StacyBee, an NSV is a NON SCALE VICTORY.

I'm sorry... I've seen the term "NSV" used several times lately, and I kinda get the gist of what it might mean, but what exactly is it? (A good thing either way, so congratulations on it! )

Congrats on the NSV. Doesn't it feel great!?

    Nsv Day

First of all I confess...I've been nibbling. Not terrible downfalls but enough to keep me on this plateau. So anyway the scale has gone way under the bed and is staying there 'til New Year. I don't intend this holiday to be a disaster but neither am I going to worry about it. Back to my theme...On Tuesday some new clothes I had ordered arrived and I confess when I put them on I was disappointed. The trousers were UK 28 (from a 32) and only semi elasticated but because they fit 'properly', all I saw was my belly- as usual. I had also bought a bustier and it was OK but didnt make me feel as 'sexy' as I'd hoped. THEN>>> Wednesday I went shopping to cheer myself up. Now I'm fitter I love shopping and poor hubby cringes each time I say I'm off out! I got my stepson to drop me off at the bottom of our long hill and NSV 1, I walked up it. I haven't done that ever before. I felt generally tired at the top but not in a state of collapse and if there had been more to do I know I could have continued. Part way up the hill I was looking in a window and I saw someone wanted to pass. The pavement is narrow and so I moved right to one side...nothing! I looked behind me and there was no-one there. The legs I'd seen in the window were mine...legs I'd seen as skinny, normal legs were mine in my jeans. NSV 2. I decided to buy a shawl to cover up my shoulders and arms in the bustier. I went into a shop that sells these things and saw this gorgeous, cute woollen bollero- one size fits all. HA! It's always been one size fits- all except me. I looked at it on the hanger and mentally assessed it...then I bought it. Got it home and it not only fits beautifully, it looks good and now when I wear the top I feel very sexy indeed. NSV 3. Once I can lose some weight off my lower belly/hip area then I know I'm going to be a clothes addict. And so yes, I haven't been as good as I should have been but I'm going to enjoy this holiday without going beserk and then I'm going to make this 100lbs 150 and then 175...role on 2007 and more NSV's. Happy Holidays Everyone xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!! TGIF!!!!! I am with Betty - wishing my life away - at least the next four hours or so..... I am more than ready for the Christmas Weekend. I have only the gifts for my Sister's family to wrap and then I am DONE. I have all the other miscelaneous items signed, sealed and delivered. Tonight - we are taking the S & BIL out for dinner - since they have been feeding us delicious curry for weeks, now. After that - I have two glorious days with my darling DH. We have both been sick and are now feeling better so we are going for some serious quality time. :guess I don't plan on too much stuff like "wearing clothes" or "leaving the house" this weekend. I guess I will have to rouse myself enough to shower and dress for Christmas Day...since I am going to my Sister's house and I don't want to scare the children. Patty, Love - I hope you got all your craziness packed up and in the car to go to your Mom's. Hugs!! I hope you get a minute or two of peace this weekend. Don't fret over the letter thing. I warned you - they need you to harass them.... Just start calling every 10 minutes after you get back from your Mom's. xo Chris - What?!? You cook for Thanksgiving AND Christmas??!?! I want to be related to YOU. :] Eileenie - you can't see that Grinch too many times. It's like "It's a Wonderful Life" Mandatory. Betty - xo - I am just not going to worry too much about the sugar intake for the next few days. I know my Sister baked all her gifts this year.... she said something about Lemon Bars... and I have more than a small weakness for Lemon Bars... *sigh* Mary - It sounds like you guys are taking advantage of your snowy weather. I haven't played in the snow for like a hundred years... or at least 25...I think I was in high school the last time.... Congrats on the complete LACK of an Asthma attack! What a great NSV! Well - to all of you that have posted and to all of you that haven't... MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!! May your Holiday be as bright as the star that shone that night so long ago. Love and Hugs!
  6. WOW! I have survived another shift at the hospital. Chocolates, Cookies, cakes, etc everywhere! In between rounds I sit in the lounge with collegues and the table in front of me is FULL, I mean FULL of all kinds of goodies I would have gone for last year. :faint: :clap2: This time...hmmmm I guess it is an NSV I sat there several times a day and did NOT have anything!! I went to the fridge and had only the food I brought to eat that day, plus a light yogurt! I am sure I am not the only one with this experience... how have you handled it? Tiny tastes? big bites? nothing at all? Xmas with my family I will try little tastes of everything.

