    Mar 18th surgery

I had my surgery Mar. 18th. It was an open revision from an old horizontal stomach stapling to RNY. I feel really great today. I had a couple of days of depression, but I wasn't getting much sleep and i think that made it feel worse. Once I slept, I felt so good! My incision is a little sore, but other all is well. i'm alternating between nectar Fuzzy Naval (watered down a little), and Protein drinks made the triple x method by Bariatric Foodie. I add a little sugar free pudding mix to the Protein powder and milk, blend it well, add ice, and blend it really well again. I put some in a small cup, and put the rest in the refrigerator, and eat it a little at a time. I bought some little disposable tasting spoons from Amazon, because I was having trouble keeping my bites small enough with a regular spoon. I found that some liquid Tylenol helps if my inner stitches (or whatever is holding all that together inside!) hurts. I don't know if it coats it, or what, but it does give me some relief! I hope my March surgery friends are doing well!

    FAILED GASTRIC SLEEVE SURGERY

I have a large sleeve, it literally does nothing to help me. My doc used a 42 bougie and went loose due to the scar tissue from my band and it easily stretched out quite a bit. I've got my x-rays to prove it looks nothing like any other "sleeves" I've ever seen. I've done a ton of research on this and I'm pretty sure that narrowing through the middle which can create an hour glass shape is sometimes a post op "complication" of the sleeve, i say complications however obviously it's not causing any issues, it's just not the desired outcome. I'm currently looking into options to revise. Best of luck to you !

    FAILED GASTRIC SLEEVE SURGERY

Thanks for the responses... I was thinking the same thing! This says nothing. The one thing that stuck out is that it states "mild narrowing"... I would think that it would more than mild?? Either way I am healthy so that is a great thing:) I'm just continuing with the program and hope that I will lose again. I stopped at about 5 months our. I have been super frustrated but now that I finally can see somebody again I'm excited and thankful. If it's too big, yes the MD said he'd be open to a revision. Not sure I want that but I'm willing to look at it as an option. PS starting weight at time of surgery was about 260 lbs?
  4. Thank you ! It's frustrating more than anything but I've worked very hard over the years and through all the ups and downs I've only gained back 40 of the 120lbs I've lost. I just wish I had done a lot more research before revising from band to sleeve and i would have skipped that all together...live and learn

    Overweight! Including Progress Pics

@@Nyelaah @@drmeow I had a tummy tuck 3.5 years ago after having lost 90 pounds "on my own". Unfortunately, I re-gained and re-lost and re-gained my way back up to within 10 pounds of my original starting weight over the course of 3 years. So with my BMI back up over 40 and facing another long haul to re-lose the weight, I decided to have VSG in the hopes that this time will be the LAST time and I will not regain once I am back down to goal. Luckily, my tummy tuck held up exceptionally well through the regain and looks awesome now that I am back down close to the weight I was at when I had it. Edit: I also have fake boobs! I had a breast lift with augmentation at the same time as my tummy tuck. Unfortunately they have NOT held up as well as my tummy tuck through the weight fluctuations and I will have to have a revision done once I am back down and maintaining at goal.
  6. I had the sleeve 5 years ago and due to acid reflux and my esophagus was collapsing I had to have a revision to the bypass 14 months ago . I'm a 105lbs now and want to stop losing. I have been having issues since I had the revision. I just had a pick line in that I gained 20lbs and 3 weeks later it was gone. At first it was diarrhea and now its vomiting. I seemed to can't get a break. I felt great with the pick line in but that is dangerous walking around with a IV in your arm feeding you dripping over your heart. I just has another EDG on Monday and they found nothing again. I had to spend another $300 for that. I am trying to stay positive but this is getting very hard and expensive. Need someone to talk to.

    Making Myself Crazy!

I definitely think it's worth taking the time to do the research and make an educated decision. If you just decided on MGB within the last few days, slow down and really find out what you are getting yourself into. Why are you revising from sleeve in the first place? When were you sleeved?

