  1. Dr. Rodriguez did my band 9 years ago. He is a very nice man and very experienced. I will be getting a revision. I am nervous but excited.
  2. I was banded in 05. I went in October last year for band to sleeve revision, and my doctor told me it was 50/50 that he would be able to do it depending on the amount of scar tissue and adhesions. Once he got in there he found the damage was extensive and just did the band removal and removed scar tissue to prepare for the Sleeve surgery. I was banded 5 months later (this month!) and surgery and recovery went very smoothly.
  3. Yes it would ! Are you getting sleeved ? Is it your first surgery ? I'm having a revision. Iv read lots of great things about Dr. Rod and even though I'm still scared to death I feel he is a competent well credentialed well reviewed surgeon.
  4. Hi, Im new here and strongly considering band to sleeve revision. I got my band in 2008 and it was making me sick. Got stuck on simple things sometimes couldn't drink water. I decided to have an unfill, so this has been sitting in my belly doing nothing..I'm now weighing more than I did before my band surgery and now have high blood pressure.. @@readinva how long did it take for you to go from consult to surgery? Was it the same process and when u got your band?
  5. Go on the band to sleeve revision thread for additional answers. I asked this same question on there and while it seems most had theirs done at the same time, some were told they had to wait X number of weeks/months to get the revision. It depends on the surgeon and what condition(s) the band may have caused, if any. Good luck with your journey.
  6. I would love to hear stories from those who have been converted from a lap band to a sleeve. My revision was approved and I will most likely have mine done all in one procedure at the end of April. Was your revision done in one or two procedures? What is it like compared to the lap band? Thanks!!!

    African American RNY Sisters

Msj2015 my progress has been excellent I have had no complications and I am doing great . I selected rny because it was the gold standard and I wanted to have surgury only once and not risk having a revision or the chance that my insurance would not cover the procedure . I had the option of the sleeve or RNy but selected rny also because of acid Rolex I didn't want to have to deal with the chance of developing that as well . Congrats on your choice on being healthy and if you have any questions feel free to pm or email me . Keep me posted on your progress and good luck you got this .

    Banded...but starting again

I was in a similar situation. Was banded in June 2013. Started at 289 and got down to probably 240. Had to have a revision surgery due to a leak in my port.went back to my old ways of eating. I weighed a few weeks ago at 266. I totally recharged. Went back and started following all my rules. Exercising every day. Logging all my food getting in my protein .I feel so much better and I already lost over10 pounds in two weeks. So my advice is to just go back to the beginning following all of your rules and do this before more time passes if I can do it anyone can.
  9. I truly hope that your insurance has to pay. I also had to wait between band removal and Sleeve, my surgeon said that once he was in there my stomach was in no shape to do the revision at the same time. Those months past super fast though and the Sleeve surgery and recovery went smoothly. I will be crossing my fingers for you also.
  10. I got my lapband in 2006 and loved it.I lost over 100 lbs and felf great. However it needed to be removed due to slippage. Medical necessity, not by choice. It was removed last November 2014. I got two Doctors opinions, both prefer to do the two surgerys seperately to give everything enought time to heal. I am now fighting with insurance company. My wonderful Doctor did have a peer to peer with my insurance company to explain why he felt I needed the revision to the sleeve. I have written 2 appeal letters and have been denied 3 time. It is now in the hands of a third party. I was wondering if there are others out there with similar storys. I am going to have the surgery regardless even if I have to self pay, which would wipe out all my savings. Keeping my fingers crossed.
  11. I'm also losing slow but I do feel the restriction. I'm able to eat pretty much anything but not a lot. ( I have not had desserts or pizza yet). The only bread I eat is a 1/2 of a sandwich thin toasted with tuna or chicken salad on top. I haven't done a lot of exercise because of work and waiting to get my foot treated. So far I'm averaging 10 pounds a month which I'm ok with. To me that's healthier than dropping 50 pounds in 2 months. But is does get frustrating reading about people losing so fast. But we were given a second chance with the revision. It just might take longer with some than others.