Thanks Barbara, I'll get on photob and see what I can do. Glad to hear your NSV and that your are better. Poodles, we've missed you. All of us are placing high hopes for a fresh start on the 26th. You are not a failure. Your move is finally behind you, so you'll have time to concentrate on YOU. I'm anxious to tie up the loose ends and enjoy friends and family during the holidays! Do you have an eating trigger? DH is mine. He can really take on a stinky persona sometimes!

    Another NSV!!

I went Xmas shopping today and again I got second looks, pretend not to look at me looks (but the good kind), doors were opened for me, etc. Amazing how 22 lbs can change the way people around you behave. Also 3x is way too big now and some 2x are big, 1x seems to be fitting pretty good and even a regular XL seems fine depending on the style of top. I am so excited...I also can't believe alot of it has been will power since I do not have a fill yet. I guess small portions are making me happy anyway :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: Happy Holidays to All of you great people on this board...you have been a great source of information and support!!! :star:

    ABC - December chat

Good for you Josette!! I didn't want to let any of my family know I had the surgery, but unfortunately, mom and dad and hubby spilled the Beans. Pretty much everyone I've even known is now aware that I have the band. LOL!! I feel like a walking billboard for lapband surgery. Just today I saw my Uncle and cousing for the first time in a couple months. The first thing they said is, "So how much?" I told them and they were so happy for me. At least my family is really supportive. They aren't looking at me like, "is that it?" I did notice that, although they don't say anything, they do watch everything that goes into my mouth. I had coffee and put a teaspoon of sugar in it and my uncle asked why I didn't use sweet n low. I told him I don't like sweet n low, I like splenda and there isn't any here. I had to explain that a teaspoon of sugar isn't gonna ruin everything. Oh and I had a really good NSV today. I finally fit into my favorite pre-baby jeans! I started out at a size 30 and these are a 22! A 22!!! I almost died when I buttoned and zippered them without a problem!!:clap2:

    Rewards!

Okay, I will start by saying I'm a 48 year old, educated and for the most part, demure woman....but I think one of my favorite NSV's will be .... when a man bumps into me because he is trying to cop a feel, not just because my ass is in his airspace.... ....sigh....I am but weak flesh.... :faint: ...cat

    Tips for a new runner?

Hi, All those ideas above are great. Use a marker like the poles to run 1, walk 1 until you push it a bit and run 2, walk 1. Keep going like that. I started running with my trainer in June and that is how we started for a while. Then, I would walk up the trail, which was 1.5 miles and run all the way down. Then, it was 2 miles. I was at two miles for a while and yesterday, we were running on the treadmill because it was cold outside. I didn't look at mileage, just kept the option on pace. We were having an "easy run" day because my hips were feeling sore. I didn't keep looking at the distance and ran 3 miles without stopping at all! I kept an easy pace of 4.5 mph and actually, I could have run further! This is a HUGE NSV for me, always a non-runner before! I'm really proud of myself. I realized also that I was limiting myself thinking "I can run 2 miles." I think it really helped me break thru that mental set I had/have! It's addictive! Enjoy!!!

