  1. SLEEVE TO BYPASS REVISION. I apologize in advance if this is not where I post this at. I have been sleeved for 21 days now....and now I may have to have the bypass within 2 weeks. I never had actual GERD before but have had GERD ever since the surgery. I don't have any vomiting at night like others have mentioned...but it restricts me from now getting any food but cottage cheese in and only about 20 ounces of water. I'm not talking like the tiny acid I used to get with eating a whole pizza and then laying down ...I'm talking like punch you in the stomach pain & sizzling noises all day long in my throat. I boil acid all day long. It's not excruciating...Its just not good on a sleeve and I'm scared It will eat through my staples or hurt my small pouch even more. I was 270 day of surgery and weighed this morning at 238. I'm losing weight like a champ but it's because my intake is super low. I saw my surgeon on Friday and he raised my Nexium but said that if in 2 weeks I was still having the Gerd that he was going to do a sleeve to bypass revision. Has anyone had a sleeve to bypass revision? If so I would love to hear about your experience. Good or bad. I've googled many posts but can't get straight forward answers. How was the pain? Did you have complications? And how is your quality of life now? Tia
  2. Hello All, I am super excited and nervous at the same time.. I was just approved for revision surgery for March 31.. I just wanted to know what are so of the recommended essentials to pack for my 2 night stay other than the obvious.. Thank you in advance!!
  3. I work in an office full of women and I am very torn as to whether I want to tell anyone about my revision. No one knows I have the band to begin with, so I would have to go through that whole story too. I am going to Mexico for my surgery and just don't want to hear it from everyone. My boss will know, but I don't know what to do about everyone else. I don't want people to find out later and then feel like the big liar of the office. What did everyone say at work? How did you explain your weight loss? Please help!

    Surgery scheduled with second thoughts

I know a lot of DSers don't want SADI-S / Loop DS / SIPS people in their group because SADI is not the DS. It's different in every way. I just had a revision from RNY to SIPS 3/16/15
  5. Was originally scheduled a week and a half ago but chickened out - doing revision Thursday and feel at it ease after talking to someone who has had the surgery. I have no major medical issues and I am probably very low risk but surgery is always scary
  6. I'm losing slowly but I expected it - because mine was a revision surgery, I'm older and I carry my weight in my lower body. I also hVent exercised as much as I would like. I used to go to the track all the time to walk, I now have a bone spur in my heel. Have an appt scheduled with a podiatrist but they couldn't fit me in until mid- April.
  7. I've read on previous posts that for just the removal recovery was pretty quick. I had a revision in 1 surgery. My recovery was VERY quick. I felt fine by day 2 but took 2 weeks off from work because the surgeon recommended it. I really could have gone back after a week. My boss was prepared to have me work 1/2 days if needed when I returned but I was fine

To Band or Not to Band...

I have been posting on the sleeve forum as I currently have the band (2008) and hate it and am considering revision. Let me say on here what I said on there. ALL WLS IS A CRAP SHOOT. You aren't going to know how you do with it (even if you comply) until you have it. You will find those who hate their WLS and have complications. You will also find those who love their WLS and have been very successful. My band never did one thing it was promoted as doing. It never allowed me to feel satisfied. It was like that big empty stomach below was saying "Hey, I'm still hungry - feed me" but I was physically unable to eat more due to pressure/pain if I did. So, for me the band was the worst of both worlds (didn't help me to lose weight, didn't provide satiety and was always hungry). Plus I had a major stuck episode (2009) that took me to the ER. I am sure getting shot couldn't be more painful. I couldn't even talk. If this happens to you - you will definitely question your choice. I had all the fill removed then. Had I known this was how the band would be for me do you think I would have gotten it? But we don't know until after it's done. So, all WLS is a risk (I'm not talking surgical risk) as to whether it will be successful for you. I can so identify with those who say the same thing I have said. But there are also many who just love their band and have been very successful. It's a tough choice but I would never encourage anyone to have the band based on my results. Plus there are some surgeons who don't do the band anymore and Allergan has gone out of the band business. You have to ask yourself why this is. Plus research has shown that the band is the least effective WLS for long term weight loss (keeping it off) and about 50% eventually have theirs removed. Please don't kill the messenger!

@@sleeveee Hi, I'm sorry you had some trouble with the procedure. I know when Ken and I changed Dr.'s the new Dr. really advised Ken and I that he felt we would have been better sleeve patients then band because of Ken's diabetes and my hormonal issues the malabsorbtive bit with the band would have worked faster for us. We are not in a big race to get the to the finish line so we just work it as it is and when we get there we get there. It's been slow and steady but we have not had any regain and that's a BIG plus in my book all other medical issues aside. He did tell us though that if we needed to revise for some reason in the future it would mean removing the band and healing internally few a few months before sleeve surgery could be performed so your experience especially if the liver and stomach have that kind of trauma is not out of the ordinary. Hang in there...your gonna get where you want to be!! How are you doing today?

    Home

Had my gall bladder removed and afferent limb removed and bowel resection from my rny in 09. Home now, H &H came up so no transfusion needed. Lost 6 pounds on 5 day clear liquid diet. Still lots of pain and swelling. What diet phase is next? I see the dr on Thursday. If they are still issues then. He will then consider doing a revision of my rny. Hope everyone is well!!

Amazed at the damage the lap did...

