    please guide me about timings

You mentioned milk shakes. Do you mean protein shakes that are say 250 calories with 30 g of protein or a dessert milkshake? Also for mushies what kind? At three weeks I was allowed to have low/non fat cottage cheese or ricotta. At week four when I could add shredding chicken I mixed it with low fat laughing cow cheese much better than mayo.
  2. I remember how hard the pre-op diet was and I only had to do it for 1 week! It was so much harder dealing with the mental hunger - harder than anything I dealt with post-op. What gave me the ability to lose 10 lbs in 7 days was eating almost no carbs. I drank low-carb Protein shakes and when I just had to have some real food, I only ate pork loin or chicken breast. It's tough to get past those carb cravings, but after 2 or 3 days they go away. If you have to have something sweet, try sugar free Jell-O or sugar free Popsicles. Wishing you the good luck.

    Pacificare Oklahoma and Healthyroads?

Hi, I had to complete the six months of healthy roads telephone coaching. For me it was a half hour once a week. The coach just asked how you did with diet and excercise the previous week. A big waste of time if you ask me. If you think about it, it was only two hours a month for SIX months.

    Stale

Completely normal.actually it would be strange if you didn't stall at this point.you wereloaded with normal saline to keep you hydrated in the hospital.your swollen and retaining fluids inside still.i wouldnt weigh until a month post op for those reasons.when your stall breaks you may lose a pound a day for two weeks and stall again or lose three pounds stall a week later lose a couple more pounds.i never lost consistently or lost daily.
  5. I am 4 months out and was going thru the same thing. I talked to my diatician and increased my calories to 1000-1100 because I wasnt eatting enough. I was constantly hungry and found myself snacking a lot. I started working out 5 days a week and my body was in starvation mode. Now I use my fitness pal and track every single thing that goes into my mouth and all of my activities. I have only one protien shake a day by primer protien bc its 30g of protien a day and only 1g of sugar. I love all their flavors. Usually I have it for breakfast with a greek yogurt. I also plan every single meal and snack for the day and put it in my fitness pal the day before. If its not in my lunch box or recorded in my fitness pal it doesn't touch my lips. Someone told me this and it has really been my montra and what keeps me so on track and dedicated to the daily planning: If you fail to plan you plan to fail. And since I have been living by this the last few weeks the scale has been finally moving.
  6. Nurse rosemary, You are not eating enough protein. And exercising too much. Need to increase caloric intake. And maybe change doctors! You should be treated with respect. What you have gone through is a trauma to your body, and you need support. A stall is quite common, just introduce new foods and it will help get you going again. Let me know how you are doing. Good luck.
  7. I didn't really feel normal until sometime a little after the 6 week mark. Since you're about there, hopefully it happens soon. I got my first energy boost at about 2 1/2 months. The last two weeks have been nice!
  8. I am 10 weeks post and a pound per day is above average. 2 to 5 per week is the normal range. Meaning you have done so amazing so far but a slowing down is to be expected. I have had 3 stalls and they are devastating. Follow your plan and things will happen. Exercise is very important. I think the holidays have been hard on everyone because of all the distractions. So glad to be looking at 2015 with a new focus

    Six Months Out

50 pounds is a major accomplishment! Way to go! How many weeks have u gone without seeing the scale move? Are ur clothes fitting differently? I exercise like crazy and am mindful about my cals. I hit stalls pretty often, but they usually break after the three week mark. Keep plugging away and try not to compare urself to others. U really are doing great! Sent from my iPhone using VST

