So i have the 3 week stall ugh
trudyjo replied to scottswifey's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi guys, just went through the dreaded 3 week stall myself. At 16 days I stopped losing no matter what i did. I was getting in all my protein and water, exercising daily, doing all we are told to do and nothing. It lasted 8 days... The scale finally dropped 1.5 pounds yesterday. It does pass, it's super frustrating, but it does pass... Hang in there! -
Go read 3 week stall. It is normal.

So I guess I hit a stall. I'm still 226. That 3 weeks stall everyone talks about I only mine was 2 1/2 weeks. I'm not gonna stress about it. I'm not gonna stress about it. Yeah right. I don't like it one bit. Wonder how long it lasts? But on the positive Side I'm not gaining. Time to read what people do during stalls to speed things up. Wish me luck. -
Great to hear you're doing well. And it sounds like you are right on time to hit the dreaded 3-week stall. I've had many stalls over the past 15 months and I've learned that if I just stick to my eating and exercise program, the weight starts to drop again. Good luck and Keep Pimpin' that Sleeve!

I started the bariatric program in January 2013 at my highest weight of 390. I lost 60lbs and met all of the other requirements for surgery in March. Weighed 330 on surgery day and I've been in the "3-week stall" for about a week and teetering between 301-304. My surgeon gave me a goal to lose 100-120lbs in 6mos. What I have lost is my motivation to walk, so I'm trying to get my stuff together. I go back to work in a few weeks and will be sitting on my butt all day...I'm worried but also excited to be away from temptations of home food. I'm proud of my progress so far...no complications...just gotta keep on keeping on.

I also am experiencing a stall. Last week was week 3 for me and my scale did not move. I am 2 days into week 4 an have gained a pound. How I couldn't tell you since I am staying at a 700 calorie diet and I walk 30 min 2x's a day. I am heartbroken and my husband is not very understanding at this moment since he just shelled out $17,000 for me to have this surgery and here I am not losing weight. There are so may threads on here about the dreaded 3 week stall I really hope it doesn't last any longer. -
Its called the '3 week stall'. Search the forums. There are millions of posts regarding it. Don't fear, stalls are normal - particularly the three week one. Your weight will drop - promise!

Y husband was sleeved and I don't remember him going through this. But I'm also constipated and due for my period so I'm wondering if gaining weight would be normal? I have gained 8 lbs

Happy birthday early cherry and good luck with your sugery. My reason for surgery was to avoid a long list of family health issues. I'm the 7th of 8 kids. In 95 my brother dropped dead of a massive heart attack at the age of 34. My mother had a stroke at 40, heart attack at 56 and passed away at 72 from her 3rd heart attack. My brothers have pacemakers or stents. My sisters are diabetics and take multiple meds for other problems. I'm 52 and have no medical issues but these are my genes. I decided now is the time before something happens. I was sleeved on 3/19. Down 30 lbs including what I lost with preop. Hit the 3 weeks stall and scale has not moved in 2 weeks. If it weren't for this forum, I'd be freaking out about not losing. Good luck to all and thank you.

Monty it helps to not weigh yourself for a week after you hit a stall. I hit the 3 week stall like clockwork and weighing myself everyday was so frustrating. Ultimately what helped me was increasing my calories and hitting my protein goal - that helps my break through -
Am i done losing weight?
ziggypbang replied to Healthier2day1227's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My vote is it's a stall. Mathematically, it just takes more than 1100 calories to support your current weight, even given the metabolic slowdown your weight loss has caused. I just came off a 3 week stall, so I totally feel your pain! If your body is accustomed to your cardio routine, you might consider adding wrist or ankle weights, or adding variety to your workout in some other way. But my gut says the scales going to start cooperating soon regardless! Congrats on your amazing success! -

How were you feeling 3 weeks out?
ebert replied to WhoKnows's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm feeling good now. I lost 20 lbs originally, but now my body is in the dreaded 3-week stall. The Japanese docs insist on a slightly longer post-op diet--two weeks of thin liquids followed by two of thicker. Currently, I'm drinking fruit/yogurt smoothies for Breakfast and lunch, and blender-processed Soup or curry for dinner. The smoothies can be bought at local convenience stores, and I supplement them with whey Protein. I'll be really happy when I'm allowed to eat soft solids again in 10 days. As for exercise, my NUT is really insisting on anaerobic exercise, not walking or biking. He's prescribed me a testosterone infused lipid blocker (called Lipokine), and in a couple weeks, he wants to start testosterone steroid injections. He really wants me to pick up as much muscle as I can while I shed weight .The idea is that he doesn't want me looking like a normal guy wearing a big suit of flappy skin (and I don't want that either). So, long story short, yes, I'm able to do weightlifting, but only as long as I focus on back/biceps, chest/triceps, and legs/shoulders. No abdominal exercises yet, and if anything is remotely painful for my stomach, I'm supposed to stop doing that right away. I used to live in Stuttgart when I was younger, so I know what you're talking about. It's been strange living in Japan for the past 8 years, always being (as you say) the fattest person in the room. The nice thing about being a foreigner in Japan, however, is that no matter what, you're always going to be the strangest person in the room simply because you're not Japanese. Being fat in Japan is like having a slightly more ridiculous clown nose to go with the rest of the clown outfit that all foreigners are imagined to wear. Japanese people aren't too shy to point out the fact that I weigh too much--they commonly ask my weight and openly wonder if American food did this too me--but they don't do it judgmentally at all. They seem to like the distinctiveness that I bring into their ordinary world. I had an attractive Japanese gf for a year who loved my body shape. Most of my friends here are fellow foreigners, from the US, Aus, GB or Canada. However, I have few Japanese friends too. I'd have more J-friends, but I'm not all that social and am rarely interested in the things they're typically interested in, e.g. Japanese pop-music, television, baseball or soccer. -

