    Going back to horse riding

I was a band to sleeve revision and they had me wait either 6 or 8 weeks - don't recall.

    Going from Band to Sleeve

My band never really worked for me. I got mine in 2006. I felt that I needed to get it revised because I started having issues with it. Pain, vomiting, slime and nausea were always there. My band surgeon told me nothing was wrong. In hindsight, I should have never had it .I had to many problems with it and not enough weight loss. No regrets on the revision so far. It's good to have the band gone. I'm seeing results and feeling much better now.
  5. There are a couple of factors at play here. Yes, revisions typically show slower results than an original or virgin WLS. Think of it this way - when you had your first surgery, your stomach had a capacity of somewhere in the 32-64 oz neighborhood, depending upon how much you stretched it at a meal; after surgery and some months or years of adaptation and growth, your stomach would have a capacity of maybe 4-8 oz. that you had learned to live with, so there isn't nearly the difference in capacity with your revision surgery. There are also some metabolic and hormonal changes that come with the surgery that help you over your "normal" obese state, and that change is now less with a revision. Further, if you had a pre-op diet where you lost the initial 20ish lb, you have already lost most of that quick and easy water weight that we lose when we first start a major weight loss effort; those of us who never had a pre-op diet will experience that rapid water weight loss soon after surgery and will show those impressive numbers that you sometimes see in the forums.
  6. hi all! I had a revision from sleeve to bypass on May 30th, and 6 weeks in I only lost 17 pounds from surgery day so far. preop highest: 260, Surgery Day: 241, CW: 224 Is anyone else having issues? I am getting my 60 g of protein, 64 oz of water, and walking more (maybe 2-3 miles a day). I am getting SO frustrated when I see others at 6 weeks down 20-50 pounds. Any suggestions, or similar issues?

    Sleeve or Lapband?

I don't want a lap band. I didn't want to worry about maintenance and another surgery on the future. Half the people in the hospital when I was being sleeved were there for a lap band removal and sleeve revision. That certainly told me I chose the right one. I'm so over worrying about diets and didn't want a future surgery.

Revision Of My Sleeve Plication To Vsg

After reading the other person's post I was really scared. Then I thought who pays $10,000 for a VSG. Is this really true? Anyhow, after saying a prayer I made the decision to continue on with my revision since my deposit was made, my flight booked and my mind made up. I headed out one day early before the surgery on January 5th to Juarez Mexico at the Star Medica Hospital to have my revision from Plication to Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy. I went alone by the way, crazy thing to do. On my first day I almost wanted to cancel everything because I became scared and depressed. I took my magicjack with me and talk to my family to keep me strong. Now I am so happy I had my surgery. The doctors and staff were amazing. When I woke up from surgery I wasn't even throwing up or feeling horrible pain. There was some pain from the incision and some dizziness, but it was managable. The Plication was a completely different recovery. I vomitted and was so ill after awaken from surgery. I was horribly sick for 2 weeks and was not able to stand on my feet for long. That time my flight back home was like a nightmare in my memory. With the VSG my travel back home last night was okay. I got wheelchair service and the 6hours flight was somewhat tiring but okay. It is now 4days after my surgery and I am so excited to start my second weight loss journey: thanks to Belite weight and Dr. Jose Rodriguez. Not forgetting to thank my weightloss friends for their words of advice and encouragement. God Bless Us All.
  9. Has anyone had any experience w/ the pre existing condition insurance through the govt paying for revision ( band to sleeve ) ? I Have heard some rumblings of it ? Anyone have this insurance and had the revision ? If so what was the process ? Thanks

    Revision After Pregnancy

@@mrich612 Thank you so much! I was hunting and hunting for any sort of revision support and it seems to be very scarce. I would love to talk to you further about your process if you are willing!
  11. $17,000 In had an extended tummy tuck with a anchor cut, mons lift, breast lift and silicone implants. The price included the implants, the Surgery, all OR fees, and surgery center fees, the anestesthiologist, 2 nights in a healing facility with round the clock nursing care. All garments all follow up Pre and post op visits to my Dr. it did not include pre-op testing, or prescriptions, BUT my insurance covered all of these with only a co-pay out of my pocket. I ended up having a wound seperation issue with the tummy tuck, (i'm diabetic and this is more common then most know) Anyways my Ps came to the hotel to see me every day after work, then I went to his office every week for another months then every 2 weeks for another months after that. He would give me some of the creams and guaze that would be needed by us to take care of the issue. I ended up having to have a revision, he did that for free, and all follow up care also. I only had to pay a very small fee to the OR and Anastesthiologist for the revision this past May. Kelly

    I should have asked sooner...

