    Alcohol?

What is anaphylaxis? My sister had gastric bypass 10 years ago and became a raging alcoholic and chain smoker. I don't even know how she's still alive, she doesn't eat she just eats gummy bears and drinks and smokes. I've put her in rehab 5 times but she always fails and she hardly drank before surgery.
  3. I agree with the trial and error method cuz everyone is different even if its in just slight ways. I'm in my 9-10 th week and I've been stalled for almost a wk. Maybe its a common place to stall, like the 3 rd wk is?? I also popped up a pound and a half over a day then dropped it off again. I'm not too concerned yet. It's very hard for me to be patient but I know our scales will drop again. I am obsessed with the scale and weigh myself everyday. It sucks but I think I traded my obssessive eating for obsessive weighing. I'm working on this with my therapist, though. I know ur scale will drop, I just know it!
  4. Hi I am also knew here and my surgery is set for 11/19. My story is alot like yours. I am 35 single. I also have facial hair growth which I hate and was thinking about getting lasered so I don't have to shave anymore. If you need someone to talk to I am a good listener even though I am just learning myself. Good luck!

    ok, dumb social experiment

When I was recovering from surgery I was scouring craigslist for some stuff related to my home remodel. Cool. Well, I somehow stumbled into the personals "missed connections" In my pain pill induced stupor I had this romantic vision of eyes meeting across the train platform but before the fated lovers can speak, or exchange phone numbers, she is wisked away... and true love is missed. Well, not really, but it sounded like a fun romantic thought. So, the other day I went by a local business to pick up an growler beer order "to go" (for my sons to try a microbrew I really liked and wanted to share with them) the place they have you wait is like on display for EVERYBODY to look at you and being it was a brewery it was like 90% men in there. So, a nice looking man, probably 10 years younger than me, but who knows, was looking pretty intently in my direction. We exchanged glances, but for all i knew, he was waiting for someone to walk in the door as he was pretty focused looking. Even so, I decide on whim to put up a missed connections ad. My description of myself/time of day was detailed enough, that if you had seen me, you would know it but I didn't put my age or home town location or anything like that. My description of him was a little vaguer but still.... hair color, general build, color of clothing. I kinda said something like, i am single, if you are, let's have a beer together. I put that ad up an hour ago and I have 2 replies already. So, either I have discovered that #1 missed connections is just a pool of crazies and not my romantic notions OR #2 maybe there were 2 guys sitting there thinking they would like to say hello. I am leaning toward theory #1. The one that sent his picture though - I am pretty sure that was him but the baseball cap is throwing me off a little. Damn, now what do I do? HA! Why do I get caught up in these ideas of romantic intrigue? If nothing else, it maybe tells me I need to be a lot friendlier in person and maybe some one in real life will actually ask me on a date so I never have to log into a dating site again!

    Newbie

Hi everyone, my name is deb I'm 43 married with 2 kids and 2 granddaughters I live in Cheshire I'm 6 weeks post op, I had wls 10 years ago and lost 10 stones, havin putting my weight back I went back to my gp they agreed to do a revision from a vertical banded gastroplasty to a gastric bypass, there were a few complications but I think I'm finally on the better side, still in abit of pain but its alot better then it was, I've lost 20kgs but 8 of them were on my pre op diet, I've not lost any for 2 weeks and feel really disheartened I've not lost more, feels like I'm still in pain got nothing :-(
  8. missKAYLA: I feel ya. I was on liquids for both Thanksgiving AND my 30th birthday. Yick, but, it was worth it. I was able to lose 18 pounds on my liquid diet. I was on all liquids, protein shakes, sugar free jello and bouillon, but, since the sodium is so high in the bouillon, I only had one serving a day. I started mine 2 weeks exactly before the surgery. I would say to start yours maybe at LEAST 10 days out and make sure to keep the sugar and carb content on your shakes low. I used the Atkins Advantage shakes, they're pretty good. Good luck!
  9. I have read your post a few times and I am not sure where to begin. I am the same height as you, 10 years older, 40DD, and started about 30 lbs heavier. My experience is going to be different from others and likely from yours but I thought I would tell you some of my observations. What I have observed from reading publications and postings is that women around my size, height, 30s ad 40s, over a year's time seem to lose about 10 lbs per month on average. Looks like the average first month is about 30 lbs including the liver reduction diet. My example - 53 lbs in 7 weeks. hair loss: Seems to be a crap shoot. If you do not keep your Protein up, it will be very difficult to avoid. It does seem like those with thicker hair do have an advantage if they lose their hair or have breakage. I have seen many posters remark that the hair had issues around months 2 to 3 and filled back around Months 9 and 10. My example - no hair loss...yet. Breast size - At the outset, I lost weight off my top before my bottom. Still the same cup size but hooking the bra at the last hook and its pretty loose. I was always busty. I am not noticing sag. Saying that, I have seen some women who have experienced a great deal of sag. I do work out with a personal trainer and I am hoping that will reduce sag but keeping me tone. Probably works more with my arms than my bust though! A wise, wise friend of mine once said "Worry about no problem before its time". I used that to get me through to where I am. There are so many positives to this surgery especially if you are concerned about your weight and its current or potential effect on your health, lifestyle, etc. At your age, I think that you would have a very good chance of avoiding plastics. I should mention that the weight does not fall off like it was put on. I was expecting where my weight went on most recently would be where it came off first. It does not work that way with me. Everyone is different. While there are certainly no guarantees, and there is a bit of a leap of faith with respect to the possibility of plastic surgery, this surgery has been a complete game changer for me. Best of luck where your journey leads you...

    April 30th!

