Over 300 pounds, when did you notice a difference?
back2barb78 replied to Kiap82's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My high weight was 333lbs and surgery day I was 299. My first NSV was when I went it was time to go back to work a month later, I put my scrub pants on and they fell down! Nice! I'm having another NSV right now at the pedicurist. I usually had to squeeze into this pedicure chair and the side of the darn thing wouldn't even close (how embarrassing), but I'm happy to say I'm sitting pretty and comfy with both sides closed with space to spare! Yay! I'm finally excited to travel and can't wait to take my first flight WITHOUT an extender -
Congrats Robin! I am a little over half way there at 55% of my weight gone. Another nice NSV is that I was able to buy clothes in size 22 yesterday. Haven't seen 22 in 18 years. Woo-hoo! Cindy

That is exciting and impressive!! Thanks for sharing your inspirational NSV!!! I can’t wait to feel healed enough to start C25K! Jogging/running and doing races is one of the things I’m most excited about on this journey!!

"I didn't recognize you"
Miss Mac replied to Daisee68's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It was one of my favorite compliments. At six months out, I had to see a specialist that I had not seen since a couple of weeks pre-op. I was on the treatment table and the doctor looked at the nurse and said, "Are you sure we have the right patient on the table?" They rechecked my ID band and my chart and re-verified my name and birthday verbally. I had to show the doctor my incisions to convince him that I had surgery and lost over 60 pounds. It was my first NSV. -

Big NSV today! I pulled a pair of size 14 jeans out of my closet just to see how far I need to go to fit into them and I got them on......and zipped! :faint: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: Now, I wouldn't wear them out in public because they are a tad bit tight and they give me a serious muffin top, but just the fact I was able to zip them was amazing. Now, I'm working on getting into the size 14 levi's too. They are a bit smaller than the generic Walmart jeans. And not quite as stretchy. But I'm getting there. All that walking/jogging and working on the treadclimber has paid off. I also went and got some stretchy cords from Walmart today to start working on my strength training. It's cheaper than going to the gym and just as effective. I have all the stuff here at home to get a good work out, so why am I paying for a gym membership? I think I'm going to cancel it since I'm not using it. Myra!!!! Man, girl, you are doing awesome!!! Just amazing. Keep up the good work!:clap2:

Tropicana ~ My fill appointment went fine. But I am not sure what my restriction level is because I am afraid to test it. I usually just eat very little and mostly Protein. I have dropped another 4 pounds so that's exciting..I've got to update my ticker again. I also have a pair of pants today that are 22/24 (they have elastic in the waist) but I am still excited. I was wearing 26/28 (with elastic) & 30/32 without. So, that was a GREAT NSV for me! I also purchased a skirt that is size 24 w/out elastic - yeah! No, I did not have to see a psych or a nutritionist.

Every day is a choice!

thanks for the post. I really needed this today!!! I am in SE Kansas where it has flooded. My home not hurt however was flooded in town with my Assisted Living, and our church is a Red Cross shelter and we are doing the food. Things have been sooooooooooooo crazy! I told DH tonight on our 1 hour drive around the h20 to get home, i have to get back on schedule.. it has been easy to pick. I have dropped 50# in 7 weeks, which i am very happy with. actually that was in 5 weeks and i haven't weighed since i have to go to drs to be able to weigh. I had a NSV this weekend before the flood, i have gone from 5x shirts to a comfortable 3x yahoo. and down 2 pants sizes. So i am the one that is rambling but thanks for the post on choice.. I choose to live and to make a difference in my life. thank you!!!!! -
Hello everyone, Like most people I did great my first month (lost 20 pounds), but this second month has been a struggle (gained and lost the same 2-3 pounds, twice!). Today I was hoping to be down at least 21, 22 pounds....and although I was down 1 pound, still 20 pounds total! I was getting a little frustrated. However today is October 1 and on the first of every month I said I would take some pictures to track my progress (3 profile pictures in 4 different outfits). I almost didn't take them today and was telling myself, "you haven't lost anything just take the pictures next month". But oh my goodness, I'm so glad I did this today! I really didn't think anything changed over the month because of the scale issues. But the pictures tell a different story!! I could really see a difference between last months pics and today!! So feeling good and proud of my progress, although a little slow and the scale didn't show it this month, there was progress! Thank you pictures! And holy crap, comparing today with August 1....wow, I can't believe the difference!! I did start working out again two weeks ago as well....so maybe that has effected things too! I hope everyone else has been taking pictures

