    Tracking weight loss

I use the free version of My Fitness Pal. All I really care about is my protein intake so it's really just to make sure I get enough. I'm 3 yrs out now and still weigh myself daily but record it only once a week on Sunday. This works for me.

    Slow weight loss

Exactly as @catwoman7 said. There is no wrong or right amount to lose each week. Yes, there are averages & ranges but treat them only as a bit of an idea of what you MIGHT lose not what you will. There are too many factors that influence your individual rate of loss & it will change day to day, week to week, month to month. Remember you’ll lose at your own rate & every pound you lose is a win. Congrats on what you have achieved so far.
  3. What do you possibly think you’re gaining by being completely rude and utterly disrespectful? Thanks for the advice, I walk 6 days a week and lift. Nor do I have health issues outside of things not related to my weight. But keep on assuming.

    Worried about intake

60 grams (not milligrams) of protein is 240 calories—there's 4 calories per gram of protein or carbohydrate, and 9 calories per gram of fat, regardless of type. I spent four weeks (one pre-op and three post-op) on basically that diet and did fine. Dropped two and a half stone in three weeks.

    I've gained weight...

I do both... lighter weights for more reps for time under load for size and endurance, and heavy weights for raw strength. I'm with you on not overstressing the muscle groups. I won't even do front squats and back squats without three days in between. You look fantastic. #goals

GALS who started their journey over 300 lb+<br /> +

Hello Ladies, I was approved for gastric sleeve surgery late last month. I have to see my nutritionist once a month for 6 months consecutively, I have to have bariatric counciling report done that takes 3 sessions before surgery and one after, they did a ton of blood work, I have a upper GI and a echo cardiagram scheduled this week and I have to see my cardiologist to get approval to go off my blood thinners before they will scheduled my surgery date. I'm at my heaviest weight now 471 lbs. I don't know what my goal weight should be, I just want to lose enough to have my knees replaced as there bone on bone and I'm in a lot of pain everyday. I'm 49 and this is me now with a couple of my granddaughters sitting in my wheelchair.
  7. Hello all, I had my surgery October 1st, so this is day 10. I spend the first three nights in the hospital, and went home feeling pretty good. By afternoon the following day I was nauseous and I began to vomit. Because I could not keep water down I was re-admitted to the hospital. I struggled with potassium and magnesium, and my blood sugar straddled the line of low (68). We got the nausea under control and I have been home for two days without problems (yay), but I am still on clear liquid until I see my doc on Thursday. Before the complications I was advised to wait a week before starting supplements (I think partially to avoid sickness). However, my current diet is 60mg protein (320 cal), soup broth, sf jello and decaf hot tea with powdered nonfat milk. Naturally I feel no hunger, but how long can one sustain with such a low intake? Any suggestions for boosting those calories while avoiding dumping would be helpful. Thanks! Rachel P.S. For context my surgery was a revision from sleeve to bypass due to GERD. The first surgery was six years ago and I lost 120lbs. After a concussion in 2019 and 2020 Is gained about thirty back. I say this because I wonder how it might impact things….

    Food Before and After Photos

I just had Gastric bypass 5 days ago so still in phase 1. Tuesday will be a week for me not eating just liquids but I hope I will be able to a least eat some cream of wheat.
  9. It can be frustrating when the surgeon/Nut do not give caloric guidelines. I did not get any either. I was told to just watch protein and water. I need more structure than that so I watch my carbs and fat intake too. I just keep my macros where they should be- and the calories seem to fall in the 900-1200 range for me most days. I am 7.5 months post vsg. If I go lower than 900 calories I seem to hit a stall. My protein goal is higher than 80 per my Nut due to my exercise/activity level.

    How many calories a day?

I’m 8 weeks out and aiming for 700 kcal a day. Like you I didn’t get a caloric goal so I’m just doing what feels right. I think staying below/around 1000 is safe for the first year.

When Will I Feel Myself Again?

