    One day left!

All those things are exactly what you need... I am 4 days post op now... and the other thing I would mention is MOVE AROUND! This has helped me so much I think... dont over do it if you feel "pain" stop but just getting up and walking around the house will help work out the soreness and GAS! lol I have two young ones too and they are at my moms for a week because they are really too young to understand... Good luck to you and God bless!
  5. When your body experiences a great weightloss and you have done everything right...it needs time to find an equilibrium. Once it finds it...weightloss resumes. There is NO WAY you can consume 800-1200 cals a day...and not lose weight. If you hit a stall...just carry on and consider it Christmas when the drop comes and weight starts falling off again.

    Dieting While Diabetic

X-man I had the sleeve on July 16. I've had no pain, no nausea from the surgery. I'm 69 and have diabetes. I was on insulin at 180units/day. I had 1 unit of insulin while I was in the hospital. I have not had ANY insulin since. I still take metformin same as before. The day I came home I called my endocrinologist to update him. That was Tuesday 7/17. On Friday I saw my primary and again the next week. My primary is keeping me under close supervision because they expect I will be needing meds reduced. Getting the sleeve is the best thing I could possibly due to improve my health. The worst thing about the process for me was having to grind up pills. Yuck! I bought a bottle of pill glide from pharmacy. It help a little. What really helped was taking the powdered pills in SF pudding. I'm down 75 pounds from my highest weight. While in surgery I had so much IV fluid that I gained 6# and kept that 6# for about 2 weeks. I was eating/drinking about 400 calories/day! That 6# was really getting under my skin! It finally left. Then I started dropping at least 1# a day. My friends tell me that they never saw me smile so much. And they keep telling me that. I have a new lease on life..
  7. most normal WLS patients lose 15-25 lbs the first month, so yes, 10 lbs in the first three weeks is fine. Of course, there are outliers on either side of that range, but just from my own observation from hanging around these another boards for the last 5-7 years, that seems to be a pretty normal range. I think people sometimes have a skewed perception because of shows like "My 600 lb Life", but you have to keep in mind that those folks start out WAY heavier than most of us do. as long as your weight is gradually trending down, you're good. I lost 16 lbs during the first month (and I started out more than 100 lbs more than you, and I lost all of my excess weight - so you're fine!
  8. 10lbs is pretty common as Catwoman7 said. I lost about 13lbs in the first three weeks (but I wouldn’t have been hitting 400 calories a day - not hungry & struggled to eat much that first month or so). I slowed after that first month. Some weeks you may lose a little more, others less. Then there’ll be weeks you don’t lose at all. It’s all part of the process. Good luck on your journey.

    A big day for me

Only 4 more days to go I get banded on June 2nd I did all the pre-op stuff yesterday with no hic-ups yet. I'm a self payer so they sat me down and made me write the checks. They all came out to about $17K. I'm into my second week of opti-fast and I am doing OK now. Last week sucked:angry:. I can honestly say that I have not cheated on the opti-fast. I feel good about that and the hunger pains have gone away. I have a nasty taste in my mouth so I'm chewing alot of gum. I guess gum is not a good idea after the band. I have dropped about 18 lbs since Sunday the 18th. I'm getting anxious about Monday. Ok moving on I sure do appreciate this site

    A big day for me

Hi there! Just wanted to let you know that I am on that bus too! Once you get past the first three days you'll be fine. I have been on my pre-op diet for a week and a half now and am to the point where I am ok with it now. Losing 10 lbs has helped me keep on track too! Just take it one day at a time and try not to watch the food network all night like I was doing, lol Its just torture!!!

    Day 5 Post op-Stomach Gurgling

I'm one week post-op, and I'm hearing the same thing. I just figured it was the liquid trickling through the band into the lower half of my stomach. I've never heard so many bowel sounds without a stethoscope! LOL

    Landband twist?

My port had flipped some time after my surgery and when I went in for my first fill my Dr couldn't put saline in as the correct side was facing down. I had to have another surgery to correct it. It has been almost three weeks and am looking forward to my next fill. My Dr. Said it was the first time he had seen that. I think it happened when I was walking my dog on leash and she took off after something- pulling me along. My Dr thought it could have been caused from working out. Good luck to you! The port surgery was much easier!
  13. How'd you do it so fast? I must be doing something wrong!! You look absolutely WONDERFUL...You should be so proud. I had my surgery 58 weeks ago -- was 289 and am only down 55lbs today...233. Please share all and any information you can---You are GREAT!!!

Is There Such a Thing as a “Stall?”

Science of food and nutrition is sketchy at best. every year they re-define what was previously 'obvious' knowledge- saturated/unsaturated fats and cholesterol for example. Remember the low fat diet of the early 90s? Phen-phen (I think?) oh and calories in = calories out. I call total BS on that one. Not all calories are created equal. So this stall notion.. Who knows... No one has it figured out yet.