    2015 Crossfit Open

I love it too! I have never worked out so hard in my life and I've never enjoyed it so much!! I'm looking into a revision surgery soon and I hate the idea of having to take so much time off to heal, I know going back will be like starting over and the pain that came the first few days is not something I ever want to go through again! lol

Amazed at the damage the lap did...

I didn't know. What showed up on the barium swallow test (that was just done as an annual exam) was that I had pseudo-achalasia (from what I understand, that is a stretching of the esophagus and is associated with motility issues with food moving from the esophagus to the stomach.) As far as the band and it being embedded in my stomach and liver and me having lots of scar tissue and inflammation, I was totally asymptomatic. We only knew when the surgeon went in to do a revision surgery from the band to the sleeve. That is what he found.... I was soooo disappointed, when I awoke from surgery, to learn that the sleeve procedure wasn't able to be done. But, now I am glad to wait the four to six months for the organ healing to be complete.
  10. I've done so much obsessive research, I'm literally making myself crazy over this! I originally wanted to be resleeved and thought that Dr. Wilhmey was the perfect surgeon for the job, then through my research I decided a revison to MGB would be best and Dr. Rodriguez would be the man for the job (Dr. Wilhmey doesn't do revisions to MGB) then last night I find a post where someone went to him in February and had a bowel punctured (I know things happen) but still in all honestly I'm amazed by the following and support of both Dr. Ramos Kelly and Dr. Illan on FB which makes me think if SOOO many had such great expereinces with them, maybe one of them would be the better choice....I would love to have this done in April and that's getting close, I'm seriously starting to lose sleep over this, it's such a hard decision and I want to make sure I make the best one, especially with this being my 3rd and final attempt to get it right!!

ouch that really sucks! I am hoping and praying that things clear up for you before it becomes necessary to revise it so soon!

    Band to Sleeve

Any band to sleeve revisions? Was it all in one surgery? Did you have to wait between surgeries? What are your stats? Are you a slow loser?
  13. I have a sleeve and am looking to revise too, I'm pretty sure I'm going with the MGB, have you looked into it at all ?
  14. When I had lapband I didn't tell anyone at work, and almost no family or friends. I said I had "routine female stuff, nothing life threatening" and left it at that. It does create a snowball of lies. I said that the gas and anesthesia left some lingering nausea and that I had dropped 10 lbs recovering. After dropping 20-30 lbs I said that losing that 10 spurred me to try to drop some more. Tangled web stuff... Shortly after I just fessed up and told everyone that I had LabBand surgery. I told my closer friends and co-workers that I it was such a personal difficult decision, that I was afraid of failure, of being under a microscope, of being judged.... Everyone seemed to understand. Of course, by 30-40 lbs down all those initial fears were a thing of the past! I totally understand if you want to keep this a personal decision and journey.... for a while or for always. If you do, I would go with the hiatal hernia surgery. P.S. For my revision I told EVERYONE. I was put on a prayer list at work for my surgery day, and got many supporting texts while I was recovering. The encouragement has been very uplifting.

