One hardboiled egg - usually I fry it (in Pam) or have yogurt. On Sunday I had two pieces of center cut bacon - it was yummy! -
Did you cheat on Pre-Op diet?!!
Doodle69 replied to milton5a's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I feel very fortunate after reading some of your experiences... I'm on day 3 of my pre-op diet... but mine is only a low-fat, low-carb and high-protein diet... basically, no sugar, except what comes naturally in fruit and veggies... lots of liquids (80-100oz. daily), Protein shakes, yogurt or skim milk three times a day... we're even allowed a tiny amount of meat for dinner, and a tiny amount of complex carbs, too... potatoes, Beans or hummus... anyway, so far, I've lost 3 lbs., and I haven't been too hungry or too tempted... my biggest hurdle is sugar, since I hate the taste of artificial sweeteners in my beverages... but, I'm managing! I'm filled but unsatisfied....HELP!
LSF replied to scardycat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My nutritionis said that until I get good restriction (I haven't been filled yet) to eat 3 small meals and 3 -4 small snacks a day. Just start having some healthy snacks between meals - yogurt, nuts, cheese, fruit etc... She said that eventually I won't be hungry enough to eat between meals but for now - it's OK. -

Just banded...liquid ideas
Catherine55 replied to LessJess's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love cottage cheese, so when I was on liquids, I'd blend some up with a bit of skim milk to think it out. One treat I liked on liquids was also to blend up a banana with some skim milk to make a "sauce" to put over the cottage cheese. After the Clear Liquids diet, that was wonderful! Also, I made and bought a bunch of different soups -- there are two really yummy recipes & photos on my blog if you're interested. I bought turkey chili as well and blended it with some chicken broth & fat free yogurt to thin it out. I still have that sometimes -- it's yummy! I'm still loving the ff/sf Jello chocolate pudding. That's become a staple in my house, even though I generally try to stay away from artificial sweetenters. I just enjoy having a treat on hand that doesn't mess up my diet! Congrats on your surgery! Glad to hear you are doing well. Catherine -

Need to Poop - constipation
AAA022414 replied to ukcatsfan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i went through the same thing but probably at about 5 months out...i didn't poo for 10 days!! i was soooo uncomfortable. I would be so hungry but nothing was coming out so nothing could go in. My mom told me to take a laxative which totally just freaked me out! but after 10 days i went and got some, along with prune juice and Fiber tablet (i'm not sure what kind) the combination of just buying it scared the poo right out of me! thank goodness! make sure you're eating enough fiber! i wasn't eating any! I eat a yoplait + yogurt every single day...if i run out and haven't bought any more, i can definetly fee the difference! so my advice, make sure you're paying attention to your fiber intake along with your Protein intake. -
I think I have had it pretty easy...i am not burping at all? Yes...stomach is still tender, but to be expected I suppose. How is eating for you guys (or soup intake..or yogurt)?

You can eat bread and it doesn't get stuck? My provider says NO..all caps.lol But then again, I can eat a tortilla in place of bread and that's generally what I do. Awesome on your weight loss..I can HOPE that really start losing.. Today so far, I have had a piece of string cheese and an 80 cal yogurt. and of course my water..wheeee...

Soooo I knew up front that I would have some nay Sayers when it came to my surgery. I expect the "easy way out" comments. But what I didn't expect was the hostility that I get from my son's father. Granted, we are no longer a couple....but we work in the same facility and see each other EVERY DAY. We have recently ( within the last two years) learned to be friends after being apart for 6yrs. We have spoken about me having the surgery and he said he would support me in any way I needed. He said he was " all for you being healthy for our son" . Now I've noticed that if I ask him to pick me up a bottle of water from the store.....he brings back Pepsi (I've had no soda since Sept). If i asked for a piece of fruit or yogurt.....he brings me a pack of Ring Dings. At first I thought he was just being absent minded, but Friday we had this big blow out argument over something that had NOTHING to do with me or anything important....by the end of the argument he showed me exactly how he feels by calling me everything but the child of God....first choice being "fat b#%^h" come to find out (from someone else) he doesn't even want me to have the surgery because he is only attracted to BIG GIRLS! I honestly don't care what he is attracted to because unless he'll freezes over we will NEVER be a couple again. But if I am doing this for health reasons, how could someone be so selfish and try to sabotage what I'm doing because of what they like? Arrrrrgh???? I just had to vent...........

