated! Good luck to u!

Exercise and drinkng water
Melissannde replied to JanPuppyLover's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In my experience, the small sips is for the immediate post-op period and a while during the first 6 weeks. I was eventually able to drink fairly normally again. I still cannot take HUGE gulps, but I can drink adequately to stay hydrated and I workout alot, although not outside this time of year. I do RPM which is estimated at a 13 to 15 mile ride... Everyone is different however. If you get to where you can't drink enough to stay adequately hydrated, you may have too much Fluid in your band and this is fixed by a small unfill. easy enough. Hope this answers your question. -
Exercise and drinkng water
shakey88 replied to JanPuppyLover's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am almost 7 weeks post-op and I do not have a problem taking large amounts of water in. It was only the first 3-4 weeks that I had to sip. I have been able to drink as much as I need to so I am hydrated. I hope this helps. I also should say that I do not have any fluid in my band either! -
Hey Guys, Hope everyone is well. I haven't been around for quite a while due to being really busy at work, and just generally getting back into routine and "normal life" after my op. Everything has been going great, hit a two-week stall but finally came out the other side this morning which is a relief. I am now down 30lb! Hooray! I have noticed one thing though, which is that I have been feeling nauseous a lot over the past week. Like actually urging at the slightest thing, especially in the morning when trying to take my tablets. I had no trouble whatsoever with feeling sick until now, and as I am almost 8 weeks out I would have thought it would have affected me before now if it was going to. Then tonight I realised that my period is three days late... Now I realise that a) it isnt' VERY late yet, and I am probably worrying for nothing, weight loss can affect your periods, c) I have been on the pill and therefore highly unlikely that I am pregnant. But I still can't help worrying. I wish it wasn't so late in the evening so I could go and buy a test to put my mind at rest. Nowhere sells them at this time of night here. My body has been through a lot over the last couple of months, so I wouldn't be surprised if my hormones are totally messed up. Hy head tells me that my period will start soon and I am being silly, there is nothing to worry about.... but my heart feels like it is going to go pop. I know that no-one can tell me the answer, but I just needed to type it out. Somehow it helps! Thanks for listening. Cross your fingers for me! xx

Hey everyone! So I have started my diet which consists of 2-3 protein shakes a day. What brands of powder do you all suggest? My surgeons office recommends the brand that they sell at the office (bariatric fusion), but if I could buy it at the grocery store it would be much cheaper. Thanks!

Thank you for the suggestions. I will call her tomorrow. I did cardio today and it was a little better. Still not the best. It did start a week after switching to the patches but it is close to that time of the month and I did have a non-stop runny nose this morning (I live in Vegas, it is not cold). So who knows, I hope she can help. It just sucks because I was loving all the extra energy I had. I felt amazing these past 2 months.

I'm only 4.5 weeks out and I'm already scared of this! Some days (or foods) I seem to be able to eat more and some days it seems like a lot less. I feel full quickly (maybe 3 oz or so) but I get hungry often, every two hours or so. Thanks for posting, maybe I can save myself some worry around the 6 month mark

Got my Approval 3/6/13 -- Surgery 4/1/2013
caznoid17 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm so excited to finally get things going. Although, now that I got the approval call and actually have a surgery date it's all becoming real. I'm pretty nervous, but I know my future is so much brighter! I'll be able to do some much more with my kids... that's the real motivator for me! -
Unfortunately looks like I’ll be back for another this week. Coupled with a 3 week stall I am no happy RNY camper.

wow, i totally had this happen to me 2 weeks ago. I had to get a complete unfill, and eat more often. Ill start getting a fill again in a lil bit. That 8 days where i was experiencing this scared the bee jeeezeus out of me. But my body seems to be regulating again and the episodes are not happening. Good luck, keep us posted!

