    Sleeved On 4/24

I was sleeved too on the 24! Still on liquids until wed then protein shakes n mushed cottage cheese and pureed creme of what ever soups. I weighed in on surf day at 290 and today I'm 264 woot woot lol..I'm Jenn by the way and this is my revision from the band
  2. Hey Lynn, we talked on OH, but I just wanted to welcome you over here. I'm USAF Wife over there. There's lots of revision patients over here that post pretty regularly. If you come across any questions, post away, we're here for you.
  3. Living with the band is a nightmare. Living with the sleeve is effortless. Get that band out and get a sleeve! There are many of us band to sleeve revisions and I don't know anyone who is sorry they did it!
  4. For y'all considering a revision, I can tell you that I wouldn't let someone put another band in for a million bucks. I was willing to live with some of the band issues, but when I read the stats on reslips, additional erosions, more port issues, I just couldn't risk it. I wanted only one more surgery and be done. The risk for another surgery with another band just scared me. With the damage the band did to my stomach, I honestly don't know if my stomach have supported another band. I know it can be removed, but at what cost. I love that the sleeve isn't reversible, and I honestly don't miss that big, stretchy stomach that allowed me to eat enormous amounts of food. It seems scary and drastic, but ending up fat for the rest of my life, or dealing with another band issue, was even more scary. Keep researching and reading around here. There's lots of stories out there of patients that went through the same thought process.

    REALISTIC WEIGHT LOSS

    Was that after a revision?
  6. Hello All, I hope someone can help me with my inquiry. I live in CA and I had two plastic surgeries: Circumferential body lift in August 2013 and Brachioplasty in December 2013 Unfortunately, I'm having issues with both surgeries. I started to have saggy skin around my tummy! and I have a problem with my brachioplasty surgery in which I have some strange skin folds under my arms! I still have two surgeries (thigh lift and breast lift) to do and I don't want to continue with the same doctor until I have a second opinion from other doctors here in CA (LA or around) Can someone kindly recommend for me any well known surgeons in CA who is specialized in post-weightloss plastic surgeries ? that I can consult with or even do the revision and other surgeries with? Appreciating your help pls. I really feel lost, sad and very depressed. especially that I'm new here and don't know whom to ask. Thanks,
  7. I was revised from band to rny same day on May 21, 2014. My band eroded. I was at goal when it eroded... I chose the revision based on these facts: 1. I was self pay and didn't want to pay to have another band placed and have it erode 6 years later like this one did 2. I have a blood clotting disorder and only wanted to have 1 final wls surgery 3. Seeing so many revisions from band or sleeve to rny made me choose rny , again only wanted 1 final surgery. 4. My doc said he is steering away from bands because of the high failure rate after 5 years. So those are my reasons for revisions... Getting information is key to making the right choice for you.. Oh and rny is soooo much easier than lapband was for me!!! I have no sliming, no throwing up, no having to look for a bathroom before I eat to be sure I can get there.. I have had no dumping, I eat whatever I want but I still stay away from rice pasta white bread and soda same as I did with the band.. I don't feel stuck either.. Wish I had done rny first! I love it.
  8. I had the band in 2010. I lost 80lbs and started having band issues. So, I had a revision April 15th best decision. No more worrying about my band.

    Newbie on here

I've been reading again for the same reason. I joined when I was banded back in 2007 long story short I lost some weight down to 224 band was too tight for a long time I gained to 246 and then had an unfill due to dilation so I gained up to 276 and now from there I'm sitting at 320. I had Fluid added back in last year, but all it has done is stop the weight gain. I visited another surgeon hoping to have a revision to sleeve. My insurance right now is UnitedHealthcare Plus Choice (something like that) my RN told me that if it was approached as a revision surgery I would have to show some kind of complication with the band which my doctor said would be slippage, erosion, or the band somehow failing mechanically, otherwise it would be treated as a new surgery and I would have to go through the 6 month supervised diet, psych evaluation, and would have to show a 5 year history of heights and weights from a doctor to prove a history of being morbidly obese. Because I haven't had complications my surgeon believes that it is likely my insurance will deny the request for revision and possible deny it as a new surgery because I don't have the 5 year weight history I need so right now I'm looking into self pay options. I hope your insurance will approve you and you can get the sleeve. I've also struggled with feeling like I failed so I understand that. If I had just found the money to go back and get the band unfilled instead of living with it being too tight I might've kept losing weight. I just try to learn from it.

