    Traveling

Hi. I have my surgery scheduled for next week. I was wondering how long after surgery do you think it would be ok to take a long road trip?
  2. Hi Everybody, I'm 5 weeks out from surgery and walking for exercise. Today I did 5 miles on a flat surface at a 17 min/mile rate. The balls of my feet are extremely sore. This has happened in the last couple weeks several additional times. My shoes are either Ryka or ASICS and are in good shape. I'm no stranger to walking, I've just upped the intensity and distance since coming on board with WLS. Am I walking wrong? Maybe my gait is still at my higher weight? I don't have flat feet or plantar fasciitis. My feet are normal and average. My heels are fine. What could this be? Anybody have this happen to them too? Thanks for your input.
  3. I just wanted to share my progress. I had RNY on May 19th, so not quite 3 months. I have lost 40 lbs thus far. It seems as if the weight loss has been slower than expected, but I have noticed a difference in how my clothes are fitting. I assumed my clothes would start looking better bc of the weight loss, but now have too much material in the waist area, making me look wider... I won't complain about this it gives me an excuse to go shopping. Unfortunately, my hair is changing for the worse. The texture is more straw-like, and it's noticeably falling out. At this point, I am taking Biotin, and looking into alternatives to cover this up while it re grows. Overall, I am very blessed to be able to tolerate almost every food I have tried post op. I still struggle with getting in all my proteins/fluids, but that will come I just wanted to ask-- what are some examples of Vitamin regimens y'all do? I really feel like it must be a mental thing but I Cannot stand taking pills. I tried chewable gummies Vitamins and those were getting to me disgusting to me too..Id love some examples of how people space their meds/vitamins. Here is a pic of my day of surgery, and of my current status. Thanks so much

    Pain in the belly

I have pain also. On my left side. It's near the largest cut. I was told it was abdominal spasms but this has been killing me for over a week now. Had surgery December 1st. I can't do anything without horrible pain. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Tired

For me variety is the key. I have a couple of core exercises, push-ups and knee bends, two sets of each, 2-3 times a week. Otherwise, I walk and run with kettle bells, bodyblade, walk through theme parks (I live in Florida), swim, bicycle with granddaughters, and anything else that seems fun. Moving is more fun the more the excess weight drops off. When you work off that last 40 you may be surprised about the difference it makes in the rest of your life. I have always dreamed about taking my old, experienced mind and put it in that body that I had when I was young. This is pretty close to it. P.S. My wife made a rare valid point, (kidding) lack of proper hydration can take the energy and motivation out of a person. Sometimes when you think you have it covered, you don't.

    Always irritable

Hello! I was wondering if I could find out from others whether or not you found yourself just irritated with everything. Rude people, crazy drivers, family members and even myself are making me crazy! I used to be a patient person, but I will react pretty angrily to things now, and I don't mean to. I don't like when I'm this way. I'm 4 weeks post op and still having some problems with swallowing liquids and pureed stuff. I guess I'm feeling like its never going to get better right now. Being on a liquid diet for going on 3 months, its kinda depressing. I'm just getting frustrated. Am I going crazy or is this normal and should I just go with the flow? I try not to get angry about little things but its like I have no control anymore.
  7. Hi All, I am about 7 weeks post RNY. For the last week and a half I’ve been struggling with extreme nausea and on and off vomiting. I can’t get many fluids down. I was averaging about 40oz before the last week. I was sent into the infusion center to get two liters of fluids and they are encouraging me to go again. I’m obviously no where near my protein intake either. My medical team has given me Zofran, phenergan, and the scopolamine patch. The phenergan puts the nausea at bay, but I still can’t get much down. I also went back to clear liquids the last couple of days. I’m so weak with not being able to get fluids/protein. I’m just wondering if anyone else has struggled with this, and how you got through it? My medical team says that I “just need to get over the hump and I’ll feel better soon.” I hope that it happens soon because I’m really struggling!
  8. So at my last fill appointment my doctor opted to not give me a fill. He said my weight loss was going very well, and I may be in the green zone without any fills. The nurse however, told me I just may be swollen a little more than normal and to let her know if I started getting hungry. Well I don't know if its my head playing games or what, but I started Friday becoming very hungry, but at odd times. Also, I am still hungry after my 5oz of food and yes I am going my Protein first and minimizing carbs and whatnot. I have been able to subdue this with eating a pickle, a cup vegetables, or even a cup of air popped popcorn without anything on it. Weight wise I am still going down but at a slower rate than in the beginning. The other side of this is at 400 lbs I hurt my back pretty bad. I had been in pain everyday day of my life until just recently. When I hit 323 I felt like I was able to get up and down easier and since then I have been extremely active. I went from sitting and doing next to nothing everyday to being active 406 hours a day. Not so much exercising, but going outdoors and doing things I had not done in a long time like, gardening, mowing, and house projects. (has not mowed my lawn in over a year) I do work out with strength training 2 days a week, go see a personal trainer once a week, and do cardio every day now. My schedule also impacts my diet to as I work 330 to midnight at home sitting for 8 hours. I had got int he habit of eating after work along with my three meals a day before surgery and it is a fight every night lately. My wife thinks I should listen to my body and eat if I need to since I am burning so many calories. My sugar has been lower than it has ever been and the doctor took me off all my diabetes meds 2 weeks ago. I find myself dropping out in the morning and sometimes late at night. Has anyone else had these issues? How did you cope with them? Do I need a fill or is this just head games? Thank you for your responses!
  9. Sleeved 9 weeks ago. No runny nose here. Odd.

