From the album: 8 Weeks Post-Op
Left pic is 4 days before Surgery (3/22) Right pic is 8 weeks post (5/22) -
I got a call from the bariatric nurse today. “We can schedule your surgery for October 2nd.” That’s two weeks away! And granted, that’s pending insurance approval, but holy cow! I’ve been in the program since March and everything has taken so long due to COVID. I just had my EGD last week, I guess I was just expecting a lot more waiting before getting a surgery date. I’m excited, but at the same time, I kind of wanted to have one last food (and drink) hurrah with friends before surgery. But not going to complain... the wait is almost over!

lap band gone for 4 years ready for a sleeve need a good surgeon in mexico
livelyterry replied to dbering's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
There are a lot of people doing revisions from band to sleeve. Are you wanting to have it done near your home? Have insurance that will pay for it? Self pay? I had my band for 10 years, had it removed last year and had the sleeve done 4 weeks ago. It is awesome, nothing like the band. I haven't thrown up once, and am on soft foods now. I've lost almost 20 pounds so far. Best thing I've done. -
I had my surgery June of 2015 - so I'm in your range. I'm in maintenance and eat 1200-1400 kcal a day. I malabsorb Protein, so I make a double Protein shake every morning and sip on it all day. So that's like 200-300 calories right there, depending on what I put in it. Then I usually eat around 200 kcal for Breakfast, around 300 or so for lunch and dinner. I often have a snack in the evening, too - like yogurt. If I didn't do the protein shake, I'd probably have a couple of low-calorie Snacks during the day, like a hard-boiled egg or one of those Fit & Light Greek yogurts. I'm not a gym rat, but I try to get to the gym 2-3 times a week (mostly strength-training and/or Water aerobics). I also go to a yoga class 1-2x a week.

I just want to lose weight. I'm so discouraged. I haven't really lost anything in two months. I weight myself everyday. I can't seem to leave scale alone for more than a day. Six weeks ago when I went in for a fill I had lost 4lbs in a month. Then two weeks ago when I went for my fill I had lost only 1 lb in a month. I just want to lose. I have start excerising and I try to count calories. I know that I don't eat as much as I use to, but I'm not losing. I really thought this was the way to go, but guess I will never be thin or smaller. I haven't even changed sizes yet, still wearing 3X. I have lost 31 lbs. I told myself that I would be happy if I lost anything at all, but that was a lie to myself. I want to lose. I want to be a normal size. I want to feel good. I do feel some better, my knee doesn't hurt nearly as much. I want to get off some the drugs I have been on for years. I want to travel and not have to feel out of place on airplanes. I want to walk in a store, or anyplace I go without people staring at me. I WANT TO BE NORMAL.

I am almost 3 weeks post-op lap band. Who am I? I have never taken drugs/speed before but I am assuming this is what it feels like. I can't sleep. I am wide awake and FULL of energy. I have a hard time falling asleep and when I do sleep it is only for a few hours. I can't sit still when I am awake. This is so not me. I googled insomnia and bariatric surgery and it said that I may be in ketosis. What I want to know is how do I make it go away because I feel out of control almost? My mind is racing at the speed of lighting. Has anyone else experienced this before after surgery? Thanks!

My insurance requires me to have 6 months of documented dieting which I go to my 5th month appointment next week and 5 years of medical history. I have done everything that was asked but I am having a really hard time with the 5 years of medical history due to my insurance changing every year for the last five years. I have been with the same company for 8 years now but to keep insurance cost down they have changed insurance each year. I do not even know how to start on getting 5 years of history or if I even have 5 years of history. Any suggestions?

I am 8 weeks post-op and had my first fill last week. Before the fill, once I was cleared to eat, I could eat anything -- I mean, anything -- and did. :faint:So naturally, I gained all pre-op and most post-op weight back. So I was really looking forward to the fill which happened a week ago. At first, it looked like I could eat anything again. So I called and made another fill appointment for next week. It's a big deal for me, because I need take a day off work to travell from Philly to NYC (at cost of over $120 both ways) plus the cost of fills (I'm self-pay). But I was willing to do it because I wanted my band to start working for me. Incidentally, I must plug Dr. Ren in NYC -- I felt NOT A THING with the fill!! Back to my dilemma -- this morning, I started on my 1/2 bagel with light cream cheese -- and after a couple of bites, I started to feel quite gross -- I had slime, funny burping sounds (sounded like the Emergency Broadcast system!) It hurt quite a bit, then out it came after about 1/2 hour of writhing and squeaming. So clearly, I have some restriction. But I'm still hungry! Question is: should I still go for my fill? I like the negative reinforcement of eating improperly, but I'm still physically hungry -- I don't have that filled feeling at all. I wonder if just a tad more would do the trick - allows me restriction to the point of losing hunger without causing overfilling? I'd love to experience the sweet spot!! Your advice/experience would be very welcome! :clap2: Danielle

Have either of you two had a recent upper GI? At any rate, I am going for my second opinion next week armed with all my test results including CD's of my two upper GI's - one after my first fill and the other after my second fill. As an update: after this second upper GI - my surgeon called me in that day (even though it was not a day he sees patients) to get the amount of the second fill removed (1cc). I have felt a lot better since then, no reflux or heartburn or pain. I only have 2 cc in now. But I am still troubled by his attitude when I told him about all my problems after the second fill and before the tests - he said just to eat the protein and throw away all the other food and basically thought it was my fault - what and how I was eating. Well, when he saw that upper GI his attitude was completely different - my pouch and esophagus were swollen and everything was backing up. But even though 2 upper GI's and one endoscopy said I have a hiatal hernia he does not think I have one. That is why I am going for a second opinion - I want a new set of eyes looking at all of this.

