  1. Not really. Activities at home: walk 2 miles 6 days a week, work out with personal trainer 2 days a week, ride my horse 45 minutes 3-5 days a week (really moving, not just trail walking). Oh, and all this with a heat index of 105-108 this week! Activities while at Mom & Dad's: croquet (not a real high-powered game), shopping, standing around at cocktail parties, walking up & down stairs a couple of times a day, maybe walking up & down a steep driveway a couple of times. Avg temp: 75 degrees. I don't think they really compare. I guess I just need to adapt the lifestyle of Mom & Dad's house (and learn to cook!) because I'd much rather spend my time shopping and eating pie than all the workouts I do at home, especially when I lose more weight! (sarcasm alert!) Or maybe I just need to move there. But really, it is very puzzling and frustrating!
  2. Ok I am gonna rant for a moment I am happy for those people who loose weight on the show but........... Ok where do I begin if I did not have to pay bills and just could work out all day I could drop the weight like that too! Then comes the lifestyle change of life that a successful journey has they all gain a lot of weight back because unless you are a personal trainer or too rich you don't have to work its not realistic. Second a lot of the girls on there was wearing some type of corsit the way their boobs was sticking out ove the slim abs and curves that does not help uneducated people who watch the show. Then look at sam he reached his goal weight the competition the score the percentage of excess weight that you lost for u to win the competition.

i also think it is unreal, plus they edit a bunch of things we don't get to see. they only show us the pretty stuff.....it's nice to see how people lose weight and it is motivating besides the fact we know that experience is pretty unreal.

    the biggest loser

I agree. While I enjoy watching the show to an extent, I honestly feel like they are just exploiting fat people, and pushing their products. I feel the same way about Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig. It's all about marketing and their products. I was highly disgusted when they made this year's contestants weigh-in in front of their peers, family, friends, and even perfect strangers that just wanted a chance to get on TV. It sickened me. I just kept thinking to myself "great not only have these people been fat most of their lives, and had to live with the shame of obesity, now you want them to get up in front of their family, friends, and millions of TV viewers topless or with a little sports bra and spandex on and step on a scale, way to go BL producers". I read somewhere last year that about 60% of the contestants gain back their weight plus some. Even the guys had on some sort of bodyshaper. You could see it under their shirts at just the right angle. It is unrealistic, and while some of them may be able to keep it off, and make a true lifestyle change. The true statistics behind their methods are not in the contestant's favor. I already told myself I'm not watching the new show that Jillian has coming soon. I really dislike her. I hate how she berates the contestants then attempts to be miss nice counselor when she sees them breaking down, and tries to soothe their emotional woes. Her little speeches on self-worth and self-love make me want to hurl. I did watch her on the day time show The Doctors a couple days a go, and I wanted to strangle her. And, her "products" are not that fabulous, and in my opinion no different that Metabolife, and other faddy type crap that she's whoring out to America's obese. Sorry, I really, really dislike her LOL. She's also admitted that she refuses to get pregnant because she's not willing to screw up her figure? Now, I haven't confirmed that yet, my husband was telling me he read an article about it and had her quoted. It could have come from US Weekly for all I know, but she just makes my skin crawl. I don't care that she doesn't want babies, but to say "it's about my looks" what does that tell Americans and especially teenage girls that look up to her. End Rant.

Take a deep breath and relax. Think of all the health benefits you will gain. Think on how great life will become for you after. It is so worth it to dwell on the positive.

How Can People Not See It?

You know... I thought of the same thing. I work in a nursing home where Im in contact of peers, patients, and their family members on a DAILY basis. If I wear a different shirt, someone has something to say about it (LOL), So I know when the weight falls off, and Im not around grazing at the pot lucks, or birthday parties, people may (or may not) have comments or questions....

How Can People Not See It?

I am a teacher as well and had sleeve surgery over the summer. While I am pretty open with people who comment about my weight loss and the whole school staff knows, I didn't get a lot of comments either .I am positive my students (2nd grade) didn't notice me melting away right in front of their eyes. Very few parents commented. A few did. I I have lost 78 pounds in the past year and I am just a few pounds from my goal. Now more people are commenting. Just enjoy your weight loss! Soon, people will notice how great you are looking. I remember thinking I wish I realized how little people noticed my body before I lost weight. I was sure everyone noticed every pound I gained. I was obsessed worrying what people were thinking about me! I am sure you are looking better and better each day! Enjoy your weight loss!

