    Things are going GREAT!

I get on the scale at the Doctors office and ever week or two.
  3. Hi Ladies, I don't meet the requirements, I live in Central Florida, but wanted to say, "Hi" anyway. I just had my 2 year bandiversary in Oct. I, too, struggle with my band and maintenance. I just had a revision after slippage, and now have 3 1/2 cc in my port. I feel I, also, need a fill. I go next week. So, Hello and good luck to you all! Karen
  4. Alright, I'm kinda new around here and I just recently got filled so that I'm finally losing weight. In the last 3 and a half weeks I'm down almost 18 pounds (liquids, blenderized, soft, etc) and I've changed nothing in the way that I'm eating over the weekend. But now the scale went up 6 pounds since Friday. Now, could this huge weight increase be because I'm supposed to "start" pretty soon or what? I'm keeping track of all of my foods/calories/protein like I should be. I'm getting 1200 - 1500 cal. per day and 60 - 70 grams of protein a day. I'm only drinking water like I should be and I'm walking, like I should be. But it's just frustrating that after weeks of losing I started to gain some this weekend and of course, I go back to my doctor tomorrow. Could starting your period really cause that much of a weight (water, more than likely) increase? What can you do to help it along as well? Thanks!

I am getting banded today!!! Omg!

2 months post op and I do not regret it. I am amazed how such a small amount if food keeps me satisfied and the 3-4 hours. So much easier than my past dieting. This tool was the missing link in my weightloss success. First week was hellish the gas pains killed me but after that I was back to old me. Eating in public first time was scary but you know what no one cared what I are or how little good luck and this forum is a great place to be as well I read lost daily to stay focused and motivated
  6. Lucabelle, my stall lasted 10 weeks....altho the scale didn't move, my clothes were fitting looser so I know I was losing inches. I was 6 months postop when that stall happened:( Hang in there...you're only 3 weeks out!

    exercising

My doctor cleared me for whatever exercise I wanted 2 weeks post op. I've been doing boot camp 1-3x/week since, and I go fishing at least every two weeks. I've started doing a little yoga, and I've been using my Wii Fit Plus now that I under the weight limit on the balance board (yay!) Be well…
  8. I had my 2nd fill last Friday 8/30 and I've already lost three lbs. I'm so happy that FINALLY I've started to see things changing. I was weighing myself everyday (because the scale wasn't moving much) but now I'll wait till my 3rd fill in 14 days!!! YEYYYYY ME!!!!

    Gallbladder & Lapband at 64??

Brian, Since the Gallbladder surgery and lapband surgery can be done at the same time, it makes sense to me to go ahead with the lapband too. You recover once instead of twice. The recovery is a breeze. It seems like your doctor is okay with the risk since he said it can be done at the same time. The question to be answered is "are you prepared to change a lifetime of poor food decisions and the pychological loss of your best friend?" You are going to have to find new ways to entertain yourself that doesn't involve a stop for fast food. For me it was easy to make the decision because I was finally hopeful that the Lapband was the answer to 18 years of dieting and weighing 100 pounds more than I did at 38. I am 56, female and enjoy excellent health. ( other than achey knees and lower back from extra weight. ) The hardest part for me was the head hunger which was pretty strong in the first few weeks. I am now, one month post op and no longer struggle with that. In fact, I am hardly ever hungry. It may even be helpful for my grandkids because I am not dragging them to fast food and restaurants for treats and entertainment to feed my own habit. Good luck in your decision and finally, I would ask myself..."What do you have to lose?"

