    Nsv!

NSV = nonscale victory. Sorry for the confusing verbiage initially and I see how it can sound like I was trying to reward myself..... Thanks for the encouragement, EVERYBODY! Didn't mean to sound so attacked - just trying to savor my own little personal victory....

    Nsv!

What is NSV??? Sorry if you felt we were being negative , it was your words that prompted the replys. I personally rewarded myself with food and drink so many times I ended up with weight loss surgery... I don't do that anymore . I reward myself with a good book that I wouldn't usually buy before . I get a pedicure, I have my brows waxed rather then pluck, I buy earrings, I buy expensive perfume , I had permanent make up done .... but food for me as a reward nope . Does not mean I do not eat , I eat almost anything I want in a portion that is doable but it is not a cheat or reward it is just something I have to do and I do not feel deprived, I feel alive and free . Everyone handles their journey differently

    Denied!

Thanks everyone. I am feeling pretty (momentarily) defeated right now. But amazingly I think I've had a pre-band NSV of sorts...I haven't picked up a fork or a spoon and shoveled anything into my mouth that I shouldn't have. I'm getting MAD. Now, how to get another 15lbs off in three weeks... (my next PCP appt is 4/25)

    I have a NSV!

Grats on your NSV, Kathy! I have been fat all my life and have bad ankles so I've never been able to wear heels. I'm kind of jealous! hehe

    Roller Coasters!

That is one of the best NSV out there. I went to Six Flags a few months ago and rode Batman. I had not been on that for over 20 years because I would not fit. I literally teared up when the ride started.

    NSV!!

I am almost one moth post op and could slip on a pair of capri pants I have that I couldn't get over my thighs in July!!! so happy! down 23 lbs , I am so excited
  8. This morning I decided to organize my closet and bring some summer things out. I realized, as I was going through my winter stuff, that I will NEVER wear those 26/28 winter clothes again! My surgery is scheduled for 6/25!!! I began to pull my winter stuff out and bag it up. I had some second thoughts.. maybe I will need it.....then I decided to let myself believe it could really happen this time. My entire winter wardrobe (minus one outfit for comparison later) is in big garbage bags ready for donation. YIPPEEEEEEE!!!
  9. Been in meetings all week and realized yesterday that my suit jacket was quite comfortable when buttoned even when I sat down. And it's a size 16! Yay me! Love that clothes are fitting better. Down 50 lbs.

    My Biggest NSV To-Date

Great NSV. I have the same problem and I'm short to boot. I found a pair of jeans that fit really well for me at JCPenney's.

NSV and a new errand to run...

Great NSV. I just took mine off the other day until I too can get it sized.
  12. Went to pick up my race packet the other day and asked for an XL tshirt, and the guy looked at me like I was crazy. He said no way I wore that size. So he gave me a large. Got home, pulled it out and thought no way in hell that it would fit, but it did. Later read others on Facebook complaining that the shirts for the race were running small. Yay me! I ran into a girl that I used to work with yesterday at my new job. I walked over and said hello, and I could see that she couldn't figure out why I was talking to her. I asked her, you don't recognize me? She said nope...I walked off. As she was leaving, it hit her ad she came back to tell me I looked great.
  13. Hey, Cruising around the sight and I cannot figure out what NSV stands for???? Anyone

    My Biggest NSV To-Date

I haven't had the pleasure of doing any clothes shopping yet, but I wanted to congratulate you on your great NSV! I can't wait to shop in a department other than plus sizes, how exciting. Oh, and by the way, long time no talk to! I just saw Dr. Herrera today for my monthly appointment. I was on the line about whether or not I needed a fill, so we talked and decided not just yet. I am averaging between 1.5 and 2 pounds a week, so we are going to give it a few more weeks. I have a feeling by next month I will definitely need one. I hope to see you at the next meeting, I have missed the last two, one due to my daughter being ill and the other due to work.

