  1. Reigo i used to think, "if i'm gonn eat too much of something - a Protein Bar sounds ok' full of protein right??? true, its full of protein, and if i could have one on a certain day and stop, it would be ok but i can't stop at just one!!!! i do get hooked i'm still working on it at my request 6'2 DH puts bars way up high where i can't reach them, then he'll give me one when i ask the other mid-day, i actually pulled a chair to the pantry and stood up on a chair to get the bar!!!!! NSV - i was always afraid to get up on a chair - if i fell with allllll this weight unfortunately this is not an NSV i want to repeat as OP have said - protein bars are like candy/crack do they have a special protein bar rehab place?? maybe they should - lots of us would join and get to meet other addicts kathy

    My awesome NSV!!

Cheers Melanie! That's a great NSV, congratz! I think it might be time to clean my closets again . . . but I think I'm like babedoe4 . . . I'm used to those big sizes, they are a security blanket. BUT . . . there's NO going back this time! :rolleyes2:

    NSV :o)

That's amazing! Congratulations on all of your victories! For me, NSVs include clothing sizes going down (from 28 in jeans to 24), more energy, and less medication. Had a doctor's appointment on Tuesday and he's very happy with my progress. My GP gave me a big hug because she was so happy for me and said I seemed so much more positive. I'm starting to look forward to my walks (HUGE victory there!) and I won't skip Water aerobics for anyone! I've got a great counselor who is helping me work through all of my emotions... Well, that list could go on and on. I really do feel like this was absolutely the right decision for me! CJ

    NSV :o)

Hey everyone ... I am so very excited about my NSV that I had to share with those who understand it best ! I used to wear a size 4xl shirt ... now I'm in an XL ! I'm down 6 pant sizes ... and from a 46 to 40 in my bra ! ( oopsy .. sorry guys! ) Had my 3 month check up yesterday ... doc says all is going along according to plan and they are very proud of the progress I've made in such a short time ... I cannot tell you how over the moon I am ! Anyone else have an amazing NSV to share ?!
  6. I am a grocery checker at a large store. Yesterday I had a plump women come through my line with a lot of lean cuisine meals. I told her that I loved them and used them as my lunch on work days.(I only can eat half of it!) She gave me a look while sizing me up and said "Why? You don't look like you need to lose any weight!" Me not needing to lose weight I love it! Here she thought she was being nasty to me and she actually made my day!! I still have 12 pounds left to go, but boy do I feel good now, I could not stop smiling the rest of the day!
  7. Woo hooooo! I had my RNY on March 19, 2015. I've lost 62 lbs so far. I am disabled, so I won't lose as fast as many people. I've been wearing my same size 5X tops forever! When I was feeling optimistic a few months ago, I ordered my same style trapeze tank tops from Roamans in a 2X. I set them aside for a long time because they just looked too small. Last night, I realized all of my pajama tops were all in the laundry basket, so I grabbed a 2x tank top for the night, and it fit!!!!!!! I'm not even close to being confident enough to wear something snug around my hips and belly, but now I feel like I really did lose some weight! I know that many of us wear loose, stretchy clothes, and I probably will for a long time, but at least its a smaller size! Most of my weight is around my middle, so I just wasn't seeing a big change there. I really needed this victory!

    A Ladder

Congrats! Every NSV is GREAT and means a lot! Yeah, I always had a nervous chuckle when I read the warning on most ladder, typically 250 to 275 pounds max load and I tipped the scale at 375. A few groaned and creaked and scared the hell out of me too.

    The Bandsters' Constitution

Since I started the thread, do I have the power to veto the addition of green's "Newbies have the right to ask what PB and NSV mean" statement? LOL Sorry, green! I think that it should read "Newbies have to right to research information about their new band on Lapbandtalk.com." Get thee to the abbreviations thread! LOL Hee, hee!

    100 lbs down!!!

