  1. Pookeyism, thank you, I actually just today looked into joining the local YMCA or Sports Center because they both have indoor/outdoor pools... I figure if i can do that until most of the weight comes off, i can tackle the foot problem if losing the weight does not fix it. I also called the Dr a while ago to see if i could use the machines and he told me to go easy to start then i should be good in a few weeks to increase, as long as i'm doing something to exercise, he will be satisfied he also suggested i try a stationary bike since that will not put pressure on my feet..

    San Antonio Sleevers????

Another San Antonio sleever here......I travel 2-3 weeks a month on business (monday-thursday) but I have been trying out Anytime Fitness on Overlook Pkwy, and the one on Stone Oak Pkwy lately to see how that will work for me. Have you had your sleeve yet? If not, who is doing it?
  3. I am 4 weeks post op today. I have been sick to my stomach for 2 days. I don't want to eat or drink. I feel like if I could throw up I would feel better. I also am having the gas in the chest pain again. I have no idea whats going on? Anyone else had this.

    Surgery date 2/2/04

Just put the cottage cheese into a blender or food processor. I'm 4 days out (banded 2/3) and I'm beginning to get kind of hungry myself. Do you think some soft-serve low fat frozen yogurt would be ok, or am I kidding myself and it's just a slippery slope? Thanks, Sheila

    Bathroom Issues

Totally normal. The same thing happened to me. I had a week of nothing but protein shakes and diarrhea all day long. I found that chewable fiber (generic) helped firm it up a little bit, but really, when you only put liquid in.....it isn't uncommon for liquid to be the only output.

    Exercise and weight gain

More doesn't necessarily equal better. It may benefit you to tweak your program, for instance spinning 2 times a week and then something less intense and restorative, like walking, or yoga two days a week. There is a weight loss guru named Dr. Ray Hanish who is really up on the science and physiology of exercise. His podcast [url="http://cutthefatpodcast.com/ is available for free on iTunes. I think it surprised me to hear that overtraining can put the body into stress and just completely shut down fat burning mechanisms. I hope this helps!

    Caloric Intake

I was at my one month appointment yesterday and I am supposed to be under 500 Calories until I am 6 months out. I will be up to 1000 calories by the time I am a year out. Right now at 5 weeks I get 300-400 in on average. My plan is strict three meals no snacks. 1 protein shake.
  8. I eat up to 1000 cal/day. I get between 90 and 110 gram Protein. Less than 50 g carbs. I do three miles walk/run 4 times a week and 2 days weights with a trainer. I need to lose 40 more pounds to goal. Thanks Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App
  9. Do you count calories and Protein? Protein and carbs? All 3? I know that you need to follow what your NUT/surgeon says, but I'm curious what people have found that works for them. I sometimes feel overwhelmed counting everything, my nutritionist didn't really give me guidelines. My sample menu says 900 calories 60g of protein. My goal is always over 60g of protein and I avg closer to 70-80.

    Why am I not excited?

Great insight Emily. I think at times I can relate with you Escape. Four months post surgery and I am just now at the weight that I was 3 years ago, although I am not at the size that I was 3 years ago; I get pissed at myself for abusing my body like I have. But overall I know that I have done something to change the course of my life. Try to draw motivation from anything that you can! Enjoy each success and reward yourself.

