    Pureed food ideas

Can I ask, what kind of food stage schedule does your doctor use? I had surgery on 9/10 and I’m supposed to be on clear liquids until 9/24, puréed 9/25-10/8, adaptive/soft 10/9-12/9. Seems like such a long time but I’m sure he has set it this way for a reason. At least now I understand why the other people at my meetings were complaining about just wanting a salad SO badly! Lol

    Food Before and After Photos

Ok, had to travel to the other side of Dallas yesterday afternoon and didn't want to drive home until after the traffic cleared. So, one of my sons and I went out to eat at Chili's. I had the Southwestern Soup and the Cajun Chicken Pasta. (Yes, it's a ton of food, but it was a $10 deal and I knew the leftovers would be well received at home!) Yes, the picture at the bottom (showing both dishes) is the AFTER! But I did eat some actual grilled CHICKEN!

    Update

Hey way to go!!! I'm 6 weeks out as well and my doc keeps his patients on soft foods for 3 months. I have a follow-up appointment 10/31 and am hoping to be down at 45 pounds, I'm a 30 now. Good luck to you in the future
  4. Really? Yep, this stage is 10 days, then 3B I can add scrambled eggs. Maybe I should go back to just the shakes. The pain is pretty uncomfortable.
  5. My plan has me not drink 10 min before, none during, and 20 after. The only time this has been an issue for me has been when I've eaten something spicy. I do take a drink of water shortly after I eat lunch in order to take my vitamins.

    November sleevers here

10 months today! Down 117.4 lbs since the picture on the left was taken. 256.6 lbs on the day of surgery to 139.2 lbs this morning.
  7. On Sept 6, I was denied surgery due to "not following doctor's orders." My starting weight was around 307 and my weight contract stated I was to get to 296 or under. The last weigh in I did I was 292 and I also did all my clearances. I have AmeriHealth Caritas and when they sent me a denial letter, I had called my doc's office and they appealled it for me and shown them proof I lost the required weight and this resulted in me being approved for Sept 19. I'm getting a revision done from the gastric sleeve. Apparently my sleeve had stretched. I think you'll be fine. Just keep positive!
  8. I have a question. Bypass on 8/29/18 beginning week 4 and haven’t lost any weight in 4 days. Soooo is this the 3 week stall I’ve heard about is anyone else going through this right now from August surgeries? Yikes. I’ve up my water to 75 oz a day. Calories are at 650 70% protein 20 carbs 10 fat

    Any December sleevers here??

April, I just booked my gastric sleeve for December 19. I am going to Blossom Bariatrics in Las Vegas as I am self pay. It will be Happy Holidays with our new sleeves! We'll start the new year creating a new us! --Marie
  10. I'm self-pay, but my surgeon has a 3-month program he makes everyone go through, with 4 nutritionist visits, 4 visits with his PA, at least one visit/assessment with his psychologist, and a bunch of pre-tests (blood, ekg, echocardiogram, upper endoscopy, pulmonary, and if you score high enough on a particular survey, also a sleep study), plus a group class and a second meeting with him, two weeks before surgery. He also wants everyone to lose 10% of their initial weight, but if you have compelling enough reasons, he can sometimes be convinced to set that requirement aside. I feel like a lot of what I know about post-op is from reading books (Colleen Cook's The Success Habits of Weight Loss Surgery Patients 3rd Edition and ... something put out by the American Diabetes Association; Googling, it looks like maybe it was 21 Things You Need to Know About Diabetes and Weight-Loss Surgery?), forums, blogs (I love Banana Tummy and hope she is still doing well!), medical websites, studies available on PubMed, and the handouts my team hasn't yet given me but I found on their website and Google. I have been reading compulsively, and I wonder how well prepared I would be if I hadn't been doing that, even with my surgeon's program. (I mean, I would still know not to gobble Cinnabons. This whole, like, "protein first" thing ... yeah, they made sure I got that.) I wouldn't mind a quiz! But there isn't one. Other than "don't gain weight before the surgery," I guess.
  11. Ok so my RD told me to do it this way: eat the liquid first using the cup as a strainer. Get as much broth out as possible, then "pause a while"--like 10-15 minutes before beginning the solid portion. i don't have any restriction on clear broths when I eat them slowly. It goes strait through. So it isn't creating a slurry. hope that helps!! What do u guys do or what were you told to do?

    Surgery date 10/3!
  13. I am pretty sure that everyone knows at work and other places as folks love to gossip. HR and upper management will know for the Health Insurance paperwork hits their desk first. If you go out of pocket that is different. I have told anyone who asks and half the time they want weight loss tips. I don't post it or brag about the surgery only the results. Many folks before me have tried and failed after the surgery. Once I started drinking the Protein shakes, the whole office started drinking them. I don't lie or conceal as I value my integrity a bit. Some folks know and just want to see if you will be honest. My journey was 19 months (11 months after surgery) so I let folks know it was not a quick cut and the weight fell off. You have to work at it and it takes a lot of commitment. I created a pdf with weight loss tips I have learned from my nutritionist, this forum and my own experiences that I give to the genuinely interested. Weight Loss Tips.pdf

    Exercise after Surgery

Yes, walking starts almost as soon as you wake up from surgery. You'll be on some level of restriction for a while, I couldn't lift more than 10 lbs for 6 weeks. Afterwards I was cleared for certain levels of exercise, and then more shortly thereafter. It's subjective and personal based on a number of factors. But always listen to your doctors!