    50 pounds is HISTORY!!

I have reached the 1st major goal in my journey. I am 50 pounds lighter.....I am thrilled with the results in such a short amount of time. I could never have done this presurgery. I would have never been able to stick to the small portions, my BAND is my best friend!! I know that staying the course is my only recourse in my addiction and that I will be a recovering food addict forever even when I am at GOAL! I know this will always be an issue and that I need to look at it like an Alcoholic looks at booze! Food is now just something I need to keep my body going. I do not use it for making me feel better nor do I eat just to fit in or eat out of boredom. I love exercising and making that part of my regular life has been the best part. I now feel like a person with energy that can make a difference, by helping others, because I am able to MOVE and not feel pain. I am able to breath and run up a flight of steps....YES run.....before surgery I would of had to crawl up a flight of stairs.....or I would of just taken the elevator. I have had alot of NSV's but the best has been having my 4 year old grandson Adam crawl up into my lap and sit and talk with me, before surgery I had nowhere for him to sit.......I love this time with him now. I also can get down on the floor and crawl around with him playing and he loves it. I know this will only get better over time. I am well on my way to reach my goal of 140 pounds lost and a weight of 140 pounds. I am happier than I have been in I can't remember!! Don't lose hope, if I can do this anyone can!!

    No Friend Of Mine

2x4 you've got some really great advice/encouragement here. I did want to comment on those "I lost 30lbs. my first month" posts. BTB was absolutely right about the water! Just to give you some perspective (I've probably written this 10 times today to people who are frustrated with weight loss)...In the 8 weeks since I've been sleeved, I have been in a stall 7 of those. I stalled at week 2 for 4 weeks then lost 9 lbs, gained 4 back, and have stalled since then. That's right with over 200 lbs to lose I have barely lost anything. I defy the whole more to lose, lose faster! I literally did a better more consistent loss prior to surgery...in pounds that is. Funny thing is, I have lost inches galore. I judge by my clothes not through true tape measuring. I look so much smaller than what I should at this weight. I like that I'm losing slowly because I can help my skin along the way...so some damage control. I say all this to say, hang in there. The scale will derail even your best efforts. If you can come up with a few NSVs you'll probably feel a lot better about this process. Hugs to you!
  17. Thanks. I hope others will join me with their pictures. I'm half way to goal and can not imagine what those NSV pictures will look like.
  18. Okay, so I thought it would be fun to post pictures of NSV's. Pictures motivate me so I thought it would be fun to post all kinds of them showing an NSV. I have posted 5 examples, but they can be anything, like a seatbelt that is too big, extra room in a seat, 2 people in your old pants, etc. Funny or serious, no feat too small pictures can help us through our stalls (hey, that rhymed). We can use these pictures to reflect back on the progress by SEEING our NSVs. Surgery Date: 3/13/12 SW: 243.6 CW: 193.6 5'5" 1st picture: my watch was tight when I went in for surgery 2nd picture: my feet shrunk and now my shoes are too big 3rd picture: my size 18w can be pulled down without unbuttoning 4th picture: I can't wear my wedding rings-they fall off 5th picture: I can cross my legs Please post yours!!!!

    “Non scale victories...”

You are going to start seeing the victories very soon after the surgery. You will start to see that your blood pressure, A1C and cholesterol will start to trend in the healthy direction assuming you stick to the plan laid out by your team. If you commit yourself to getting up and moving your body, you will also see your energy increase and find you are able to do a lot more things than before. Some of the NSVs I saw fairly soon were being able to easily cross my legs without pulling the leg up, being able to easily get up from a seated position etc. It is very important in my view to make sure you are not only dieting but moving....exercise as much as you can by walking and try to increase it as you become more comfortable with it. At this point, my non scale victories are far sweeter for me. I am able to fit into clothing sizes I have not seen since my Freshman year in College, I am exercising 1.5 hours per day, I have a resting heart rate of 50 and my blood pressure is well below average. I am healthier than at any point in my adult life and I am 58 years old. After not quite 8 months, my life has changed drastically and I am not going back to where I was. I have lost 101 pounds and am going to keep losing until I reach a normal BMI of 25 or lower.