Pre-Op Liquid Diet
BigGirlPanties replied to want2besleeved87's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
what 3 "meals" are you speaking of? Protein shakes? You don't have meals, the shakes are your meal; unless your dr. is doing it differently. The Snacks are things like no sugar Jello, low carb (carbmaster) yogurt...things of that nature... it helps you get thru the day... is that what you are referring to? -
I think a lot if the artificial sweeteners make some of us, like me for sure...sick and splenda definitely leaved a bad taste in my mouth I can't get rid of I use natural stevia , experimented to find one I like lol and that helped if I really wanted something sweetened. I use g6 sports vanilla Protein powder sweetened with stevia. It's super clean, dissolved easily and, to me, tastes great. I put it in skim milk and sometimes add some fage Greek yogurt for more protein. The powder has 25grams if protein but it's a bit more expensive then most protein powders however if you have a GNC near, they give you a free membership and significant discount. Getting out . most artificial sweeteners brought my mouth, gut and stomach back to peace and I like my food...

Hi! I'll try to help ~ Pill sizes: I don't take anything aside from the occasional swig of liquid tylenol, but my program coordinator has said as long as it's small enough to go through the pouch, there shouldn't be a problem. Seeing as that's the size of a dime, I think zoloft should be fine ~ Soda: I've tried soda twice now since surgery a year ago, and I had no problem with it. I was told horror stories about it exploding in the pouch similar to a baking soda-volcano-science-project, but no problems for me. I just don't miss soda, so I don't tend to drink it. But a swallow every now and then shouldn't be too much of a problem. ~ Surgeon's experience: Heck, I have no idea. When I had my band put in my surgeon had only completed around 25 surgeries. Sorry, I'm no help here ~ This is a mystery to me, too. I think I remember hearing that sugar can irritate the pouch, or some other body part. I think it's all a ruse to get us to go cold-turkey against our sugar/carb/whatever addictions ~ Drinkable yogurt: hmmm. Again, I'm no help. Do you mean to drink it after surgery during the liquids phase? I don't really have yogurt that much, so I'm not sure ~ Insurance: Again, I've got nothing to help. I have Tricare, and with the first letter sent they basically ushered me into the surgery. I didn't have to do anything.. but I think my beginning BMI was 42. Well, looks like my "help" really wasn't helpful at all. Sorry!

What great answers, thank you! The yogurt is just flavored. I've fantasized about diluting it with vanilla almond milk. I really appreciate the great questions to ask. I appreciate the help in helping my expectations be as realistic as possible. Thanks again!! -

Surgery Oct 26th and need some help
lsereno replied to aliescha's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi, I had my surgery on May 17 at Kaiser Fremont. I am 54 yrs old, weighed 222 and I am 5'6". The Dr. repaired a small, undiagnosed hiatal hernia while he was in there. My outside stitches were the dissolving type and by the time my steristrips fell off, they were long gone. I found the pain medication at the hospital and at home (generic liquid lortab) effective as long as I didn't put pressure on my tummy. It hurt when I sat up or twisted, but not as long as I laid still, sat still, or even while walking. I was able to sip and walk as soon as I was allowed. I didn't pick stuff up off the floor for several days and I slept propped with pillows to mimic a hospital bed with my knees and upper back raised for about a week. I had discomfort- not pain. My stomach rumbled like a mac truck was driving through it. I felt tired, weak, and like I had been slugged in the stomach. I had diarrhea for about the first two weeks. I discovered I was lactose-intolerant following surgery (fairly common, but it goes away for most people after a few months), and when I gave up all milk products except yogurt, the diarrhea slacked off to 2-3 times per day, slowly returning to normal for me (once a day). I think 20 days will probably be enough time off, but you will be pooped after getting off work, so if you have home responsibilities, do whatever you can to make them easier on yourself. Everyone heals differently, so you are likely to hear a wide range of pain levels, tiredness levels, and complications after surgery. If you don't get enough responses to see a variety of information, poke around on the boards for older posts about this topic. Many people check in often in the days following surgery, so you can read their thoughts about the process as they were going through it. Best wishes on your upcoming surgery! Lynda -
Pre- op diet: shakes are so horrible
leebick replied to jersey0601's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I found that I like the shakes made from powders better than the ready-made, preserved shakes. I make my shakes with unsweetened almond milk, or unsweetened vanilla almond milk. I really like the Syntrax Nectars. I also make a yogurt shake, with one of the almond milks and a container of Dannon lite and fit greek yogurt, but I add enough unflavored Syntrax protein to equal the amount of protein that I'd get from a regular shake. I suppose you could make these with skim milk instead, but I cannot stand the taste of skim milk and don't like to use it in anything! -
Dr Ponce - complications
kerrbeari replied to kerrbeari's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The infection is gone (knock on wood) puss long gone thank god. incision still healing & nasty looking compared to the others which look nice. On full liquids but that's about 2 or 3 tablespoons of yogurt or soup a day. The Percocet wasn't able to block the pain from that even (I refuse to take more than 1 at a time). Finally starting to be able to handle coffee or Metamucil without severe cramps. I hope I can get back to work very soon but can't drive on the Percocet. -

