awww...you are so beautiful...really motivates me to get this band and lose this weight!!! Great Job!
  2. Hi All, I am being banded in NYC on Dec. 29th by Dr. Kurian. I just finished reading all the posts that occurred after I posted and it made me feel so good and so postive (until I got to Jimmy's unfortunate episode). I was wondering if anyone knows the numbers on surgery problems? Is it common or a fluke if the band slips or a person becomes totally blocked? Does it depend on the experience of the surgeon. I guess you have figured out that I very nervous--not about the surgery, but about being able how to figure out how to eat without PBing. Is PBing just unpleasant or can a person actually choke? I have read twice on these posts that no questions are dumb, and please forgive me if this is not so UP! Really, I am excited about the thought of REAL and lasting weight loss. I have another question: I take lots of Vitamins and three medications. How do you take pills that need to be taken with food if you don't drink while eating? Many thanks for all of your encouragement. It is admirable that those of you have already seen your way to living successfully with the band take the time to guide the rest of us. Sultana

    I have no idea

You have to hold up your end of the bargain. That means tracking your protein, drinking your water, taking your vitamins, and going to your doctor's appointments. That's just being an adult who takes care of their responsibilities resulting from choices they made (i.e. Having surgery). You don't have time to track protein? I don't believe you. It takes a minute. Your hair falling out is partly not in your control, but a small part could be lack of protein and vitamins - you can't know unless you are following the rules. As far as exercise is concerned, it doesn't really play a huge part in weight loss, but it is vital for overall health and wellbeing. Take a walk everyday. If you have a family, have them walk with you. It'll benefit everyone. My advice is suck it up and stop sabotaging your health.

I hear you. I had surgery on the 24th and my back still aches, much more so than my front. I'm thoroughly tired of clears and fantasize about yogurt and cottage cheese. Still, I'm down 4 lbs already from my pre-op weight and that has me really excited. Hang in there! We'll both be looking back on this in a few weeks and laughing.
  5. Thank you. I hope bcuz I'm getting better at eating and keeping my food down its not a close case of me losing weight. I know some people still have issues eating and they're at their 2nd or 3rd year. I'm up to my 2month and I can eat without a problem. And yes, after these bags are done, no more of these snacks. I even bought "light" to make it fair. Lol! Thanks again Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app
  6. @scoutmom... hi we are very similar. I had the sleeve in 2015. I had also gained back 40lbs because I had such bad GERD which turned to Barrett’s Esophagus and all I wanted to eat was comforting carbs. So I just had revision surgery 8 weeks ago to the bypass. I have lost 29lbs so far. The eating seems easier than after the sleeve, I’m progressing really well, even eating chicken. I don’t have that hard stop that I had with the sleeve so I weigh and measure everything. I did get thrush after surgery which was something I was told was common after that surgery, so be aware of that. I can drink very well, unless I gulp too fast or too much. You’re going to do great and I’m sure you may be nervous but all will go well. I’ll keep you in my thoughts and prayers for a successful surgery and a quick recovery. Good luck!!

I have been having problems with my insurance company. They approved the doc I was going to use 10 min from my house and 1 week out from surgery they decided to turn down using that doctor and instead go 4 hours south to ucla med. The doc there is trying to convince me that the bypass would be better for me because he said that over all you will loose 5% more weight loss over all. I have a final pre op appointment tomarow and then submit to insurance company again. Surgery scheduled for may 6th now if insurance douse not change there mind again
  8. I'm not a revision, but I've been hanging out on various forums for the last six or seven years. A lot of people lose about 20-ish lbs after a revision, but it depends a lot on how much weight you need to lose. There are some people who've lost a lot more than that.
  9. I am having a revision from VSG to RNY on 9/15 due to severe GERD....can anyone share their experience on weight loss post revision? A little history: I had my sleeve done in 2015 and loved it. Easy recovery and great results. For the past year, I developed severe ACID reflux and Gerd with a hiatal hernia. Unfortunately, I gained 40 lbs back. So much of this was due to the fact that if my sleeve was empty the acid was so much worse. So I started eating tons of carbs to keep the acid soaked up. I didn't catch it soon enough so the weight gain continued. I am very excited to get rid of the GERD, but also want to get a realistic weight loss goal in my plan. How much did you lose after your revision?
  10. Surgery is certainly giving you an excellent opportunity to lose wait and keep it off. Because, however, far too many people think that it's the magical answer and I don't know if you are one of that group, I will say that maintaining weight loss isn't guaranteed. It takes diligence forever. People lose and regain because they all sorts of reasons. You need to know this if you want success happily ever after. 11. I was checked for leaks before discharge from the hospital. I believe this is S.O.P. so you won't have to worry unless you overeat until you hurt yourself - you have total control over this happening or not happening. If you develop GERD then you might have to take an antacid, maybe even daily. GERD is extremely manageable so how big a deal is adding a capsule or tablet to deal with it going to impact your life? Statistically, at your weight, the chances of not making it out are so low that I couldn't find stats on it. (The procedure overall yes - but it seems most of the *VERY FEW* overall fatalities during surgery were among those with a BMI over 75.) WLS doesn't cure obesity or food issues. You can choose healthier ways to manage your stress than putting more or the wrong food in your mouth. Before you have surgery you can start putting a plan in place to help you learn alternate ways of dealing with life. Hope that helps.*HUGS*

    STILL GET HUNGRY ?

