    Worries..

It will come quicker than you think. You will lose the weight; think positively and throw the "stinking thinking" away.
  2. You can do simple things that won't really change your habits. If you have dairy, make sure it's full fat (2%milk not skim, full fat yogurt and cottage cheese not 0%). If you do Protein bars, switch them out for some whole grain bars with more carbs. Add in just one more healthy but high calorie snack to your daily menu... 1/2 cup of nuts, a banana, tuna or crab salad made with real mayo and served with crackers, whole grain Cereal with whole milk, a cup of raw veggies with dip or ranch dressing, etc. this is what I did when I hit goal and wanted to stop losing. Are you seeing a therapist or have access to a counseling group? Being afraid to eat more in order to stop losing weight is just as much of an eating disorder as eating too much.
  3. Hello Everyone! I've been on the sidelines reading this forum for a few weeks now but didn't want to participate until I had my insurance approval. I got the good news yesterday and it's finally begining to set in. I'm so nervous and excited. I have battled with my weight for most of my life and I am finally in a position to win this battle. Thank you to all who have posted your stories and inspired and motivated me to get this done. I hope one day my story will be able to inspire someone to take the steps to winning the fight of their life!!!
  4. Ever sense I got home yesterday afternoon my calf muscles feel like I lift weights all day. Does anyone no y. Is this normal?
  5. Ugh! So frustrating! So sorry that happened! Your doctor was just looking out for you but I cant even imagine the disappointment. Glad you have a hepatologist. Definitely a good place to start. I think 2nd opinion from another surgeon might be a good idea. And I don't want to derail you but I just wanted to pass on what little I know on the subject... My aunt had fatty liver / Cirrhosis and she proceeded with bypass (back in 2010). Her doctors advised her liver was pretty far gone at this point, so they did the bypass as a last ditch effort to get the weight off. (This is really before sleeve was widely practiced.) She was a diabetic and while she did lose weight, she didn't really follow any of the food instructions and she stayed sick. Knowing what I know now, I think she was dumping constantly. I am very sorry to say that she passed away 3 1/2 years after surgery, but I really don't think the bypass had that much to do with it. It was more that she didn't change her lifestyle so her diabetes got worse which upped her insulin and therefore made her liver worse, etc. Fast forward to this year and my mom has been very worried she would have liver issues (also diabetic) and she has asked several drs but they never did anything. Finally got a new dr and they did an ultrasound and sent her to a hepatologist who told her she had Cirrhosis. She was telling dr about her sister (my aunt) and the dr said that they used to think bypass would have a positive result on cirrhosis but now they have found that it can actually make it worse and strongly advising her not to pursue weight loss surgery. Seriously not trying to discourage you at all. Just wanted to advise what I knew since it was recent. I think seeing someone at Johns Hopkins who seems to be at the top of their game for research is a great idea. Plus if your hepatologist didn't seem that concerned about it, then maybe my mom's dr was just more conservative. Hopefully you can do some more research and others from here with similar will give some advice. Keep us updated!
  6. Thanks Kelly. I've tried the product, Naked which is a Protein smoothie but all this is getting old. How do you add the weight loss tickers? I haven't mastered this website yet.
  7. I haven't been here in a long time, I was doing so good lost almost 100lbs and then life changes caused me so much stress I began to eat stuff I shouldn't, in doing so I've gained 30lbs back :wink2: I'm so disappointed with myself, all the hard work and I just messed up. So I went and got my band tightened and I'm hoping I can do what I need to do and get back on track. My question is has anyone else ever did this? is it normal to slip back into bad habits? Is there any snacks that are good but are not fattening for you? I just want to get back on track and do whats right, so if you all have any thing that will help let me no, I'm so ashamed. Bobbie

    I messed, up :O(

I'm in the same boat. I lost 100 then had a slippage and during the unfill period managed to gain back 20lbs. I've just had my second fill and am working on being back on the wagon. In my endeavors to curb my snacking habits I have turned to chewing gum. I find if I can just chew a piece of gum while sipping some liquid this satisfies by desire to have something in my mouth while the drinking satisfies the feel of putting something in my tummy. Also someone mentioned to me the 5 day pouch diet to help jumpstart being a "loser" again and I'm going to try that as well. Thanks LeighaMason for that wonderful list of Snacks.

    banded yesterday!!!

Hey we were banded on the same day and really the same time. I remember being wheeled into the or room at 7:32 am and the last time I remember them saying was it was 7:40 am and the gas was starting. That is so cool. How are you doing I am doing great, tired of the liquids already because nothing tastes right. What was your starting weight if you don't mind me asking. I weighed 372 the day of my surgery. Maybe we can keep in contact since we are going through this day by day together.

    Slimfast Anyone???