    Psych Eval

I had to go and speak to the psychiatrist and he asked me about my weight loss journey and why I thought that this would work for me. He asked me about doing the liquid pre diet and some other questions. Then I had to go back in a week and see him again and he asked me more about how things were going and such. I had this done when I had my lapband but not my sleeve since I went to Mexico for that one. You will do fine. I have never heard of anyone that has not passed the psych test.
  12. This is my story and Journey after having my bypass years ago-9 to be specific. It all started out with a huge hiatal hernia to be repaired. My surgeon recommend me to seek lap band surgery, as being overweight might not hold the hernia repair , and he told me it would be a real diservice to me if he did not advice me to do so. So, off I went to a weight loss seminar, and spoke with Dr. Gregory Schroder as to wether or not I would be a candidate. He felt not, as having the Nisson Fundoplasty could potenuate problems down the road. I so appreciated his honesty, and he mentioned a surgeon who performs gastric bypasses to see if I was a candidate. Immediately I was, despite my history of depression and chrohns.. So off I go. Oh I was told that there could be complications such as a leak, and nausea post op, but this rarely happends. I was also told to be very strict with my diet, because after three years, your puch my be stretched, and weight gain indeed can happen. I was very compliant. Weight loss very successful.Hoever, ther have been so many complications down the road. My surgeon left to go to Doctor's Without Borders, and has left the state. I ended up having immediate surgeery to remove my gallbladder 1 year later. Dr. Shroder's group did that for me. Three years post-op I had an open strangulated hernia repair- again by Dr. Gregory Schroder. I suffer from chronic nausea and vomiting. I have terrible painful lower cramps as well. I had a picc line 3 years ago, as my weight has drooped so low due to the nausea and vomiting. My weight has dropped as low as 86 pounds. I just can't keep the weight on. How ironic life is. You'd think how nice it would be to eat and not gain a pound, but it has become a curse. I could not work anymore in my favorite job as a PACU nurse, as I didnt have the strength to move the stretchers anymore, or the stamina. The excertion just made my weight drop even more. I can work , but can't do physical labor anymore. I want you to know I watch MY 600 POUND LIFE. My husband and daughter don't understand. So many people struggle with different things in their lifes. Life after surgery is a Journey in itself, and will always be. I so applaud those who share their stories, and know that the journey never stops. I share my story here, becaus gastric bypass is a serious surgery. I think people should really think about it instead of jumping on it right away like I did. Learn to love yourself. I know how hard it is to be overweight. Everyone wants a quick fix. I know I did. I wish everyone who does have the surgery much success. I will continue with my story as time progresses. Bless you all-CBT
  13. My doc said 8 weeks for baths or swimming. But then again he also said 8 weeks for sex HAHAHA not!

    Dreamin'

Yes, 2 blogs in one day-one complaining, one hopeful... Call me vain if you will (it IS my name) But I can't help but think and hope of the future. A day when I'll REALLY be hot, and not fat-hot. I got my teeth whitened and they're AMAZING. Got a chemical peel- my skin is a work in progress. And best of all I'm 5 days post op and the lightest I have been in years! There's a couple events coming up and I'd really like to WOW the people there! I know that I'm awesome now, But I really can't wait for the new and improved Vanity to rear her lovely head and take over THE WORLD!!:w00t: I'll post new pics in a few weeks, I wanna make sure you can tell a difference. Yeah, I know I'm terrible. I watch americas next top model for insperation, I spend hours studying pin-ups to help formulate goals and a game plan (I don't think I've ever told anyone that!) anyways-I think thats it for now! Thanks for reading!
  15. It sounds like you ate something that didn't agree with you. I had that happen the 2nd day I was on pureed. Now, I'm 5 weeks out, still on pureed because my Dr requires 6 weeks of it, and I had a great dinner tonight with a cup of egg flower soup, some ma po tofu (eating only the tofu) and a bite or two of egg foo yung. Don't worry it will get better and next thing you know you will be complaining about the constipation that seems to happen to most of us!

    Post Op Day 7

I'm a 12/19 sleever still on clears. (my doc does 2 weeks clears, 2 weeks moist and mushy, and then 2 weeks on soft solids). My favorite is the beef bouillon, but I'm also surprisingly enjoying the blue gatorade and edy's sugar free fruit pops. But my focus is on Wednesday when I can change to moist and mushy!!! Be strong, protect your healing belly and keep your eye on the finish line! The boring choices won't last forever!

