Calling all the Aug 11th sleevers
Ratbrown replied to ayscott74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost 12 lbs and I'm not happy about it. I can't eat eggs which I used to love. Tired of protein shakes and yogurt. Still having pain on right side. I have an ultrasound on Tuesdsay to see if it's a hernia. -
I'm 12 days post op, and this morning I had 1/4 cup of nonfat greek yogurt.....with a a tablespoon of Protein powder mixed in. I ate 1/2 of it around 8 a.m. and the other 1/2 around 10 a.m.-----probably took 1/2 an hour both times, eating slowly and small bites.....it's noonish and I'm getting foamies........did I eat too fast? too much? I'm on full liquids, and didn't feel full....guessing I probably should have left out the Protein Powder.....I've been having yogurt and protein supplements since tuesday....but this was the first time I put the PP in the yogurt. Any input from those experienced with the foamies would be great......I feel like I've hit a milestone in my sleeved life LOL Thanks!

Having a shake with 30 grams is a lot in one. I take one from scratch with 1/2 cup of cottage cheese, 1/c cup of FF milk, some frozen fruit, 2 splenda and ice in the Magic Bullet. it comes out to 22 grams which I guess you could add some Protein whey powder and up the protein. It's really interesting all the different variations of pre-op, anywhere from none at all to some that are horribly restrictive. I just have to get in 70 grams of protein a day but I can have SF Jello, SF pops and then a Soup and yogurt a day. So I do the Greek yogut at 17 grams of protein. But I will say doing this has helped psychologically for after surgery. Don't know how well I would have done to go from eating anything to absolutely nothing. So mentally I feel more prepared. Good luck. Some days are easier than others. Trisha (June 1 banding)

Today it will be some seafood (as I love it) - likely 4 large shrimps would pack me full. Pure protein, low fat. Sometimes just a can of zero greek yogurt (around 120 calories with 19g of protein). And finally (I know this is not good anyway, but I can't stand it!) a bottle of organic Ginger Kombucha. It has some natural alcohol and minor natural carbonation, plus it has no protein and have some sugar (just around 5-6g probably), it is still low in calories and I don't think it would harm alot

Excellent that you are insightful enough and honest enough with yourself, and now it's back to basics. If it were me I'd consider plain Greek yogurt with either fresh or defrosted blueberries, cherries, etc for breakfast ( I mash mine up in a ziplock bag and then pour it on my plain Greek yogurt and add 1 packet of stevia in the raw) , protein shake for lunch, fruit or no sugar added fruit cup for afternoon snack and then a good protein for dinner, I.e. Chicken, beef, fish. Good luck and hope you are healing up nicely

What couldn't you be without now?
Diana_in_Philly replied to JeezLouise91's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My food scale. Small plates/bowls (kiddie size - cheap ones from Ikea). My Ninja blender. Oikos Triple Zero Yogurt (15 g protein in a serving) Fairlife Skim Milk (13 g protein in 8 ounces) Premier protein pre-mixed shakes (I liked their taste best) I still use all of these today, 15 months post op. Best of luck -

Hello! I had my band surgery on October 28th. From October 13th until November 3rd I lost 13 pounds! I was thrilled. Since November 3rd though I have been stuck at the same weight. I am still on the liquid diet (shake in morning, yogurt for lunch, and shake at dinner, with water and broth in between). I even have been walking every day. So why is the weight not coming off? I know it should be slow - about 2 pounds per week, but this week has been nothing. With a high protein, low calorie diet, with exercise you think there would be some loss. Did anyone else experience this? Does any one have suggestions??

🙂hi. No worries. I'm so happy to be speaking to people about this as I've never done it before and always kept it to myself. But its nice to share how I'm feeling and listening to how other people feel too. My surgery is booked for 6th April. Didnt you say yours is 7th? How does it work in the USA? Like, I'm able to get mine done on the NHS, which is free and luckily i dont have to pay, if I did, then it could cost me £10-£15k which is ridiculous, especially if someone wants to better their lives. We get it free in the uk as the cost of the op in beneficial and outweighs the costs when older and overweight etc... I wish I had the same meal plan as you, mine has put me on a liquid diet to shrink my liver for a whole 2 weeks before. He basically said I need to live off water milk and yogurt for the 2 weeks previously tho. Fingers crosses for you, I dont think your boyfriend recognises how hard it is trying to lose the weight and keep it off. For some people it's impossible x

@@virgogirl67 I like the idea of the greek yogurt and Crystal Light mix! I don't buy Crystal light, so I will substitute with my vanilla Protein powder. I started my liquid diet Monday April 27th and have already lost 10lbs!!! here are a few things I am currently eating. Mind you this is a full liquid pre-op diet my surgeon suggested I start one week before surgery. (My surgery date is May 7th) Well a typical day goes like this: 2 packs of instant grits (quaker) 2 eggwhites (NO salt-little pepper) EAS Advantagedge carb control no sugar (doesn't have much flavor but it's awesome-bought at Sam's) 4 oz prune juice-sugar free sugar free snack pack pudding (butterscotch or chocolate) Motts blueberry applesauce (sugar free) 2 packs of instant grits EAS ADVANTAGEDE WOW that seems like a lot but I haven't ever gone over 1,000 calories I also use MyFittness pal so I know my intake on carbs and sugars. Tuesday May 5th I will start the clear liquid diet and have already bought the knorr broth thanks for that suggestion wannaBthinsoon

My surgery is scheduled for May 25th. I am on a two week liquid diet too. My doctor's diet isn't as strict. I can have steamed veg. as long as there isn't any salt or butter on them. I can have oatmeal (without sugar or butter), and campbells healthy choice soup. I can also have sugar free popsicles, yogurt, and fruit.