Keep going! You look so good and I bet you feel even better. Keep a little list for all the NSVs and reread it when you get frustrated.
  12. It is important for me to share my journey with others. I will be honest about what I am feeling so that new people or people thinking about getting banded can have an honest view point. I believe most people are this way but there are also some trolls out there with weird agendas that want to scare people. There will be ups and downs as with anything, I am sure. It is my goal to honestly portray what it is like to be banded. I am 34 years old with a start weight of 305. I have a large blended family. Between my husband and I we have 6 children and a very busy life. I am 8 days post op today. My surgery included a hernia repair, lapband and plication. My band was not "primed" at time of surgery. My first fill is scheduled for 6 weeks post op. To be quite honest, I am one of those people who don't do well with any pain meds. They knock me out and generally make me groggy. That is what happened this week. Not only was I groggy but I experienced discomfort like never before in my life. This was me being unprepared as I have never had major surgery before. The gas pains alone threw me. They are not your standard gas pain. Until you have it you really won't know what people mean when they are talking about the gas. When you have your band do what everyone says and walk, walk, walk. The first three days after surgery, I was happiest when walking. Working out the gas pressure is a relief! My relationship with food this week has been an emotional roller coaster. In the beginning of the week, I felt like I had lost a dear friend. I am still on the clear liquid part of my post op diet. It seems like every commercial on TV is about food. Food I don't even normally like looks delicious. Now, at the beginning of my second week Post OP, those commercials no longer bother me. I have accepted the stage of the diet I am on and I know that eventually I will be able to eat "real food" as long as I keep it healthy I WILL succeed! My relationship with my husband has gotten stronger. I am 34 years old and needed help taking a shower, getting dressed and making broth for myself. He stepped up and did all of these things for me. He took the kids to school, cleaned house, and made their dinner all while holding down a job of his own. I could not have done as well this week without his loving support. When I was ready to start doing things on my own again he did not smother me. He is letting me take control back one step at a time, as I am ready. I am truly blessed to have him in my life. I hope everyone can find support in this journey as I have. I have had a lot of time to think this week. I took a long hard look at myself and have decided I will not fail my band. Notice I did not say the band will not fail me. I will not fail the band because I have made a decision to follow doctor's orders, to be honest with myself and to let my support system help me. I made the decision to take this step in my life for my health. Let's be honest here.. I also have dreams of feeling sexy again. I am 34 not 90. It is up to me to see that this tool helps me reach my goal. I believe with all my heart personal responsibility needs to be a big part of the healing process. So flash forward to post op day 8. I feel fantastic today! I have no more pain. I have not had to take my pain meds for two days. The gas is all gone. Food commercials no longer bother me. I am not weak or groggy anymore. So I promised in my title two NSV's (non scale victories) and one SV (scale victory). So already I am encouraged by progress. My first and a very important NSV is I was able to get my wedding rings back on. Not only are they on but they are comfortable and no longer cutting into my fingers! As I was heartbroken and sorely disappointed in myself when I had to take them off, I am overjoyed to wear them again. My husband is also very proud I am wearing his rings again. The second and also very important NSV.. I was able to sleep in my own bed last night! This was the first time in 10 years I have had to sleep apart from my husband when in the same house. We have never let a fight make one of us sleep on the couch. I spent the entire last week in my recliner because it was the only comfortable spot to sleep. I am so HAPPY to be back in my own bed. And drum roll please... My scale victory... As of this morning I am down to 289 from 305lbs. 16 lbs lost! I have not seen the scale move backwards in years and never has it moved 16lbs! I can do this. If you are a new person with doubts and questions.. YOU can do this if you want to. Do research. When you think you have done enough.. do some more. It is not easy. Oh boy is it not the easy way out.. It is a tool for you to use. If you want success, reach out and grab it. It is there for you. Remember success comes with bumps in the road. These are just things we all have to get through. It is part of life. I am sure I will have ups and downs. Lets be realistic. Of course there will be ups and downs. I will share as many of these as I can that I feel people considering this journey should hear. If something goes wrong (unlikely), I will be honest about it and what caused it. I will share the victories as well. Thank you for reading my first blog. I wish you all success in your own journeys no matter what road they take. I am happy to answer any questions I can if you have any. =)

