    FAILED GASTRIC SLEEVE SURGERY

I'm on my second band and am trying to get a revision to RNY approved. The reason I'm going with RNY is because I'm worried about exactly what you're posting about. I know my metabolism is completely messed up, between my PCOS and the band. Unfortunately, I'm going to be starting almost from scratch, because I've regained almost everything I lost with the band (I went from 225 to 135, and I'm back to 211 now).
  2. 5500$ contact David at bariatric pal! From the first call you won't be disappointed!! But mine was a revision. So a sleeve is not as expensive:)
  3. I had the lapband in 2008 and just had it removed on 2/4 and had the sleeve done at the same time. From all the posts I've been reading, those that have had the "revision" surgery are not losing as fast as those that are having the sleeve. But I also had an easier time adjusting because I had been through it before with the band
  4. Wow 15 years! I'm having a revision from sleeve to MGB on 4/23. How have you done ? Any regrets ?
  5. I am having a revision from a band to a MGB in June. Have watched most of Dr R's videos on youtube and found them really informative. Would be great to hear from someone who lived with that op as long as you have.
  6. Hi I have not had my revision to MGB yet but here are the details Belgium Dr Christiaan De Bruyne 7450 Euros inc of hotel for patient and partner, some taxis etc. This surgeon did my original band op. He is one of the most experienced bariatric surgeons in Europe, has never lost a patient. He hasn't increased his prices for the last few years so making bucks doesn't seem to be his sold motivator. I have to wait until June as I already had a holiday booked around the time he had his first slot available. Do will be on a pre op diet for at least one of my three weeks. I will report back as I progress.
  7. Hi Chrissy !! You have definitely made the right choice ! I wish I had went from band to MGB and skipped the sleeve ! Who is doing your revision ? I am off to Belgium, back to
  8. Sure ! Iv been researching obsessively for a couple of months now and IMHO. Dr. Rodriguez, Dr. Ramos-Kelly, Dr. Wilhmey, Dr. Corvela and Dr. Ariel Ortiz and Dr. Alvarez are the best in Mexico. I gathered this mainly from obsessively reading everything anyone had ever posted about surgeons. From there I contacted each one to discuss my specific case as well as cost and what the packages included. A couple were scratched off right away because I am already sleeved and thought I wanted resleeved. Dr. Ortiz wanted to plicate my sleeve ..no thanks. Dr. Alvarez didn't think I would be happy with it and refused me. Dr. Corvela and Dr. Whilmey were both on board and Dr. Whilmey had the most experience with revisions but Dr. Rodriquez recommended the MGB which i NEVER thought I would even consider!! I started researching and I liked what I found. I then talked with Dr. Kelly and Dr. Illan about the procedure and both were in favor also but both combine hospital stay with hotel recovery, I liked Dr. Kelly a lot but he was about $1000 more and I'm already on the high end at $7900, all were well credentialed, well reviewed but Dr. Rod made the recommendation for the MGB, he has done over 10,000 procedures in his career and he operates out of the hospital used by the US embassy. Iv talked to a lot of others who have used him and have found no complaints at all!! I hope this helps, it was prob more than you were looking for lol ! I think if you are looking to be sleeved you can't to wrong with anyone Iv mentioned above but again prob Dr. Rod and Dr. Ramos Kelley and Dr. Wilhmey would be my number one picks !
  9. Hi Chrissy !! You have definitely made the right choice ! I wish I had went from band to MGB and skipped the sleeve ! Who is doing your revision ?

  11. Hi My name is Chrissy and I just registered here. Have booked an MGB revision from a band foR June. I get the fear and face it by thinking of my future without the surgery. Now that is scary. Am expecting to feel more or less the same as after my band op. Wasnt as bad as I expected and am praying for a repeat of that. Good luck with it. Hope you can stay positive and concentrate on getting yourself as fit and ready for the op as can be. Chrissy
  12. Lsf what's a revision surgery? So curious...
  13. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the fact that I am a revision? It was as you describe when I first got my lapband back in 2007. I know revisions lose weight more slowly but can't believe I ate 2 cups of soup with no problem..... That said, what else could it be? My surgeon is considered the absolute best in our state and proctors all the other doctors and is brilliant.....she told me my revision was a breeze and my liver was "beautiful" and not the least bit fatty......I just don't know what else she would do if I did call her....

    I have a few questions..

