  1. I met with the dr. on 12/26/19 and I have already received clearance from my primary dr. to have the gastric sleeve. I am currently making all of the necessary appointments my insurance and my surgeon requires. If all goes as planned, April 2020 is the goal for the surgery. I am nervous and excited, as I'm sure everyone was. I know this is going to be a huge change and an even bigger commitment, but I am ready to be able to run around, play laser tag, go zip lining and just me a million times more active with my children. I appreciate all the positive and encouraging feedback. Everyone here seems to be amazing and I look forward to being more involved in this wonderful community!!

    Not losing weight

It could be worse. I'm 2 months out and I only lost 7 lbs last month. And that is with tracking, counting, measuring, and exercising faithfully. Sent from my Nexus 10 using the BariatricPal App
  3. Hi!! I was sleeved in July 2018. Been in maintenance for a while now. Since 10 mos or so out. My surgery was uneventful (in a good way) stayed overnight which really didn’t think I needed to. No pain other than from the gas bc it was laparoscopic. Home w no problems. Out grocery shopping four days later. I’m very thankful it was an easy road for me. I also hadn’t ever had any surgery to my abdomen before which made it a clean slate. Also followed pre op diet to a t so my liver would be shrunk and as I was instructed. I feel like It’s important to follow everything your Dr says to do. I wish you an uneventful surgery as well!!! Welcome to the club!!
  4. My advice... dont stress over the impending liquid diet.... As Nike says... Just do it!! It is better for you and better for the surgeons.... And really after the 2nd-3rd day it is a breeze....Make sure you take in a good amount of Protein it will curve your hunger... Here is what a day is like for me...You can put crystal light in your Water to help as well. You can even have another shake if you need to.... I do now and then..... wake up 24 oz of water before Breakfast sugar free carnation instant breakfast made with skim milk and 1/3 cup dry non fat milk 24 ounce of water to be drank until next shake 10 ounces of warm(not boiling it will ruin protein.. so hottest you can get out of tap) water and one scoop of 100% whey unflavored powder with a teaspoon and a half of better then bouillon chicken base 24 ounces of water to be drank before next shake 1 strawberry shake made with water and 1/3 cup of powdered milk and a teaspoon of cinnamon 24 ounces of water before next shake Warm chocolate Protein Shake made with water and 1/3 cup of powdered milk sip on water till bed water intake 90+OUNCES Protein intake about 90 grams calorie intake about 715 calories

    Getting banded July 15

I had no problems. I had so little pain after surgery that I didn't take the pain meds I was given. I was a little sore and couldn't sleep on my left side for a week or two, and had trouble getting up out of a chair--anything that used my abdominal muscles--for a week or so. I lost 19 lb pre op to make the surgery easier. I stayed strictly on my post op diet of clear liquids for a week then full liquids for two weeks after that. I have lost weight pretty steadily since then, except for a plateau of about 8 weeks a couple of months ago, which I overcame by being more careful about the amount and type of food I ate and upping my exercise. I'm 6 lb from goal now, 9 months after surgery. I cannot stress enough the importance of avoiding solid food for 3 weeks or more post surgery. Don't mess this up long term just because you feel fine; the band has to have time to heal in place around your stomach for it to work properly. You risk slippage by eating before it has healed. The long term successes don't post here that much, I think, because they get so tired of arguing with the ones who say, "I feel fine so I don't have to follow my doctor's orders." Following a diet is hard for us all, but it isn't forever and it may save you a world of hurt down the road. You can do it. The second error I see a lot of people falling into is getting too much of a fill so they are too restricted. This can also lead to long term damage from reflux and frequent pbing, or regurgitating food because it cannot pass through the band stoma. Not every instance of slippage and difficulties are due to patient noncompliance, but I feel those occurrences are greatly reduced by following accepted guidelines for post op diet and getting proper fills. This does take some work and it isn't a slam dunk, but the band has helped me lose the extra weight I have struggled with for nearly 50 years. My BMI was listed at 35 (my doctor actually mismeasured my height and gave me an extra inch) and my insurance approved me due to elevated blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar, as well as chronic acid reflux and joint problems. I had the surgery in Mexico and my insurance reimbursed me 90%.

    Non band fill question please...

