  1. I had the same problem. I am 4 months post op. My surgeon said the same with me on way too much scar tissue and couldn't get revision done. So he did did DS!.. So far so good on weight loss, but OMG, my stool and gas is so foul it is unbelievable. Someone in the hospital told my husband something to buy for me to take to help with that. He looked while I was in the hospital but never wrote it down....He and I sure wished he remembered it now!
  2. I'm 19 months out and no I have not yet reached my goal. I may actually revise it at some point (and no it's not a super-low weight or anything un-acheiveable) but for me personally this has been a verrrrry slow journey. Some people race down the scale and others drop a little at a time. I'm more like the latter of the two. But I cannot stress enough how much I would do this surgery over again! I've been thrilled with my sleeve and I'm not unhappy at my current weight, but would like to lose another 15lbs at least. It is hard work but so totally worth the effort!!! I had zero complications, in fact I know I'm rare but I have never once (not even due to stomach bug, flu, etc.) vomitted with my sleeve. So that makes me really happy because I hate to do that more than almost anything. I know of people who have had complications so I'm not meaning to gloss over the serious risks that are part of such a major surgery, but for me personally I had NO complications whatsoever.
  3. This is when I tell ppl to be very assertive in your care and your band. my story and I am going to make it short was where I started to have reflux. my PA and surgeon treated me for that by increasing prilosec and using Carafate and onesdastron(SP). but what I should have said since I have never had any trouble and at the point had lost 81 lbs. I was a compliant bander. but I should have insisted on a barium swallow. I didn't and on july 4th I was in severe pain . went to the surgeon and had a barium swallow which showed a little slippage but I had a lot of damage done to my esophagus which I have never healed from. my band is in place but any amount of fill causes my damage to flair up. now I have no fill and slowly gaining wt. and have to start all over with a revision. I love my band and treated it well. but I needed to know when to assert myself and this is your time. make sure everything is okay.
  4. Welcome Matt! You have come to the right place if you are seeking guidance, support and personal experiences. I am a revision patient (from lap band to sleeve) on April 20, 2016 so I'm still kind of a newbie. As a newbie, maybe I can give you some of my initial experiences and others can pick up along the way... The surgery part- For me, was very easy. In the hospital weds, out Thursday, felt the usual soreness and gas pains (those hurt more than anything!). It's tricky at first getting in your fluids but each day gets easier. I was back on my feet pretty normal by Monday- errands, gardening, dog park. I felt the more I moved the better I felt so I just kept moving. I haven't really stopped since! I'm lucky in that for some reason, this surgery game me a HUGE burst of energy. I think a huge part was mental- I wake up each day and think "oh my goodness... It's real! I have a sleeve!" Because to me the sleeve equals a tool to help take control of my life. It's by NO means a quick or easy fix to weight issues- it's a tool that you need to learn to work properly. There are lots of people here who can offer support and advice when you need it. Listen to your doctor and do what your team tells you. Your doctor knows you. He's doing your surgery. Follow his instructions. You will find that doctors orders vary enormously- it's almost funny at times. But you can't pick and chose things from other people's plans and try them all out. Someone on here has the motto "You do you". It's great advice. Don't compare your weight loss to others. Everyone loses at different rates. It can be discouraging to see people who had surgery the same time as you post numbers bigger than yours. We are all different- weights, exercise levels, etc. Again, your focus should be on you. Finally, I'm sure you are a smart guy since you are diligently doing your homework. That's a sign you are headed in the right direction. Go over all your post surgery stuff NOW and see what your team says to avoid. If it's coffee, soda, fruit, whatever, if you are loving it now, learn to say goodbye to it before you have your surgery. It's much easier if you wean yourself early on from the no no stuff. Don't wait. Start now. I'm sure you will have lots of folks give you great advice. And remember that's what this is- advice. Your doctor always knows best but you can't beat the kind of support you will find here. You will also find tough love which is just as important! It's also good if you have a good support system surrounding you. You can tell no one or share with the world but those in the know should understand what this surgery entails and how you need to commit to it 100%. I sincerely wish you the best of luck. argh! feeling frustrated!

Donna D; Yup, no restriction again! I could feel a tiny 'gurgle' when I swallowed Water for a day or two... now a week out...nothing.. NO PB'ing... I can eat bread, pizza even dry roast beef!!! I thought for sure the beef will give me a test...nope. nadda. zippo So I wrote to Daryl this even and asked to be booked for a floro in Jan... we'll see what comes of that request. Meanwhile I am getting another fill next wed 19th. How are YOU doing? Is your weight loss coming along? are you restricted to where you'd like to be? Doddie: Thanks for the replys, I making my mini goal to lose 5lbs by Xmas but I think a revision to just not GAIN any will be acceptable... perhaps in the New Year I'll see my dreams come true.
  7. Hi Michelle!!! Wow!!! Port Revision!!! I hope all goes well! Let us know how you are doing. As for me, I am doing great. I get my 3rd fill on tomorrow--which I am hoping will put me at my "Sweet Spot"...YAY!!!! Exercising is going well also! How did you know that your port flipped? Was it discovered during your fill or were you experiencing problems prior?
  8. Billy, This is exactly what I've been experiencing for the last year. Now I find that there are about 20% of the banded whose bands never work. Yes, we can get them so tight we can't eat...but that sense of hunger never goes away. According to my surgeon, that is not in our head...it's because the band is not stopping that 'feed me' hormone that the stomach produces. The band sits on two nerves and at some point, tightens enough (and that will vary by individual) so that the stomach says "oh I'm full" and stops producing that hormone. That's why some people never need a fill and the band alone does it...and why some people need a tighter restriction on those nerves. For some of us, we can get so restricted we can't eat and the nerves are still not talking to those hormones. Perhaps a talk with your surgeon about a revision to a sleeve might be in order? .