    Becoming a new Bander

Sorry I am on my 2nd week it took me awhile to find this to answer anyone back lol First week wasn't so bad just clear liquids ... 2nd week I am eating mushy foods and feel fat and gross and not sure if I feel full. Hope your doing good Bobbeelee Lisa

Advice please? Confused and need help

You've done far better on the band than I ever did -- I lost just 40 lbs and gained it back over 6 years. It just didn't work for me to curb hunger, at all, and I had horrible reflux. I'm only 1 week out from the conversion to sleeve, but I feel the sleeve has a more natural feeling when I drink (havent' eaten yet). I don't have to force it down my esophagus like I did with the band. But the big thing is I'm not hungry like I was with the band. Really barely hungry at all on 600 cals/day! Maybe you'll find it easier to lose the rest of your weight. Of course it's your decision, but I think you'll do great with the sleeve.
  12. I'm doing well. My left side is very very sore. Doc said it's normal, that's where the stomach came out. I'm struggling to get my fluids in but I'm 3 days PO and just trying my best!!
  13. I am almost 2 weeks post OP. I have been following the liquid diet but I haven had many carbs. I have been running a fever of 99 to 102 and have to take tylenol every 4 hrs. I am exhausted and feel awful. My surgeon told me to increase my fluids and that would help with the fever. I ended up in the ER a few days ago and was told nothing was wrong with the surgery but i do have a urinary tract infection. Should i be adding more carbs for energy

    Venting......

I need to be a little lighter on myself. But as usual I am beating myself up for what's wrong with my life. So, no referral faxing yet....and even though is shouldve happened last week. Maybe this week it will happen. So, Ive been thinking about how being overweight has held me back in so many ways.... No husband at 35 and I cant help but think now that because I never felt worthy..(being fat) that I never opened myself up to expecting or expecting someone to fall for me. I'm tired of sharing my bed with someone who doesnt desire more from me, and hold me up to sociey's standards of beauty and not being fat. Tired of being judges downward because I ate and what the eating has caused. Feeling less than because society says that I am. I held myself back socially because I didnt want to be compared to women of a lesser size. People think that I am really outgoing but that is all a front. I have a great smile and that is what I have hid behind all of my dating or lack of dating life. I have found myself going after men who were either not available or not "ready" to commit even a courtship with me. I hate myself for dragging out those relatonships that were doomed from the start. Being told all of your life that you have a beautiful face and being sufficed by that alone. It is getting old hearing that. And because I diabetic and high BP, I feel that I have unintentionally sabotaged myself, as I turned to food and overeating every time. As I lay alone in my bed at night, I wonder what if anything I would do differently if I had a real chance at life, I would not hold myself back and try new things. Poeple who have lost the weight that held them back , not only look differently but tell tales of a new lease on a bad life.... I pray that I get this surgery because I feel that its my turn...before I get too old for babies, love and a healthy life.:glare: I want so much to be in love with myself, and yet, I cant because I know that I havent given myself a real chance at happiness. Sorry, If I am depressing anyone reading this...just venting... So tired are my tears...

    Band removal

I drove about a week after surgery because I had to take my girls to school. My doctor said as long as I wasn't on the prescription pain meds, I could drive when I felt ready. I started walking about two weeks after surgery and then started really "working" out at the gym at six weeks. I still got tired easily, so I had to take it slow at the gym when I first went back. I would plan to take it easy at least the first week when you will need lots of rest.

    I'm doin' it!