Yes, Gail10, it's daunting. If I get any answers that may help you, I'll post them here. Meanwhile, don't let them give you too much of a fill. Throwing up is not good for your gastro-intestinal tract, aside from being very uncomfortable. Just follow the food and drink instructions to the word. That is all in your best interest and you'll be doing all you can do that is within your control. We cannot control the adhesions or scar tissue, or inflammation that the band may cause in some people. Just so you know, a woman who had her band placed on the same day and by the same surgeon as I did in 2011 got her band revised to the sleeve last July, with no problems whatsoever and in a single surgery. Each of our bodies are different.
  12. I am doing a 2 step revision. How long and how painful is the removal? Will presenting at a conference one week later be possible? Thanks!

    Dangerous request?

Lol I'm just messing with you hello my name is Emma I got banded years ago and it never worked for me I'm not in the process of getting a revision to gastric bypass I have to lose 40 pounds and I'm at 16 down and I feel like I have stalled and it's so depressing how are you doing in your journey

    Regret stage!

I had revision surgery on March 16 as well, i feel you're pain. I keep seeing everything happy at the dinner table while I am left to the side hungry with a bowl of cream of wheat.
  15. Got my date, 6/8/15!!! I'm a teacher so summer works best. I am 28 years young but have had bad diabetes since I was 18. The band worked at first, lost 80lbs from my highest weight...but I hate it now. Gained almost all weight back and didn't help my diabetes like I was promised. Was looking at the sleeve revision but my Dr recommended RNY instead...I am hoping RNY helps. Anyone else diabetic with some encouraging words?

    Nervous

Good luck! Hopefully your approval will go smoothly and you will have a date soon. I too chose the BP even though initially I chose the sleeve. I had the band for 6 years and only lost 30 pounds at my best. When I decided to have a revision I started to research and the BP has the best results documented. I didn't want to chance the need for another revision so I chose BP. Keep preparing yourself and all will be good!
  17. I would start the 6 months now!! Just get it on record to get the date moving. The upside of having a new insurance is that a lot of them will only cover 1 Bariatric surgery in a lifetime. I just recently had the band to sleeve revision and have a different insurance now than when I had the band - I still had to go through their 3 month requirement - psyc & nutritionist all over again. Good luck to you

    Confused

Hi, I'm 6dpo from having a revision from RNY to SIPS. My doctor is also Enochs and i had all of my surgeries at Rex Hospital. I'm so happy to find other SIPSers.
  19. Tomorrow is the day...band to bypass revision for me. I'm very emotional today but so excited! I'd like to keep posting here as i think it keeps one focused and grounded so I'll let you know how things are going in a few days when I get home.
  20. I had the sleeve to RNY revision because after my sleeve my reflux got really bad. Having to have surgery twice was no fun. I would really consider having RNY if you already have reflux.
  21. September 3, 2015 is my final surgery! I am so excited. In 2008 I was banded lost all my weight had a breast lift, gummy bear implants, thigh lift and tummy tuck.. In May 2014 I was revised from band to bypass because my band had eroded. So my final surgery will be my face lift and full face laser resurfacing. I'm thrilled. I have used the same surgeon for all my plastics and I love him!!! Dr passaratti in Darien, ct. The only surgery that didn't give me awesome results was my thigh lift but I don't want the scar down my leg for the median thigh lift. Im happy with them just not thrilled lol. I have been a self pay for all my surgeries so the new me has cost $87,500 but I am worth every damn penny! I have never been happier!
  22. I also had difficulty with my band, it slipped, and I am at manager at a hospital. My band was covered under one insurance while my revision to gastric bypass was covered under another insurance carrier. My physician did not have any difficulty with my carrier to prove it was medically necessary to complete the surgery. I began the process last August and had gastric bypass November 10. My physician required I attend three informational meetings that are held once monthly before he would complete the surgery—this is the only reason for the delay. I also did not have reflux until the band slipped but medication did not help me. What my surgeon found while I was in surgery was a tremendous amount of adhesions had formed where the band was originally placed. The “reflux pain” I was describing was actually caused by the adhesions. I was in surgery for an hour and half longer than expected. He believes my issues were caused by the adhesions in addition to the band slipping. Unlike my band my recovery was slower than I expected due in part to the extensive surgery they needed to complete and the length of time I was under anesthesia. I was out of work for three weeks and returned part time for almost two weeks. Due to my commute (1hr 15 min each way) the first week back to work I was only able to manage to stay onsite until noon, but, this was due to exhaustion more than anything. The second week I had more strength and by the end of the week I was able to work a full 8 hour day. About mid to late January I started to feel more like myself and did not require a nap on the weekend every week. The last 6-8 months with my band my weight did not change. Since my surgery I have lost an additional 32 pounds. Good Luck!
  23. I'm seriously researching the MGB right now, Iv read great things and even talked to a few others who revised from sleeve and have done very well.

Fleur de Lis TT 20th of March

I honestly don't know what the right answer is, but I had a traditional abdominoplasty and lower body lift 1/9/15. I've been struggling since then with a seroma, and it has stretched out my skin, so I have a smaller pannus again, which will require a revision in the future. I think our skin has stretched out so much due to obesity, that it stretches back out again really easily.
  25. I went in asking to have the sleeve but was experience bad bout of acid reflux that day and she said she really did not recommend the sleeve because it can make the acid reflux worse. It took me a while to come around to the idea of bypass, but I am finally there. I really don't want to have a revision later either and plus I'm tired of the acid reflux and given bypass can essentially cure that, then I am ready to go with bypass. (PS - those I have known that had the revision was due to either reflux and/or weight gain.)
