~ Not Sure What To Do
Tiffykins replied to Samantha~Leibold's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had both the sleeve and the band. I can tell you my horror stories with the band, but will spare you the gory details and just recommend you check out the Band to Sleeve Revision on this forum from the main page. You'll see just how many of us have to revise to the sleeve after having the band. I have a lot of information on VSG, the band and RNY in my blog, I'll post it here, but it's a long post so grab a cup of coffee and enjoy. Attached you to the information will be research links and articles pertaining to the VSG. The band has the lowest and slowest weight loss stats with the most long term complications and highest re-operation rates. I do not regret my band decision, VSG was not available when I had my band, and it taught me a lot about myself, my food issues. I love my sleeve, it's the very best decision I ever made for myself and my family. Here is a study from the band manufacturers: And then my personal reasons for VSG over RNY for my revision: -
Night shift
bikerchick519 replied to Learning2loveTina's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been on days for the last couple of years and just switched to midnights at the end of January. My revision surgery was Feb 3rd. There are not great food choices eating out in general but even less on nights. You have to really pack your lunch and healthy snacks. I live by myfitnesspal. You can even pack your food at home and enter everything in to make sure the macros are where you want them and adjust accordingly. I also personally think it's easier when your co-workers know the journey you're on so they don't try to temp you with unhealthy choices. I don't understand how people don't tell their co-workers and family what they're going through. They can either support you or get out of your way. I don't think it's any harder working nights then going to days if nights make you happy. It's all about your choices and how dedicated you are. -
STD didn’t pay me for my band to sleeve revision
3nuthut posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I started a new job Dec of 2017. My last successful fill was Oct 2017 but my issues started in April of 2018 that lead to the revision. My revision was on Aug 13 and I e been out for 2 weeks. It’s only for one week, but my pay is critical for me to live! The denial on my claim states that the Oct. visit was for my “Condition”. WTF? -
Psychotherapy for revision seeking alcoholics
GradyCat replied to Christina.Rose's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Sorry to hear that you've been going through a lot. Likely the alcohol is causing the GERD and you'd have to detox completely before undergoing another surgery. Your BMI might be too low at this point to qualify for a revision. But you have the opportunity to work on both issues if you focus first on the drinking part, have you tried AA? I don't think you're going to get your weight under control until you get your drinking under control. My surgeon's office has behavioral counselors as part of the program, does yours? Perhaps you could talk to them. -
Psychotherapy for revision seeking alcoholics

I am so sorry for the loss of your mother and the other things you are going through. I had my revision in Sept my weight at surgery time was 213. I also had severe GERD and a fistula, which is why my BMI didn't really matter. You and I are the same height so you may not have any issues getting a revision at your current weight. As far as the Alcoholism goes have you tried talking to your regular DR? Most bariatric surgeons also have you see someone, and they may be able to help. I also agree with the diversion therapy that AJ talks about. I wish you all the best! -
Psychotherapy for revision seeking alcoholics

I was doing great with the sleeve. Then my husband started beating me, my autistic son became a "teenager".... insert dramatic scary music here.... and my mom died on Dec 21. Oh, and I have an amazing 4 yr old girl. I have been hitting the bottle. A lot. In the last 6mo I have regained 15lbs. I'm currently waiting for insurance to approve a revision surgery for my sleeve. I went from 287 lbs to 215 and now 228. My restriction is still pretty good, but I am so stressed out that I have to believe my excess calorie intake is my alcohol intake. I'm not sure what I am even asking, but does anyone know a good way to battle alcoholism and a good type of doctor that is knowledgeable about bariatric issues as well as alcohol issues? Not specifically looking for a particular doctor, but any ideas would be great. Sent from my moto e5 supra using BariatricPal mobile app -

Babbs replied to mecub71's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
There are tons of people who've had band to sleeve revisions who have been very successful. I'm sure if you did a search you could find many, many threads about it in this forum. It's pretty common, actually. -

I couldnt agree with you more. I had my band since 2007. I had my revision surgery removing the band and revising to sleeve on 7/26/16 and its the best decision ive ever made. It is amazing being able To eat little yet anything healthy you want without worrying about it coming back up. Or being unable To talk due to sliming...so so happy now. Totally worth it!!!!! Need Advice! High BMI - Band to Sleeve revision
Irish posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hello All, I am starting my research to have my band revised to a sleeve. I am searching for the best "revision" doctor in MX as I am self pay. Unfortunately, the 1st 2 doctors I called were disappointing. The first wanted to wait 6 months between the 2 surgeries (removal and then sleeve) for an extra $4k and the 2nd immediately told me to get an RNY. I have a high BMI (5'11.5" and 450 lbs) but I have seen so many people on here that have lost a lot of weight and feel that I can do it too. I didn't appreciate him pushing the RNY without even knowing my situation. My questions: 1, What doctor would you recommend for revision that will do it all at once? 2. Which doctor will do the sleeve without harping on me to get an RNY? I have been lurking awhile and hopefully will be able to get decisions made and money coming in so I can get this done!! I have had this stupid band for 5 years and I HATE it!! I actually do not have issues with it other than no restriction and have never had restriction. Thanks for the help!! -
Patulous Eustachian Tube Dysfunction after Surgery
Katja posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi! Has anyone been diagnosed with Patulous Eustachian Tube Dysfunction due to losing the large amount we lose after surgery? I have it and could not believe losing this weight would cause something like this! The ENT I see is terrific, but I could NOT believe he said I could gain some weight to lessen the symptoms! I'm not even at 25 BMI yet after my revision to Bypass last year! Anyone? What have you experience with this and what did you do to lessen the symptoms? Has anyone had it disappear after the weight was stabilized after a while? Thanks for answering! -
I know how u feel. I'm worried too! I had band in 2010 and then 2 kids 2 yrs apart. My reflux is terrible. I'm not sure if when I pushed during delivery that something slipped but I am in the process of having revision. I know that even though I LOVE food I will b able to control myself and eat in moderation as I'm supposed to and I will be exercising more and will enjoy my new lease on life!!!!!! Probably due to pregnancy. Both my sister and I had band problems and removals after each having 2 kids.