How Can People Not See It?

I lost 75 pounds many years ago and from that experience I know it takes a long time for you to see weight loss in yourself. Taking regular pics can help though. For some reason, it is easier to see our own weight loss in pics.
  9. As someone above mentioned some cleaners may take in items inexpensively. Just a thought for some of your less expensive items. Good luck- yes it's a great problem to have! Thankfully I have a lot of items I couldn't part with front he last time I lost weight so I have clothes from size 12-16. I have a great friend who had a lot of professional high end clothing that she gave me size 16-18- I was a large 16, 2xl tops when I started and I'm already giving away the larger clothing and moving into some of my regular 16's. Today I am wearing a blouse that I loved but only had worn a couple of times because the arms were too tight. It feels very good I can't wait until I can pull out my 14's! 25 pounds down today! How Can People Not See It?

sometimes people are sensitive about their weight so others don't mention it. I have gained 69lbs over the last school year only a few mentioned how much weight I have gained. Others didn't mention it at all which has made me feel much better. Take it as a compliment that they may want to respect your privacy. Or maybe they don't want to acknowledge your success.

    Calories 1 year post op

At a year out I was still eating about 1000 calories but I want to echo what @Smanky said that this has a lot to do with your height, current weight, goal weight, biological sex, and your activity level and will be different for everyone. I am personally a 4'10" woman with a medium activity level, so obviously if you're taller, a man, more active, etc you need more than that.

    Calories 1 year post op

That's tricky without your current height and weight and the goal you're wanting to reach, as there's no universal answer. You can work out your calories for loss with this online calculator: https://www.calculator.net/calorie-calculator.html It does metric and imperial, and can give you a deficit to reach goal as well as maintenance calories.
  14. HeatherO

    Hey damnit!

I guess I can join in now . . . at four pounds to goal . . . until a few more months pass and a gain a few pounds due to being preggers, lol. Goal is awesommmeeee . . . and now I know I can get there.

    Sex after surgery

I don't think it's frowned upon, but I do think the answer would vary greatly from person to person. So many factors to consider, like relationship things and such. Of course self esteem has a lot to do with satisfaction. While I look forward to losing weight I worry about the excess skin that comes with that. Not that my husband will care, nothing turns him off like ever. But I think about it. Go on Youtube and you can watch lots of video blogs about weight loss (from surgery and otherwise) There are a couple (Clusie L is one of them) who discuss sex, relationships, etc after weight loss. Again, this is a complex issue. I am pre-surgery anyway, hopefully others will chime in???? Dub always has great answers

    No Weight Loss--like at all

Let me start by saying that I was told to have this surgery because of autoimmune medical issues and side effects of steroids NOT that I was an overeater. The whole journey to approval was doctors saying that this is hormonal and less so a result of behavior. I gained 40 pounds on 2 weight loss medications. I'm not really eating meals or solid or pureed foods. My post op plan says to consume 3 protein shakes/day and I usually only get one. I don't usually get 800 because I can't tolerate anything. I'm vegetarian and am making an effort to eat mostly protein with low calorie/fats. Pre-op I lost 15 pounds in 2 weeks on a liquid diet of fewer than 800 calories. AND I WAS NEVER HUNGRY--EVER! Now I dread eating and never feel that full feeling--just sick. I feel more hunger now. I feel better when I don't eat, so I hardly ever do. I was told only walking. No other exercise is allowed. I walk a lot since I live in NYC. I still have severe pain in my umbilical incision with certain movements. So, I actually don't eat 800 calories/day, however, that is extremely calorie restricted and should result in weight loss even without the surgery.
  17. Welcome all to "Bandsters Hell" During my entire weight loss experience with the band, this phase was definitely the hardest time of all...not to mention frustrating. My first fill was 4 week after surgery...after my first fill, I started to GAIN weight. I can't begin to say how upset I was, all the preparation and anticipation for nothing! To add insult to injury, the staff at the bariatric center started giving me handouts and lectures about counting calories, measuring portion sizes, and all these little self help do's and don'ts to help me stay on track.... I've been on every diet imaginable over my lifetime, know them all inside and out...and what they were telling me was no different! That really got me angry!! I did not need weight loss surgery just so I can do all that again! You think I wanted to have this surgery if I felt I didn't need it??? I'm going to say somewhere 4-6 months after surgery, a few fills later, a lot of hard lessons learned the hard way, (stuck, sliming, pain) and it all started to fall into place.... One year after surgery and I could say it was the EASIEST, most EFFORTLESS thing I could have ever done to make sch a major lifestyle change in myself... I learned to let the band be the band and to get out of it's way... learned to "Listen: to the band" and follow it's lead. Four years later and it is still Heaven! And it keeps getting better as I keep accepting this new way of living..
  18. Hoping for the green zone soon! I got my first fill on Jan. 27th and went from a small feeling of restriction to zero restriction. It seems like the fill took me backwards. I'm hoping my second fill March 2nd will get me closer to the green zone. I made the mistake of being transparent about the procedure and now I'm slightly embarrassed that the weight is not coming off and that I can eat normally. I need restriction which is why I got the band - to help. Thanks to everyone for sharing that it may take up to 5 months. Hate to hear that, but at least I know it's not just me and that it's the process. I do get on the scale every other day. I'm fluctuating between 12 and 16 pounds post-surgery Dec. 16th.