    4 days post op

Thank you! I got discouraged because I've been reading others' surgery stories and all the ones I've read so far began losing weight the week of surgery.
  16. if you're sure you're eating slowly enough and this keeps up, call your surgeon again. It doesn't say when you had surgery, but strictures are not uncommon when you're 1-3 months post-op (they're pretty rare after the three month mark).
  17. I record everything I eat, to the best I can, so when I experience a stall I go over what I am eating, I just don't see how eating 1000 calories and exercising can cause weight loss to stop. Therefore I believe in stalls. Luckily for me I have only experienced a few, I think it is the body holding on to water weight or bloat, in an attempt to stop what it perceives as a major attack on its energy stores.
  18. first off i would like to say I LOVE THIS SITE AND ALL THE PEOPLE ON IT!!!! you are all amazing! I can sit here for hours reading the information and learn something new every thread. 19. First did you have a band, a sleeve, or RNY? Often time the sleeve stretched out to much or it could be your body has set itself into survival mode because it is not getting enough food/ nutrients. It sounds like your body needs a kick start. I agree go back to drinking 8 oz protein shakes for a week, but I Would only do 2 shakes and for your third meal I Would consume 2oz of tuna, chicken, or 2 hard boiled eggs no yolk and make sure you are taking your vitamins and see if it jump starts you. If not I Would contact your surgeons office.

    Argh...my surgery got pushed back!!!

I feel sympathy for the doctor, but I know that this is disappointing for you. We'll be here to cheer you on through two more weeks of Atkins...and will throw an even bigger cheer your way when you finally get to bandland. Hang in there sweetie!
  21. Hi! I feel ya i am either 8-10 weeks we have to do an us to find out where.. i had two periods in a 3 week frame:) And all i do is eat now, but the nausea KILLS ME. AND the vitamins, teh dr finally took me off my prenatal because of the band. How are you doing? If you wanna talk my email is ndeg21@yahoo.com, its kinda nice finding a lap band person with the same due date month as me. I feel so alone cause all my pregnant friends have no idea im banded first off and dont get why my pregnancy is so different food wise.
  22. I am 9 weeks today and having the same issue. Not only am I eating almost constantly in order to avoid the nausea but I am grossed out by almost everything healthy! This is my second pregnancy and with my daughter I ate a lot but I ate salad, veggies, etc. I only gained 15 pounds that entire pregnancy. This one has been completely different all I want is junk food and I want it CONSTANTLY. LOL!! I have been able to tolerate fruits and crackers so I've been buying whole wheat, light crackers. I guess the trick is to find something (anything) that you can eat a lot of and that's not too unhealthy. Light cottage cheese and apple sauce have helped me too but you really need to see what works for YOU. My morning Protein drink has been lasting at least 3 hours. Maybe you could try it, its Protein powder (vanilla or carnation vanilla works too), some Peanut Butter, half a banana, low fat milk and some ice. This morning it lasted about 4 hours which was a big help. As far as the unfill, I can't help you there. I had a complete unfill at 6 weeks because as soon as I got pregnant I became unbearably tight and could barely drink Water. I went to my surgeon for them to take some out and turns out it was their policy that for pregnancy they take ALL of it. It has helped me feel a lot better though so I can't complain. My big fear is gaining a ton of weight with this pregnancy!! I hope that once we are past the 1st trimester this crazy nausea will pass and we will be able to eat more like normal people.
  23. I am a little over 8 weeks pregnant and I am eating ALL the time. I mean - every hour or 1 1/2 or so. If I am not eating I am drinking - it is so frustrating. If I don't eat, I will get really nausea and lightheaded (it feels like an out of body experience). I have tried a bunch of different things, such as protein drinks or milk as 'snacks' but it only last about 15-20 min. Then I have to eat again. Eating has become such a chore - I have also noticed that I am able to eat A LOT more. I am wondering if anyone else has gone thru this and what did they do? Should I have a complete unfill or what? I was super heavy with my first child (I was high risk because of my weight) and gained a lot of weight with her as well and I am so scared this time. Help! I need some advice.

    Ohh the confusion... :/

Hi Chloe! I am 23 and JUST banded last week. If you need anyone to talk about the good the bad and the ugly I am here. I wish I would have looked into this more before making my decision. Best thing is to ask ENDLESS questions. Its a lot of mental preparation. Feel free to message me whenever!
  25. I'm a week post op, and I am seriously questioning my decision. I am so miserable! I know it's still early and I'm healing, but the pain is horrible. I have sharp pains under my left rib cage and shoulder and a deep pain in the diaphragm area that doesn't seem to go away! I know it's gas and healing, but it's hard to see past it at this point. I am trying to keep up on the liquids, but it's hard to get them down . I am still on liquids and the soups and proteins. I have no idea what I'm eating calorie wise, creamy tomato or butternut squash soups and chicken broth. I finally had bm today after 2 doses if milk of mag, and I almost couldn't choke it down forgive the rant, and I'm sure this is all normal, but I am having a hard time. I tried to take only Tylenol today, but I had to take the liquid Vicodin tonight as it just hurt too bad. I am sure a week from now I'll look back and it will be just a memory. My first post op appt is tomorrow so I'll relay all this to my doc. Just hanging on!