I Came Out Of The Closet This Week With Another Friend.....
Queen of Crop posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm really selective who I tell about this surgery, but I told one more friend....not sure how I feel about it. I posted some of my thoughts on my Sunday blog. Part of me wants to tell the world, but then part of me thinks I took the easy way out....especially when I know how hard it is to lose the traditional way.....and I think some people think this is cheating...???? Anyway, I'm happy to keep it to myself with only a few people knowing... Either way, it's nice to be back in Hilo, Hawaii again.....tried on some clothes I hadn't seen in a year; and have posted a photo like you see on TV on my site...I had fun 'shopping! I Came Out Of The Closet This Week With Another Friend.....
cookies replied to Queen of Crop's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think I've decided I'm going to be completely open about it. Part of me wants to go into the "it's none of your business" area, but I figure if I'm taking three weeks off from work for the surgery, and then I (hopefully) will drop a hundred pounds in six to nine months, I think it's going to be pretty obvious. -
I am in the same boat, I had my surgery on 6/21 and I was down 13 lbs and now have been holding at the same weight for 3 days. Guess I have to get more walking in[emoji12]

My moms on her 2 week Pre-op low fat diet. We can't find any fat free salad dressing that's low in sugar also. I found a spray dressing that's low fat (1g for 10 sprays). Is that ok to use? Also, are artichokes ok to eat? They weren't on the list. Thanks everyone!

Waiting For Approval!
The Icy One replied to BillieG's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The waiting for approval wasteland is a hot, dry, terrible, lonely place, isn't it? I languished there for five weeks, while my insurance company kept me waiting for their decision. It was h*ll. H*ll, I tell ya! Hang in there. You'll hear, soon, get your surgery date and be all set to go. -

Hi all. Man here. I got banded on 3/12 and had my first fill this past Monday with 3cc added. I had some initial restriction after I had the procedure but after a few weeks I noticed I was able to eat respectable amounts that weren’t going to allow me to lose any additional weight. I can definitely tell I have more restriction now after my fill but I am having a hard time determining if what I am feeling is food getting stuck or if this is my “new full”. After I eat I notice it feels like food is backing up in my esophagus and my chest gets real tight…is this my new full?? This may be TMI but I even feel like I could probably bring the food up if I had to and being on the verge of throwing it up if I take another bite. If I take this as my queue to stop eating and once the food has time to “drain through the funnel” I find myself feeling hungry again pretty quick. I had a bowl of chicken noodle Soup for lunch today with a fat free pudding and felt very satisfied at the time but now I feel very hungry! Am I not eating enough? Do I need to try eating more at meal time but just more slowly? Am I not chewing thoroughly? I appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

Hi IM Erikka. im from corvallis oregon. Im a single mother who has suffered wiht her weight all her life. I am currently 346 lbs.....lost a lb in a week woohoooo....about a year ago I looked into bariatric surgery but was leaning towards bypass... well I chickened out of sourse and stopped thinking about it. well a few months ago during my regular councling sessions I realized that i was finally emotionally ready to have bariatric surgery and change my life and eating habbits for good. so when i started looking into the types of surgery I really was scared of the bypass idea and leaning more towards the lap band. well on the 15th of september i went to an orentation for bartiatric surgery at OHSU in Portland. That was when i was sure that I wanted the lap band. I wasnt wanting to do it for major weight loss persay... but to get healthier and be able to do activities that I use to enjoy doing like hiking, walking on the beach, or swimming without taking breaks and being winded.. or just not being able to do them at all. I dont want to die early from morbid obesity.. I want to be around for my young son's life and watch his children grow up. anyways Im doing all the paper work and pre-appointment apointments that I need to take care of... you know the physicals, and labs and what not that the surgons want. So homefully this time next year I will have had my surgery or at least have my date for surgery. Cant wait to meet you! have a great day! Erikka

I feel so guilty!
DragonSingapore replied to fletcher97701's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Agreed with the others. Don't feel guilty. First of all, you will be allowed to eat that kind of food once your stomach heals. So it is not like you were eating some forbidden food that packs in the calories. Just get back on track. I am on my 16th day of liquids and I have experimented ever so slightly here and there with a little thicker stuff....or today I had to break down and have a very runny boiled egg to get some Protein in me before my workout. The main issue with the first few weeks is to allow proper healing to take place more so than the number of calories you are taking in. You will note that most doctors say that ONLY in the first few weeks can you have certain drinks/liquids that are higher in calories that you should not consume following your healing. This is to allow you to have enough energy on a very reduced diet so take advantage of this, enjoy it and view it as the start of a longer journey. From a view of 30,000 I think we can all agree that 2 oz of Beans barely registers! -
I started walking every day after getting home and eventually got back into the gym. I started gradually increasing the speed on the treadmill to where I have now gotten to the point of actually running. I will do the elliptical machine also. In all I will do about 45-60 minutes of "cardio" exercise a day. I may now have to try the spin class thanks mamamareli for the idea on that one. I have also been cleared as of this week to start lifting weights again.