I’m 14 weeks post opt and still feel nauseous, I really can’t eat much, I try some days are better then others. I certainly hope it gets better. Water makes me ill, I drink Minute Maid 0 sugar. Has anyone else felt like this?
  12. Looks like you got a good explanation from Hop_Scotch. FWIW, I’ve used a straw from about 2 weeks out. I use one all day, every day. I have no problems. My program’s advice was to try it. If it bothers you, don’t use it.
  13. Straws can bring air into your stomach which can cause gas like pains. Some people don't have problems other do. I imagine if someone was going to have problems it would be in the first six to 12 weeks, while the stomach is healing and is still tender and they are getting use to restrictions etc. I am not one to typically use a straw, so didn't have a need to use one or test it out. I think using straws is one of those variable things about weight loss surgery - depends on your surgeon and/or what you may read. Some were told never to use a straw again, others maybe in time, others were not told anything. These two links were just the first two I found, I've linked them for no other reason. https://www.obesityhelp.com/articles/drinking-through-a-straw-after-wls/ https://mexicobariatriccenter.com/bariatric-surgery-myths/
  14. @kristieshannon I made tortilla soup a couple weeks ago too. It was good. Wish Texas was having some fall weather. Nothing like a cup of hot soup on a cold day. Yours look so good too!!

    3 weeks post op

You may have a temporary bout of lactcose intolerance. If I recall correctly I think I had a bout or two of diarrhea in the first couple of weeks but nothing as sustained as yourself. Would be worth checking in with your surgeon or dietician I think.
  16. I think you're doing really good. That's an incredible 4.2 lbs. loss per week.

    Tracking weight loss

Been using the app called Libra. It shows graphs, BMI, rate of weight loss per week, how many calories less you ate a day, goal vs actual... Etc.
  18. Hey everyone I’m about one week post op and I’m just looking for some guidance. They say we shouldn’t use straws after. Does anyone know why??

    July 2021 Surgery People!

Hi Soonlee_W! I'm sorry that you feel like you are losing slowly. It is frustrating when you feel like you are putting all this work in and not seeing the results you expected. I am Just throwing some questions and thoughts out there to see if perhaps they might be helpful. Was your doctor's only advice to increase exercise? Did he/she suggest modifications to your meal plan or suggest seeing the nutritionist? Are you having difficulty eating foods or just get full fast? Did you try looking at other food plans to see how it compares to yours? I know my plan put limits on the number of egg yolks per week (3). Are you looking at calories, fat, carbs in addition to volume of food? Do you track your food (i.e. Baritastic), so you can see if you are eating enough nutrients? Perhaps there is nothing to change, and it is just matter of following the plan & waiting it out. I think seeing a nutritionist might be most helpful, maybe they can help you find targets for calories that would maybe increase loss. Thank you for sharing, as others might be having this challenge as well. I hope you figure out what is causing your progress to stall & start seeing results that you are hoping for. 😊
  20. My scale comes with an app called FitIndex that I really like. It also has a fancy smart tape measure that I bought so I can measure myself for the times when weight loss stalls. I am about a month out and lost 9 lbs on my pre-op diet and 35 lbs. in the first month post-op. I'm currently in the dreaded three-week stall, just continuing what I need to do and I know it'll resume eventually.

    Tracking weight loss

I track my food in myfitnesspal - and record my weight there once a week (on Wednesdays - the day I had my surgery back in 2015). then once a month, on the date of my surgery (the 3rd), I put my weight in an Excel spreadsheet.

    3 weeks post op

Hi! I’m new here, and new to this lifestyle. I had surgery September 21, 2021 (Hiatal hernia repair, VSG, and gallbladder removed). I had moderate pain discomfort a few days after surgery but then felt great until 2 days ago. On Friday I started having diarrhea (more than 5 times a day). That continued through this morning. I know diarrhea is common after such surgeries, but is it normal to take so long and to last so long? It’s been hard but I feel like I’ve kept myself minimally hydrated to compete with the diarrhea. I have started to struggle getting in my protein shakes and puréed food literally is turning my stomach. Is this normal? I'm not in “pain”, my incisions look great, I’m not running a fever.
  23. +1 to the above responses. To your question: At 5 weeks, I was at about 300-400 per day At goal (7 months), was at 700-800 per day 1-2 years post, doing 2000+ per day (LOTSA exercise) Today at 3 years post, at about 1800 per day (moderate exercise) But that’s just me. If you are losing, it’s probably safe to assume your calorie level is just about right for YOU. No need to fix what ain’t broke, I’d figure. Good Luck! ❤️