hi ladies - Nat - yes I was also very dry and kept feeling like I was catching a cold - which by now I think I would have caught - its been a week! I'm still blowing the boogers - and the cough - was it you who asked? well thats good, a cough clears the lungs of all the anthesia, and I also would think that the little bit of blood was just from the tube or being dry. I was soooooo dry mouthed after the surgery I never felt like I'd rehydrate again. Sweethot - nice to hear from you hon! I never had a pump either, but they gave me shots of it in the iv whenever I asked. I'm not a pillpopper normally and I think I have a high pain tolerence because I only took liquid tylenol 2-3 times, I never fill the script from doc. I never have pain now - now I itch. All around my incisions - itchy itchy itchy - think I'm gonna call dr to see if I can put some hyrocoritizone...(sp? lol ) cream on or around them. Support groups are good - I only went once pre-op - last month - and there were a few banded but most are waiting to be banded. BC/BS local is highmark and they haven't approved the band here so they are all fighting it. I guess my doc is quite the advocate, the lady who had surgery with me said he fought it for 14 months - and used his own lawyers! Not sure thats norm or not but dang he's cute!!! - (Steph <---- still crushing doc Marley) Back to support groups - tonight is one and we are to bring a holiday dish (so I guess it kinda a Christmas party) I'm making sf lime Jello, sf strawberry jello, with coolwhip FREE - I thought I would layer it in a clear glass bowl so it looks all christmassy and pretty. I can actually eat it too - its part of the liquids. Nat you should go - don't worry about fat guy from work - LOL - you're too dang funny!!! I love ya! If he is there just say hey and tell him you'd really like to keep it quiet that you've had the surgery. He might lose the weight and come back as Erik on the biggest loser - omgoodness!!! Who'd have thought such a hunk was inside there? Ok - so a small nsv - when I saw Charlie yesterday he said he can see the weight loss in my face - yippeeeee! Hubby always says I lose in my face first - scale it telling me 15lbs so far - but 8 of it was pre-op and btw did I tell you when I went to doc to look at my incisions (cuz my tape came off 3 days out) I was only down 5 lbs? Yeah I was like WTF - as Nat would say.. lol ... but it must do with the procedure, PA said they don't normally weigh until 2 weeks. I'm not changing my ticker until I get on the dr's scale. mystique - I haven't said hi for a while - hi - sounds like you're doing good. I'm still using the heating pad for my shoulder - its getting better everyday. kari - I was tired alot too - and then on Sunday - 6 days out I finally got over it. Ok tv viewers - why is there nothing on tv interesting during the day? I don't even bother flipping through 400 channels anymore - and what about reading? Anyone read a book lately? I am a BIG reader - like a book a week or more - and I haven't been able to focus on reading since a month before surgery. Do you think its just the excitement of being banded? My only reading comes from LBT. Love ya girls!

    April 2006 Bandits December Challenge

We yesterday was a great day for me. I really hit a NSV and as well, my christmas goal. My dream was to go snow shoeing with my family, something I could not do at 358 lbs. Well... yesterday I did. It was a crisp, clear arctic day. The sky was purple and the air cyrstaline. I snowshoed for 40 minutes with my gang and it was wonderful. As well... it counts towards my exercise. So... I am happy and I am going strong (at least today!!) Dawn Banded April 4th, 2006 Montreal

Barbara465, Hope you are better by now. I am feeling restriction in spurts. Maybe new fills take time to "get even" all the way around the band? Maybe your margarita loosened the band. Maybe the fun of the luncheon tightened your band (there is good tension too). When I am out with others, I always drink a hot drink before I eat anything. I haven't had a bad spell since doing that. (Hot tea is such a treat for me) I'm still struggling with my back, but the l.5 pounds I lost on Wednesday are still gone so that's a big NSV.

'Clothes too big' my NSV Pics

Hi ya all I just had to share these pictures with you....one of my NSV (Non Scale Victory) was going down a size or two or three...i wanted to show you these pictures of me in my clothes that are now far to big!!! I would love to see anyone elses pictures, so if you have any, please share! becky
  22. YEAH, JULIE!!!! That is tremendous news! Do you ever pinch yourself to see if it is true? Every time I use a cardio machine at the gym and have to input my weight, I have to stop and think, "Is it 186, no, 176...? Oh, yeah, it's 166!!!!" I'm in denial and am surprised to look in the mirror. NSV: I bought size 10 jeans yesterday! The 12's that I bought in September are getting too loose. :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: On the way down, my thighs and rear are smaller because of the running. Julie, I need you to get on my case over crunches. I HATE them, but my gut needs work. Anyone else have suggestions how to help the roll above the jeans? (low-waisted kind) Bluehill: How are you doing??

    May Bandsters~December Chat!

Oh Drewslou you look fabulous!!! Congrats on the half way!!! I have yet to get my friend to my house to help me get my photos posted. We both work retail and we never seem to have the same time off right now. But hopefully soon I will get them out there for everyone to see. I had another NSV last night. Our town has an old carousel located at a park that is decorated with lights and animated characters for a few weeks before Christmas. We went to the park last night after caroling about town and I rode a HORSE on the carousel!!! I have gone on the ride and stood or sat on a bench but never on a horse! What fun! I seem to be stuck for about 2 weeks. I really need to lose 4 lbs to get to my next goal. With any luck, maybe it will happen this next week.
