  1. I had my surgery Feb of 2013. At first all was going well, I never felt any restriction, I didn't have any complications. My progress went great at first, until I started back on solid foods. I didn't have problems adjusting to a solid food diet afterwards, and little by little I started eating a bit more, and a bit more. I guess I've pretty much just hit a wall as far as the surgery is concerned. I didn't follow through like I should have, so instead of the usual "surgery failed me" posts, this is my "I failed my surgery" plea for any assistance. I had surgery with Dr. Kim in Colleyville, and after recent contacts from his staff as well as their "awesome" support group leaders, it appears unless I have a revision surgery I'm on my own with getting back on track. I've put on about 30 pounds back, I started at over 400 and I'm sitting around 330 right now, so there was some success, I'd just like to get back on track and get to my overall goal weight of 260. Anyone been in this position before, and what did you do to start things back up? I'm working out, I hike about 10-15 miles a week, and I mountain bike 20-25 miles a week (just started back up). I carry a pretty good amount of muscle mass from my powerlifting days, but have recently retired from competitive lifting so I'm not lifting as heavy weights, or as often.

    Revision surgeons

My surgeon is amazing. I love his staff and him. I know he does revision surgery. I not sure what accommodations are available For out of town patients. I am in Tampa fl. I don't know if that is close enough for you. His name is Dr. Richard S Gordon Tampa bay surgical group llc.
  3. @@kelbug1990 I thank you so much for posting this. I hope that anyone who uses the search function for the "molina" finds your encouraging story. I have been so scared that the sleeve is just another of those experiments, but so far so good! (I was a BioEnterics lapband to sleeve revision and have done just awesome) i am happy for you that you have found success and RELIEF. I used to be scared of the bypass, but now i see it way differently. There is a reason it is considered the gold standard.
  4. It usually takes some time before you start losing with a lap band because you have to wait to get enough fills put in... With bypass you lose weight at first but then it slows down (it is slower for us with a revision). You need to remember it's just a tool. You will not be successful unless you have good choices in food and exercise. It is easy to get full on lower calorie foods and not eat much, that is the plus! I love sweets (ice cream) but it makes me feel horrible (headache, tiredness, dumping) so I choose not to eat them or foods with high fats. If I do eat the higher calorie foods the weight stays on. It will work but it will be up to you. You are not a failure! Dig deep and find your determination.
  5. I am having my surgery June 12th with him. He did my band 10 years ago and will now do my revision. I am excited and scared! It would be great to go through this experience together. Where r u from? I am in Indiana.
  6. I had gastroplasty 22 years ago, which is almost the same as band. I am having a revision to bypass in 3 weeks. I lost a lot of weight and have only gained about 35 back but I am fat still so I don't consider it a success. My mesh has eroded and I can eat some things but not others. It seems like my stomach handles junk food just fine and rejects healthy meals. It is really weird but I get lots of reflux and major stomach issues. I am excited about the revision too but I also feel like I will be a failure again. Trying to stay positive. It is a new lease on life!! And health!!
  7. Thank you for your posts. I am having surgery with him on June 12th And its good to hear of others experiences. He did my band 10 years ago and is now doing my revision. I am also an RN so I loved hearing your point of view. I do speak Spanish though so I will be asking for those guantes!! LoL please keep us posted on your progress.

    Overweight! Including Progress Pics

My plastics were definitely one of the best decisions I ever made. Even with my weight re-gain and re-loss. Definitely wish I had been sleeved first, and never re-gained, but hindsight is 20/20. I'm so glad my tummy tuck held up so well. It makes me feel amazing to have my tight, flat stomach now. Give me motivation to do all my core strength training so I can get more defined abs. It's awesome. The boobs didn't hold up as well through the weight re-gain and re-loss. They were fine on the way up, but on the way back down the left implant has become malpositioned and I both are looking a little sad and saggy. I'm in talks with my surgeon to have a revision done sometime this summer, hopefully.

    Band to Sleeve

I received my Lapband in 2007 and went from 305 to 185 until last summer. I had many problems with reflux and had a revision surgery. Unfortunately, I had gained back 15ish pounds before surgery. I have now gained a total of 35, back at 220 and depressed beyond measure. Since my surgery, my mom passed away and I it has been extremely hard to adjust. My sister and I had been her caregivers for the 8 years since her stroke. Our lives revolved around her care and now she's gone. I can't seem to get back on track. I also can't see myself going into the doctor one more time as a weight loss failure, after a lifetime of doing so. I am 54 and I think that even makes it harder. I haven't given up, but I am definitely in a funk I need to fight my way out.

    Recovery time?

Hello all! I'm getting my lap band removed on April 14 (after having it for almost 8 years). No revision surgery. Any of you who had the same, could you please share your recovery experiences? I was planning on going back to work on the 20th. Thanks!!