I am about 3 weeks post op and on the purée phase for the next three weeks. I am at a loss as to what to eat, as everything I have tried tastes horrible except for yogurt and broth. It also doesn’t help that I cannot keep down my chewable vitamins and the protein shakes are making me feel nauseous all the time. Any ideas of other things to eat?

Dr. Oz about WLS Monday
Apples2 replied to 123crod's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Way funny comment, Dave. I watched the show and thought that Dr. Oz did a fair job of putting forward the works of the band and band surgery and interviewing the two guests that are contemplating LB surgery. What I did think was not a realistic portrayal of the "norm" was the amount of food eaten by the two guests that have had LB surgery. Not saying what they laid out on the tray is not what they eat on a daily basis...just saying I doubt it is the norm. The one showed that she ate maybe 4 small teaspoons of yogurt for BF, 1 cup of broth for lunch and what looked like 4 small teaspoons of pudding for dinner. By far.... way less than I eat on a daily basis almost 3 yrs out. -

She must be really tight or have the tiniest pouch I ever heard of. But it was a good show! Also just a note about Elfiepoo, when I post something I always hope she comments on it. I respect her opinion as someone who has lost a lot of weight and seems very knowlegable and open minded. Cheri -
My biggest complaint about the show was the way they showed what the two women were eating...The one woman who showed 5 spoons of yogurt, broth and pudding...give me a break! She wasn't right out of surgery so if that is all she eats then she isn't getting in much Protein at all and is most likely way too tight because it was all sliders. The other woman's food was a little better but still not much protein. I was happy to see him give a fairly accurate view of the pros and cons and I didn't feel like he was trying to push his opinion on anyone. I'm not opposed to people with lower BMIs getting the surgery as long as they have co-morbidities...I certainly wish that I hadn't waited until I reached 325 to get it done...

Surgeon's advice after vomiting
summerseeker replied to lizonaplane's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have random bouts of vomiting every week. Not like the last 10 weeks though. 1 meal will be fine and the day after its a no no. I vomit saliva, not froth. I dont understand it at all. I dont do liquids the day after, I need nutrients badly so I start on things I know are ok with my tummy. Yogurt is a big soother. The gummy vitamins went straight in the trash as soon as I could swallow ordinary multivitamins and iron from the supermarket. I do morning and before bed with these. Thats working fine. I was given soluble Calcium but I can not stomach it and as I am seeing my dietician tomorrow, I will ask about alternates for this. I was told to book a Vitamin B12 injection every 12 weeks for life so have this in 10 days time. Does anyone else get this ? -
I added crystal light lemonade to my Greek yogurt until it ws smooth and light . Good flavor and not as pasty.

I have a kind of funny question
FairySleeve replied to mentalistfan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was surprised too because I was not treated for diabetic before, my blood sugar was pretty high but I was not yet diabetic. As they told me everything they were doing to me I was...what wait (after have had a few shorts already) why do I need insulin? The nurse told me that my blood sugar was higher than usual because of anaesthesia. It was only the first night post-op only. Later they checked my blood sugar twice a day and it went down hill. The fifth day the doctor asked me to put sugar in my yogurt! Hehe -
How much can you eat in puréed stage?
lessoflilo posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello everybody! I was just wondering what your day looks like during te puréed stage. How much can you eat in a sitting; Ive been doing 2 tablespoons of protein (ie: tuna blended with Greek yogurt) and 2 tablespoons (or less) of mashed potato. I feel I could eat more. I don't want to overeat. I also don't know when I'm full. How do you know you are full? Thank you in advance! -

Day 3 Post Op: does it suck this bad for everyone?
Jenopolis replied to Jenopolis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You guys are great!! Thanks for sharing, it gives me good ideas and is a big relief to know I'm not alone. Today, day 4, is slightly better-- in just 3 hours I have almost finished my 8 oz of herbal tea. I can't wait until I can move on to yogurt and applesauce and cottage cheese after 4 more days... -
I have coffee first thing. Half an hour later I have cottage cheese with blueberries or yogurt. I exercise in the morning for an hour so I want to get some protein in. Eating in the morning also gets your metabolism going. It is like putting a log in the fire.

Lap band fills, do you ever wish they would put in more cc's at a time?
ABLOND replied to kassy07's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
labwalker, speaking as someone that just got a fill on Tuesday and thinks she is to tight..it's miserable..all I can eat is yogurt and for some crazy reason my Protein bar. I'm hoping it's just that I'm not chewing enough or eating to fast...afraid to say "hey take some out" when all I want is to be in the zone and losing...how long should I give it till I call the office and ask for an unfill? I mean is it possible that my tummy is still irritated from the fill and that's why "real/healthy" food is sticking? HELP????