    Life is GREAAAT!

I really do love reading your posts. I have been in a blah mood today and this made me feel better. You look awesome by the way! I had a NSV last week as well. I was jogging at the park and I looked over to my left and saw someone running next to me. That someone looked good, and then I realized it was my shadow. I am finally starting to notice the weight coming off.
  21. My size 18's are falling off of me and people keep telling me my face is smaller. I guess I'm officially in a 16 now. Going to pick up a few pairs of cheap pants tomorrow to get me through lol.I have lost ten lbs since surgery and am feeling extra tired lately. I went to Dunkin Donuts with my hunnie today and asked them to warm up my 1/3 cup of cream of broccoli soup in their microwave lol. It was nice to feel a small sense of normalcy return. I also think I have an NSV but hoping it's not a fluke. For as long as I can remember when I sit for any amount of time my lower back is stiff and sore when I stand up. Today it hasn't been. I was so surprised when I realized it that I sat down and stood back up again!!!! Once again I am feeling so very grateful that I had the opportunity to have this surgery!!!! GRATITUDE in abundance!
  22. Today I had 2 much needed NSV. I have been struggling the last few weeks, and not seeing much progress . Today a girl at work said "hey skinny" ... I just kept walking knowing she was talking to someone else. She said Tracy I'm talking to you don't keep walking .. She told me she has notices how skinny I'm getting . Then I was headed out to take my 30 min walk on my lunch and ran into someone I had not seen in 6 months, and she "Ms. Tracy is that you ? You look amazing your beautiful !! Skinny And beautiful are two words that I have never considered of myself . I still have about 45lbs to go to get to my "skinny" goal. But needless to say. I now have a favorite new skinny outfit

    Two things.

Two things happened today: I reached another scale goal, 50 pounds down, and I reached a NSV, I can fit into my jeans!!! I kept a couple of pairs of jeans from "before" but I had to quit wearing them 3 or more years ago. I guess I just hadn't realized just how much weight I had gained until about a month ago when I went to try one of them on and there was NO WAY I was getting them on. They barely went over my hips! I have noticed a lot of body changing lately. More than just my face is slimming down. I can definitely see that change (and, apparently, so can everyone else!) but even though I had lost 5 inches in my waistline that was much harder to see. I am now 6 inches down in my waistline and that last inch has made a world of difference. I can actually see the beginnings of a waistline! Not that I ever have much of a waist, but that huuuuge belly I have been toting around is really starting to diminish. I remembered earlier this week that the last time I lost major weight the last thing to go was my stomach. Why is that? Maybe because I carry the bulk of my excess weight around my middle, unfortunately. Still, I am so very excited to see what I will look like 20 pounds from now. That is my next major goal. I will still be over 200 pounds but I know these next 20 will mostly come off my midsection. I bought a fitness band 11 days ago. I set low goals for myself at first and was kind of surprised to see that I actually walk more than I thought I did, but I raised my goal a few days ago and I am still managing to go above and beyond that goal! Who knew? I will keep upping my goals and see where it leads. Right now I am still just walking but I am starting to feel like I can do so much more than that for the first time in a very, very long time. What a journey this is. I am loving it.
  24. Wow! i cant believe that my restless legs are all better. I have struggled with them for decades and since the surgery six days ago not a problem! i had not even thought about it until i saw this post. WTF? this is not supposed to happen but my feet feel great. I guess this counts as an NSV I hope that yours is temporary thing, there are medicines that work well, i have been on both Mirapex and Requip, they do cause intense dreams though. the best help i received was from an acupuncturist who showed me two spots that i could needle myself and relieve it when it got bad. i hope mine werent transfered to you.