    Newbie on here

Thank you all. My doc office said my band has slipped. They say I meet all the criteria for revision just that my bmi is 30 which they say is the only issue but they think they can get the insurance to pay. I have the 3 month wait with the psych eval. So far I've only waited 2 weeks I hope I find out sooner than 3 months. Reading all the success stories is very inspiring. I hate having all these old obsessive thoughts again. Plus I have a closet full of clothes and heels that don't fit! Lol. Thank you Janelle. I will email you.
  11. Revision as in re do the RYN; or from sleeve to RNY? I had the re-do of RNY. I did not feel particularly weak. If you take your Water and Protein, you should be fine. The burning fat should provide energy. But, after major surgery, of course you won't feel 100%! Yard work, routine house work after 6 days post op is not reasonable. You need time to heal and acclimate; but if you temper yourself, you shouldn't feel so bad.
  12. If the sleeve goes well, it's great. But if the sleeve goes badly, it's much, much worse than a band that's gone badly... For what it's worth I originally wanted the sleeve (badly) but after doing a lot of research, the decision came down to a numbers game... -- The mortality rate for the sleeve is 1/200... Mortality rate for the band is 1/2000. -- Sleeve complications are MUCH MUCH worse than band complications... 1% of the people who get the sleeve have a leak, and those who do are in agony, in and out of the hospital for up to 5-6 months at a time, and say they regret the surgery (search leak on verticalsleevetalk.com and see what that's like for them...) -- roughly 1/3 of the people who get bypass or sleeve gain it back with no other option afterwards than to get the band on top of their cut-up stomach (i.e. carny wilson) The sleeve seems to be a fabulous option when it works! But the risk that it could turn out to be a total disaster is also much higher. I have a 4-year old daughter and don't feel like I have the right to gamble lightly with something that might take me out... If the band works, then I'm done with only a minimally invasive surgery and no cutting up of my organs. People do have problems with the band, and if I were one of those people I might consider the sleeve as a revision. But a lot of people are also successful with the band, and for me, it didn't make sense not to at least try it and hope it works!!!

Low carb or everything in moderation?

I had the sleeve, not bypass. I do carbs in moderation. I have not had bread since July because I just haven't wanted it but have had Pasta once or twice and I eat lots of fruit which has carbs. I also have sweet potatoes once in a while. There is almost nothing I deprive myself of completely. I've lost almost 80 pounds since July and am about 10 pounds from my the goal weight I set at the beginning...though I am revising that down another 10 pounds or so based on how I look. 14. I did it in June with a 16 month old who weighed 30+ pounds at the time. I sat on the floor as much as possible so he could come to me and changed him on the floor. My partner was very helpful and did most of the work. I was lucky enough that I healed quickly and was able to pick him up for short periods of time after only 2 weeks. It was 4 weeks until I could hold him as much as I used to. The biggest problem I had was avoiding his accidentally hitting my incisions. If you have the help and can stick to the restrictions, do it. Everyone talks about how much better the sleeve is than the band. Before I had the revision, I knew it would be better, but thought they were exaggerating (sp?). They weren't. It is a MAJOR difference that has changed my life and helped me reach my goal in just 3 months.
  15. I have a 14 month old ... If approved for band to sleeve revision he will be 15 months, walking and about 24 pounds. I know you can't lift 20 pounds for 4-6 weeks.... Do you think 4 pounds makes that big a difference after about 3-4 weeks post op? I know I have to ask my doc and I will... But has Anyone dared to do this with a toddler??? Thanks as always!!!!

    Need some feedback

Well I was banded in 2008, and my band did more harm than good, eventually I was converted in 2011 to a sleeve. I thought my acid reflux would go away but it has gotten worse and I know know have Barret's esophagus. If I would've listened I would've had the bypass done from the very beginning I never really did lose much weight with the band and only minimal with the sleep. I have been to many support groups and I've noticed that the band is useless and almost every single person that I've met in a group has had a revision to either a sleeve or bypass and those who've had the sleeve continue to have issues with the acid if not worse like me but for those who had the bypass could not be happier. I'm hoping to hear from my new surgeon to see if I will get the bypass and give me some relief from my terrible acid reflex. I wish you luck Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Any regrets?

I was banded in 2001 and revised to a banded plication in 2011. I wish I would've revised to a sleeve then. I had considered it but don't think I was quite ready. So like others - I wish I would've done it sooner. I'm about 2 1/2 weeks post op and feel great!

Can you compare restriction band to sleeve?