Hi, bacon-- My revision was February 17, and I spent three days in the hospital. Challenges getting in fluids and extreme grogginess extended my hospital stay by one day. Throughout my recovery, I've had, and continue to have, difficulty getting in fluids and foods. Two weeks ago, I had a scope that revealed a stricture, which was inhibiting my ability to keep down Protein shakes and Water let alone anything pureed. It was cleared, but I continue to throw up and experience inconsistencies with even the softest of foods. My recovery is harrowing from my perspective, but I was able to return to work after three weeks, one week sooner than I'd planned. I was banded in 2009 and lost 40 pounds. Since the revision in February, I've lost 30. I'm also off of two of my blood pressure medications and taking half of the antidepressants I used to, results I never achieved with the band. In spite of this, however, I have regrets. The constant vomiting and feeling of fullness in my esophagus is like still having a band. I have a lot of anxiety around eating and have all but stopped doing it. I also have unpredictable stomach pains and explosive bowel movements. In summary, if I had the revision to do over again, I don't know that I would. Good luck with your decision!
  15. Well, it's official, I'm scheduled for my revision from sleeve to MGB on 4/23 and I'm also officially scared to death !! I really hope I'm doing the right thing.
  16. Mine was a revision surgery. I only lost 19.5 pounds at 8 weeks post op. I have barely exercised because of a bone spur in my foot has made it very painful to walk. I'm hoping to get it treated in a couple of weeks so I can start my walking again. I still think my weight loss will be slow even with the exercise but my goal is to try to lose 8-10 pounds a month.
  17. I had my revision 3 days ago, I'm feeling GREAT,no pain at all!! Doctor said I had a some scar tissue but everything went well. I was discharged the next day. So far,so good! Banded-02/02/2012-252 lbs Revision to Sleeve-04/01/2015-213 lbs
  18. . I can relate to you because we went in for revision around the same time. I haven't had any crazy meals
  19. Man that stinks. I would be interested to see what a study of easy breezy vs post -op from hell. It can't be age, because I'm no spring chicken. I really don't understand your doctor not wanting to prescribe a PPI. Mine put me on one prophylactically. Hopefully the new doctor can resolve you issue. There's another poster here who has worse acid than yours. She is considering a revision to RNY.

    Sleeved March 3 now Bypass!

Sarabeth3569 - I had sleeve on Dec 21, 2012. I am probably going to be going through revision to bypass. Can you tell me how your process has been, struggles, non struggles, good days, bad days, etc... I was about 289 lbs when I had Sleeve done. I got down to 189. Then I got pregnant and Jumped up to 233. Now I'm back to 210, and I can't get my sleeve into gear. I'm eating way more than I should be able to, and I would like to get back into gear with all of this. It would be awesome to have an email friend.

How was your 5:2 day today?

I am going to challenge you on this - in a caring way! You are very close to your goal range - every freaking middle aged woman in the developed world wants to weigh 10-20 pounds less than they do. I don't think you NEED a revision. I think you are expressing the same dang annoying thing I am experiencing. I can eat more. I like to eat - especially delicious food . I have to either up the activity or up my personal committment to eating "right" to get back to skinny chick zone. Ain't nothing like an amazing man in your life to tell you that you are the hottest ticket in town..haha... and i keep thinking, you should have seen me a year ago! ha! but i will take the compliment

    Seromas

@@CowgirlJane Thank you for that story. I have a similar story and I'm arriving at the same conclusion. After this issue with the seroma and subsequent wound and now this crazy swelling, it does cause you to have a little Come to Jesus moment with yourself. I also have that loose skin on my upper posterior thighs, and terrible cellulite on my thighs. My thighs were better right after surgery, but have started to droop a little, and the laxity at my lower butt is enough to warrant a butt lift if I never had one. However, my before pictures were just hideous, and by comparison, it is still so much better. I have saddlebags on my outer thighs that I think look a little freakish, and I do think I'm going to get lipo. I also need a minor revision because my right thigh is bigger than the left at the knee. It was much bigger before surgery, but I'd like them to be more even so clothing fits better. As for the repeat butt lift.....not sure I want to go through all of that again and put myself at risk. Obviously, I'm prone to issues, so I need to really think about how much is enough. At what point is the risk no longer with it? My thighs are never going to be great, or even good. I am never going to look great in a bathing suit from the thighs down. So, in thinking about that risk/benefit comparison, I think the deciding factor is going to be the minimum needed for clothing to fit right. What I had done so far makes my clothing look and fit so much better, I'm thrilled with it. My arms and torso look great, too, and far exceed my expectations. My upper looks like a 25 year old, but my lower half looks like a 52 year old. It's important to really think about when is it good enough - and just move on and enjoy the fruits of our labor. Thanks again for sharing.

How was your 5:2 day today?

Dee, I hope you are ok ... the gain would freak me out too... how is your head space to tackle it now? Are you feeling more positive? Cathy! What good news about your hubby's job... hope you are ok... and Happy Easter to you too. I love to dance too, but I have to be honest, I need a few drinkies as I am still really self conscious... glad your back is better now. I love a good holiday/vacation - have fun when you go Sheryl. Florinda... when you say pouch reduced, do you mean like a sleeve revision? I would absolutely jump at the chance for that, as I can defo eat more now, nearly 5 years out than I could at 3 years out, but I just can't afford or justify it. It is so expensive here as I would have to go privately again - our NHS didn't pay for my original sleeve and they defo would pay for a revision!
  25. I just met with my surgeon after a few years and gaining most of my weight back. I had a major over fill in 2011 and the ER took Fluid out, I never went back until today. He put .5 cc in today and talked about a revision. Just have a few questions for those who have been through a band to GBP revision. 1. How long were you in the hospital? 2. How long were you off work? 3. Do you feel the GBP is working better for you? 4. Any regrets? Thanks in advance for any advise and input!