I registered for the Race for the Cure 5k... very excited but now also nervous. I have been loosely doing the Couch to 5k program for a month, but am still not running 1 mile without stopping to walk. Now I looked at the real 5k training schedule and it's 5 days a week! 3 miles, on Tues, Thurs, Fri, 2 miles on Wed and 4 miles on Sun.... OMG! What did I get myself into????
  17. I too am in the beginning steps. I am not sure how long this will take. Getting ready to make my Preop appt. though. I am excited and pretty nervous. I have read many stories about the initial process but it seems to take 3 to 6 months or so for the pre surgery steps. Some longer though.
  18. Im about a week out of surgery... do i start talking all those Vitamins now? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App

    Is your port area sore?

I am almost 7 weeks post op and remember thinking these same questions!!!! Just to put your mind at ease. I was a driver of a roll over accident 4 weeks post op and my port and band are fine!!! I was OK too and very lucky to have survived without injury!!! My NP and MD said the reason why we are so sore post op and sometime 2 months post op around the port area is because the port is sewn into the muscle (some with a mesh, some without), when we move and bend. our muscles move one way and the port does or doesn't depending on the movement, which causes pain. Eventually scar tissue builds up and the pain goes away. We do have to make sure infection doesn't occur just watch out for increase redness or swelling around the port incision!
  20. I'm almost 8 months out and still have at least one Protein drink a day. My surgeon doesn't think I should still need them, but I told him I wouldn't get in a decent amount of protein otherwise. My sleeve is undergoing what seems to be another size adjustment in the last couple of weeks and I'm eating a little more than I could at 6 months. Even by the 6 month mark, there was NO WAY I could eat enough food to get in 60 gm of protein. Sometimes, I don't even get in 60 with a Protein Drink included. This is mostly due to a small capacity in my sleeve, but also due to the fact that I am determined to eat like a normal person sometimes. I want a few bites of a potato with my steak, a few bites of crackers with my tuna, and a few bites of bread with my burger. (When it comes to bread, it's literally like 2 bites.) But, at least I feel like a normal person when I eat. In exchange for that normalcy, I drink a protein drink - usually for breakfast since my sleeve doesn't tolerate food well in the morning. I'm slowly reaching the point where I can see that I will be able to get enough protein through natural food sources, but I intend to keep some type of drink at the ready at all times for when I have a low protein-eating day. I talked to an insurance case manager recently who was 4 years out from the sleeve. She said she still uses Protein drinks occasionally for when she doesn't get enough protein on a particular day. Athletes and bodybuilders use protein supplements all the time - who's to say we can't use them as long as we want to?

    5th day post-op

Ok, today was a bit harder for me. I've been on pain pills since the surgery and I decided to try and go without them today. WOW! All my incisions are fine except the one for my port which is still swollen and really painful. I hope nothing is wrong with it because I went to Mexico for my procedure so it's not like I can just make a follow up appointment if it doesn't get better. Also, today is the first time I've had hunger pains and they were super intense. I rushed home and had a protein shake which helped but it doesn't seem to tide me over for very long. Maybe I should be drinking more water, which is something I will try doing tomorrow. I don't know how everything else is going since I've decided to weigh myself only once a week and I did it yesterday, so I guess every Tuesday will be my big "weigh in" day. Let's hope I can make it that long without doing it since I am super anxious to know if this is going to be worth it. Guess we will find out, huh?:smile2:
  22. At 12 weeks I still have one shake three or four times a week. I just don't like eating breakfast, and it helps me get in my fluids. I would say do it until you can eat enough other foods to get in 60-80 grams of protein. Everyone heals differently, and our sleeves are different sizes. I can eat way more than many at 12 weeks. I was getting 40-60 grams of protein from food at 6 weeks. I don't like when docs/nuts/good intentioned friends try to make me fit in their boxes. I listen and then do what is right for me.
  23. Sorry about this but my knowledge of Protein shakes is pretty limited as neither my doctor or nut suggested Protein Shakes for my liquid diet- i was just suggested slim fast and Soups. Most of my research has been from here and I'm now purchasing the optimum nutrition 100% whey in chocolate. I am 6 weeks out and wondering if people, past the liquid stage, still continue with their shakes? My main motivation for doing this now is finding my food alone is giving me little protein, even with eating mainly ham, tuna, cheese etc. it's maximum 30gprotien as I'm eating tiny morsels of food. I'm hoping to take 1-2 of these servings per day. Does that sound about right?

Fitbit Aria Scale & Body Fat

I had a DEXA scan 3 days ago. It only measured my bone density? I did just read about it, and my body fat info should be part of the report. I guess my dr was only interested in bone density. I'll find out if they'll tell me my BF %. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  25. Woo Hoo!! Yes, it is hard work, but you will see the results and know you made the best decision for you. I am out 4 weeks with my revision and down 12 pounds (after a 6 month stall with the band, LOL) Just got back to the gym and doing my RIPPED classes with modifications.