Not to confuse you, I had lap band removed last month and I'm waiting for revision surgery, sleeve I'm trying to find out all I can about it. @@PJO what about Vitamins? Do you take any? Any recommendation?
  13. I certainly feel restriction after having a band to sleeve revision, but the scale is moving very slowly it seems. I am 6 weeks out and have lost 18 lbs. I KNOW i'm eating the appropriate amts/types of food and am taking in between 600 an 900 calories daily (max). I have started to exercise, although not as much as I probably need to (i have a full time job, part time job, a family and am doing my masters). i am trying very hard not to compare myself to others, but MAN....sometimes i give in to feeling sorry for myself as a slow loser. I just don't want to fail again. I just worry that if the weight loss is this slow initially....how will it be down the road? Thoughts anyone?
  14. I had my lap been removed and revision to a gastric bypass surgery on Tuesday. I still feel like crap I'm very sore I've had a headache for days. Just wondering how long before I really feel better?
  15. I went onto the complication thread and am now officially freaking out! I am having surgery on June 12rh with Dr. Jose Rodriguez and am scared of post op complications and what I am going to do back home if I have issues. I am thinking about just having him take the band out and not do the revision. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    FAILED GASTRIC SLEEVE SURGERY

Sophia, I would love for you to keep us posted. I had my sleeve 3.5 years ago and it has failed. It's takem me three years to realize it's NOT ME. Tons of therapy and nutrition appointments later, I am convinced my little sleeve is damaged I am also following up with a new bariatric surgeon in a week and I'm wondering what he'll say. My desire would be for a re-sleeve since I can eat a lot of volume and have NO wish to revise to a GP or any other rerouting surgery. Can't wait to hear what your surgeon has to say! Thanks for the updates!
  17. I was getting really bad chest pains the last year of my band, the doctor took some saline out and I got immediate relief. Your symptoms remind me of what I had before band surgery and it turned out to be a hiatel hernia. As far as insurance, some will only cover 1 in a lifetime. My company had switched insurance since my band so I was able to get revision but they only covered 80%. Many also require to be at a certain BMI to qualify. I would definitely call them to go over the requirements but in the meantime, have some saline removed.
  18. I was in post op first but was too out of it to really notice. I didn't think the pain was that bad and I had revision surgery. I refused the pain meds after surgery because they made me SO nausea is the last time and I was fine. I only walked to go to the bathroom. Because I had revision surgery they told me to plan on 2 nights in the hospital but I went home the next day because I felt fine.

    FAILED GASTRIC SLEEVE SURGERY

I just got the call from the new bariatric surgeon's nurse! My sleeve IS too big and will require a revision if I wish to do so! So I'm meeting with the dietician to stay on point and from there we will have a follow up appt to discuss next steps! Again thank you all for your kind words and support. I'm working on getting the surgical medical records for this DR to see now and I'll keep you all updated.

    Overweight! Including Progress Pics

I couldn't live WITHOUT implants now that I've had them. My boobs before were.... sooooooo tiny and sad. Even with the malpositioning and the sagging as I've re-lost the weight, my new boobs are still a MILLION times better than my old ones. I'm confident that once I'm at goal and maintaining, the revision will be very successful, since I don't forsee punishing my body with another 90+ pound weight gain and re-loss post-sleeve!
  21. Try getting at least some, if not all, of your fill out of your band and see what happens. It might resolve some of that acid reflux and regurgitation. My band is totally unfilled. You can always start the process of looking into whether your insurance will pay for your revision and what their criteria is.
  22. You need to contact your insurance company and ask them what options you have and what the requirements are. I have seen many women on here get revisions. i am sure they will be able to coach you through the process. I wish the best for you.
  23. I would love to hear some opinions about my situation. I had my lapband put in five and a half years ago. I have been truly loved it but have had problems with it from time to time. Port sight pain is pretty much constrant since I had my tummy tuck two years ago but I just choose to ignore it. Recently, the night choking and reguritating has gotten to the point that I just can't take it any more. Even though I sit practically straight up I'm woken several times at night drowning in liquid from my stomach. I'm twenty pound higher than my lowest weight of 155 and fear that if I take the Fluid out of my band or remove the band entirely I will just end up back where I was in 2009. I came to these forums looking for some information on revising to a sleeve. Honestly, if the sleeve had been available to me back in 2009 that would have been my choice but it was not an option. No I read so many scary stories about what kind of damange my band could be inflicting on me right now and my syptoms don't make me feel any better. I have already made an appoitment with the bariatric doctor at my hmo to look in to everything. My questions for everyone here are these: I currently have an HMO, I had a PPO when I got the lapband. Would the HMO pay for a revision to a sleeve even though I am currently not obese? I don't want to have to remove the band, regain the weight, then get the sleeve! Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

    Post op day three

Day 3 post op for me today. Man those first 48 hours after were no joke. I had severe, non-exiting gas pains. I walked the halls hourly and it was slow going! Better today but still having some discomfort. I'm a lap band to bypass revision with a hernia repair. My middle section is tender but I'd take it over those gas pains anyday...yikes. Fluids and Protein are flowing down slow and easy, happy to not have any nausea. Good luck all!
  25. I had a revision to sleeve in March 16th. No problems whatsoever!! I am so happy to have that devil band out! You'll do just fine!