Tracking food too much for anyone?
Rena's got this replied to gomekast's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't track, except maybe in my head. I keep a guesstimate of how many carbs, fats, and Proteins I've consumed, but if I'm off, its ok. I'm not obsessive. The only real effort I'm making at this point (6 weeks post surg) is in getting Protein and Water. I've done ok so far. I thought I hit that dreaded 3 week stall, then I got a tummy bug and boom... lost 6 pounds overnight. I'm positive most of that was water, but I haven't gained much of it back, even though I've rehydrated myself. I wish I could track, I've even gone so far as to load myfitness pal onto my smartphone, but haven't even started using it yet. I don't think that tracking capability is in my brain. -
so much for starting to feel better...
Lamonica2013 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
After hitting a nearly 3 week stall I finally started losing again this past week slowly. Finally I was starting to feel better and not so down on myself. I went to see my doctor today and I've lost 7 lbs in the last month. Instead of hearing words of encouragement he told me I wasn't doing a good enough job and need to work harder. I explained to him I hit a stall and couldn't lose and nd I just started losing again. His words "well you just have to work through it". It didn't matter how hard I worked I couldn't lose it. I really thought I was doing good. Was even kinda proud of myself and need starting to accept this new life style better now I feel like I'm back at square one and did nd depressed again. -

Any February 2014 Sleevers?
Sarahjane79 replied to honeyg317's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've also noticed if I lower my cals for a day or two then go back up to 7-800 cals i lose easier. I always average about 25-35 g of fat a day. Maybe that's why I haven't really stalled(had a 3 week stall but it was short) or didn't gain even during my period? -
Weight coming off too fast?
angiem1973 replied to angiem1973's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You guys are awesome! Thanks! The Protein is a battle right now- I've tried ALL of the brands- the fruit based, the milk based - they are all disgusting. But I may just have to hold my nose and get it in. So I guess the "3 week stall" is what I should watch out for and look fondly back at the "oh crap it's coming off to fast" when that happens. I'm keeping my Water up pretty good- I'm not having any nausea and I can almost chug water without problems . Thanks again for the support- this newbie has lots of questions. -
So.... Exactly how long does the 3 week stall last?
CrazyJaney posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm snarky, grumpy, discouraged and generally just over this whole sleeve thing tonight. I think I'm PMSing too. I've been on these boards for months. I've read everything to prepare myself. Yet I wasn't exactly prepared for just how frustrating this first stall was gonna be. Please, tell me cutting 80% of my stomach out was a good idea and that this will eventually work. I know I'm whining. How can the human body eat so little and not lose weight??????? I'll go to bed now and hope for some kind of improvement in mood tomorrow. It's gonna get better. Right? -
Gaining 3 weeks post op !
NMJG replied to KimberlyBranco7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is really unlikely that you can eat enough calories at 3 weeks to gain actual fat, i have to say. You are also coming up on possible 3 week stall.....give it time and just stay on plan. Start your exercise as soon as your doctor gives the ok, it will give you a lot of benefits. -
I'm 3 weeks post op tomorrow. I've been in a stall for 10 or more days. I was horribly constipated. I'd been taking stuff for several days to get me going without luck. Until 11 pm last night. Diarrhea all night and more today. Seems like everything hit at once. If I haven't lost 3 pounds in poo today, I'll be pissed! Trying to drink extra fluids now. This 2/3 week stall bites. I KNOW I'm doing everything right, my body is just tripping. I do need to work on more fluids. I'm seriously considering a camel back.

When was your first stall?
Comfy_Blue replied to kimpatcan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never experienced the infamous 3 week stall (by which I mean my weight stopped dropping around week 3 after the operation) but I did have a quasi-stall that lasted about 2 and a half weeks. My weight basically stayed between 184 - 185lbs. I was really worried. As I posted in another thread, I feel this was because I stopped following the 30/30. I started taking a swig or two of milk right after eating a meal or snack OR I'd have a few swigs of milk, then immediately eat a meal or snack. My rationale was "I won't eat as much because there's already a little something in my stomach". Yeah...about that...my weight remained a steady 184/185. Finally on Saturday night I decided to get back on the 30/30. Today is Wednesday and my weight is 180 lbs. (I weight every morning and every night, so I could actually see my weight starting to go down from that one change) -
I'm 2.5 weeks post op. I'm in a stall and it's so frustrating. I lost 28 preop which was great but only 17 (not only but you know) since surg - pretty Much all of that in 10 days. So 45 pounds since last August. I've read all about the 3 week stall and I kept telling myself to just let it go but it's harder to deal with than I thought it would be. I'm doing everything right, except exercising. Do you exercise when you're eating 600 calories a day? I'm lightheaded and muscle fatigued when I just carry something. Maybe I'm rushing it. I just really don't want to screw this up, I mean, really! I did this huge thing to help insure suscess. How utterly frustrating it is to stall!!!!! I too hold onto weight during my period, at least I did presleeve. To eat 600 calories a day and not lose weight is just really discouraging. I'm sorry I'm venting on your thread. I've read everything I can and *know* it's normal but in the back of my mind, it feels like failure.
