Did you sweat less after surgery?

Oh man, I cannot WAIT for this! Still pre-op, but this is my most anticipated NSV (besides getting healthy, of course). I freeze my kids out in the car- the air conditioner is on full blast at all times. (they each have blankets beside them in case they get too cold). Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  4. some time ago I had posted an NSV where a ring my husband gave me on our 10th anniversary finally fit again. Now I can wear it on the right hand. it is a thick ring (a picture in my gallery I think). 6 months ago I couldn't wear it at all. I am so pleased.

I'm glad for you. Just for giggles after reading your post, I put on my old wedding band, and it fell off without a push. Which was cool for two reasons. ;-)

How Has Your Food Budget Changed?

I live alone and I'm spending wayyyyyyyyy less money than I used to. Also, the food delivery app I used to use like 5x/week sends me emails telling me they miss me as a customer - NSV!

    Late June Sleeve Buddies?

I had 2 NSVs yesterday and I forgot to come and brag....bear with me 1: I went to a beer fest yesterday with 2 very close friends, both know I've had the surgery and are very supportive. I was the DD, so no beer but it was a fun day regardless! Before I left home to go pick them up, my eye caught on a shirt that's been hanging in my closet for over a year. Nothing fabulous, but it buttons up the front and isn't stretchy (not at all what I've been wearing for over a year); I haven't ever been able to wear it because I couldn't get my fat arms into the sleeves AT ALL. Not 'it was tight', I mean stopped at the elbow and work to get back off. Anyway, I pulled it out and decided to try it, although I was sure it still wouldn't fit. Well, guess what? It not only FIT, but my arms slid ALL the way into those sleeves, with room to spare! I can't tell you how pumped I was! 2: At the beer fest, there was a life-sized cutout of Michael Phelps and my friend had me pose next to it for a silly photo. She messaged the photo to me and for the first time in a LONG time, I didn't cringe inside when I saw a picture of myself. It felt good to not hate what I look like. That sounds so pathetic, but I've just felt so fat and unattractive for so long that it was like a rebirth to see the slightly thinner me and not be repulsed by the image. All in all, it was a good day <3

My mind is completely sabotaging me!

My apology, as I seem not to have communicated well. Rather than asking for answers, I was hoping the question marks would point at things you might find useful to consider. My intention now is the same. "...having the discipline" -- Some new habits take effort to develop. It often helps to schedule the activity at the same time every day. "10:00 a.m Everyone is out, the house is quiet, time for meditation." When I need to play games with myself to go forward with something, I'll concoct whatever works. That's how I got from initial info seminar to the OR for bariatric surgery, every step of the way. It is possible to unburden ourselves of bad weight, such as martinet mothers or other toxic people, whether we choose to associate with them again or not. A saddle doesn't have to forever. Again, not easy, but it can be done. I'm not sure, but I suspect that reordering priorities may have a role. Taking a hard, close, disinterested look at the offending party may also help cut him/her down to size. I'm glad the journal suggestion struck a chord. Your idea for a running list of NSVs sounds great. A running list of things that give you pleasure, whether great, slight or between, can also be a boost. I'm also a fan of thinking about or doing things that are just a little less about me and a little more about others when depression (I have a history) is getting the better of me.

Answers to some questions: Meds: my meds are often adjusted for best optimization but cannot take care of everything. Therapy: I don't have an eating disorder therapist, but he is the most gifted therapist I've ever met and knows a great deal about trauma and addiction and body work as well. However, the shortcoming of our therapy is a lack of structure with problem solving. Meditating: I have those meditations that were suggested but never got into them. I've just started a Zen / Mindfulness group that holds a lot of promise, but having the discipline to practice at home ... Mother: I have no contact with her currently but she will always be a heavy burden to bear. Diary; good idea. I'll try it. I'm also trying to do some recovery scrapbooking and make a running list of all NSVs. Sent from my VS980 4G using the BariatricPal App