My Surgery is In 4 Days/Food Addiction

I wouldn't call myself a food addict, but saying I have an effed up relationship with food is an understatement. I have been fat forever and was diagnosed by a therapist as having BED (binge eating disorder) earlier this year. I've never gone to OA, but I go to therapy for an hour and a half each week to work on the core issues that led me to morbid obesity. Is not food; it's me. After all, food never attacked and devoured me, it was the other way around. I really appreciate your honest post and I get where you are coming from. Food allowed me to feel in control or out of control. To feel decadent or gluttonous. Food never told me I was fat and it was always available. Both friend and enemy. .. or so I thought. I've learned that my perception is skewed and that I spent an awful long time trying to make discomfort comfortable. I cringe at the thought that I've been destroying myself forkful by forkful for the better part of my life. Getting down to some of the effed up messages that I believe about myself(my worth, self-image, shame, guilt) was where I began in therapy. I spent a couple of months pre-op working at digging in to those patterns so that I can recognize them for what they are and exchange them for new, productive ones. I'm about 3.5 weeks post-op. The hunger I experience is only in my mind now. It's scary sometimes to think about the forever aspect of this surgery, but the one day at a time concept fits well for me. I, too, wondered how I could ever change my ways. It's still surreal that I'm actually doing it! It feels great to be participating in the process of building myself up as opposed to the converse. Congratulations on your willingness to try something new; that is what recovery is all about ,doing things differently, finding new solutions to our problems. I'm certain you can do this.
  12. hi guys i have not made a post in quite a while i've been reading about everyone and you all are doing great. i'm still no closer to my sleeve but that's another story all together but i digress. i just had a general question for everyone, how much weight did you lose on your pre-op two week liquid diet. i'm just curious any feed back would be greatly appreciated. every one keep up the good work and i am so happy for everyone progress.

    Beginning in Montana

Welcome Twilight! I felt exactly as you have described before surgery - I think a lot of the people on this board have. But I knew I needed the band to use as a tool to not gain the weight back. I've been successful losing the weight in the past - but never successful at keeping it off. This was a big decision for me, but as my health continued to worsen, and my weight was still rising - I KNEW I had to do something different. I was banded on Nov 1st and have worked my way through 2 weeks of liquids and am now enjoying mushies. Reading through the threads on this board (old and new) helps me immensely - during research, pre-op and now post-op. There are some bandsters here that I "clicked" with (even though they don't know it! ) and I look for their postings and get lots of help and encouragement from them. What you are feeling is natural for anyone going to have surgery - but try to think about working with the band and being successful, and improving your health and quality of life. Best of luck to you!!

    Stress, newly sleeved

Caroline you are in my prayers. Please try drinking G2 or vitamin water, when I feel week drinking G2 and vitamin water helps me.
  15. Hi all new to site. Read a lot of info thanks to everyone sharing. Not sure if it's made me more anxious or calmer lol. Wondering if anyone wants to share their experience together i'm scheduled for next week dec 8th. Excited anxious nervous scared!! Just want it over with before I change my mind. Scared of the hair loss oh I probably could go on. Looking forward to doing things I haven't been able to do in a long time due to my weight. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  16. I was a very energetic person before surgery now getting out of bed can be a chore. 7 weeks post and 41 lbs down.any recommendations for getting energy up? Any good suggestions? Recipes? Thanks
  17. At 7 days post op I was told to change from 5 Protein drinks per day to 4 and add 1/2c. mash pot or applesauce and 1/2c. yogurt or pudding. So, I sort of moved into mushies at 1 week. I am only 2 weeks post op (banded 10/12) and am now fully on mushies. I saw my MD yesterday and he said for some people, swelling goes down really fast and they are hungry sooner than others. Don't worry about a thing. Be happy you have the o.k. to move to mushies. I do not think it means your band is not working. I think it means you are healing well. People keep telling me this stage is for healing (not weight loss).

    Weight gain?

Give it some time! I'm just over 3 months post op and I'm down 13 pounds. I just got my second adjustment last Friday so I am now sitting at 4CC and I think I couldn't take any more. I feel pretty restricted right now. I know I lost 12 lbs pretty quick post op, but then managed to fluctuate between a 10 and 8 lb loss...this week I've dipped down 4 pounds since my fill. I'm discovering that this is a very slow process and much of it is psychological for me. I am so used to eating larger portion and eating quickly. This band is reminding me that it's not possible anymore! Good luck!
  19. I'm one week post op and I've actually gained two pounds. Been on jello and shakes for two weeks. [emoji20]
  20. Hi. I was sleeved Feb.19. In the hospital 2 days no complications. Went back to work in a week. Everythig seems to be going well. I have lost 26lbs. I am a very impatient person and want this to happen like yesturday. I know it takes time though. I have been overweight for most of my adult life. I love this site. Everyone has great advice and when I am feeling like this is going to take forever I read everyones post and I seem to be where I should be. I do get hungry especially at night (I work nights) at around 9pm. I just drink my crystal light and suck it up. Well I guess I am done. Just wanted to introduce myself.