I am 11 weeks post-op. I remember that stuck feeling with the band. It made me stop eating immediately and after suffering for a bit I would usually go throw up and meal time would be over. I also remember how good it felt if the stuck food actually passed through. It was like total relief. All of that is gone. It does not happen anymore. I also don't feel the port anymore in my abdomen. I had the band for 10 years so I was used to all of those feelings that come with the band. It is really nice having it out of me. I hated that lump in my stomach and explaining it to doctors that were examining me for something unrelated to it. I also want to say that it worked for me for 8 years perfectly. I lost 100 lbs with it in a years time and maintained that for 7 years. I didn't have the problems that lots of other banders have had. I started gaining weight about 2 years ago and I noticed that I could eat alot more. I developed problems that I have talked about in my profile section under my story if you care to read it there. So, I had the sleeve revision in March. It was painful for me. I was hurting bad for about a week. Now that the incisions have healed and my stomach is far along with the healing process, I have become very satisfied with it. It was about 4 weeks post-op and I was into the solid foods portion of the plan that I noticed "restriction" for the first time. It was painful to me. This is not the stuck feeling of restriction from the band, it is a painful feeling from your stomach saying "No More Room". I stopped eating right then and after about 30 minutes it passed. My stomach was still healing and I pushed it too far with food. I then became more diligent with my portion control. I am now 11 weeks post-op and I do not feel any pain at all. I feel full. It is a full feeling that I used to get way before all of this. The problem is that in my head I can see that I have not eaten very much and I think that I should eat more, but my stomach won't let me. When my band failed I was able to eat much more, and I did, and I regained the weight. Now I have to retrain my head again to think that I have eaten enough. I eat less than my 3 year old foster daughter. She thinks it's funny because we eat from the same kind of plate. One of those little plastic child plates that are sectioned off into small portions like a tv dinner tray. She gets a kick out of watching daddy eat using her pink kids plate. The only difference is that she gets dessert after dinner and I don't because I am full and can't eat anymore. Good luck to you.
  19. I'm almost 2 months post op revision to the sleeve. I do not get that stuck feeling. I get more of the full feeling and a hiccup. I do not over eat or even try. I have read ppl on here say they can eat and eat. I have no desire to even try. I prob eat 1/2 cup at most.
  20. I'm new here and want to have revision surgery from band to sleeve at the end of the month. I'm trying to decide between Dr. Garcia and Dr. Illan. Would anyone be willing to share their thoughts about th, as well as your results so far? Thank you.
  21. Hi, I had to have revision surgery to re-stich my port after it flipped. I dont' know how it flipped, but it just came undone about 2 months after surgery.
  22. the old realize band was redesigned because of kinks in the band when filled. the revision looks great until you see it fill. my dr uses air to demonstrate. the lapband has these little pillowed sections that prevent kinking. it looks engineeringly right. (I know that isn't a word, but, it works.) i'm going with that one. good luck.

    I'm a Misfit Amongst Misfits

I have been reading other people's blogs and am happy for every single one of you who have posted pictures of you rafting, hiking or cycling yourselves to a new you. I'm also incredibly jealous because that will never be me. The spirit is more than willing, but the body just isn't able. For sure I'm going to be able to do more things than I have been able in years but my success will be more moderate: I will be able to walk to the store two days in a row. I will be able to walk two days in a row. What I find frustrating is the people at the clinic don't seem to get it. I appear to be a misfit among the misfits of society. I keep being assured that my life will change so much, which I don't doubt, but I wonder if they have any clue of what my life is like? Will the band magically let me hold a pencil long enough to write a letter? Will I be able to play my violin or harp again? The psych lady I met yesterday was all impressed how I seemed to know my body much better than the average person and that learning the rules of the band would be a breeze for me. The truth is that for years, one small lapse in thought and I've popped something in my mouth that will lead to hours of gut wrenching pain or my eyes swelling shut. Push myself too hard and I'm bedridden for days. She seemed really nice and wanting to help while we chatted for our 35 minute hour, but she specialises in anorexia, bulemia and overeating... I wonder if she knows much about people who've grown old before their time. Then again, it was the first session... I'm hoping that a few more sessions will get us all on the same page. I'm really looking forward to working with the chiropractor they have on staff. Ontario's major failing in health care is that if it can't find something specifically wrong, it won't fix it or expend the energy to see what can be done for you. When one of the foremost rhumatologists in Toronto tells you "wow, your life must suck, but there's nothing I can do about it" you tend to lose heart. I've not been able to afford private physiotherapy, massage therapy or the chiropractic care I probably could use, so I've gone without. I didn't want to risk getting addicted to a therapy I couldn't do long term. How dumb is that? So apparently for the next year or so I'm being offered unlimited access to this guy. After me, they may want to revise that policy. Usually I'm not so much of a whiner... I promise I'll be more upbeat next time. In the meantime, keep posting the canoeing pictures. Even though I can't do it myself, that doesn't mean I don't like seeing others have fun.

    September 26th 2013 anyone!?

I am near Utica. I am going for a revision from band to sleeve on the 24th.
  25. I am just being curious when it comes to the port. I read a lot of people have to go in and get their port revised is that pretty normal after having the band on for so long? I am 8 weeks post op don't think mine has flipped but I do always have pain if I sit to long, sometimes my jeans bother me, and can't sleep on my stomach and that's my favorite position. I constantly thinking if I bend to much are strain myself its gonna flip.