crysclev replied to crysclev's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I definitely will ask! I have my 2 week post op appt. tomorrow so I will be drilling them on whether or not I can add items to my current menu. Right now it consists of drinkable yogurts or blended Soups with Clear Liquids. I will survive either way but I would love to have something else! -
Pre- op diet: shakes are so horrible
TheRealMeIsHere! replied to jersey0601's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you tried EAS AdvantEdge RTD? They are not as thick as some others. strawberry reminds me of strawberry Quik chocolate Fudge is like YooHoo Cafe Caramel tastes like iced coffee. Just keep trying different shakes till you find what you like, everyone's tastes are different. What about Dannon Light & Fit Greek yogurt? Yogurt counted as a liquid on my program, or even Protein puddings. -
lol!! no i didnt add yogurt to the beans! i just squished the Beans down to a liquid. and you know what guys? i am eating some serious HUMBLE PIE! before i was banded, i came in this forum and would be appalled by people that cheated or ate something they shouldnt on the post op diet for the first 2 weeks. i had gotten myself so prepared for this in every other way but emotionally. goes to show ya that you can never judge other people, because unless ur in their shoes... you dont have any idea what u would do so heres to second chances, and pulling my head out of my ass! thanks to all of you so much for reminding me where my focus needs to be...

@@eal098, hi there! I believe you would be very thin given your height. I am wondering how many grams of Protein you are getting in now? Getting 85 should not be hard. I use Premier Protein ready made shakes which have 30grams of protein and 1 gram of sugar each. I drink one right when I get up in the am. I then eat yogurt with high protein granola for Breakfast a couple hours later. I then make sure I have protein & good carbs (vegetables or a little fruit) for lunch and dinner. If I snack I choose protein Snacks such as: cheese, nuts, beef jerkey or lunch meat. If I find myself short on protein ( I use fitness pal to track) I will then grab a second protein shake later in the evening. I would definately track your food if you are not already doing that. Good luck gaining a bit of weight! (That sounds very strange saying too!)

Anyone in education getting sleeved?
almost_sleeved123 replied to almost_sleeved123's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't told anyone at work yet. I'm a little nervous because this is only my 2nd year at this school so I don't really have a work BFF yet. I have a mini fridge in my office too and I was thinking of keeping some pre made shakes, fruit juices and yogurt if I can have it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Why not ask your doctor? It's better to follow their instructions rather than an unknown person on the web. Ask him if you can use a pill splitter to make them smaller and take those with water rather than crushing them. The reasoning for it is likely due to 2 things - (a) not wanting you to take too large of a drink of water and (b) fear of the pill getting stuck depending on its size. I have no idea where you're at post-op, but one thing I tried was to put a pill in something like my greek yogurt.

I bought the Bariatric Fusion online. Google it. Day2 all i could drink was protein meal replacements....now i just have 1 a day for breakfast...when i eat a lowfat yogurt I mix 1 scoop of beneprotein into it. Its made by carnation and can be purchased at certain drug stores. Its odorless and tasteless. I mix into almost everything I can to get the protein value up. You can google it also...it's what they use for people who r on feeding tubes but u can add it to food....