    Protein shake recommendations

I get mine from www.mercola.com The whey is made from GMO free, antibiotic free, hormone free, free range grass fed beef. no artificial anything. If you are lactose intolerant, he also carries a vegetarian pea protein, but I have not tried it. I get the chocolate, but I think this time I am going to order the three pack that has strawberry, vanilla and chocolate. I've been told that Unjury has a good unflavored protein powder, but I haven't tried that one yet.
  22. With Blind faith and trepidation... I find myself, like many others im sure feeling a sense of trepidation (feelings of fear about something that may happen), but I also have Blind Faith(belief without full understanding) about it.... It's one of those situations that is similar to many of life's obstacles... Or as Randy Pausch would say about Brick Walls... "The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don’t want it badly enough" ... I find myself in front of a brick wall... and Im in the role of a lifetime as a master climber... I decided long ago that I was important and worthy and that I was going to live, but I had never decided that I needed help. I went on with a "One Day..." attitude... and each day became just that... "One Day..." I couldnt see the forest for the trees.... I was afixed on the problem, defeated, but beleiving I was trying, believing I was able to win -alone...... I am 4 months into the process of seeing my PCP for 6 months before surgery and I was recently told that I no longer need 6 months, 4 months is what my insurance now requires... So this week i have my psych evaluation scheduled, and next week i have my upper GI and final PCP appointment... Then i can send over the papers to my surgeon-get a surgery date-and then they will submit the paperwork to my insurance-and BOOM!!! I did it.. With Blind Faith and Trepidation... I started this process by saying "Im going to do it this time"... because i said I was going to do it before in the past.. and never did... But Im doing it now and Im right there... almost... I will be having my Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy in May of 2013... Me, the guy who has never had a stitch in his entire life... The guy with anxiety and fear, the guy who didnt have faith in anything because he didnt have faith in himself..... My life is about to change drastically and I can feel it... I have already begun to choose differently. I am currently having GNC total lean shakes for Breakfast and lunch in an attempt to prepare myself for the 2 week pre op diet, and Im already seeing and feeling the results... My shirts feel better, my pants are looser... and I feel good about taking this step... OK guys and gals, Fellow pre-sleevers... Consider This as my introduction.... With Blind Faith and trepidation.

    Liquid Diet Prior To Surgery

So on the preop liquid diet, what are we talking about in calories? About 1000? My doc wants me to do Optifast but it's $180 for two weeks...that's more than my regular grocery bill! I have soy protein powder at home that I was using when I would get a fill. I think I will ask if I can use that instead of Optifast.
  24. I was having a lot of pain at 10 days out. Could not take deep breaths and severe pain in upper abdomen. Went to the ER. They ruled out a PE and any leaks. Surgery wise everything looked good but had some fluid in lungs and inflammation of the lining of my lungs. I am definitely walking more and using my IS and pain is somewhat better. I think the fluid in my lungs is better but still very painful to breathe deep and can't lay on side because of pain. I researched a bit and assuming what I have is a bilateral pleural effusion. I am supposed to make an appt for one more week with my surgeon but am concerned the effusion won't get better without intervention. It is still extremely painful. Anybody else have this? I can't find anywhere that this is normal and I am still painful. It has been 3 days since my trip to the ER. Thanks, Sue

    Heartburn post-op?

I had my surgery 5/13/2013, I was on prilosec for the first three months to help with healing. About two months after I went off of it I started getting really bad heartburn. They had me try a week 'treatment' of the priolsec again, it helped but a week or so after I finished it I had heartburn again. I've been on priolsec daily since. My dr said he'd have me try to go off it again in the future. He wasn't too upset or surprised. He said it does happen.
