I'm still on puree and I'm struggling to get protein also. I only had nausea with yogurt and I just haven't eaten it again. I tried to sneak it in other foods and I didn't feel as bad. It's hard to find good foods. I have a ton of half eaten things in my fridge that I'm slowly circling back too

Catherine55 replied to JOjo-Car's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, Jojo! I go to Dr. Ren (Dr. Fielding's partner and wife -- though my surgery was in MX with Dr. Rumbaut) and they are OK with alcohol in moderation. Definitely check with them on timing though. The shakes are pretty gross -- I hated them, so I got Isopure Protein drinks (taste/look like Gatoraid) from GNC, which was SO much better (42 grams of protein, zero carbs). That did the trick. As for good mushies, you can still have everything you had during liquids (Soups really carried me through liquids & mushies), and other things I enjoyed were mashed potatoes, refried Beans with cheese, pureed turkey chili, cottage cheese, and yogurt. Best wishes for your success! Catherine -
8/20/2009 Status Report for All August 2009 Bandits!!
jennyr1222 replied to sandiegokate's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'll go. I had my surgery on August 7th, so that makes me 14 days post op. I feel GREAT! I had really horrible gas pain the first week, but feel great now. Just a little bit of shoulder tip pain every once in a while. I'm on mushies and loving it. I have a new found addiction to FAGE Greek Yogurt with fruit. I'm finding it hard to eat 1200 calories a day, but in that I often fall below that. It feels like a lot of food. My first fill is Sept 4th and I can't wait so that I see the process. I lost 29 pounds from July 20th through the beginning of this week and have been stalled for 5 days, but I'm hoping upping the calories will get the scale moving. Unbelievably THRILLED that I made this decision! -
Hey August Sleevers, What's going on? It's Aug. 1, and we haven't had a post this week. I want us to go down the aisle together. I'm getting ready to start my pre-op, at the stage where I'm trying to figure out what & how much to buy. Since I rely on walkers and wheelchairs to get around, my best friend does a lot of shopping for me. But she is going on vacation today, and won't be back till Aug. 11. So I'm gonna order online. I've collected a bunch of info ... like a list of almost 100 recipes for Protein shakes. I've also got some interesting recipes for mushy and soft foods. But now I gotta focus on the full liquid diet. I'm wondering if I should order drinks or powder. What do you think? And what exactly is Greek yogurt? I tried Protein Shakes awhile back, but they did nothing to quell my hunger. Can I eat cheese sticks on liquids? I've never liked cottage cheese, but everyone talks about eating it. What can I mix with it to make it more palatable? Seems like a lot of people have blenders like Nutri Bullet, etc. They are kinda pricey. Any suggestions?

Thanks to everyone who are going through wat I am going through now it really helps me a lot and makes me feel less alone. I will try to get those gas x strips continue my fluids and also try some cream soup. Today I was more active and walked more I tried low fat yogurt and sips of a protein shake but I didn't have the urge to finish it all. It's true your taste buds do really change . I really would rather eat something very cheesy but I know I am not able to. I'm just almost one week down so let's hope it gets better. Thanks everyone again for making me feel better. -
I do think the sooner you can move to real food for your Protein sources, the better you'll feel. Protein derived almost exclusively from those shakes just isn't as good as the nutrients you can get from food. I think you might be expecting too much of yourself; you've just had the surgery this month. You've had a remarkable amount of weight loss, and it is awesome that you want to get your energy back RIGHT NOW so you can exercise, but this was major surgery and your stomach is still very, very raw and swollen (will be for months) so please don't push too hard trying to do things your body isn't ready for, or get discouraged that it isn't happening the way you want. Be patient with yourself. You had a long hard journey to get to the point where you had the surgery, and it won't be resolved overnight (or in a few months). Maybe start trying to add in fruit/protein smoothies (have a blender?) try using yogurt, almond milk, ice, real fruit - things like bananas and avacado (for the healthy fat and calories) and sip on those when you can. You'll get some protein, calories and fats to help up your calorie intake and still should be gentle on your stomach/digestion. Scrambled eggs with a bit of cheddar cheese was a good soft food for protein/calories in the beginning (once I could eat solids). It didn't agree with me for the first couple of months, tho (threw up that and chicken until around 3 months out). Refried Beans (especially black beans) with a bit of cheese on top also really good for calories/energy.