    September banders

Banded sept 30th. approx 12 lb weight loss in 3 weeks. My incision where my port is burns and still having slight amount of drainage anyone else have this?
  15. I had some things that "helped" me accelerate my weight loss, including a stricture that kept me from eating solids for several weeks and a two week bout of stomach flu, so I know that it's not quite typical. Things are slowing down for me and I've been losing and regaining the same 5 pounds for the last two weeks XD, so I understand your frustration. When I stall, I usually try a couple things. First, I go back to basics. I write down everything I eat, down to the last bite. I focus on Protein first with no extras and getting all my Water in and I find that somewhere along the line I've been adding a snack here or there mindlessly. Get a little extra exercise, too. Some people swear by upping caloric intake to get out of a stall. I've also heard that people have good results with Diva's Boot Camp, if you search for that post. Nobody knows for certain why we stall when we're all eating next to nothing. Sometimes it's glycogen related, but sometimes we just don't lose. Keep perspective that even though it doesn't seem like a lot... it really is. Could I have lost weight without the surgery? Certainly not so much and certainly not without being absolutely miserable. I think sometimes the hardest part is just keeping perspective on our weight loss because after so long we finally feel it's going to work and we just want to be successful already and so we get frustrated even when we know it's not a magic weight loss surgery.
  16. I am only 9 weeks out of surgery, I am feeling great however for the past 3 weeks I have stalled. I have gained a pound, lost a pound, for 3 WEEKS!!! I am eating my 'soft' foods, getting in my Proteins, my Water, upp'd my exercise (walking) and still no change. I know all about the 3 week stall, that lasted about 6 days for me but not this 9 week stall. It's so frustrating and I feel like I am already a failure ..... anyone else experienced this?
  17. I went in to see my PCP having been sleeved on 12/5. I told him I was disappointed with my weight loss compared to others. I know. I know. We should not compare ourselves but we all do. I weighed 280 when I was there in his office in November. The day I was in his office I weighed 252. Today I am down to 247.6 I am thrilled to be loosing but when I read about the people who lose 70-100 lbs in 3 months I just have to wonder what am I doing wrong. My PCP shook his head and ask me to consider my journey in its entirety My biggest recorded weight in his office was 386lbs in 2006. I fought down to 270 by 2008 and then bounced around 260 to 300 until I received by sleeve in 2012. All you dieters know that in order to lose over 100 lbs and keep it off for years I had already made major changes tommy eatting patterns. My PCP explain to me that because the surgery was not a big shock to my body I did see the big change. I most definitely eat less calories on a continued bases now but my NUT actual ask me to up my calories from the 900 I was doing to 1300-1500 pre surgery. Does anyone else think that is kind of comical. I have seen many stalls over the years even when doing the right things. My PCP say the body has set points where it will not want to let go of more. That is when I need to up calories a day or two the back off. Also I must up what I am forcing the body to urn during a stall. That is very hard for me I am no fan of exercise but I press on. My PCP told me to realize had I not already had made so many changes before surgery I would have seen a bigger difference but I would have been at a much higher starting weight to begin with. So I guess it all evens out in the end. This made me feel better about the lost post surgery. My hope with surgey was it would take me down the next hundred as my body seemed unwilling to go down below 260 even after that 6 month supervised 900 calorie diet the NUT complained was to low. So I do feel an accomplishment to be at 247.6 it is my lowest adult weight. I certainly hope to keep moving down the scale. My current limits 800 calories 50 carbs and 70 Protein. I try to walk uphill at 3mph for 30 mins 5 times a week. Yes it is a journey but I feel like I am running the hardest marathon ever!
  18. I think you're doing great! That's a lot to lose in just two short months. I think a lot of those huge fast weight losses are also with folks who started off heavier than you did at your sleeve weight. I've read in medical journals that the overall average loss with the sleeve tends to be 10 - 15 lbs per month. Upping the calories makes a lot of sense. I read somewhere about the science behind stalls, Water weight and the like. Sometimes it takes a calorie increase to get back to losing. You're to be congratulated on your success! Also, just think that pre-sleeve how much would you have gained during this past holiday season? Best of luck on your continued success.

    I'm getting scared

Thanks for the encouragement, I may need you guys to get me thru this week. I am trying not to let my family know how nervous I am. They all think that I am crazy as it is. Not for the surgery, cause my sister and daughter have had gastric bypass, but for going to Mexico to have it done and going by myself. I think now I am focused on learning about fills. Any good info?

