  1. I'm right there with you guys! Had my sleeve jan 9th and have not lost anything in almost 4 weeks! Saw a 2nd doctor, sleeve is larger than a normal sleeve so I'm having an endoscopy to see how bad the scar tissue really is....if it's not bad, he said he would go in and sleeve me properly, if not, he touched briefly on a bypass!! The question is insurance.....I'm not heavy enough to justify a bypass but he may be able to call it a revision/repair. I'm so confused and seriously feel like a failure. Some girls at my work know I went I for this and the day I came back to work, they looked at me like wow but not in a good way. One girl was sleeved and lost 100 lbs in about a year...she pulled me aside and seriously asked if everything was ok then she gave me her doctors number!! I've worked so hard and the scale is not moving. Has anyone actually submitted to their insurance after finding out they had a failed sleeve? Any magic words? Thanks guys...I appreciate the support...I never thought after this sleeve I would be stalled 3 months post????

    LAP-Band Veteran HELP!

I cannot comment on converting from band to sleeve...can't hurt...any WLS is better than none... If I read your posts correctly, the band got tight after cosmetic surgery...I can understand that. So, the Dr. did a complete un-fill....I can understand that also. But then you got pregnant....after which you never went back to get Fluid put back in your band?? If that's the case, then your band is doing nothing....it is to most people as though it's not there at all.... Whether it's Lap band surgery, or the sleeve, or whatever, it is apparent that WLS is needed for us to loose weight and keep it off... Good luck on your revision to the sleeve...I'd be curious how it all works out.
  3. I feel no restriction and can easily eat a lot since my revision. I did try calling and going to see my doctor and the result was them making me feel like it was my fault. I left there in tears and won't go back.
  4. Now I am getting scared. I will have revision surgery this summer. I was banded in 09 and lost 75# and had trouble since '10. Gained 30#back. I am allegic to codine so oxidcodone or hydrocodone is out of the question. I know my port is going to be a problem. Last time I had a fill there was so much scare tissue that it was hard to get a needle in. I look forward to starting a new but not the pain. Here's to a new start and lost weight. Good luck and keep us posted,
  5. I lost about 70# with the lapband but regained it all PLUS after I had problems and had to have Fluid removed. When I revised to the sleeve - 10 years later, i was bound and determined to get the support I needed this time. Your post is a good lesson for all of us. This is NOT about just getting surgery and living happily ever after, it is WORK forever. I also don't think this is just about emotional eating. Obesity CHANGES our bodies forever, we can never go back to eating "like a normal person"

Well that went better than expected. He seems to think that I may be one who does not tolerate fills. He did half a cc And we will go back in 6 weeks. If I have any more issues we will likely go for a rny revision.

    March 2015 Surgery!

My surgery was Mar. 18. I had an open revision, so I have an incision. The surgeon used adhesive instead of staples, so it is uncomfortable, but not as bad as staples. I've had other surgeries, first time without staples! I actually feel very good. My first followup appointment is next week. I did have a "why on Earth did I do this?" day 5 days after surgery. I was a crying mess. I hadn't slept well since the surgery, partly because I had a low grade fever, and was getting chills and sweats. Oh, and I was in pain! I take anxiety meds , so I took an anxiety pill, and some liquid tylenol for the fever, and I finally slept well. The next morning I felt SO much better. I have to be on full liquids for a total of four weeks. The surgeon just recently changed that policy. It used to be two weeks, but I don't mind, because I am so afraid I will mess this up! . I just want to heal well. They said I would be sore in my upper left part of my abdomen , because that is where they cut the muscle, and it does hurt there, but only if I am up doing something. I'm alternating between Protein drinks, and yogurts, with some broth once in a while. I'm disabled, so it is painful for me to stand long enough to blend and strain Soups, but I've done it a couple of times. I had strained french onion Soup once, and it was a nice change, but the thing I microwaved it in smelled like onions for a while!!! I hope you are all feeling well. I have one more pound to lose to get into the 2s!!!!