    3rd fill same weight?

Don't be discouraged, took me 8 months to get restriction. I had my surgery on 9/10/12. Gained and lost 10 lbs off and on. I have a 14 cc realize band. I have 10.5 cc in my band.
  20. I'm two weeks too and I can totally relate. I can now get the Protein in by starting the day with decaf coffee with 1/2 scoop unjury vanilla Protein powder. One scoop is 20g protein but I prefer taste with half scoop. I drink protein shakes or have Greek yogurt almost every day. Sometimes if really having desire for something with weight to it, will add full scoop of Unjury cheese sauce powder to grits or mashed potatoes but liken others have said, I try to avoid carby stuff. One scoop of the cheese sauce is 20g. I also add the fruit punch flavored protein shots to sugar-free fruit punch/crystal light/watered down Gatorade. Protein shot is 25g. It's the only way I can tolerate protein shots. The rest that I tried I found to be pretty yucky. We can do this! Some days I feel like I have worked so hard to get the protein in and then realize I did it but only ate 200-300 cal. Feels like a lot of work but totally worth it! Hang in there...

    Minneapolis Surgeons

Hi - I have Dr. Ikramuddin at the Univ. of Minnesota. i've been very happy with him. From a medical standpoint, the U is the best in the cities. I have heard that the U is not the best in terms of support, but I have had a really excellent experience overall. My primary doc recommended him and I have to say I am very very pleased. The double standard

Haha. My license has been renewed so many times that I actually finally weigh about what it says on my license: 180. Which was a lie: I'm sure I actually weighted around 200. But you can bet I never once heard anyone say "Man you have gained weight since you got that license"!! Lynda

    Disappointed And A Little Sad

I still see myself as "the fat chick" too. I am just now starting to realize that I'm "normal fat" instead of "super fat." One thing in your post struck me... "I'm annoyed and angry that my mom still looks at me when I eat and I can "see" her butt hole clench." Sounds like maybe you need to avoid your mom! You have to eat to live and you're not overeating these days (and probably not eating junk food with your excellent weight loss). Good luck, Robyn

    Disappointed And A Little Sad

I hope you will read what I'm going to say, and understand that it comes from a place of love, caring, and concern (and based entirely on my impression of the comments you posted)... You have more going on, psychologically, than not losing weight "fast enough". My suggestion would be to reach out to your surgical program, and ask to speak with their therapist. If they don't have one on-staff (I'm making an assumption, based on my own experience, that they would), finding a therapist to help with your ingrained self-esteem issues might be helpful. You need to rediscover all the reasons for which you are worthy of being loved....especially by yourself. Self-love will give you the strength to face the rest of the world without feeling the need to concern yourself with the thoughts of others (even including your mother). So many of us have been taught to hate ourselves...because we were too "fat," or because of some other reason (most often imposed by those around us). The process of losing weight, and becoming healthier, ends up being about so much more than just "losing weight"!! In the end, the amount of weight you've already lost is wonderful...truly!! Don't allow those niggling voices get the better of you....don't allow them to derail the progress you've made! I wish you nothing but success, and peace of mind! Laura