I was sleeved the 12th too, just started on soft foods and I've made plenty of mistakes! When I make a mistake, it either comes right back up and/or I'm miserable for an hour. Stuff that worked: Tuna salad Quail (make sure it's moist) Cottage cheese and yogurt Sweet potatoes Soft cooked cabbage Soft cooked carrots Seafood (haddock, catfish, shrimp, tilapia, it's all good) Beans, refried, mashed, whole, puréed etc Snow cones with sugar free syrup (a blessing on a hot day) Not so good: Cheesy Soups Melted cheese Soft Cooked spinach Soft Cooked broccoli Mashed white potato Good luck!

Ideas for on-the-go lunches?
Alex Brecher replied to Indieflickers's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Indieflickers, Good for you for noticing early that your own lunches aren’t looking as good anymore compared to the catered lunches you’re seeing! What about: veggie burgers with a side of veggies (grape tomatoes, baby carrots, bell pepper strips; hard-boiled eggs with some fruit; drinkable yogurt (since you can’t use a spoon at your job); roasted soybeans or garbanzo beans; high-Protein snack foods (like pretzels or chips that are sold at online specialty stores). -
Looking for some veteran sleeve guidance… HELP!
RJ'S/beginning replied to GreenEyes604's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Most people have buyers remorse earlier on. I didn't but I am strange...lol Your stomach is giving you trouble. It is something you really need to discuss with your surgeon. There are Protein powders you can add to yogurt and pudding not to mention cottage cheese. Try eggs. Do they stay down. I can eat scrambled but not fried. Protein shakes or smoothies might be an option for now. I spent 5.5 months only consuming Protein drinks and a little ice cream which I cannot eat now..It hates me! You have to find what you can tolerate at this point. Trying is the only way. If you are not eating enough your body will stop you dead from losing. It is your bodies way of protecting itself right now. Also if you are not drinking enough Water. It will affect your stomach and bowels. That is why it is so important to get the water in. Contact your surgeon he may have a good idea how you can cope with this for now. -
Apple season is here and the weather is a little cooler. We went to Watsonville (home of Martinellis Sparkling Cider and juice) and bought Newton Pippins.i wanted apple crisp with ice cream, but made this heathy substitute instead. Peel, core, and slice two small apples. In a fry pan with lid, Stir together 1 Tbsp. sugar free apricot jelly, 1/4 cup Splenda, and 1/2 cup Water. Add the apple slices and a dash of cinnamon and heat to boiling. Cover and simmer it for about 5 minutes or apples are soft, then uncover and cook down the sauce. Mix 1 cup Greek yogurt with Splenda to taste. Optionally add 1 tsp honey for flavor. Put 1/2 cup Special K Cereal in a Baggie and crush to coarse crumbs. Divide yogurt into two bowls, top with apples and cereal. Yum!

Can't get enough calories to exercise...
BLERDgirl replied to lorilove's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I would add more Protein rich items to the Protein Shakes. I always try to bookend my workouts with good carbs and protein. Someone mentioned a few things like adding avocado to your Protein Drink. In addition to that I also add Fage 0% greek yogurt, nut butter and spinach or spinach/kale puree to my protein drinks. I make the spinach or spinach/kale puree by blending it in the vitamix with just enough Water to liquefy and freezing into ice trays. I then add one cube to each drink. I make my protein drinks using water and then pack loads of ice on them. I drink half pre-work out and the other after post workout. This fuels my workout so I am burning fat and keeps my energy up. The additives also keep my calories at a good level and using water & ice counts toward my Fluid goals. That said, give your body time to heal. Your energy will return. Then strive to get some sort of exercise in everyday. Don't get overly focused on calories. I ate 400 calories for the first 2 weeks post op. Then ate 400 - 600 until 3mths post op. From 3 - 9 months I ate between 600 - 800 and currently eat between 800 - 1000. The new tummy is tiny. It can't hold much. As long as that protein level is good you should be okay. -