I hadn't planned on wearing "real" pants for another month or so, but today in Southern California is rainy with lightening and a bit chilly. Wearing my "summer" capri pull-on pants just didn't fit the bill nor do they pair well with my boots. So, I took a deep breath and walked to the section of the closet reserved for when I reach my 120 lb mark (I'm at about 105 lb loss right now). I put on the size 14 pants with a zipper and side pockets . . . AND THEY FIT! Yep, my name is Deann and I wear a size 14 pant! Down from a size 28! Just needed to share with people who "get it"! Thank you for being my support team!

Not selfish to get healthy and treating a disease. You will be modeling this lifestyle for your kids. They will be learning your habits of eating healthy and activity/exercise. One of my NSVs is keeping up with my active 3 year old grandson and 5 month old granddaughter. Congrats on your upcoming surgery.

Wow, that is definitely an awesome NSV. And, I am sure he is so proud of you. Sent from my iPad using VST

Running, Size Changes, and Getting Adjusted
DivaStyleCoach commented on DivaStyleCoach's blog entry in Blog 46130
Hi Everyone! I'm happy to report that I started and finished the Couch-to-5k running program, and on Saturday, October 17th, I ran my first 5k race! It was called the Penguin 5k, and raises funds for the Penguins at Mystic Aquarium in Connecticut. Since I'd completed the Couch-to-5k program - a 9 week program that takes you from walking and no running to running 3 miles - I figured I was ready for a race. I took longer than 9 weeks to complete the program because I repeated some weeks when I felt I wasn't ready. That was one of the smartest things I've ever done - it let me complete the program injury-free. The race was fun - a bright, clear day, lots of other runners around. The course went from asphalt (roads) through a field (plowed / cleared but still bumpy and a bit muddy from recent rains) and then up a hill (tree roots, rocks, and more soft dirt - oh my!), through a subdivision (killer hill there) and into a cul-de-sac, where we turned around and ran back. When the race started, I kinda figured I'd be at the back of the pack, so to speak, and I was right! The "rabbits" took off in a bunch - they were really fast compared to me. There were some people who walked the course, and there was me and a couple of others, running slowly and chugging along. I finished the race in 45:10 - slower than I'd thought I would, but I was happy to finish! I was second-to-last, but the cheers from my fellow racers along the way and the thumbs-up I got from the volunteers along the route helped me to feel great about finishing. I'm going to continue to run, and while I may not do another race before Winter sets in, I'm already thinking about next spring and what races I'd like to do. I have a goal to reduce my time by 10% for the next 5k. My weight is pretty stable at 191 lbs, and I'm okay with that. My size keeps dropping, though - I am now fitting into size 14's (depending on label) and some size L clothes from Target. I'm so excited I can barely stand it - these are wonderful NSV's! I think my body has to have time to adjust to what I've done to it :huh2: I'm able to control the hunger so far - though I know that's as much a function of my band, "Jillian" as it is of my "willpower". I'm eating more protein and trying to balance the carbohydrates. I'm close to getting off my diabetes meds and I'm hoping November will be not only my 1 year Bandiversary, but also the month I leave the meds behind. I'm also adjusting my "head" - occasionally I am still surprised when I walk past a mirror and see the new, thinner me. I still think of myself as "plus-sized", though I really don't fit that designation any more. I've been a Big Girl for so long that when someone refers to me as "skinny", I often don't know who they are talking about! The head journey is going to be the longest part of this - while my body is adjusting, my head also needs to adjust, and so far, my head is lagging behind... Right now I am nursing a sore right hip - think I overdid it a bit on the race but that's not going to stop me from continuing to run and continuing to run this race to fitness and health. If you are not yet banded, I encourage you to do your research and determine if this is right for you. If you are banded and struggling, talk to your doctor, your nutritionist or a counselor, and get yourself back on track - you CAN succeed at this! If you are loving your banded life as I am, and making progress toward your ultimate goal of health and well-being, then GOOD FOR YOU and keep up the good work! Till next time... -
You're gorgeous! It's a great idea to keep track of the numbers, the visuals, and the non-scale victories (NSV)! Congratulations and I wish you the best on your journey!

Thats a really cool NSV. I love the idea of comparing the shirts. I will do that...later.