I can't believe we're all within 20 miles of each other, we should meet up some time! My surgeon is Dr. Foster from Mills Penn. hospital, but she works at El Camino too which was great since it's 10 mins from my house. As far as time off, I could've taken several weeks, but then I know what would be waiting for me when I got back. Plus I told most colleagues I'm on vacation, so I can't be gone too long. Actually I've already been answering email all week so it's like I'm telecommuting anyway. Sigh. Was a bit hungry today, but got through it okay. Hope you're doing well!

    Ghrelin and memory / learning?

I have been having a difficult time articulating as well. I thought it was from lack of nutrition as I am only 10 days out. I agree that the long term affects of obesity are far greater than the side effects of vsg thus far. I hope my issues with memory go away asap.

    Food....

Sara lee makes whole wheat bread that's only 45 cal a slice and 10 carbs very light and taste is not bad at all. We make pizza pockets out of it and goes over really well with the kids. Now if they could just make it glutin free We also make cauliflower pizza check it out on pintrest along with crust less pizza Surgery Anniversary 7/30/12
  14. Two weeks ago I had a treadmill stress test. It was a nightmare. My heart was beating so fast that I could hardly breathe. I asked to get off and they kept telling me just a little longer. Finally, I told them I was going to pass out and they let me off. I didn't stay on long enough. I was really scared to go back to have the chemical stress test but I have to get cleared by a cardiologist. Yesterday I had a chemically induced test called stress pet scan. It was the total opposite of my first test. Just lay still for about a half hour. Machine kept taking picures. The last 10 min they injected me with something to make my heart beat faster. I had no bad reaction and could have slept through the test although I don't think they want you to. My point is to try to get the chemical test if you are morbidly obese, older and not in good shape. I had a lot of people tell me the treadmill stress test wasn't that bad and I could do it. I really tried but for some people like me we should have the chemical test.

    Dr Kelly, TJ, April 4th/5th

My surgery is scheduled March 1st but I will be there from Feb. 28 - March 10 because I am having some dental work done as well. So I will see you there! Do you know which hotel you are staying at? I will be at the Lucerna. Can't wait to meet you there! Tracy
  16. Went shopping at 50% off thift store & looking at the jeans & thinking hummm. Been a while since I bought anything the size 13 is just a tiny lose. Maybe time to move to size 12. Omg! I'm a size 12. That's smaller then 15 years ago. I bought a size 7 in jeans because I want to be a size 7 in the future. I also have like 3 jeans in size 10.

    Nervous

I have my surgery on 10/24/2011 and I am extremely nervouse...I have read some very discouraging things about plication to where I'm almost ready to give up on the surgery that I have been waiting for so long to receive...If anyone out there has recently had this surgery please give me some good words of advice...
  18. hopefully soon

    statistics?

Hey I look at it this way...I had about 80 lbs to lose and if I lose 40 and get stuck at least that is 40 lbs that is gone for GOOD! Unlike any other "diet" I have been on where the 40 lbs leaves for 6 months then comes back with 10 "friends" causing that gradual but REAL climb up the scale. I would rather lose 40 and maintain than lose 40 and gain, lose 50 and gain, etc etc so look on the bright side My doctor also told me the same as above....that I will still have to put in the work and I will get out what I put in. There are many many success stories where people lose all or nearly all of their excess weight but the stats have to figure in everybody including those to "eat around the band" and dont lose. You can do this and so can the rest of us on our current journies

    Sleeved this morning!

Day 7 post-op and omg! I'm so dang hungry. I just chewed on a small piece of fajita chicken then spit it out before I could swallow it! Now having a cup of chicken broth. Can't believe that I have 7 more days of this. Can't have soft food until my follow up with the doctor. Good news? I'm down 10 pounds since pre-surgery.

    I am mad at myself..

Thank you Jessi - I am getting the idea that this is a very common issue in our age range. I have a friend who is a bombshell, tall, blonde, mid 40s and she was about ready to give up too.... It is like they are attracted to your looks but then you start to realize the emotional issues people have, how they often really have issues with women, aren't over their ex, are very negative... whatever the case may be. I am sure men have the same issues because I guess there is a reason we find ourselves single at this stage of life. I probably need to get over some of my criteria - i am simply not attracted to 95% of the men within 5-7 years of my age, but I don't want a young boyfriend playmate. I want someone who at least for awhile, is in a good relationship with me but he should be fit enough to keep up with me. I don't think that is asking alot, it isn't like I am a super athlete but I can do a 9-10 mile hike up and down a mountain and not alot of 50-60 year olds seem to be at that level. I get hit on alot... but so wildly inappropriate sometimes (Saturday night, it was a guy in his 20s!) but mostly so incredibly unattractive to me if they are near my age - usually way older actually (that also happened Saturday night). I need to get over that, but i can't help that i am just not drawn to someone who looks like santa claus (not fit, older looking, not youthful in attitude). I am being a brat i guess, but I would rather be solo than with someone who doesn't interest me. I don't think it is fair to even date guys that just don't attract me. Anyway, I am fine. I go dancing with a social group every week. I have a plan a plan to take actual dance lessons so I can do couples dancing more confidently. I am thinking about joining some organizations (I am not a big joiner really but my horse community is all women so i need to find groups with a better mix) of outdoorsy people because that is where I will find fit men my age. I do find them on the dating websites, and attract them okay, but I am not doing so well with picking the emotionally available ones... so far... 2 out of 2 have turned out to really be cut off from the possibilities of even becoming friends, in spite of their stated intentions. (BTW, it might be me - I get it - but they tell me they LIKE me and enjoy being with me so it is hard to know.) I think I just haven't found the right man for this stage of my life. Okay, I have vented enough. Carry on!