It's such an amazing feeling the first time you fly after! I never needed an extender, but would be anxious about it each time. The tray table, the extra slack on the belt, being able to bend over to get things out of your bag, it's all amazing. Seriously the best NSV feeling in the world!!
  10. Ok, so I was barely squeezing into a 30/32 in avenue women's clothing prior to surgery. So at about 10 months post-op, I went to lane bryant's during a sale and decided to buy a size 18/20 (I've always been hourglass/pear shape), thinking, these pants will probably last me through thanksgiving (I've experienced too big pants that look like you 're carrying a load of something really unpleasant around in the gluteal area), and those joints fit....I mean they fit like the fit will only last about a month of two; what a NSV for me! Another NSV is two other people sitting next to me on the NYC MTA subway (ok so they, not the fattest person, but two other people on a three sitter is an NSV for me!).
  11. Just bought my 1st pair of jeans in a regular clothing store. Feels so good to have a pair of jeans that makes my ass look good Also not paying 90$ for fat girl jeans is great. doesn't feel like a potato bag with legs :-) I tried a few pairs that fitted, Almost cried in the changing room. Just this feels good.

Clothing Sizes: What do they even mean anymore?!?!?

I love Victoria's Secret. As I was losing I had the ability to hang out mostly in yoga wear as I am not currently working. A pair of yoga pants can fit you for a long time. I found that VS tops however were a different issue for me and honestly their sizes can fit differently. I wear some larges that are too large and some larges that are too small. I was ordering a lot of their stuff on line and refused to take it back knowing I would likely fit into it in the coming month. Dumping lane Bryant for me was the best NSV ever. I used to hate clothes shopping and now I love to try on things just because I can. LOL. Also I found that if I buy clothing from anywhere, I tend to not return if it is too big or too small so trying things on really is the optimal way to purchase for us. I have found the Calvin Klein and Anne Klein clothing fits me fantastic and I love their fashion sense. There I know if I buy an 8 Jeans or a 10 slacks they will fit. Or if I buy a top in a large it will fit just right. They seem to be consistent. I have never had a size goal but never in a million years did I think I would go from a 24/26 to an 8. I cannot imagine what it will be like following my Abdominalplasty! Already with tops following my arm lift I can see I may have to go to a medium.

    Shopping NSV

Congratulations @@triplethreat !!! I know that had to feel great! The first of many shopping NSV's I'm sure. I'm hoping by October, my birthday month-- I will look forward to Shopping NSV's. For now I'm just enjoying the fact that my clothes currently fit me well. I tend to wear my clothing pretty snug, lots of material with stretch.. so I've been able to get away with wearing sizes that I have no business in. I don't imagine I'll be doing any shopping for a hot minute but I have a feeling that even when I do, unless its something insane... I won't be satisfied. I feel like I've been there before recently so it doesn't count (even though it does). Like for example-- I bought some fitted button up shirts for work when I first started this job 2 years ago. I gained some lbs and had to retire it or wear as a layered look with a cami underneath, and a crop sweater over it. I'm back in the shirt today, comfortably just like when I bought it and although I'm glad I to be back into it, I'm still like whatever I should be in it anyways. When it gets too big for me to wear, then I'll be satisfied. Keep up the great work!!!

    NSV shout outs

I tried on a XL dress and swim in it. No they didn't have L.Still have the fat girl mentality and reach out for labels with X in front of it. I can safely say that if its a stretchy fabric now I can wear L in tops comfortably. Earlier this week I got up to greet and hug a friend walking into the restaurant I was sitting in. She thought I was some crazy woman trying to get too close to her. We laughed till we cried. She had not seen me in a year. I'm not a fast loser. But I'm steady and staying focused. And NSVs give me extra motivation to stay focused.
  19. Yesterday I took my kids to buy some things at Old Navy. I did not know my size, because most of my clothes prior to surgery (7/12) had elastic which is quite forgiving (pants at least). Earlier that day I culled my closet and got rid of two bags of size 18,20,22. 1X, 2x that are too big. Other things I can pin or alter. Anyway....at ON my daughter told me I should try on some jeans that were on clearance and... For really the first time in a decade..:. I can wear a size not followed by an X!! I'm comfortably in a regular size! I bought the $10 clearance jeans and felt like amazing. Can't tell you my actual weight loss because I only weigh twice a month but I'm losing well!