    Seromas

Realistic expectations are key - but it is a real bummer the complications a few of you have had. I am about 18 months post plastics and love my "Body by Sauceda" as his fan club likes to call it. I will share my disappointment/unrealistic expectations but it is a bit graphic. Ok, some skin is really badly broken down. You can tell by looking at it.. it is just creppy, full of stretch marks, not nice. I was afraid my arms were unsaveable since I had arm stretch marks from when I was a kid! I have very thin, delicate skin and I never imagined my arms could look as good as they turned out. When I had the lower body lift the surgeon addressed the "mons" area but they have to be careful to not go crazy and give you the credit card slot look (gross!). Also, the mons area is prone to stretching out post surgery due to the poor quality of the skin. So, what happened to me is that area got really really stretched out when I was obese but I didn't realize it until I had the lift. My pubic hair zone got bigger due to the stretching so I decided to do some hair removal. How awful that skin looks became really apparent when there was no hair to hide it. Okay, as part of that becoming just a little obsessed with how that looks, I started having a meltdown and thinking I needed a revision and perhaps the thigh lift too. Hell, maybe a butt implant or something too. Then I had a "whoa whoa whoa" moment with myself. My results from weight loss and plastics far exceeded my wildest of dreams and here I am nitpicking. I know both from photographic evidence and feedback from others that my body looks way better than the average American 50 year old and after a lifetime of obesity who can really expect more? So, I have started using a bronzer/tanner on the newly revealed mons area and it looks better, the stretch marks and weird looking skin is "softened". It is so strange to me that I thought i would be freaked about the scarring, and i am not - and in reality I became negative about something that really isn't that bad. I don't want more plastics, I don't need more plastics. I will never be perfect but I have met my objective which is to feel and look "normal" - the hot factor was a bonus.

@@BethinPA Wow, that's a long time to deal with that! I had doxycycline injected into mine, but it didn't help. I would think a drain would help you. Honestly, that's hardly even a problem to deal with. Because the seroma I had wasn't just one big cavity, that didn't work for me. It didn't help that it was at the bend of my knee, so the cannula bent and stopped working. Do you have a capsule? Mine did, which is why it had to be opened up and excised. It is such a bummer to go through all of this, only to have a less than optimal outcome. Like now I have a bigger scar in that area than I would have had. Also, I still need some liposuction in my outer thighs, and I'm going to need a revision of my butt lift because that skin drooped, too. And you'll need a revision for stretched skin....ugh for us! But I still would do it again, and I do think it was worth it. I just think that my skin has NO elasticity, so I have to be realistic with my expectations. Some parts of me fared better than others. You just can't be 52 with a 30 year history of morbid obesity and expect to have no visible signs of it.
  10. Since 2001 I've have a laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication, an exploratory laparoscopic surgery, a revised Nissen Fundoplication and a laparoscopic hysterectomy. My surgeon planned on my surgery being a 2 hour laparoscopic RNY and hiatal hernia repair, but my surgery switched to an open after 9 hours as a lap. The extra 7 hours of lap time was due to adhesions. The switching to an open was due to how fragile my pouch tissue was (due to the Nissen), it became difficult to attach my small intestine to it. In total the surgery went over 12 hours.
  11. Well I'm one week post revision and I'm very thrilled the band is gone. Of course surgery is surgery and I'm trying to find my feet and level out. I am very surprised by how little I eat and drink. I really do have to make myself drink. It helps to have my husband stay on top of this with me. I'm still sleeping a lot, constipation has been a HUGE issue until I took a laxative and now I can't hardly stop, lol. Which makes me shaky and wobbly. I'm sure it's because I'm getting dehydrated very quickly, so more drinking. Oh and major major HALLELUJAH, NO INDIGESTION ! I am pleased add I can be, just slowly getting over the hurdles and I know,I will. Best wishes and prayers for you on your journey. O:-)

I'm glad things are going so well!! Are you able to start exercising yet? I still have my seroma, and the surgeon drains me weekly, last week it was 105 mls. It's not really going down very quickly at all. He says that if we are still doing the weekly draining by the end of the summer (!), there is a procedure that he would want to do to hopefully resolve this. I can't imagine still having this 5 months from now. But regardless, once the seroma resolves and the swelling goes down, he will revise the front, because the seroma stretched the skin out. This feels like an endurance test! But I have started walking and being more active again, which I really needed. At some point I will think this was all worth it, but God only knows when that will be!

Are you thinking of revising to the sleeve ? Unfortunately there are no guarantees but there have been many who have done amazing with the sleeve after the band, I wish I had been one of them.

Band to sleeve in one procedure

I just had my revision 3 weeks ago- it was a one shot deal but my doc said I had a lot of scar tissue around my bad which was probably a result of throwing up so often. He removed the scar tissue and I feel great!

Band to sleeve in one procedure

I'm curious - because I was banded in 2009 and haven't had much success (about 25 lbs lost) - is this the reason most are going from band to sleeve? Or does there have to be a band malfunction of some sort for insurance to cover this? I just found out that I will have to have my gallbladder out. I'm going to the doctor next week to discuss the ultrasound they did. I'm thinking I might talk to him about revision surgery. But if there has to be a band slip or something of that nature I guess I wouldn't be covered :-/

    Anybody Stricture!

How are you doing? I had a stricture at 7 weeks out. It was 97% closed and I couldnt eat anything but yogurt and cottage cheese without pain. They did the balloon stretching but perforated the stricture. I had open emergency surgery so they could revise the opening. It definitely wasnt fun at all.