I used slim fast when at work and on the go while on liquids. When I could I used a mix from a weight loss program HMR700. I would just watch the calorie and Protein count closely, the calories can add up quick on the ready-to-use protein stuff sometimes. As far as tolerating it, I didn't have any problems with it. Good luck on your upcoming Lapband!!!!!!
  12. I have problems with my lower back, S/I joint, and hip, which was one of the reasons I decided to get surgery. I was caught in this cycle of not being able to exercise (or even take a short walk), and then gaining more weight, which made the pain worse. Like you, I was also concerned about being able to walk after surgery like they wanted me to. But since surgery (just 1 week ago) I've actually been able to walk better than I have in a couple years without pain. I lost about 25 lbs under the dietitian's monitoring for a couple months prior and on the pre-op diet, so maybe that was enough to get some of the pressure off my back. I only took pain meds in the hospital and before bed for a few days after, so I don't think that's it. The recumbent bike may be a good way to get exercise in, but part of the reason that they emphasize walking right off the bat is to help work out the gas that's pumped into you during surgery, so I don't know if the bike would help with that or not. Good luck! Here's to no more (okay, less) pain! Edited to add: Like @@kimby1029 said, Water aerobics is great for joint pain. I cannot wait to get back to my classes at the Y. If you can find some deep-water classes, even better, because you won't be pushing off the floor of the pool, so it's even less stress on your knee.
  13. I am scheduled to have surgery July 6th...and I have been reading these boards for tips and hints. One thing that I read in the frequently asked questions is about exercise. It's recommended you start walking ASAP. Last year I tore the meniscus on my right knee, had surgery....but it is still very painful. My doctor told me weight loss would definitely help it! So my question is this....what are some other ways to exercise for anyone that walking isn't an immediate option? I have a recumbent stationary bike. I guess I'm pre-worrying, because I am SO ready to do this! I'm very excited/anxious, and the one thing that I see over and over that seems to help people be successful is walking. My doctor told me that even losing 40 pounds will diminish the pain and make long walks a realistic goal! I just want to make sure I can get to a 40 pound loss!!! Thanks in advance! Doji

    Am I just odd?

First off congrats!!! Not odd at all. I think most could do it if they put their minds to it and kept a positive attitude. I've lost 138 pounds since September and didn't even have surgery until March when I was already 95 pounds down. I did not get banded to lose weight. I can do that on my own. I got banded as a failsafe because sooner or later I will slip and I want it there to slow my decent. It looks like yours may be playing the same role.

    Insurance Hoopla

I also have Aetna; had to complete the 6 month medically supervised diet, and also submit 3 years of medical records to document my weight history. The surgeon's practice required the psych eval and the nutrition education. It was alot of hoops to jump through, but totally worth it...

10 weeks post open & trying different foods

Well, the deal with salt is that it makes you retain water -- so you've got all this excess water weight, which is just FLOATIN AROUND INSIDE OF YOU. It's something you'll probably lose if you cut down on salt [and I mean, lose it practically overnight]. (:
  17. I had my lapband surgery in May of 2009. I lost 35 lbs. prior to surgery, and 26 lbs. after surgery. I've had a total of 5/6 lapband fills. But I am having alot of concerns about progress with my weight loss, along with eating issues. Would love to have someone to connect with that I could get feedback concerning issues with the lapband procedure.

  19. I agree with all comments! but just a few..my best friend my hubs who has believed in me since day 1 we have been married 15 yrs an he seen me at my worst. He is my biggest fan an supporter. He takes me to my app's an we have fun together. the road I was on with over 12 dx's if it hadn't been for 2 of my specialist referring me to WLS an supporting me 6 months ago I would have been bigger an not 94 pds lighter! my endocrinologist told me without this tool even with all the legit efforts the weight was not coming off. it was a blessing for me thats for sure. I dont care if I dont eat like a so called "NORMAL" person portions..thats what got me where I was..society does NOT focus on healthy protions! an its obvious. I eat to live. not live to eat. I dont allow social scenes that all they focus on is having a great time around food an drinks. But I have learned that I can still be social without having all the conversations around food! this tool an the pre education that we get before you are even qualified to have it (at least I was) the education an evaluations were alot of time an learning put in. I learned alot. I did this for me. an I am soo grateful my hubs supports me 1000% ...mentally I have changed emotionally I have changed. my self confidance is back ( although I still get dressed an undressed alone) haha...not used to this new body form yet. working on it! I was fat for so long it takes some time to adjust. (just me) but I am proud of what I have accomplished. an I couldnt have done it without my medical team supporting me an backing me up. I knew going in this there could be issues. its major! I was willing to take that chance I was not about to waste another day depressed, fat an in victim mode. 10 yrs of therapy an still do see phsycologist that helps me with the new me perspective. most of all I thank my God my creator Jah for giving me the endurance an strength to get this far in life an sustaining us an for the love me an the hubs share. (yea I got sappy) oh well!! being honest ppl! Im out of the spiraling dark hole an seeing light an enjoying it again an I am 51 an feeling like our life together is even going to better then ever now an in the new order to come ! sorry so winded got going on a roll here..lol..

    Stalling

It will pass;-) I promise...it happens to so many of us around 2-3 weeks...once your body realizes your not gonna starve it to death it will relax and start letting go of the weight again..I considered a liquid diet again at that stage....and then..just like that...the scale started moving again..hang in there!

    Band to sleeve in Mexico

I am in the same boat as it relates to band and weight. I am going to use Dr.Carlos Altamirano in Mexico through BariatricPal eventually. I am having to save up. My insurance does not cover Bariatrics either.
  23. Am on the soft foods since thu and while I have no problem at all eating I am so hungry on the 1000 calories….all I can think about is food Will start real food either fri or sat and wonder if it will be better I go back for my first fill on sep 23 and am worried that I won’t lose any weight by then and worried that the ten pounds I lost post surgery will be back\ It still hurts if a press on the incision sites and sometimes I get a slight pain in my rights side especial when I walk a lot or have to go to the bathroom
  24. Sadly, it's just part of the process. You will see small (2-3) pound gains here and there.