As far as pain goes...neither our daughter nor I had any immediate post-op pain or incisional pain with the BR. My plastic surgeon--who is very good and very REAL (as opposed to what you usually find in the Beverly Hills area) says that that is more often the case than not with BR patients. The healing process is tedious...our daughter's worst week was the third week post-op...she wasn't really sick but whe wasn't back to normal and she was tired of being needy. Just this morning, I felt a few seconds of a stab of pain along the panniculectomy revision incision. The On-Q pain pump is in there. The model I have--I just looked it up--is supposed to give about four days relief. So, from Thursday afternoon to Sunday morning before feeling ANYTHING, is pretty good. I'm hoping to get another day and a half out of it. I will confess to taking a half a Vicodin, though, but not for what one might think. The crook of my right arm--where they had me tied down for hours--is killing me. And the getting up and getting down is harder at home than it was in the hospital...so arm and leg pain from the pulling is what I'm treating. Weird. Advertising for doctor...not on payroll, no discounts provided...but if you are in the Los Angeles area... http://www.drandrewcohen.com Advertising for the pain pump http://www.iflo.com/prod_onq_classic.php There you go.

    I should have asked sooner...

Deal is...every time my band is tight enough, I get reflux. This time, i was reluctant to let him tighten it vey much at all. So, my weight loss stalled, reversed, went up and down for a while and is minimal. That said, I had the TT and I am about to have it "revised." I knew going in that such a huge amputation would need tweaking after the fact. So I'll probably have them done together. I'll keep you posted. Meanwhile, I'm delighted that I had it done.

    Surgery June 12!

@Diva302 I was revised from a lapband after two miserable years of blaming myself for the band's failure (I gained 20 pounds). Expect a stall three weeks post-op. It happens to the best of us. Everyone's journey is different, but I know it's hard not compare your loss with someone else's. I know I did. I was a slow loser. By the end of the first month, I had lost 14.5 pounds. I know most patients lose that in the first week. By 15 weeks, I had lost 40 pounds, and by 25 weeks I had lost 53 pounds. At one year, I'm 77 pounds lighter and wear a size 8-10 pants and a medium top. I rode my bike a lot last summer, but that's the extent of my exercise. Ninety-percent of my weight loss has been what has gone into my mouth and from drinking water. I had a few weeks when my body didn't want to let go of the weight, but then "whoosh," it would drop 3 pounds in a week. Let you body have those moments to sigh and take a breath without freaking out. Trust your surgery. The first three months are the hardest. You'll have cravings but also days when nothing tastes like it used to. That will pass. And so will the gas....oh, my. Be prepared for that adventure.

    REVISIONS

I had a revision back on June 16th 2017. I went from a VGB that was done in 1994 to a RNY on 6/16/2016 I had managed to keep off all the weight of for 20 years but the last two years it just came up and out of nowhere. But that wasn’t the issue the issue was that I had severe Gerd and major pain where the filter was located at. It had weakened over the years and it was very painful when I would eat or drink anything. That made it impossible for me to keep anything down. So my surgery was done to correct that issue. I’m now down 35 pounds and feeling [emoji817] better. No more pain thank goddess!! Now I’m having issues getting my primary insurance to pay for the sugary as it’s a non covered procedure. My secondary has paid some but I’m now appealing the denial. I hope it gets approved, otherwise I’m stuck paying 174k, as I was in the hospital for a week. Because of the type of surgery and how invasive it was a 3 day stay was minimum but I had complications due to my blood count being so low so I had to stay a little longer. Roux En Y After Lapband