@@BethinPA I am about healed, thanks for asking. I have a small open area the size of a Q-tip (cotton part) and the seroma is totally gone. I'm so relieved. I actually had tunneling that was nearly a foot in length, and a very large capsule. I don't think it would have ever healed without opening it up like that. I am now dealing with some swelling in my lower leg and foot that I didn't have before the last surgery, but I saw her yesterday, and she said she doesn't think it's anything to worry about. Surprisingly, the scar is not much worse than the original one, at least so far, so it might not even need revision. How is your seroma? Are you healed? I read somewhere on another thread that it stretched your skin?? Maybe it will shrink back down. Hope you are feeling better.
  18. Check out my post "where are the other strugglers?" On the band to sleeve board for a few other stories about those having a hard time with the revision.
  19. I have also been struggling. I've lost 15 lbs. since my band to sleeve revision (Jul 2015). I had the band for 8 years and kept off 88 lbs. I have ben hungry since day 3 after surgery. I can easily eat twice as much as I used to with the band. I've been exercising, but probably not as much as I need to. My doctor told me that there wasn't any permanent damage from the band. I am seriously thinking about the bypass. I also need a tool to help me, and the past 8 months have been the most frustrating of my life. Best of luck to you.
  20. I have read many posts on different boards of people that revised to sleeve and were successful. I researched for about 2 years knowing that my band would have to come out eventually (due to common band issues). It seems to be working pretty easy for me. I am down 16 lbs in 3 weeks since surgery 3/9/15. I am not sure about the esophageal issues you had affecting your "fullness" feeling. For me it has been a different full feeling... it is in my stomach, not barfing of sliming. Most people say that the sleeve is what they wished the band had been. Truly permanent and effective. The biggest benefit for me has been being satisfied on such tiny amounts. I can only eat about 2 ounces of soft foods right now, and I am done. Literally, done like I cant eat another bite. I know this amount will increase to 4-6 oz but like you I was 100% successful with the band and know what foods to eat when my capacity increases. As to the pouch size, it is not true at all that they have to make it bigger if you were banded.. in fact I have never heard that before. I had severe damage, and had to wait for 5 months after band removal to let my stomach heal, and my Dr. used a 32 bougie on me. It is also not reversible as someone was apparently told, lol.
  21. I have to go tomorrow for a ultra sound,my doctor says I have gull stones.I was also banded in 2008,and now I am thinking about the sleeve.I have a small leak in my band and need something else done.If I need my gallbladder out I would like the band fixed or removed and sleeve done at the same time.Dr.says it shouldn't be a problem unless alot of scar tissue.Very Very nervous-Any infro on this and also does anyone know about insurance with the revision?I have Pomco for my insurance now,Has anyone else used Pomco for the revision?Any infro about anything to do with the revision, recovery, ins,or just overall info would be helpful.Thank you!!!

    FAILED GASTRIC SLEEVE SURGERY

My current weight is 180, my BMI is 30.9, my highest weight ever was 260, I know after living with a very restrictive band for so long that my body got used to less calories, I'm willing to do my part, I still go to Crossfit 3x a week and try hard to eat right, but I know I need a tool and right now I don't have one. Iv had a continuous slow gain since I revised to sleeve, it's just a matter of time until I put it all back on if I don't do this.

Band07 i have to ask, why would you possibly do a revision to a bypass with only 30 pounds left to lose? i would honestly, and again this is just me, slap any doctor i found that would agree to that surgery. Even if you fel you cannot maintain.

"picky eaters" - my pet peeve

@@Cleo's Mom, that's exactly why I'm jumping through the hoops again for conversion to RNY instead of the sleeve. After being burned with the lap-band, I don't trust projected outcomes anymore. And I'm sure as hell not going to suffer with the band for another year or more, waiting to see if the sleeve is going to be as good as the projections predict. The lack of proven long-term stats on the sleeve, the number of people I've seen posting about getting revisions to RNY, and the fear of GERD (I lived with severe GERD for longer than I should have with my first band) has made my decision for me. I can't live with the band anymore, so I've got to do something NOW.

He is in Mexacali, I think it's $7900. He is one of the more expensive but what I found was he had the most experience with revisions. I have seriously OBSESSIVELY researched for a couple months now and I would never even consider Almanza personally. From what I've found the best of the best in Mexico are Wilhelmy, Corvela, Ramos-Kelly, and I'm going with Rodriguez in Juarez. The self-pay/Mexico forum on here is VERY helpful, just put in the surgeons name and you will find tons of reviews. If money is why you are considering Almanza, I think the Ramos Kelly is very reasonable and also Dr. Illan who I also think is probably very good but got a lot of bad publicity because of his coordinator, you can read through the drama for yourself if you would like there is A LOT of it and its definitely a soap opera but in the end, i could not find anything or anyone to say he was not a great surgeon and I think he is probably in the $4k/$5k range.