Help! Kaiser or Anthem BC (in California)?

Just a quick update... I'm going to stick with WLA. It's just closer and linked to my home hospital, Woodland Hills. Doctor will do the revision all at once. Since my band has been empty since August and my upper GI came back normal, he doesn't expect any issues once he goes in. I'll also have to go through the Options classes. I've accepted it and will go through the motions while I try not to gain any more weight. Plus I'm so crazy busy at work right now that I wouldn't know how to pass it off while I'm out. At least this way I can have a good plan in place. I expect to have surgery in August.
  12. I am hoping since the original post was 2011 your revision has been performed but it took me many years to find a doctor to help me out. I had the Molina band in 2003 by Dr. Molina. In 2006 I began having complications but at the time I wasn't aware it was band related. I would be woke up out of a dead sleep coughing and chocking on stomach acids. I just thought I had reflux. Now i know it was that I was forming an obstruction due to scar tissue from the band. I had severe chronic reflux and vomitting from the food not passing thru. I tried for several years to find a doctor to help me. Due to the high risk of this complication of the Molina band I attempted to see many doctors but they did not do Molina band revisions. I went to several others but my insurance did not have bariatric coverage but in reality I wasn't obese and the surgery was not for weight lose it was for a complication. I was almost completely obstructed when I finally remembered seeing Dr. Nowzardan from Houston on TV and I worked for a plastic surgeon previously that worked with Dr. Nowzaradan. I gave his office a call on a Friday and they got me in the next day on a Saturday and by Monday afternoon my surgery was approved and scheduled. His insurance girl was great. They knew the correct way to code it since it was not a bariatic surgery. I had a hiatal hernia repair, gastrectomy and gastrojejunostomy. So basically I had a hiatal hernia from years of throwing up so that was repaired. The gastrectomy was to cut the section out of my stomach that the band was adhered to and the gastrojejunotsomy was the gastric bypass. According to Dr. Nowzardan I was not a candidate for the sleeve gastrectomy and the only real option I had was gastric bypass surgery. Without him I do not know where I would be. Malnutrition for sure. I am going on 5 years since my bypass and it has been great. My weight stays within 138 to 145 over the past few years. Initially I got down to about 130 but then went up a few pounds after maybe the first two years. It's been the best thing for me. Other than dumping every so often I have no complaints. I have to take that back. I tend to be a noncompliant patient in regards to taking Vitamins so there are times I am Iron deficiant anemic but as long as I am taking my vitamins and supplements my levels are perfect. I hope this helps anyone that is suffering with issues from the Molina band.Angie

How long recovery from the removal?

Every patient and every surgeon is different. I had a band, revision of band, band removal and finally the sleeve. Not trying to make u nervous but I had the most pain after removal. The surgeon said it's is because of a large amount of scar tissue that forms around the band and port that needs to be removed. I did go back to work after 3 days but still had pain for a week or two.

    Reversal

Hello I am going through the same thing. I had the sleeve 5 years ago and due to acid reflux and my esophagus was collapsing I had to have a revision to the bypass 14 months ago . I'm a 105lbs now and want to stop losing. I have been having issues since I had the revision. I just had a pick line in that I gained 20lbs and 3 weeks later it was gone. At first it was diarrhea and now its vomiting. I seemed to can't get a break. I felt great with the pick line in but that is dangerous walking around with a IV in your arm feeding you dripping over your heart. My gallbladder was taken out on 2/9/15. I just had my 3rd EDG on Monday since my surgery and they found nothing again. I am trying to stay positive but this is getting very hard and expensive. So I know what you are going through but because I had the sleeve and then revised to the bypass I can not have the reversal due to my stomach was thrown away. I am so malnourished and now they want to put me back on the pick line (TPN) again. I don't know what to do anymore. I am miserable.

  16. Well my shake is 30 grams of protein, so two of those is 20 grams more protein than 2 quest bars. Right now I am eating 3 meals a day and two protein Snacks. I think I probably need to eat mostly meat for my meals because my stomach capacity is about 3 ounces of food per meal before I feel too full and I do try and include vegetables as often as I can. So usually I have about 1.5-2 ounces of meat and then some veggies. I guess.. and I never thought I would say this, I'm eating too many vegetables. My goal for protein is 80 grams/day. But I revised that recently after reading a post here to 80-100/day. My problem, really, is that I don't always calculate protein before eating, or even before the end of the day. So I think I just need to pay closer attention and make sure to have at least one shake per day. Like yesterday, for two of my meals I had shrimp, but I only had 4 large shrimp at each meal and MFP tells me that's only 4.6 grams of protein/meal. Whoops! My total protein for yesterday was 61 and that was after going home and having an extra snack to bring it up from 51. I left one of my bars at home so that was even more disastrous than usual. But if I hadn't forgotten and eaten the bar, by the time I got home I would have still only been at 71 grams and 9 away from goal.