I have my 1 week post op visit next week and see what they have to say about my healing since I am still clueless what to expect Vanessa, hope your surgery goes well! Its nice you and your husband are doing this together and can be supportive of eachother through it all! My husband had gastric bypass 8 years ago- so he was a big help with me the last few days making sure I have everything I need. Sure makes a world of difference with people there that understand!

I have been considering wls for while. My husband is self employed and we have not had insurance for a while. We have finally caught up on everything and so I went through the very long process to apply for insurance through BCBS of TX for us and our 4 kids. I knew they would not cover the wls and planned to self pay but wanted to have the insurance in case of complications. Once everything was submitted to underwriting I started the process for gastric sleeve, met with the Dr and set a date for July 31st. Then the next week was notified by insurance that I was denied coverage because of the meds I take for water retention. It does not make sense to me why they denied me but my agent said I can appeal the decision and re-apply. I have decided to just wait until after surgery and trust God and move forward my plans for surgery without insurance. Does anyone know how long I will need to wait after surgery until it would be good for me to re-apply for insurance?

I was on liquids for the first week, but I was still thirsty. I am drinking a little more often, but now I am on yogurt, shakes, pudding, and tuna! I will let you know if I find a solution to my problem. And good luck to you!

3 months out & needing remotivation
TQUAD64 replied to allegra314's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Allegra: Why do you have to wait so long for your first fill? I hang out in the exercise forum of this web site. That really motivates me. I know that does not work for everyone. But because I work long hours and have a long commute, I cannot go to a gym or meet with a buddy in person. So the best motivation for me is the exercise thread. Plus, I bought a new Ipod and every week I down load motivational songs on it to help me get through my treadmill exercise routine. Oh and the big motivation is that I have lost three pant sizes. I see results and it makes me want to keep my exercise routine going. I did not see results, I would not want to keep up with exercise. Take care, -
Wow! Why did that happen?
Jachut replied to 1SkinnyChick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I find my band extremely touchy if I go a long time without eating. It gets very tight. It might be as simple as that. Try to get some nutritious liquids down a bit more often during the day perhaps. You do get random tightness too, you'll learn your band is not usually the same from one day or week to the next. -
They can do a type of upper GI to see if there is any fluid. I'm one of the odd ones that noticed restriction. At 3.5 for my first fill, I couldn't even drink water and they had to pull .5 out. But it only lasted a couple of weeks. Most likely, the first PA missed both times so you may only have 2 cc's in. That won't cause much restriction. But really impressive to have lost more than 50 pounds without restriction.

I had a friend point this out to me as sort of a NSV. It is actually something that never would have happened if I had not had the surgery and lost weight.. I had a small claims case filed in my hometown court. It was a family member who I helped out and was supposed to pay me back, but never did. Long story short I wanted what he owed, so I filed the case. On Sept. 23rd I received a UPS envelope that contained a letter from the tv show "Hot Bench". It is a new daytime court show featuring a three judge panel. They found my case filing and were inviting me to have my case heard on the show. At first I thought I was being punked, no way this was true. I did a Google search and hound out the show was legit. I decided what the heck and replied to them. Less than a week later I was on a flight to Los Angeles!!! We taped the show Tuesday the 30th and I was heading back home Wednesday. It was completely surreal and hard to believe I really went to Hollywood and will be on tv. ( Air date of the show is unknown right now) I never, ever would have considered being on tv at my former weight. Even the size I am now I felt a bit odd, but not enough to keep me from a once in a lifetime opportunity. When do you get an all expense paid trip out to LA and the chance at 15 minutes of fame? ( Literally - 15 minutes. Half hour show split into two 15 minute segments...LOL) It was pretty amazing. And while I cannot tell you the outcome of the case I will encourage you all to watch "Hot Bench" and be looking for me!!!!