I was banded in april and I have not had a fill due to infection complications that forced the removal of my port. I have lost 50 #'s so far. Even when I get my port back I don't plan to have a fill unless my hunger is totally out of control. Everyone here talks like hunger is a bad thing and it isn't. It just means our body needs some fuel. Like you I only portion what I should have and I always wait 10 mins if I 'think" I need more. Seldom do I still want any more and am usually glad I didn't eat any more. The few times I have, I ended up with the shoulder pain you hear so much about. I try not to be 'full' only satisfied with my meals. If it has been 3 hours and I am feeling a little hungry I eat a small protien snack (usually protien only) and I am fine. A lot of people wamt the band to do all the work and it can't. You still have to make good food choices most of the time. Can you indulge occasionally, Absolutely but this is where the band helps you eat much lest then you did before. I find I don't have the raging hungry I ha before with just the band and I probably could stuff myself with more but Why would I. We all know going in that you have to make changes so why do this to ourselves. NOt me.

Apnea and will NOT use Cpap

Breanne, I am a "hose-head" who has used my CPAP faithfully for the past 2 years. I was shocked when I first found out that I had sleep apnea, then it all began to make sense- the snoring, being obese, the fatigue. The fatigue before I started my CPAP was practically debilitating- I could easily fall asleep sitting at a red light. What a huge difference the CPAP has made in my life! I wasn't so sure that I could sleep with a mask on my face, either, but you get accustomed to it pretty quick and it becomes part of your sleep routine. I wake up feeling refreshed, ready to tackle the day. I even bought a battery pack for my CPAP so I can use it when I go camping. I am 5 weeks post-op now and have lost about 40 pounds so far (pre-op diet and post-op), with about 70 pounds more to go. I'm hoping that my sleep apnea will be cured with losing weight, but I'm ok with it if I will still need my CPAP when I get to goal, if it means I will sleep well and feel well. There's actually quite a few skinny people in the world who have sleep apnea and use a CPAP! So I encourage you to rethink about trying the CPAP- at least take it out of the box and give it a try. You might be amazed at how much better you feel in just a few days. Sleep apnea is a serious disorder, and can lead to other health problems if not treated. I was shocked to find out that I stopped breathing 19 times per hour during my sleep study, and am thankful that my CPAP keeps me breathing continuously through the night now. Just give it a try- I think you'll feel a difference. Good luck!
  9. I paid $500 in advance, and the balance (by cashier's check) the day I arrived at the hospital. I spent one night at the hotel and three at the hospital. We all left around 7 am for the airport and it is recommended you try to schedule your flight (I think) for noon-ish. There is a mall not far from the hospital, but I have to say, my companion was kind of bored. The hospital is about a 10 minute drive from the hotel - my Dad stayed at the hotel for the whole time, rather than staying with me at the hospital and he took cabs back and forth - about $5.00/trip. (Using US dollars was fine... we never changed any of our money into pesos.) The drive from the airport to the hospital is about 90 minutes - it takes longer going back, because of the wait at the border when entering the US. Feel free to ask any other questions you may have. Margo
  10. Omg. I am low bmi 32.6. I am getting sleeved on jan 3. And I told everyone about my surgery. I don't care what they think I am doing this for myself. You either with me or not. No one is changing my mind. I am doing it with or without your blessings. I'm tired of dieting. I need a tool to assist me in my journey. I don't have any co morbidities but why wait until that happen??? I'm being proactive. And making the life changing decision now while I have that chance. I'm 38. I weigh 190 right now lost 10 pounds so far on pre op diet. I'm very excited to start this journey and hope to share my experience with everyone Oh by the way. I am going to Mexico and having my surgery with dr Jesus Ortiz. He was trained by dr Lopez and dr osuna. I went through a lighter me and Ronda She has been a wonderful coordinator and I am very grateful. To her and a lighter me.
  11. I have not been sleeved yet. My husband is actually going to be sleeved before me. He has told his mom and sister about both of us. I have told my 10 and 14 yr. old and my mom and one male friend from high school who is probably 600+ lbs. and he almost died last year from complications of his weight. He is 47 yrs old and is basically home bound. My husband said he called a few weeks ago and said that he is considering having gastric by pass. I don't want to have to cry over him again.

    Purging your clothing

I purged clothing the whole time. When I got to 12 I purged the 16s, got to 10 purged the 14s. Now I am at 6 and I have nothing larger than an 8.