Omg, I'm NOT alone I have the lap band and I was doing great (sw 230) then I got pregnant got my band unfilled and well now I've gained it all back well, I'm at 210, my baby is 2 now. My band has a slight slip, I can't get anymore fills and I can't get under 200lbs:( so I'm waiting on an approval from bcbs of AL to see if they'll cover my revision. I'm so anxious to get this done and be back on my way to my goal weight, it's like starting all over and I feel like a loser cause I have family (who are all thin, btw) saying stuff like I should give up, I already tried to be skinny I'm not built that way and what if this fails but I'm not giving up!
  17. I had my revision may 30 2014 I feel great pain wise . I feel the food gets stuck where the band was around . I have a lot of stomach acid that mimics hunger . I sometimes will feel a pain where the port was and it some times feels like it's still there the port that is or something is rock hard some times .
  18. I don't know what made me lose weight with no fills..it has just worked for me. I feel satisfied and I don't think about food all day. if i stop feeling satisfied or start obsessing over food, i will have a fill. My port revision was covered by my insurance, so I don't know what would happen for self payers, but that is a question I would ask my doctor, just so you have all the info you need for whatever might happen. as far as the support group. I had not had the surgery before I went to the meeting. you can really just show up. the support group leader doesn't know you haven't had the surgery and he won't kick you out. you can just tell him you are considering it and you are there to have some questions answered before you decide. The doctors are not present at the support groups.

    Thread Removed? Re:septic

I found it under Band to Gastric Sleeve revisions. There are other threads when you search on septic.
  20. The best that I can think of would be Dr. Ara Keshisian out here in California, as he is one of the handful of docs that can do the complex RNY to DS revision, and he seems to be able to do other complicated procedures that others can't or won't do. Closer to you, Drs. David Greenbaum in NJ and Mitchell Roslin in NYC are also well regarded for complex procedures and worth consulting. Good Luck....

    Sleeve to bypass

I’m right there with ya. I’m 3.5 years out from my sleeve and have my revision to RNY scheduled for 10/4, due to reflux and regain (HW 246, LW 186, CW 233). I’m nervous and excited too. Looking forward to seeing your progress!
  22. The surgery did most of the hard work, I just helped. After my sleeve I was not hungry and my sleeve did not care for many foods I had loved when I was fat. Bread balled up in my stomach and swelled and felt awful, so I quit eating bread, muffins, cakes, biscuits, all those bready foods, pasta and rice, too. I learned to recognize when I was full and stopped before then. After three months of mostly protein I lost my taste for sweets and I figured I shouldn't tempt myself. So really my sleeve got me eating the way doctors and nutritionists say you should anyway. Protein, vegetables, fruit, some nuts, not much fat or sugar. So no secrets. Look at my signature for my stats. I love my sleeve but I have GERD now. Revising to bypass tomorrow.
  23. I was sleeved (revision from band) on 4/27/15 and really struggled through the first 3 months feeling like it just wasn't happening for me! I am close to three and a half months post-op and wanted to share some things that plagued me the first few months. It gets better! I have finally hit a stride and feel like I will be successful after all!! Tiredness/Fatigue: Weeks 2-8, I felt like crap. No energy. Naps were required! I really worried that THIS would be my life forever! It's really not. I had put my body through a LOT and it needed to catch up! Feeling great now! Stall: Yep, total HALT weeks 3-7! I worried that I had done all of this surgery for less than 30 pounds. I was so down about this! I stayed the course and now I am back to losing daily (ounces sometimes, but daily)! I am tucking this advice away for inevitable future stalls myself! Don't give up! scales LIE: My scale obsession is still alive and kicking but I no longer panic. The scale will not always reflect your body's changes. To combat this, measure yourself or notice the way clothes are fitting looser. For me, taking a full length photo of front and side views and using a photo app to put them side-by-side gave me proof I needed. Constipation: I was constantly trying different things to make me poop. I didn't have discomfort.... I just felt like I should be pooping more. Well, I decided to let my body work it out. I now poop once every 5 days. If I feel discomfort of course I will use Ducolax or SmoothMove Tea but I am not constantly focused on daily pooping. Water and Protein Goals: These are still a struggle and some days I can only do one and not the other. I try every but I no longer panic... I focus on these two things first and do the best I can. "Cheating": I have come to terms with my imperfection. I make every attempt to make wise choices, but I don't beat myself up about a bite of my son's chocolate bar... I used buy three of them and give him one! LOL Hang in there! It is worth it... YOU are worth it.

    Pessimistic Psychologist

She's not a surgeon right? Listen to them, not her. I had a similar experience with my primary care doctor telling me that I should use her new Protein shake program instead of having revision surgery. She doesn't know what she's talking about so I chose to not listen. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  25. Sorry I never saw this post from you. I did pretty good weight wise but have had horrible acid reflux that the mgb was supposed to fix but for me it didn't. So here I am about to have a revision to full bypass because I can't take the reflux any longer.