sugar free Jello cup Yoplait light Yogurt Chopped Walnuts In a wine glass, half of the jello chopped up,1/4 container Yogurt, other half Jello,1/4 container Yogurt and sprinkle with chopped walnuts. 35 calories I believe plus walnuts. I usually make one for my husband too and that way I dont have to save the 1/2 yogurt. Black Cherry Jello+Very vanilla Yogurt is good

The Healthy Choice fudge bars are my evening munch treat. The ice cream sandwhiches are good too--but I can't buy those cuz I'll eat the whole box. I like the yoplait WHIPPED yogurt too (less cals). Most of all I find it helps to keep my hands busy. I've done a lot of sewing/mending projects... even brought out my bathroom drawers to cleanout while watching TV and refolded/organized my linen closet like I've been meaning to do for the past decade.

What Are You Eating At 8 Weeks
StevieSmithtown replied to marimar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i like hard boiled eggs and / or greek yogurt for breakfast. yesterday for the first time since 4/23, i ate an entire tuna on whole wheat sandwich. lots and lots of homemade lentil soup. the last batch i made i cooked with pork bracciole which made it fantastic!! the shredded pork just melts into the lentils. i've had small amounts of pasta which i love but keep to a minimum. on the days where we go out for dinner i always order fish now. as i type this i'm getting a little hungry and wondering what to have for lunch. ?? for snacks i've been having two wedges of laughing cow lite cheese with a few whole wheat ritz crackers. i'm still waiting to have apples and peaches. i think i can tolerate the fruit but my nutritionist says to hold off on fruits and salad. i can't wait to have a nice salad with some blue cheese dressing. maybe today is the day i try some for lunch ?? -

am so totally frustrated ! Maybe someone can clarify for me. I am 4 weeks postop, eating soft foods...turkey,puréed Soup yogurt, cottage cheese, Baby Bells, etc. I take in about 450 to 550 calories, 40-60 g of protein and most days drink 36oz water (sometimes a little more) and I have not lost any weight in 3 weeks since my first doctors apt a week after surgery. I cannot believe I went threw all this and feel like such a failure. What should I do ?! -
Almost three weeks post-op--how do you feel?
kaydin81 replied to sho's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm right there with both of you. I was banded 6/30. Feel like I can eat a ton. I try not to let myself. I've only lost 4 lbs (other than the preop diet) since surgery. It is a little frustrating, but I try my hardest not to let it bother me. I've started eating the Dannon greek yogurt. Its the consistancy of sour cream and was hard to get use to, but now I like it :-) And it has 12 g protein! Lets try to stay focused. Our fills are around the same time, 8/9 is mine. I'm wondering how much my surgeon will put in. But, it probably won't be enough for too much satisfaction. I'm just trying to be happy in the present and the rest will fall into place. Try and stay positive and work hard the next couple weeks....WE CAN DO IT! -
I have mixed 1/2 scoop of powder with Greek yogurt (I love Dannon light ,& For Greek strawberry Cheesecake with 1/2 scoop vanilla powder) or sugar free chocolate pudding snack with 1/2 scoop of chocolate powder). Sent from my HTC One M9 using the BariatricPal App

I'm so glad to read this thread. I am so tired of the Protein drinks, powders and shakes and I'm only 1-week post-op. I have to psych myself up just to make myself swallow it. I'm grossed out by the artificial ingredients, the foaminess of some, the texture of others... I know it's a necessity, but it's a struggle already and the only thing I'm hung up on. I move to a mushy-consistency phase tomorrow and am praising the lord for Greek yogurt and higher-protein soup choices.