I need to vent about stupid people

Exactly why I've NEVER posted on Facebook that I ever even had lapband surgery 4 yrs ago or about my sleeve revision next week. Occasionally people who I don't see often will comment on how great I look in new pics, but other than that, no one in FB world needs to know, therefore opening up myself to detrimental comments. No clue why I was embarrassed at first about my wls, but I was. I was ashamed that I couldn't do it on my own, basically giving up. I'm proud now about how well I've done and have come close to announcing on fb about my surgery. But alas, I had a slip and gained back 30 lbs. SO, so, so glad I never announced it. Can you imagine what I'd be hearing now? and now that I'm planning a 2nd surgery? Wow. My page would be on fire. I wish you luck with that. Really, I do.

    Concerned on post day 5

I'm so glad someone asked this. I'm almost 3 weeks out and have no problem drinking and eating (yogurt, refried Beans, ricotta cheese). Granted I've never taken more than 4 or 5 bites (with a baby spoon) but I've yet to have a "full" feeling like some have expressed. I even asked my nurse if the doctor actually created a sleeve at my follow up. She laughed and said oh he did, trust me. I'm doubly concerned because my doctor had a hard time digging my band out (I'm a revision) and he said due to scar tissue, I have an exceptionally small sleeve. I can't get over the nagging feeling of "will I be the first failure?" Thank goodness for the sgb224 post... 95 lbs is AMAZING!!!! I've only lost 12 and am bummed... But hey, the scale is finally moving in the down direction so I'm thrilled I did this. Oh I do have a question though- what does "full" feel like? A cramp? A stuffed feeling? Will I get a warning? Sorry if these questions come across as stupid... I'm a newbie. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  11. The additonal cost is likely to do with the band removal and any surgical fixes that are required. Which state are you in? Cost may vary a lot between states and not all the additional costs may be related to the revision surgery but the post op program. Some post op programs are full on, others not. For me my post op program was appts with the surgeon (5mins phone as I am in another state), other programs may have dieticians, behavioural coaches, therapists, exercise physiologists scheduled appointments

    I'm scared!

Did you have a problem keeping the weight off after your sleeve? I've noticed that revisions to ds are becoming more common.
  13. Hi all, I was revised on September 16. Any other revised people out there?
  14. I'm not sure if there are real studies on it I have seen a few people on here that are slower losers after revision. I'm ok with it as long as I can get the weight off
  15. I have been wanting to do this for a while any info anyone can share
  16. Hi im thinkin about a revision, i have the older version of the band my surgery was years ago and now at this point my weigh is 214 IAM NOT HAPPY, I have ATENA not sure what they will say I hope they approve it...man Im totally bummed
  17. I posted a reply to your message over on OH. I was just approved for a revision to the sleeve yesterday. They submitted the paperwork in April but it was sitting in Aetna's queue with no case number so I called and withing 24hrs I got a call from my dr's office saying that I was approved.
  18. I have had my band for 2 years which was self pay and am needing a revision to a sleeve and now I have Aetna. I had my sleep study last week with no sleep apnea and my endoscopy last week with Dr. Kim, he said I have a slipped band which has been empty for weeks. His office submitted everything to the insurance today and said we will have to wait to hear from them. Has anybody else gone throught these steps with insurance, how long does it usually take to get an approval or denial?

    beyond furious with Humana

Sorry, I'm paying for my surgery out of pocket. What does EOB mean? My husband and I are both getting sleeved, im a revision and our combined total is less than $20,000
  20. I had a band for 6 years, it slipped and then I had it repositioned. It was never the same. 9 months later I was revised to RNY. It's a brand new world, wish I had gone this route in the first place.

    Sleeved On 4/24

I was sleeved too on the 24! Still on liquids until wed then protein shakes n mushed cottage cheese and pureed creme of what ever soups. I weighed in on surf day at 290 and today I'm 264 woot woot lol..I'm Jenn by the way and this is my revision from the band
  22. Hey Lynn, we talked on OH, but I just wanted to welcome you over here. I'm USAF Wife over there. There's lots of revision patients over here that post pretty regularly. If you come across any questions, post away, we're here for you.
  23. Living with the band is a nightmare. Living with the sleeve is effortless. Get that band out and get a sleeve! There are many of us band to sleeve revisions and I don't know anyone who is sorry they did it!
  24. For y'all considering a revision, I can tell you that I wouldn't let someone put another band in for a million bucks. I was willing to live with some of the band issues, but when I read the stats on reslips, additional erosions, more port issues, I just couldn't risk it. I wanted only one more surgery and be done. The risk for another surgery with another band just scared me. With the damage the band did to my stomach, I honestly don't know if my stomach have supported another band. I know it can be removed, but at what cost. I love that the sleeve isn't reversible, and I honestly don't miss that big, stretchy stomach that allowed me to eat enormous amounts of food. It seems scary and drastic, but ending up fat for the rest of my life, or dealing with another band issue, was even more scary. Keep researching and reading around here. There's lots of stories out there of patients that went through the same thought process.
