It took me 6 months to tolerate eggs and cheese. Eggs by themselves I was fine. Yogurt... Still scares me I got so sick. Maybe add some lactaid tablets? It has been great for me! I wish I had taken it sooner, because I may want to actually try yogurt again.

It sounds like you are doing better!? And sounds delicious.. I'm to scared to eat to many carbs, so no fruit for me. I LOVE PB2 . It's great to sprinkle over yogurt, as a topping..Me too !!! Scared of carbs. Have to allow some or I have zero energy. I am doing better , thanks. It has been a rough road. Half banana was first fruit since surgery. It feels good to just feel good again. I'm not eating much , I really don't feel hungry. I know I have to eat. Probably taking in about 300 to 350 calories a day. Which is insane. I'm not having any cravings. For now anyway. I know this can change. One day at a time is all I can do. Thanks Salonboi for your feedback. Actually thanks to all on this thread , even if your not talking to me , I hear you ???? -

chicken salad and tuna salad. Also greek yogurt. Enjoy! -
I have had peanut butter, yogurt, fresh fruit, and sugar free popsicles. I use moderation.

I never crushed, though I know of others who have and then mixed the bits into sugar-free applesauce, Greek yogurt, or mashed potatoes. I cut my larger Vitamins (multi, calcium). Post-op meds were liquid (Vicodin) and very small tablets (Pepcid). For what it's worth, a too-large pill that gets "stuck" is uncomfortable, but with time and drinking fluids it WILL go down.

3 days post op

I have that same itchy stripe under one boob. I freak out for a second and had my husband take a look at it. My mouth isn't really dry but I constantly have an awful taste. I started with protein this morning. I'll have some yogurt in another 45 minutes. Sipping is a full time job. No wonder I had to take 3 weeks off work. -
Crushing pills into Protein shake
Debbie Jean replied to hambleto's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctors orders were to crush pills for two weeks. Then I was allowed to swallow anything smaller than my little finger tip. At one month I was cleared to swallow all pills including the "horse pills" I took for blood pressure. I spoke to the pharmacist to make sure crushing was appropriate to my medications. Interestingly even she had to look one up to be sure. I put them in whatever I could get down. For me this was mostly mixed into a little yogurt. But I would certainly have put them in a Protein shake so I think you are just fine doing it that way. As in all things, though, speak with YOUR surgeon or nutritionist since they may have a preference. Good news is that this is just short term and with the weight loss you may very well find you need less medications! -
Give yourself a break and have something. Try to incorporate some sweets into your routine. Its a great time of year for fresh fruit. But as others said, there's yogurt (the whips) are great, pudding, popsicles, and plenty of other stuff.

I'm one month out Monday, still having nausea, & can only tolerate string cheese, yogurt, and broth. Anyone else have this issue? -
Has anyone had mashed potatoes 2 weeks postop?
wannaBthinsoon replied to nickbel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love love love pureed cauliflower, with plain greek yogurt mixed in and shredded cheese (& garlic and chopped onion and crumbled bacon) I made the best loaded baked cauliflower ever, and it saved me during those days. Tastes just like loaded baked potato!! If you can't have the bacon, just pick it out. But it flavors the cauliflower very well!! You can google the recipe, it's a pretty popular recipe. -
Preparations for after surgery
Inner Surfer Girl replied to sarahlyn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had quite a long time to prepare so I went on a bit of a shopping spree gradually picking up things I thought I could use. I also happen to love buying things like pretty dishes. Some of the things I bought that I found useful or plan to use in the near future: Heating pad Biotene Chapstick (Above for hospital and post-op) Adult liquid Tylenol Appetizer spoons (some people like toddler dishes, etc. - I prefer adult things that happen to be small) Sushi dishes Saki cups Small rice bowls (I use these all the time) - 9 oz so comfortably holds 1/2 -3/4 cup yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. Glass 1/2 cup containers (with lids) Plastic 1/2 cup ziplock containers (with lids) A Soup mug (I had a pretty pottery one already) A food scale Good measuring cups/spoons (if you don't have already) Samples of a variety of Protein shakes/powders Blender (if you don't have one -- I don't use it much) Good Water bottle(s) Shaker bottle for mixing shakes Vitamins -
I've had sweet things but don't count them as "slips". Protein shakes, fruit, yogurt, pudding, fruit drinks (like crystal light, and Popsicles have all been plenty sweet.

Eleven months out. I have a low calorie English muffin with some sort of cheese on top or peanut butter. Occasionally it's a home made egg mcmuffin with turkey bacon. Lunch is varied, greek yogurt and a small banana, chicken and a small salad,a chicken fajita with beans, but no tortilla. 2 snacks one is usually cottage cheese. Sometimes nuts or cheese and crackers or yogurt or turkey meatballs. Supper is some sort of protein with about1/4 cup/1/2 cup of veg. Occasionally 1/2 cup of potato or rice. I occasionally have sugar free ice pops and sugar free pudding or jello.

I use the Isopure unflavored. I actually prefer it over the flavored ones. No sugar, no carbs and not a bunch of junk to trigger my food allergies. I add it to my protein shakes in the morning that I make from scratch with Fage 0% greek yogurt. I also add them to soup, coffee, and teas both hot and cold. It's a nice added protein boost.
-
I haven't bought any of the unflavored because I am not having any issues with my Protein intake. I use one Protein shake a day and it has 30g in it. With the fish, chicken and turkey I eat I get enough in my day. I also use greek yogurt as my snack when I want to have one and I manage to get 60-80 g a day.

2 week liquid pre-op diet
ANewBeginning15 replied to freelee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello, I'm also on day 3 of the 2 week liquid diet. I was struggling the first 2 days. Today is a little better and I don't have the headache anymore. Yes, I'm hungry, but it's tolerable. I couldn't wait to get this liquid diet started, but honestly, I didn't expect it to be quite the challenge that it turned out to be. But I think it will make it easier to adjust to the new dietary lifestyle after the surgery. It won't be quite as drastic of a change. They are allowing me to have smoothies, creamy Soup, juice, SF pudding, yogurt without chunks, things that can be drunk through a straw. Seems a little less restrictive than what some of you are talking about. -
What serving sizes are you eating

I am curious about the amount other people can eat. Like I can eat 1/2 cup of potato soup, 1/2 of a small sweet potato with plain yogurt, etc. -

It's going very well so far. I actually feel better than I have in a long time. While I miss a lot of foods, especially yogurt and cheese sticks, my congestion and some skin issues have cleared up in only a few days. I have more energy. I LOVE the taste of the foods my husband and I have made. I've realized I still have an attachment/addiction to some foods (chocolate, ice cream, Splenda) that needs to be broken. Like breaking any addiction it's not easy, but I know it will be worth it! Here is a look at some of the meals we ate this week: -

Never thought of mixing with protein powder. That's a great idea. I do plain greek yogurt with lemon crystal light, but your way make sure to get extra protein in. Great tip! -

What happens if food keeps getting stuck?
Debbie3sons replied to Carrie81's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Unfortunately WE do have to learn to eat a LOT more slowly & chew any bite of food till it's like mush , I am 3 years out & I still have to chew like that , even when I eat something soft like yogurt , I have to let it sit until it's consistency of liquid until I can take another bite & if there is fruit added or granola , I still have to eat that way & if I eat at a restaurant , I have to put my fork, knife & spoon which ever it is I'm using down between bites & I ask for a glass of Tea NO sugar or water just in case but I always ask for a to go container & cup because I know I won't finish, also YOU may want to mention to YOUR SURGEON that food keeps getting stuck that's what they are for to help YOU , if you need some answers.