Question about weight gain while on gabapentin
Dar200 replied to Djmohr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have severe osteo arthritis in my spine and knees. I'm currently taking Lyrica daily plus Vicodin daily. I have a very low threshold for pain. Just can't tolerate. I have a spinal cord stimulator for my lower back and knees. I get injections for my low back pain - I'm still recovering from two sacral fractures. The very best response I've had is with the epidural injections. My doc does the left and right separately, two weeks apart. I am sedated during this so basically I go in stooped over in pain and walk out upright. The injection site may be tender for a day or two. The relief I get from the epidurals is magic for me and the relief lasts for three to six months. People respond to treatments differently, but I recommend at least trying epidurals one time to see if you can get some relief. I wish you well. And Happy Holidays! -
Humana Select Insurance
Derby replied to Linnielady's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there, I'm a teacher too...in Tampa. My surgeon is Dr. Jessee. She was wonderful. Humana has been great (and that is not something I would say lightly having dealt with them for years)! I had my surgery at Palms of Pasadena and they too were FANTASTIC! My surgery was outpatient and I took about a week to recover. I hope you can get a date during the break...I'll keep my fingers crossed. Good Luck, Deb -
Humana Select Insurance
Linnielady replied to Linnielady's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Derby, Thanks for responding to my post. I went to my surgeon today and I'm hoping to get approval by next Thursday. He gave me a date for December 23 or possibly the 21 if another patient does not get approval. I to am a teacher and would love to have my surgery done while on Christmas break. I will need to start my 2 week fast this coming Thursday to be able to have my surgery. I plan on calling Humana on Monday. I am so prepared for this to happen. I am thankful that Humana made me wait the 6 months. It gave me time to do my research and make a sound decision about having Lapband surgery. Do you have a date yet? I live in St Petersburg. Dr Huguet is my surgeon. I really like him and feel comfortable with him. He has a very compassionate way about him. Let me know where you are in your journey, Hope to hear from you soon. -
Anyone experienced surgical postponement for medical issues?
megolego replied to ThinkBoxGirl57's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm sorry, that stinks! My whole "approval process" was delayed because my pulmonologist wanted me to do a sleep study which wound up showing that I have sleep apnea which delayed everything for about 6 months. I did all I needed to do with my CPAP and she then finally made a recommendation for me to have the surgery. I was very discouraged during this whole process (it took me over a year) but I had good support from coworkers that have had the gastric sleeve and they just reminded me that the process is a marathon and their advice and support helped me. I just joined these forums last week and have found them to be helpful and supportive as well so if you are ever having a bad day come one here and look at some past posts or ask some questions that can help you prepare for next year. Good luck -
Anyone experienced surgical postponement for medical issues?
ThinkBoxGirl57 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am very sad and depressed right now.. half way through the six-month pre-bariatric program at my hospital, I finally met with the surgeon a month ago. He determined : 1) because I was still living on Prednisone for my Myasthenia Gravis, and had had surgical complications 4 years ago after an automobile accident left me with a perforated colon; and 2). a knee injury which left me in a wheelchair for 3 months this spring created DVT blood clots- that I was not a candidate for elective surgery at this time. I cried for days afterward. In my car, in the grocery store, in my art studio. I could not stop crying. I live with a rare neuro-muscular disease, and finally had to be placed on high dose steroids for it (100 mg/day) 19 years ago. Or should I say, 140 lbs ago? Steroids down to 10 mg/day now with IVIG infusions every 4 weeks. Evidently IV immunoglobin doesn’t effect surgical healing the way that Prednisone does. Dr. pointed out that even if I had been otherwise healthy, the DVTs alone would have postponed the surgery by 10-12 months. We made a loose date for reevaluation in June 2019, if my neurologist can get me off of the steroids completely six months prior by increasing the frequency of the IVIG doses. I was looking into this surgery 4 years ago right before the bus accident, and the possibility of finally having it got me through the multiple horrific resection surgeries. I am still eligible for the sleeve gastrectomy, but know that it will take fortitude to stick with the ‘non-surgical weight loss program’, rehab and exercising and prednisone tapering until my reevaluation in the Spring. It just feels like a dream slipping away, and I am having trouble staying motivated with my program. Has anyone else experienced surgical postponements for underlying medical conditions? Very much looking for motivation advice. Thank you.- 3 replies

I have struggled with this lapband since October 8, 2008. I lost 23 lbs at the beginning on the liquid diet. Within six months after my lapband I came down with psoriatic arthritis. This is an immune disease that leaves psoriasis all over your body and arthritis in your joints. Can also affect your organs. Is compared to Rheumatoid Arthritis. I should have known not to do this because I already had sjogrens, another immune disease. I don't know if I was pre-destined to get this or the lapband actually caused it, these are things we will never know. I just know that I have struggled with this disease and now on methotextrate injections every week and simponi once a month. Have been on Humira and Embrel but didn't work. I am a little scared about the surgery again but I know it is the best thing to do for me. If any of you have ever had these issues please get back to me. We need to let the company know if this is the cause to help others not to do this. I understand alot of people do have success and I am very happy for them but I have also been doing alot of research and it seems that over 40 % of the people with lapbands will have to remove them within 5 years because of some kind of complication. I don't want to wait until that happens. If any of you can, please pray for me that everything goes well and I can get my life back to normal again. I plan on starting a nutrtitional healthy plan with some exercise. I have found out the hard way for me the only way to lose weight is to burn more calories than you take in. No miracles out there for me. Thanks for listening. I sure hope that the girl who had the band removed this week is okay. She hasn't responded to anyone yet. Prayers need to go up for her too. Cheryl

Please tell me I havent screwed up!
jaymie replied to robinbare's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it depends on what your doctor gave you for a post-op diet plan. I had 1 week clear liquids; then 1 week full liquids, 1 week pureed food then normal food. What were you given as a post-op diet?
