    Ghrelin and memory / learning?

I have been having a difficult time articulating as well. I thought it was from lack of nutrition as I am only 10 days out. I agree that the long term affects of obesity are far greater than the side effects of vsg thus far. I hope my issues with memory go away asap.

  3. Two weeks ago I had a treadmill stress test. It was a nightmare. My heart was beating so fast that I could hardly breathe. I asked to get off and they kept telling me just a little longer. Finally, I told them I was going to pass out and they let me off. I didn't stay on long enough. I was really scared to go back to have the chemical stress test but I have to get cleared by a cardiologist. Yesterday I had a chemically induced test called stress pet scan. It was the total opposite of my first test. Just lay still for about a half hour. Machine kept taking picures. The last 10 min they injected me with something to make my heart beat faster. I had no bad reaction and could have slept through the test although I don't think they want you to. My point is to try to get the chemical test if you are morbidly obese, older and not in good shape. I had a lot of people tell me the treadmill stress test wasn't that bad and I could do it. I really tried but for some people like me we should have the chemical test.

My surgery is scheduled March 1st but I will be there from Feb. 28 - March 10 because I am having some dental work done as well. So I will see you there! Do you know which hotel you are staying at? I will be at the Lucerna. Can't wait to meet you there! Tracy
  5. Went shopping at 50% off thift store & looking at the jeans & thinking hummm. Been a while since I bought anything the size 13 is just a tiny lose. Maybe time to move to size 12. Omg! I'm a size 12. That's smaller then 15 years ago. I bought a size 7 in jeans because I want to be a size 7 in the future. I also have like 3 jeans in size 10.

    statistics?

Hey I look at it this way...I had about 80 lbs to lose and if I lose 40 and get stuck at least that is 40 lbs that is gone for GOOD! Unlike any other "diet" I have been on where the 40 lbs leaves for 6 months then comes back with 10 "friends" causing that gradual but REAL climb up the scale. I would rather lose 40 and maintain than lose 40 and gain, lose 50 and gain, etc etc so look on the bright side My doctor also told me the same as above....that I will still have to put in the work and I will get out what I put in. There are many many success stories where people lose all or nearly all of their excess weight but the stats have to figure in everybody including those to "eat around the band" and dont lose. You can do this and so can the rest of us on our current journies

Up and down a lot last night still, but I slept better late morning (didn't wake up until 10:30 wow) and now the fever is finally under control. I feel so much better. Thanks for all the 'get well cards'! Sorry for the whinefest...I just felt like a mess that day. Virus in my eye muscles...ewww! -BG

    Sleeved this morning!

Day 7 post-op and omg! I'm so dang hungry. I just chewed on a small piece of fajita chicken then spit it out before I could swallow it! Now having a cup of chicken broth. Can't believe that I have 7 more days of this. Can't have soft food until my follow up with the doctor. Good news? I'm down 10 pounds since pre-surgery.

    I am mad at myself..

Thank you Jessi - I am getting the idea that this is a very common issue in our age range. I have a friend who is a bombshell, tall, blonde, mid 40s and she was about ready to give up too.... It is like they are attracted to your looks but then you start to realize the emotional issues people have, how they often really have issues with women, aren't over their ex, are very negative... whatever the case may be. I am sure men have the same issues because I guess there is a reason we find ourselves single at this stage of life. I probably need to get over some of my criteria - i am simply not attracted to 95% of the men within 5-7 years of my age, but I don't want a young boyfriend playmate. I want someone who at least for awhile, is in a good relationship with me but he should be fit enough to keep up with me. I don't think that is asking alot, it isn't like I am a super athlete but I can do a 9-10 mile hike up and down a mountain and not alot of 50-60 year olds seem to be at that level. I get hit on alot... but so wildly inappropriate sometimes (Saturday night, it was a guy in his 20s!) but mostly so incredibly unattractive to me if they are near my age - usually way older actually (that also happened Saturday night). I need to get over that, but i can't help that i am just not drawn to someone who looks like santa claus (not fit, older looking, not youthful in attitude). I am being a brat i guess, but I would rather be solo than with someone who doesn't interest me. I don't think it is fair to even date guys that just don't attract me. Anyway, I am fine. I go dancing with a social group every week. I have a plan a plan to take actual dance lessons so I can do couples dancing more confidently. I am thinking about joining some organizations (I am not a big joiner really but my horse community is all women so i need to find groups with a better mix) of outdoorsy people because that is where I will find fit men my age. I do find them on the dating websites, and attract them okay, but I am not doing so well with picking the emotionally available ones... so far... 2 out of 2 have turned out to really be cut off from the possibilities of even becoming friends, in spite of their stated intentions. (BTW, it might be me - I get it - but they tell me they LIKE me and enjoy being with me so it is hard to know.) I think I just haven't found the right man for this stage of my life. Okay, I have vented enough. Carry on!