    October 2018 Sleevers

Hello everyone! My gastric sleeve surgery is scheduled for 10/15 and I can’t wait. It’s been a wild ride! 12 years ago I had the lapband. I was 257 and got down to 167. I had two pregnancies and lost all of the weight right after. About 8 months ago I started having a lot of issues with the band. Long story short I have to have it removed due to erosion and have gotten back up to 225 and feeling like crap! I have lost the greatest tool I had to help me and I can’t wait until this surgery to get me back on track. I start my pre op diet on 10/1 and that is stressing me out a bit but I’ll push through. I am only hoping for no complications and a quick recovery as I have three wild and crazy kids!!! Hoping to connect with some or all of you for support and experiences!

    Frustr8

And another update was coming and here it is. Yesterday was a bad day, One week past surgery. Not OMG WHAT HAVE I DONE? nope none,of that it was WHY BODY,ARE YOU FAILLING ME AGAIN? I had went unexpectedly for a visit with my Surgeon due to the Strange Purple Rain. Sunday afternoon. I was lying on my bed watching, baseball and my belly. Okay strange but my Tummy likes fresh Air!. I noticed a strange purple mottling on my left subcostal area not THAT close to any incision areas. Hmmn I think, might bear some observing! Before that had startled in my own semi- imaginary guide, okay mostly,my journal of clippings, but I do have a dynamite title "DR,RNY'S GUIDE FOR THE APPREHENSIVE". Okay,i know,a little bruising around the trocar wounds/slashes/incisions is okay but this is like an alien has gotten under my skin and is having a party. And weirdly as it advances across my body I have a white circle around each incision. It feels warm, not hot, but distinctly, warm, it is slightly swollen to my eyes, and every stretch Mark on that side looks glowinly. back-lit.. Now in the once upon a time past I carried 3 different 9 pound babies, each laid in my body at a different angle, individuals even prenatally. At its best my stomach looks like to roadmap to Indianapolis with all the county roads marked. And this is not,one of TumTum's happiest day. Do I call my surgeon, would he want to be disturbed on Sunday for what might be only a visual problem? Do I trot myself, out to our local BandAid Station? The self-same community hospital who offered my cousin with gallbladder colic a Pap Test? I won't tell you her retort today, but if you look you'll probably find it on another thread. Besides if you, trusted them THAT much you would not, gone 48 miles for Bariatric Surgery. No super pain, so play the odds nothing is twisted, besides in 70s the amount of friends still with a license and driving diminishes daily. And meanwhile Evil Landlord Jerk Mc Gurk is sitting in his ivory palace 136 miles from here near the Indiana border, worrying that this widow might have 2 pennies to rub together and hasn't remitted them to him. I have rented from his family in this location for 18 years, 10 and a half from him, personally. Never had a written lease, didn't think I needed one. The Old adage of "If something, aint broke, don't try to fix it" Notified him when my finances took a plunge, ok we will work with it, one, month I was able to secure assistance from a social, service agency help make the balance, told me at that time We will help you once but not again. And I told him that. Next month, he demanded full payment, now if I told you the amount you would say, that's not SO Bad, but it is 46% of my Social Security stipend , if I pay my utilities, my insurances and the water and trash, neither of which,is pays it leaves my son and I $22.75 for food a week plus our transportation around town. Pretty dismal! I do have a Workmans Comp settlement looming in the future, oh I won the case, verified by BWC And the Industrial commision of my state and Demand for Settlement was submitted over 90 days ago. The problem : opposing party is an self-insured entity. They are sitting on their fat treasure chests saying Nah Nah we aren't in the mood to do anything . I was theur, loyal minion for over 11 years, even worked when I should have stayed home sick, in fact when we parted company I had 4 broken ribs and was still trying to work. Their feelings of responsibility towards me Pfft. And I feel certain Jerk Mc Gurk thinks I have my money and just don't want to share. So mean Mona his wife plunked a for Sale sign in my front yard. She has decided she wants to sell whether or not I am here, whether,or not I am recovering from Major Surgery, She Wants 💰 MONEY! Last day of August J.McG calked, said he would forgive me if I would remit him $1900 by cashiers check, yet that day he would condesend to forgive my manifest sins against him and his checkbook. OMG I said, I don't even make that much in Social Security monthly! He,then said maybe as a joke Why don't you just sign it over to ME this month? So the 24th of this month I have to go to my county courthouse for an eviction hearing . Lovely isn't it!