  18. First and foremost--- MY WEDDING DRESS FITS!!!!!! I'm engaged. The wedding was planned for 2006 in Hawaii. Then my hubby's mom got sick and was in hospital. So we postponed the wedding ( and decided to start trying for a baby- I wanted to have kids earlier in life). Then she passed away while I was pregnant with her first grandchild. Life went on and the wedding has always been on the back burner. We now have 2 little monsters we love to death. Now- keep in mind- the dress never actually fit me before. I was going to " lose a little more" before the wedding. Instead I ballooned out. But it fits now!!! Yay!!! And I still love it!!! I took a couple pics, but I can't find the cord to attach it to the computer : ( I'm a baker by trade. I was always exhausted by end of day. It's a very physical job. Now I fly through a shift faster and more efficient. I don't even break a sweat while working in the ovens!!! And believe me, those be some damn hot ovens!!! In a 2 day timeline, I had 8 ( yes 8) people comment on my weighloss and how great I look. It's simply awsome : ) I'm training for a half marathon and run a 5k 4-5 days a week. When i take my heartrate, it used to go high and stay high when i work out. Now it doesnt go as high and drops back down to a good resting rate quickly. Once I can get my time alittle better, I'll add more distance. But I'm so proud of what I'm doing. One of the best parts is that my body isn't so sore like it used to be after a workout. I guess it's just recovering better? I biggest nsv to date is my attitude. I'm so much of a happier person now. I think alot of it, is just not being so tired all the time, and sore from carrying an extra 80 lbs around, and I'm not ashamed of what I've become anymore. I'm proud to be me now : )

    The next step

Well folks I have started my journey. Earlier this week I went and had my Upper GI and chest X-ray done. Have appointments for the Pulmonary and several other's next month and into June. I am using my civilian insurance (Horizon NJ Health...i.e. Medicaid) since the Veteran Affairs is moving Sssooo s-l-o-w...but I have started. Should be an interesting set of experiences. I am concerned that Horizon will not cover it saying that my V.A. benefits are my primary insurance. That is a whole other can of problems just hanging there in the back ground. I keep telling Horizon that the V.A. dose not play nice with other insurance companies and I don't think they will do the type if surgery I want done. I have a problem with a surgeon who only wants "1 size fits all" bariatric surgery. It make me nervous to have him operating on me.....

    liver herniation

im a bit concerned that i may have a liver herniation or something similar. one spot an inch or two above an incision, is very tender, swollen (not red), and quite painful. its only painful when i bend, laugh, cough, sneeze, move too quickly or touch it. when it *does* hurt, id rate the pain a 6 or a 7. when i lay down and press on the area, theres no pain. i called my surgeon to see if i should come in or something and was told it was only the stitches inside healing. um. im not sure i believe that.... so i asked if there was any chance of it being a hernia or something and get this... ...I GOT LAUGHED AT and told there was NO CHANCE of it being a hernia. well....correct me if im wrong, but after surgery penetrating the muscle wall, a hernia is indeed possible. im so upset right now. im in a fair amount of pain that my liquid oxycodone isnt even touching. my surgeon had a free slot this afternoon to see me but would rather i wait until our appointment on friday. how hard is it for him to just check this spot and put my mind at ease so im not stressed and worried sick all week? i just want to curl up in bed and cry.

    Nutrition/diet/dumping syndrome?

I can't say yet that I've been around the block on this journey but I can talk about my experience with dumping. I started in the hospital during recovery when they gave me two cups of Apple sauce. Me thinking it was ok since I was in the hospital ate it. After that time I worked on figuring out how much sugar I could have and it worked out to around 3 to 5 grams. Not much and it did catch me sometimes when I didn't read a label. It wasn't long before it figured out that dumping was a great way to loss weight and stop the hard bowel movements. I progressed this way for around six months and then the dumping stopped. In its place came reactive hypoglycemia. It's a terrible sickening feeling and forces me to stay away from strong sweets. I'm not saying this will happen to you because many of us don't get dumping I'm just telling you my experience. Best of luck to you.