    I am mad at myself..

what a jerk he sounds like now! it is so friggin hard to find a suitably aged man (i'm 56) who is emotionally available and physically attractive and financially secure and not an axe murderer. i've been divorced for 10 yrs now, and dating has been like a second job since then, seriously. i found that the more i did it, the better i became at weeding out the ones that didn't work for me... i used to tease first dates about my "patented process". i've had several relationships since my divorce, all of them good but none of them great. eventually there would come a time when i realized that and i had to move on. i mean, even my ex-husband was "right" for me at one time... i've changed since i first got married, and i continue to do so, and therefore so do the qualifications for the right partner. luckily for me, i found him. he's adorable, intelligent, sexy and treats me like a goddess, but hasn't got a penny. i got over that and we have been living together happily ever after for the last year and a half. i feel incredibly lucky! i'm glad i didn't give up dating because i never would have found him. i tell myself that all the others between him and my ex husband were who i needed at the time, and that i wouldn't have been ready for him before i found him. what i mean is, the most important thing to look for in a relationship is that it satisfies you, whatever it is that you want, be it sex, affection, a travel companion, someone to hike with... and doesn't DISsatisfy you in a way that you choose not to accept. you did good. on to the next fool! they're all fools until you find the right one.

    Christmas Day--Oh my Lord-!

Merry Christmas to all who see's this page-!! Today I got a rude awakening of my old life. Me and my kids got invited by a family where we live at. I got to the party and "oh Lord"--not a skiiny or small Woman in sight. The only small people were the girls who were 11 to 15--except one. You would think this young "woman" was all of 25--she was just 14 and maybe somewhere about a size 22. I've seen her before--but never all of her relatives. I am so thankful for the "Lapband" surgery. I am now 50 and no one thought so. I just hit my 54 pounds loss plateau. I am not struggling at all--but I know I will miss a few of my Gym days--due to the kids being home and the Gym not having a full schedule. But I saw so many Women today who was so large. I mean--ladies who was no less than 16 and close to a size 30. Yes--I know ladies sizes from being married quite a few years. I had to just look and say "Wow"--to myself-! People asked me--why was I so quiet. I said--I don't drink or smoke. I don't play dominos with the guys--I find it boring. So I found myself in the living room watching TV with all of the larger ladies. Now I used to have a beer or 2 sometimes--but since the 6th month of my lap band post op--I had to re-think my theory on that "every now and then beer". I have just gotten to a point of true dedication but it still needs lots of work--trust me. I have one area that needs a boost. That area is me giving 5 days for the work out instead of 4 or 3. I have now made my schedule to move into weight lifting--light weights--trust me--but there will be some weights in my gym program as of Jan-3rd-2008.I am hoping to keep it at no more than 160 lbs. I don'twant to bulk up--I want to refine the muscles and keep the weight loss going as much as I can. As I close this little letter here. I was thinking--"Oh My God"--"Was this me back in the day? (10 months ago and before the surgery) I saw people piling the plates up-then asking me--"where is your food? I simply said--"Where can I put my food? I had the weight loss surgery--a few months ago". I heard--"oh--ok... But I saw the plates eaten that were piled up and then saw the same folks--warm up pie and cake. Then second plates and for some--3rd plates with the same consistancy. I almost dropped to my knees and said--"Thank You Lord--! I feel sooo much better now that I am lighter in weight. Now looking at the ladies & men who were 80% much younger than me--I know--my woirk has to get done and my new life will need lots of motivation to keep it going...Lee:scared::notagree

    4 days post opt!

I was sleeved on 2/19. I guess I have been very lucky in my first week. I have managed to get in all of my Vitamins, all of my Protein and fluids. I am down 11 pounds since surgery as of this morning. I am definitely ready to move on to my next stage of eating. My pain was controlled with pain medication early on. Yesterday I only took a pain pill before bed. I can now sleep on my sides. The worst for me is my skin on my stomach. Due to the dry heat in my house, I am itching terribly. Have called the Dr to see if I can use any lotion. For everyone having issues, hang in there! Get your protein and fluids in if at all possible. I am using Pure Protein powder (with Water only) and Premier shakes.