    October sleeve

I got mine October 3, 2017 and just reached my goal today. I believe I could have reached it earlier but I wanted to pace myself and build more muscle to replace the fat trying to minimize sagging skin. I still have more fat to lose. I aim to replace that with more chest pectoral muscles. I am hoping to stay around 180-185 when all is done. I was a gym rat but with a new puppy at home I have switched to resistance bands for a different workout. My buddy showed me a pic after 2 months of banding and I thought he was on steroids. With the bands I can spend more time at home working out 45 minutes a day and playing with my new puppy. Will be walking during my lunch break. I consider myself half way there. Now that I reached my goal, I will judge my success in 2-3 years from now. I believe the last leg is of utmost importance to ensure you have changed your lifestyle and stick to a sound maintenance regime. Good Luck in your weight loss journey! My friends have been asking me how to lose weight and I prepared this for them. I let them know about the surgery and my 19 month journey. I let them know I can eat what I want or at least taste it or have a 1/2 cup (knowing that I will have to makeup for it possibly). I also provided a pdf attachment of the same. Weight Loss Tips Below are some tools/suggestions I have for weight loss If you can be “accountable” for what passes your lips you may be on your way to achieving your weight loss goals. The tool I use to help me be accountable is “My Fitness Pal.” Click link here https://www.myfitnesspal.com/ There is an app for it as well. Here you will log your weight, meals, snacks, exercise, water, etc. I use it to plan my meals; it keeps track of just about everything, and it’s free. Once you start logging a complete day it will give you a prediction on how much weight you will lose in a month if you continue eating the same way as that day. I personally try to maintain at least 1200 – 1500 calories a day. I have protein, carb, sugar and fat goals. I log everything from sugarless candy to nuts and you should too. No shame in being honest with yourself. To lose weight you cannot starve yourself; your metabolism will slow down slowing down your success. I am on a low-carb not no-carb diet as you need carbs. You must eat, hydrate and exercise. Exercises are broken down into cardio or muscle building. I started with minimum of 30 minutes of exercise a day and now my daily goal is 45 minutes of cardio and 30 minutes of weight training. Exercising Walking – Is the best exercise aside from running for weight loss. Walking is easier on your joints. Mix it up – Don’t do the same exercises day in and day out. When exercising your legs, you can walk, jump, skip, leap, stretch, squat, and run. Calisthenics – best exercises to combine with walking. There are tons of free YouTube videos to work out to like these: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K727ao6Kjr4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CE4ijWlQ18 I keep sugarless candies nearby to satisfy my sweet tooth. My favs are lifesavers and werther’s hard candy. Water Water Water Water – I cannot say it enough. You need to drink a lot of water. Often times we think we are hungry when we are actually thirsty. Keep a water bottle on hand at all times. I have little goals I set like; I can’t get off the basketball court unless I have made three free throws in a row every day (I made 13 yesterday). Find something you enjoy like swimming or walking a beautiful mountain trail. Find a buddy and hold each other accountable. If you did not make at least a light circle of sweat around your neckline, you did not push yourself hard enough. Vitamins – Is a must. When you start cutting calories, you may not get all the nourishment you need to lose weight. Take good quality vitamins. I take a multi-vitamin, also biotin, B complex and baby aspirin. Clean out the garage, clean something and log it in as exercise. Do not get complacent and move, move, move! I have cheat days once in a while where I have lifted my boundaries but always, always get back on the horse and charge forward Weight Loss Tips.pdf

    Home stretch

My sleeve was on 9/10. Right now I’m having serious buyers remorse. At this point it feels like I’ll never feel halfway normal again. Has anyone else experienced a wierd almost ringing in their ears and a heightened sense of hearing? Like everything is extra loud.
  20. MMM ... I just threw out 19 bags of clothing between 4XL and 9XL. Very pleasing feeling. This comes on top of the 22 pairs of dress trousers and casual slacks I sent to charity earlier on in 2018. I also parted with some very over-sized tailored shirts from 2009-2016 purchases.

  22. Sorry to hear that. I actually had my surgery the same day as you! I had some pains in my foot about 10 days out of surgery, but I've been diagnosed with gout, so I was able to take meds to relieve the pain within a day. Apparently flareups are normal. It may be worth getting a referral to a rheumatologist if things get worse.

Post op pain - be honest

i have a high tolerance for pain so I was up and walking around after surgery, I'm extremely independent and could of done it alone ( my m0m was here and didn't need her) I just iced the incisions when they were uncomfortable. I pretty much slept a lot and watched movies. oh and walking 10 mins 3 x a day

Post op pain - be honest

I did great!! I was walking around 5 hours after surgery. I was walking on my own. It’s not bad at all. I just suffered horrible diarrhea, that is what made it so terrible. I went to a meeting for work 4 days after my surgery! I was back at work full time 10 days after surgery.