Surgery date: October 17...Is 1 day in the hospital enough?
drizz75 replied to GeTnBackuP's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm hoping for just one day with my revision! If you have any issues at all: slight fever, not drinking enough, numbers are off, etc, the doctor can keep you for as long as he sees fit. -
Frantic - please help!!!!!!!
wwalsh replied to chubbydiva's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there, you have done too well to give this up now! Talk to the doctor about the $ issue, especially since you were self pay. Hopefully he will work something out with you if your insurance won't pay (which I really think they will). I didn't find my surgery that bad, but wasn't it worth the pain etc. to lose the weight!? With the weight that you have lost, the revision or even replacement may be much easier. Good luck to you! Wendy -
Revision in TX, thanks for the advise..as far as the food it's only 5 things nothing crazy- cottage cheese, yogurt, sugar free pudding, scrambled egg and pureed bean soup. All of course in specific amounts as instructed. Then the following week they introduce a few more. Today I'm attempting a coffee with lactose free milk and slpenda. They said I can have one. I feel somewhat better today. Still resting and relaxing but also getting up here and there to walk around. Following everything the Dr. Told me to a T. I work for Drs. So I know the importance of following instructions because I see it everyday. It sounds like you did great with yours and it's kinda how I feel I will be too for some reason. Here's to hoping.

Lap band revision to sleeve
robertweisman replied to ette16's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had a revision from lapband to sleeve. The pain was less for me believe it or not on this one. The only difference really is they are cutting scar tissue from the band that it left. And maybe adjusting stuff where band was. I had my surgery in mexico and I was walking 30mins after I came out of recovery. Exspect gas pain. Sucks -
I can tell you they do not like to do the band removal and the sleeve at the same time. I was fortunate because I know my surgeon personally and he knows I will run to him or call him if there are any issues. He told me before my surgery that he would do it only if it was safe to do it once he got in there. He explained that about 5% of the cases they can't do it at the same time. My advice is to possibly see if there is another surgeon that will try to do them at the same time. The other thing is that you all are not wanting to do the EGD - well, that's what provided me with the ammunition I needed for my insurance to cover the revision surgery. As long as you have something to support the need to have it done, in addition to your weight gain then you'll probably be able to get it approved. The doctors know what they need to do to get the procedure approved. The one thing I will tell you is the sleeve is very different. Be prepared to be super tired and weak for a week or more.. it may not be the same with you. I'm used to being able to bounce back fast. I haven't had real pain, the drain was a pain and it was in for 12 days.. and that made it a little difficult to do much. But.. it's not bad.

Pre-Op Weightloss
mommytoethan replied to KabinKitty's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i have BCBS. however, i am a band to sleeve patient. when i had the band, i had a different insurance company. they did not require me to lose any weight before approval or before surgery. my husband switched jobs, and we now have BCBS. they didn't require anything in order for me to do the revision. my husband works for microsoft and they have EXCELLENT benefits. each policy is different. so just because my policy didn't require any weight loss before surgery doesn't mean others are the same way. good luck! -
Is the band all that you expected? Better or worse?
burnsun replied to rene2005's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I also love my band!!!! iT WAS EXACTLY WHAT i EXPECTED. tHERE ARE PLENTY OF DAYS i AM SURPRISED IT WORKS AS WELL AS IT DOES FOR ME. I would just cry if it went away. I love feeling normal and looking normal (ok as normal as a 5'8" chick that wears fairy costumes to her daughter's birthday party can look - see picture thread) My family loves that I am energetic and having fun. I am allmost at my original goal - 165 lbs- I may revise that- I am almost at at 24.9 BMI and I am really excited! It has been great for me- one fill and that is it! -
My doctor had mentioned revision surgery to RNY after the sleeve if I am having trouble getting down to goal as a possibility. I don't think that is an expectation or something he does a lot, but is an option. I am having knee surgery on the 19th. I tore my meniscus due to increased activity and exercise now that I'm not carrying a piano everywhere I go. I consider that to also be sleeve related.

Obsessed with constant eating, any hope for me?
CowgirlJane replied to Debbi1025's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had the band for 10 years, ended up heavier than I started! I revised to sleeve in December 2011, lost about half my former size and maintaining in the goal weight ballpark. For me, sleeve and band have been completely different experiences. I was a bottomless pit and the band didn't help me (after first year) whereas I now have what I consider a normal, not insatiable, appetite. -