    Worried

I was sleeved on Sept. 10, so I am a little over 3 months out and that is about all I can do. About 5 bites and I am full....depending on how thick or dense the food it. My dr. told me that is normal and that at about 6 months I will do about 6-8 bites and then at a year I will be able to eat 3-4 ounces. He said then I will be maxed out and I should never do more than 3-4 ounces so I do not stretch my sleeve out. I'm curious to hear some of the other's advice. I know each dr. varies on what their expectations are. Good luck and God bless!
  19. Hey Losing me... my 19 km went really well. I took me 1 hour and 55 minutes. I took 3 short breaks to walk (1 was actually to pee!!!). On these long runs I take Water and a snack. I was tired after but not spent. My pace... yep I clock that... was 6:02 a km. So thanks for asking. How long is your turkey trot? You should be so proud of yourself!! 20. I got to the hospital at 9:00, surgery at 10:30. Sometime in there I saw the doctor and asked if I could go home and he said I could. Later while recovering, a nurse had told him that I had sleep apnea and had no one at home to take care of me. He called me a non-compliant patient. I did have someone at home and really wanted to go knowing I would be much more comfortable at home. He never rescinded the discharge so I spent the day with a wonderful nurse, got home at 6. Later when talking with the sleep doctor, I asked why I should have to spend the night if I had apnea. He told me that apnea patients were more likely to crash. I asked what that meant and he said:"Oh, stop breathing." I am glad I didn't crash and if I had it to do again, I would probably spend the night.

    QUESTIONS!

    1. I didn't have a pre op diet so I just had broth after I first got home and it wasn't just broth but broth, sugar free Jello, Protein shakes, v8 juice, Water...and I had no desire to eat so it wasn't miserable. 2. That will depend on your doc and his/her instructions. 3. I'm 3 months out and I don't snack. Snacking can lead to grazing and grazing to weight gain, so I just stick to my plan. I'm never hungry so the desire to snack has gone away which really helps. 4. My scars were all closed on the outside within 9-10 days except for my drain hole. That one took about 2wks to close. My scars are really tiny, but will probably remain dark purple for about a year then fade to a pink and hopefully disappear in the stretch marks like my gall bladder surgery scars did. 5. I don't have cravings...so that changed, but my taste buds completely changed. Before surgery cherry anything made me gag and throw up. Since surgery it's my favorite flavor! I also find that chocolate tastes like dirt...it did when I was pregnant too, but now it's all the time so I had to ditch all my chocolate protein shakes because of the taste. 6. It depends on where you go. I love sushi and sashimi so when we go out for like Chinese food, we'll go someplace that does Asian fusion and has sashimi. I'll have a couple pieces of that and maybe half of a crab Rangoon if I'm in the mood and that's about it. If I'm going to an Italian place, I'll look for a fish or something non breaded and take the rest home. If we are doing a burger place, I'll do a bun less burger with condiments on the side and give the fries away to the kids and take the rest of the burger home. You'll be surprised how long leftovers go. I had a ribeye steak one day and it lasted me 6 meals with plenty leftover for the dog. lol

    Did you lose your boobs?

Lol. Mine are going to be non existent when I am done... At this point I can already practically roll them up.... HW 420 SW 347 CW 334 Sleeved April 10, 2017
  23. It really depends on how large you are. It also depends on where you lose it from. It took me about 40 pounds to lose a size at first. Plus sizes are cut huge and honestly most people are squeezing into their clothes pre-op and are larger than the size they are wearing. In regular sizes I lose a size every 5 to 10 pounds depending on where the weight comes from.

    From the album: More Progress!

  25. Try not to weight yourself every day, you will go mad!!! I am on day 10 of the liquid diet, I lost 5 lbs drastically in 2 days, and was the same weight for 8 days, until this morning the scale magically dropped 5 pounds overnight. Do not worry at all, the weight will continue to come off. Be patient, and also remember after surgery you WILL stall but don't let this discourage you! Just like our minds need to catch up to the new us (taking more time grocery shopping, looking for new sizes clothes shopping, etc) our body needs to catch up with itself, and all of the changes going on internally.