    FAILED GASTRIC SLEEVE SURGERY

I agree, from what I've been reading the best option for revising after the sleeve if anyone is looking to go that route is the MGB, I'm tentatively scheduled for this in April.

    FAILED GASTRIC SLEEVE SURGERY

Also, if you are considering more surgery, you may want to look into revising to bypass rather than making your sleeve smaller. There are a lot of people with sleeves on these boards who end up revising to bypass (I'm not saying the sleeve doesn't work for lots of people!) It seems you still have a lot of weight you want to lose and that may work for you better.
  19. I'm glad you are feeling good, I had my band removed last month, but no revision surgery yet. My doctor wants my stomach to heal first, I don't know how long it will take? I had similar damages done to my stomach, but I had fever for about two months, first I thought it was just a flu, but my fever was not going away even with the antibiotics. I had a pain by my port area. After the surgery all my wounds started to get infected, not a nice thing. How long it took you to heal after the removal and how long you waited to have the revision surgery, any problems?
  20. I just started a program working towards a revision surgery from band to bypass. I'm so scared I'm going to fail again. I initially lost about 30 pounds with the band but have gained all of it back. I know I failed for lots of reasons. Basically, I can't eat a lot of dense protein without getting majorly stuck and throwing up, when I do just a little I never feel satisfied, sometimes I can eat everything under the sun, and I have general issues with overeating. I'm going to a counselor to help me find coping mechanisms that don't involve food, so that's definitely something different than when I had the lapband. I also didn't loose very much or very fast with the lapbad, so it was hard to stay motivated to keep dieting. I'm committed to making life changes with the bypass, but I'm so nervous that I'll just fail again. I don't even want to tell anyone about this surgery until I'm actually successful. It's too embarrassing to fail twice! Anyone else have these thoughts?
  21. I am sorry that you are having a hard time when it comes to your weight loss. I am also a revision patient as well. I will keep you in my prayers and I wish you all the best.

Amazed at the damage the lap did...

@@sleeveee I was also devastated when I came out of surgery and he hadn't done a revision. He told me it was a 50/50 chance he wouldn't be able to do the revision in one surgery, due to me having the band for so long... he anticipated scarring, but couldn't predict the extent. I was so hopeful that it was still crushing. Like you had I also had a mess of stuff going on in there. My surgeon said he had "excavate through the scar tissue and follow the port tubing" to locate the port. Adhesions on the liver, scar tissue build up inside my stomach where the band was, etc... Scary. However, when I went 5 months later he was able to do the sleeve with no problems! In and out in 1 hour. I found the recovery from this very easy. The first 2-3 days after Sleeve surgery were bad, but it was all smooth from there out... Had the sleeve done on a Monday and went back to work the following Monday. Just know that your surgery date will be here before you know it, and this will all be in the rearview mirror!
  23. Just wanted you to know how sorry I am that you are having problems. I had mine done by Barker Bariatrics this past June and have not had any problems. The only time I am nauseated is when I eat too fast or too much. I am a revision but I am a slow loser.....I contribute it to my age. I will be praying for you and that your will regain a healthy life and have a fantastic happy future.
  24. I had the gastric sleeve 5 years ago and due to acid reflux and my esophagus collapsing I had to have a revision to the bypass which was 14 months ago (1/22/14). I had my surgery at Forest Park Medical Center in Dallas, TX Dr. Rodriguez (who isn't with Barker Bariatric anymore he opened his own practice and moved to San Antonio). I'm a 105lbs now and want to stop losing weight. I have been having issues since I had the revision. I just had a pick line(feeding tube) in that I gained 20lbs and 3 weeks later it's gone. At first it was diarrhea and now its vomiting. I seemed to can't get a break and it didn't start until about 6 months after the surgery. I felt great with the pick line in but that is dangerous walking around with a IV in your arm feeding you dripping over your heart. I just had my 3 EDG on Monday and they found nothing again. I had to spend another $300 for that. I am trying to stay positive but this is getting very hard and expensive. Needing someone to talk to.

    March WLS Check-in

I'm one week out, and feeling really good. I had trouble sleeping for a few days ( I had on open revision, so big incision). Once I got some sleep, I felt great, still a little sore, but not bad. I take some liquid Tylenol if my insides are feeling sore, or if I do too much, and that really helps. I use Nectar Fuzzy Naval watered down a little if I'm having trouble getting all my protein in. It counts as water, too. I hope you are all enjoying good health!