Feeling hungry is perfectly normal and especially if you are living a healthy lifestyle that includes intense exercise. I had gastric bypass in Oct of 2013. My highest weight was 368 pounds and i was wearing a size 48 jean and 4x shirt. Today 9 months later I am 195 pounds and my jean size is 30-32. My shirt size is medium. I have dedicated myself to a healthy life style that includes intense workouts including both weight lifting and cardio. Feeling hungry is perfectly normal, the trick is to teach yourself to choose the right food to feed that hunger. Eat smaller portions more frequently every two or three hours and make sure that protein is your main food source. Limit your sugar intake. A diet with high sugar intake is a diet with high calorie intake. Keep up the good work!!

    food rant

Jeff Garlin's book My Footprint really helped me with realizing how I felt about food. He's a really famous comedian and writer who has struggled with his weight for a long time.

I promise you, some time in the next couple of weeks you'll be shocked you even thought this. You'll feel full eating small meals, you'll get your energy back (in fact, you'll have more energy as you won't be carrying around as much weight) your friends will start to notice your weight loss and shower you in compliments, and you will think getting sleeved is the best thing you've ever done. Just tough out this difficult yet short period and things will be ok
  15. You won't really lose weight if you don't eat enough food. You have to have the fine balance of what your body needs and don't under-eat nor over-eat. Plus, keep walking. I lost 47 pounds from April - Oct. after getting my band, now have maintained that for over a year and a half, only ready to get the next 20 pounds off. For me it now is up to exercise mostly. My band is only a tool, I still have to work hard at this just like before. hang in there!
  16. I'm having the same frustration and I'm a week out from my banding. I think that our bodies are adjusting and that they will eventually line out. I was excited on Friday to see that I was down 2 lbs from my pre-surgical weight only to find this morning that they're back. I just keep plugging away and figure that my body will eventually catch-up to what is going on. It just takes some time. Plus, we won't have our first fills for a while, so that's when the REAL restriction starts. Right now is just practice.

    Out To Eat

Check out this site: exercise4weightloss.com and then click on restaurants. It is geared toward weight watchers but it is a fabulous site for restaurant nutritional facts in one place. I always consult it on my iPad before ordering.

    Hey everyone!

I'm new here, this is my first post. I was banded Jan19, 2007 in Little Rock. My doc was Dr. Clay Wellborn. I am excited already about my weight loss. I went in for my pre-op a few days before surgery weighing in at 298. I weighed this morning and I am at 287. Nice start, huh? I'm sure it will slow down, but that OK. I am still really sore from the surgery. Does anyone have any tips on what I can eat during my liquid phase besides broth and smoothies? :help: I am so glad to find this site, I hope to make lots of new friends:p
  19. Does anyone fear not losing weight with VSG? Or that you won't lose enough to make the surgery worth it? Or fear that you'll mess up with postop eating? Overall I'm feeling pretty set on having surgery, I just have these fears swirling around. Has anyone had surgery and felt like they didn't lose enough to make it worth it? Or that people didn't notice? I'm not sure how much I want to lose, but considering my starting point, I would benefit from losing 150-200lbs, which seems so daunting and honestly, nearly impossible. Any insight is much appreciated.

Fear of not losing enough weight

I had mine right at 10 weeks ago today, and I constantly have that fear. I've seen friends who were successful at it and some who weren't. I just try to keep a clear mind about it. I lost 120lbs on my own years ago (in 2011) but gained it all but 5lbs back. It taught me a lesson!!
  21. I am very much afraid of all of those things and I use that fear to keep me following the rules that my surgeon and dietician laid down for me. I also read the posts here from people who are having trouble losing weight due to their poor eating choices, or dealing with re-gain, and I use those posts to keep the fear burning. Sometimes fear is a healthy thing. I am like you and also need to lose somewhere between 150-200 from my starting weight. My terror of not doing it has kept me on track and I am down 145 lbs so far. While I am afraid of somehow stopping losing, my rational brain knows that if I stay on track and follow the very rigid rules laid down for me, I will lose the weight I need to lose. So far my weight loss has been very steady and I feel like I am getting closer and closer to my goal.
  22. I was wondering the people who was revised from the lapband to gastric sleeve did you still have to do the 6 month weight lost management to be approved? I'm having sooooo many complications with my lapband and I'm hoping I don't have to wait 6 months. I need this band out asap.
  23. Hi all, I was sleeved on June 26th, 2015. I started my journey in March after my 39 birthday. I finally told myself I am not going into my forties with this weight. Along the road there were nay sayers and supporters. I am now 4 days post op. I started full liquids so I am drinking cream soups high in protein. Feeling pretty good. However I noticed white stuff on my face. I read that some patients will have an increase in acne. Has anyone experienced this?

  25. Hey Gary - I belong to Kaiser in Richmond, CA and from what I hear they are #4 in the nation for their bariatrics department. What I was told is: as long as you stay below the 25lb weight loss requirement it doesn't matter what you do - just don't gain weight. The night before surgery stop eating by 6 and not even Water past midnight. the purpose of the initial weight loss is to shrink you liver as the band needs to be placed directly beneath it - they need the room to work LOL. Since you've lost what they needed you to, you're fine - no liquid diet required. You gain weight in your core region first so that is why it is important that you don't gain any weight between now and the 9th. I am not banded yet - my date is the 14th and this is the information we all get at our facility. BEST OF LUCK!