VSG in Mexico One Week Post-op

I'm hoping to schedule with him in April for a revision from sleeve to MGB, so good to hear your experience went so well !
  16. Hey yal. I was sleeved 21 days ago. I'm having too much acid that my surgeon wants to revise me to bypass. I was looking for a lady I saw on here that was a sleeve to bypass revision ...or anyone that had one and could help me with some info. thanks
  17. I had my lap band done in May 2011 at the time I weighed 281 lbs. I was able to get down to 230 within 6 months but then just stalled out. In 2013 I got pregnant and had my daughter 2/25/15 but after having her I could not get back under 250. (I had extreme port pain the last few months of my pregnancy I think from my growing belly and stuff, some days I wanted to cut it out myself because it hurt so bad) So, I decided to have it converted to gastric bypass. I went into it like it was no big deal and thought I would be fine because I didn't have much pain when I had the band put in. But, on 3/19/15 I woke up in recovery is the worst pain on my left side where the port was. It's now been 6 days and I still hurt so bad. My right side doesn't hurt at all it's just the left. Has anyone else had the same problem if so how long did your pain last. It's making taking care of a 1 yr old who doesn't walk yet suck as I can't move without having sharp pain like I'm being ripped open. Oh they also had to remove my gallbladder as during pre-op testing they saw I had gallstones. On a side note I'm so glad I found this forum because I don't know anyone that has had revision surgery to know what is normal.
  18. Has anyone gone through the process of being approved for a revision surgery with Blue Cross Blue Shield of New England in Mass? Any thoughts? Were you approved? How long did it take?
  19. Hi All, Has anyone had a revision surgery done at TUFTS hosptial in Boston, MA? If so, what was your process like? Did it take a while for you to get a surgery date scheduled? I have my first appointment with the surgical fellow at the beginning of April, and I'm hoping to have surgery in June or July. Does this sound like a feasible timeline? I have blue cross and blue shield, so I don't have a specific 6 month waiting period.

    African American vsgers!

There are not a lot of AA women on the forum, but I have never seen any AA men. I am beginning to feel like I am the only AA man who has had sleeve surgery. I was sleeved on March 17, 2015. So, am one week post op. My surgery was a revision from the lap band. I would love to know about success stories from other AA men.
  22. Where to begin. Well much like most of you we are all chasing that dream. I was always the fat girl in my crew cute for a fat girl and never really felt like I was confident or cute enough to hang with my mom and skinny sisters. In 2009 I decided at 327 pounds that enough was enough. I researched the band and at the time it was relatively new. I save up and went down to Mexico so very I'll prepared but no one could talk me out of it. So there I was on a plane like no turning back now. So I had the surgery returned home and actually from 2009 to 2013 I never had a fill... bad I know my band helped me lose 127 ponds but I was miserable couldn't eat lived off of snacks that was my life for years but it became a health issue. I went to a US doctor we will call him dr asshole, because we were to do a band to Sleeve revision. At that time I had alot of a car tissue so he removed my band and I woke up totally unprepared to go payout life without a tool in place to help me, since I never really learned discipline with the band. As soon as I could eat again I went in and gained 60-70 pounds in a year or less. I was super depressed as all my cute clothes I could no longer fit almost like I was being teased. So I started to research the sleeve and almost went back to Mexico but I have insurance so I decided to take the 4 month route after Tons of appointments I finally was sleeved on 03/17/2015. Since my pre op I was 267 and as of today my one week follow up I've lost 21 pounds. What an emotional ride. I can't lie I had a breakdown like shoot will i regret this but it's to late so I have to now work it to the best of my abilities. At my follow up my doctors told me that normal to feel this way and to continue to push forward and I will see progress. So here is to the new me and us and any encouragements questions comments are greatly appreciated.

Should or shouldn't. Is it worth it?

I revised from RNY to SIPS. I had it done due to medical issues.
  24. Peacheeie- my story is just like your. My starting weight was 207 had a revision do to band failure and also diabetes. I have gotten down as far at 185. I started working out the lasts 3 weeks and I'm up to 188. Calories are set To 800 by me. Dr states not to count calories, eat three meals and stay away from carbs. I can eat more then 4 oz, wonder if I stretched my sleeve. Dr and RNP says my weightloss will be slow because of the band.
  25. I did not have a revision. I had Bypass and I love it. My blood work is fine and I don't have any malabsorption issues at this point. I don't have GERD either. I made this choice in part because I had pre-diabetes and the bypass has the best prognosis for remission. If I was already on my way to diabetes of course I wanted to avoid insulin shots if at all possible. Good luck. Your acid sound wicked, so sorry. Its hard right now but you will get there.