    So Depressed...No restriction...No Weight Loss

first off, the weight may not just "fall off." You may be one of the slow ones. Just make sure you track your NSVs, they will really help. Second, man, that sux about your port. Sorry I can't offer any specific advice other than never let people dig around in you with a needle. YIKES! Sorry! Flower just had a port revision, you might PM her and find out some specificis.
  15. Congratulations on your nsv! What a wonderful feeling it must be!
  16. I've been wondering what my first NSV might be...essentially trying things out that I couldn't do or was way too afraid to do before....well, we hit the pool today (me and my two little munchkins) and I was able to easily get in and out without having to use the ladder! I haven't hoisted my body up like that for a loooong time... The best part was that i didn't even think about it until i was already out of the pool. I just did it. When it hit me i just stopped in my tracks and if i was less worried about looking like a crazy lady i would have danced a little jig right then and there. It made me all the more motivated. I've been exercising too...running and Zumba have helped me build up my muscles and I know that's partly why it happened so naturally. Loving this and can't wait for more!

    Morning Gas

I used to use a bi-pap too (No more , NSV !!!!) and was gassy too because healthy food or not, I just have trouble digesting things. I do notice im less gassy now, but the protein shakes/ high protein diet contribute a lot to the gas problem. Oh well, I just chalked it up to a minor inconvenience on my way to a bigger payoff ! ( Healthy weightloss !) Check with your Dr , ask about a chewable fiber pill from the drugstore and see if that helps. I love mine ! Good luck !!

    What's wrong with me?

That's a lot of NSV's. Everyone loses at different rates. If you can start excercising, that will make a big difference. I really have to force myself to do it because I hate it as well. Good luck to you.

    New NSV

That is a great NSV! I had so many sizes in my closet I bought hardly anything as I was loosing. About 6 bags of clothes have gone to my sister. It was so exciting to fit into clothes I hadn't fit into for years. Keep up the good work! Go shopping!
  21. StartingOver

    My first NSV

Okay, maybe not my first, but the first one that I am REALLY REALLY excited about. Today at lunch I walked to Old Navy and bought a cute pair of jeans and a pair of slacks in size 20. I haven't worn a size 20 for 7 years. Well, maybe I did--but I shouldn't have. I started my journey in a size 24 (which I shouldn't have either, but couldn't admit that I needed a size 26 or 28). On top of that, I have never bought anything at Old Navy 1. because the store opened when I was a teen, and didn't have anything over a size 12 back then, and 2. because I didn't think that they now sell anything bigger than an XL. I'm starting to feel like the 50lbs I've lost is a reality. Oh yeah, and my mother called me today just to tell me how proud she is of me, and how great I'm looking. Of course, this was after she told me this morning that she just couldn't bring herself to ever tell me how REDICULOUSLY HUGE (her words) I was pre op. I wasn't mad though, she's right. I had let myself go. Well, I'm back, and feelin' great!!! I love my band!

    NSV for me! YAHOO!

Hi, Just had to shout it out that I had (for me) a big NSV today. I have been working out about 2 hours a day and I have a trainer I work out with twice a week (just started that 3 weeks ago). I do spinning, kick boxing, yoga, and run about once a week, in addition to lifting. Today, my trainer said I was doing dips for my triceps. I was like...well, wait, I've NEVER been able to do those...I don't know how many I can even do (of course, I thought I was going to be able 1 or 2 at the MOST). Well, I shocked myself! When my sets were done, I had done 48!!!! I'm still in shock that I did it!!! YAHOO!!!! It was a HUGE accomplishment for me! Just wanted to share! Rose 367/banded at 334 on 9-21-04/297 now/185 goal banded in Greeley, CO by Dr. Johnell

  24. Quit laughing first of all. I know I'm too old to be going back to college and wouldn't have done it a year ago and 80 pounds heavier so I guess it's kind of a NSV. I have always always always wanted to work in a hospital and I quit college after one year ago a few years back so I enrolled today and classes start 8/10/07 and I'm so excited. I pray I have the strength and energy to finish this time. Pray for me. Just thought I would share. My daugher in-law went with me and enrolled as well so we can go together and she not knowing it would hurt my feelings said on the way down there today, "I admire someone at YOUR age going back to college". I could have strangled her but I guess if you think about it she's right.