    Vitamin D

Mine was 10 and they gave me prescription vitamin d, which you take once a week (weird, right?). Only brought it up slightly so they refilled the prescription. It had NO effect on surgery date. they just said I might need vitamin d injections down the road. Good luck!

I Was, In A Free Wls Contest

Thank you for visiting this blog. Many of you will be able to relate to my story. Just a few months ago I was in a very low dark place when a friend sent me a text. It was a link to a contest for a free lap band surgery. In my negative mind set I thought "yeah right! Like that would ever happen!" Well, three months later I received a phone call from the surgerons office telling me I was a finalist!! I couldn't believe it! There is light at the end of the tunnel! So here is my plea....The contest winners are determined by voting. The two with the hightest amount of votes wins. Please vote for me Christina L. UpDate: 4/17/2012 I believe it was the American Author Greg Anderson that said "Focus on the journey, not the destination.." By now most of you are aware I did not win the contest. It's true, one week ago today I received the phone call from the contest rep that began with "Unfortunately....." It was not the call I had expected. As you can imagine this has been a long emotional roller coaster ride. Though this adventure in my life's journey has come to an end I will reflect on the lessons learned and tell the funny stories for many days to come. Like when my mother and I tried to use one of the computer labs at my sisters college. Apparently it was very obvious we were NOT students and it was our FIRST time using that Mac computer. A chipper young student named Tuesday busted us but kindly help us "old folks" figure it out rather than reporting us to the "Lab Watchdogs". (yes it was a Tuesday and yes her name really was Tuesday) Most importantly though, I want to sincerely thank each of you for all your encouragement and support. Thank you all so much!
  23. I just finished my pre-op testing today. I had a sleep study done a couple of months ago, followed by an EGD (endoscopy) a month later. Today, I went to the hospital that I'm having the surgery at (in a week!). A nurse took a quick medical history, vitals (blood pressure, pulse, heartbeat) then took me to a lab for an EKG, which is totally painless. Then I had a couple of vials of blood drawn for standard pre-op testing (CBC, Chem-7, Full Metabolic Panel, etc.) and gave a urine sample. Then I had a chest xray and that was it.
  24. I woke up yesterday 12/21. I was pretty nervous and my wife and I headed out to the hospital at 8:30 am, my surgery time was at 11 am. I was called into presurgery around 10 am and was VERY VERY nervous. I was not nervous at all until the night before. They slipped me a pre-surgery drug to relax me and off to the operating room I went. I was in recovery and awake by 12:30. I wok up fat and was able to move pretty easily. I was up and walking around the hospital by 1:30. I have hoestly felt pretty good. I have not needed any pain medication. I feel like I have done 500 sit up. I am a bit sore when I cough too, but nothing unmanagable. I got home from the hospital about 3 pm today. Went to blockbuster on the way home and am having a movie night on the recliner. I am not hungry. I am able to get 2-3 oz down per meal. I did chew my Vitamins today and felt a but uncomfortable for a couple minutes, but nothing major. I am having a hard time staying on top of the Water. I cannot believe that I finally did it. I did not have to be on a two week liquid diet prior to surgery, only 24 hours beofre. As of today I already lost 11 pounds, most I am positive i water. But it is a start. Enough for now, off to watch a movie.

    Has anyone else had nausea?

I've had problems getting nauseated easily most of my life (car sick in mountains, sea sick, sick on planes, etc...) so it didn't surprise me that I was nauseated off and on for a couple weeks after surgery. I didn't want to take a chance on damaging my staple line by vomiting, so I took Zophran at bedtime for 3 weeks because if I didn't, I would wake up in the early morning hours feeling pretty sick. I occasionally took it during the day if I was feeling queasy. By week 3 I was just taking 1/2 dose at bedtime and none during the day. By week 4, the nausea had passed completely. I didn't really notice any side effects from the medication and it worked wonders. I haven't thrown up one time since surgery. The sublingual tablets are easy to take and they work pretty quickly.