    Purging your clothing

I was a size 22 and didn't buy new clothes until I was size 18. Mostly because plus sizes fit for so long - all that elastic. When my pants started falling, that's when I discovered I was a size 18. I would buy two pairs of pants and 4-5 shirts and then repeat once I'd dropped two sizes. So at size 14, 10, etc. Basically, I bought just what I could get by with for work because I want to save my pennies for when I'm at goal. It's no fun, especially when you see all the cute clothes that you can now fit into, but I just keep my eye on the prize at the end. I purged my closet each time I had to buy new clothes. If it didn't fit, it went. Just donate and get rid of it all. Don't agonize over it or think of the wasted money or anything - just let it all go. It's very freeing to see that nearly empty closet and know it's because you've made such progress and done something amazing for yourself.

    Typical weight loss

I was banded on 11/13/09. I lost 10 pre-op and 12 post-op so far. I've noticed that since I started on the mushie stage I've come to a stop. I figure my body is readjusting from liguids.
  16. Thanks is just that my appt Is not until the 19 so I really do not know Im so confused but I'll be strong but I just really want to cry.
  17. I am scheduled for 10:30, I have to be at the hospital at 7:30. They pushed it back by a half an hour. I am sure they did that just to make me more crazy! LOL! I just took my milk of magnesia (YUCK!) and all I can do is Clear liquids then nothing at all after midnight. I am packed and ready to go. I think I will go to bed early, it will make the morning come faster! LOL!!!! As I used to say to the boys when they were little.."one more sleep!" Wish me luck!!!!!

    Paronoid!

Wow! When you wrote this on Feb 16th, you were 19 days out from surgery and had lost 23 pounds! That blows my mind

    started purees today...hungry?

I really like the attitude that you are taking. I havent even started mushies and Im already stressing over how much liquid I am drinking at one sitting. I think it would be safe to say 8-10 oz in an hour, when I was told 4 oz would be max. I think I will spare myself the headache about worrying how much is too much. As long as it is somewhat within the range given by the dr, not in the extreme, I feel satisfied, I stay active and Im losing then I will (try to) not worry about it. Maybe easier said than done?

How did you determine your goal?

I picked 135. I am 5'5". That would be a BMI of 22.5, and 5-10 lbs lighter than I was before I got fat. I plan to get my body fat percentage measured once I get under 150 lbs so I can adjust my goal if needed.

    Anyone have RNY on 01-18-16

I had surgery 1/19. I've had 2 subsequent surgeries for complications, but seem to be holding my own now. It's good to read how everyone deals with different problems, I can use all the ideas I can get! Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App

    Anyone have RNY on 01-18-16

Sounds like you are off to a great start...I had A LOT of gas post op and still have the occasional problem with it....it's a good thing to not have dumping besides...we can't fit that much in there anyways lol....i am down 19....26 including the end day preop clears.... 3 day*
  24. So I have been to Steve & Barry's 3 times now and each time I am terribly disappointed. Sara Jessica Parker's new line of clothing "Bitten" is supposed to fit women sizes 2-22; however, SHE LIES!!! I am a size 16/18 now and I couldn't find anything that would fit. Clothing sizes can be so frustrating. In one store you can be a 16 and in the next store you are a 20. It sucks when the scale is going down but your clothing is not reflecting it. Oh well maybe in 20lbs I will see the size change. I am beginning to wonder if I will ever make an 8/10.
  25. Hi all! I definitely can eat more but I make sure that I measure everything I can. I follow the philosophy "just because I can doesn't mean I should". I can probably eat 4 oz of dense protein but I don't want to stuff my new tummy. Do I still overeat at times? Yes. Do I still eat too often because I "think" I'm hungry? Yes.There are days when I eat closer to 1400 calories because I tend to eat out often for my business. On those days I try to work out a bit more. Please remember that I had a Lapband for almost 10 years prior to plication so I've had a lot of time to get used to measuring, chewing and eating this way. It takes time. I have been very interested in how naturally thin people live and eat. Some of the things I've noticed are they almost always keep a loose track of their calories, if they are going to eat out or eat a large meal then they cut back on calories in other meals and they are active on an almost daily basis. I am trying to live this way as well. My goal for the plication is to not only lose weight but to keep it off forever, something I didn't do with the band.
