    Need advice:

I had the bypass Feb 2014. I decided to have it because of the post i read with the revisions. I figured if i was going to put my body through a surgery i wanted to go for the big one and only have one surgery.

    VSG and a Hernia Repair

I just had my lapband to sleeve revision on Monday. When I had my lapband, the Dr discovered a hiatal hernia & repaired it. Never had GERD prior to that so it was a surprise. I did start taking Omeprazole daily about 2 years in to my lapband. With my revision, he repaired the hernia again & I'm starting to take Pepcid. Based on my previous experience, all should heal fine. Driving - I've always been told that as long as you are off your pain meds & you can slam on your brakes with no problem - you should be OK. Before, I've practiced slamming on the brakes which car isn't running & parked. I plan to do the same thing this weekend as I need to drive next week. Good Luck!

    Protein

I'm currently on day 4 after revision surgery. The "trick" I've currently hit on is adding Crystal Light to Isopure. Improves the taste significantly!! This is one of the only ways I know to get 40g in at this point. I also just ordered some GENEPRO Protein powder based on what everyone is saying. It is very hard for me to get the liquids & protein in - but I'm determined.

    Complicated Surgery

What is that procedure? Were you originally going in for a band to sleeve revision?
  6. Jb1176- I have surgery the 16 th too! I had similar thoughts until I found this site as well. I know I can do this, I just a a little support to tell me when to stop eating! I think this will be great for me. I work in healthcare and see soooo many sleeve and bypass patients that have terrible complications and/or gain the wt right back. I rarely see band patients and if I do, they admit they never followed the plan or used the band as a tool. Several had revisions to sleeves/bypass but the same regaining of the wt. This makes ME and only me accountable if it works or not. We have some April band buddies on the pre-op thread....come join us

  8. Thank you so much for your post! Honestly it was wonderful and definitely appreciated. I'm a newcomer and I don't know if anyone else can relate to this but I actually prefer the more current posts to the older post for this reason: weight loss surgery is scientific and part of the medical world which means opinions and changes are constantly being made. Something that might have been totally acceptable 2-3 years ago might be now changed and revised for what is now currently needed and necessary. I'm a nurse and I can say that in the last 8 years I have worked in a hospital, so much has changed in practice and how patients are taking care of. I would also assume that WLS would fall under that same category. While I appreciate the fact that some of the same issues years ago people were facing are the same as today, the method of dealing with and helping with those issues could have easily changed. I'm more interested in the current methods and practices not because the old posts won't help, but because I want to know what people are doing right now to help fix the problems. So I do appreciate the new threads and post because it helps give me current information with people who are active and it makes me feel happier to know they are right there with me. Again thank you for the post, made me happy to read it

Band to sleeve in one procedure

I had band to sleeve revision on Monday (4/6). All went well - repaired hiatal hernia & had quite a bit of scar tissue. With band but Dr was able to complete all in one procedure. Given that I'm about 48 hours of surgery, I'm doing really well. My insurance covered the revision-Aetna.
  10. Hi all! I'm going in on the 4/9 to set my date for revision to RNY. There may not be a surgery, after all this work, if I can't resolve the financial issues around it. Protein. How many tubs will I need to buy in the medium run? And what could be the cost. I'm thinking powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury (get my samples tomorrow). The pre-op Vitamins, Calcium Citrate and chewable multi are expensive when added to the script list I'm on already. WHAT FINANCIAL OBLIGATION TO pills AND PROTEIN AM I LOOKING AT??!! I'm frightened that I'll be putting the surgery off forever, not knowing my RNY related budget. Can you help me? I'm feeling very frightened and doomed, and I don't want to feel this way if I don't need to. Just need to realistically know the budget.
  11. I am 64 years old and started my weight loss journey over 10 years ago, when my husband was still alive (he will dead 10 years this fall). I started with the pre-op testing, etc.. but as his health failed I couldn't take part in the demanding schedule so I gave it up. Two years after he died (2007) I started the process again, but this time at a local hospital with a local surgeon because I would have to do all the driving to all the appointments and I didn't want to drive into the city at the university hospital. MISTAKE NUMBER ONE. This surgeon and his partner were new to bariatric surgery. They were general surgeons who took over the practice of a retiring surgeon. My theory is that they were going to use up the existing inventory first, which is why he put in an outdated 4cc band. MISTAKE NUMBER TWO.* I was only his 23rd patient and while his surgical skills were okay, his knowledge about the complexities of obesity as a disease were nil. MISTAKE NUMBER THREE.* I had already lost 60 pounds on my own prior to and right after surgery - 6 months of dieting and 2 weeks pre and 2 weeks post surgery - liquids only. But still he wanted me to lose 10-15 pounds in 3 weeks with no fill. MISTAKE NUMBER FOUR.* When I didn't - I got the "Come to Jesus talk". He had told me I had the 10cc band. So, when he filled me with 3cc I couldn't understand why I was having so many problems. I couldn't keep anything down. He was blaming me, telling me to do this, not do that, blah, blah, blah. I was thinking - Why would 3cc cause so many problems in a 10cc band? So he ordered an upper GI which showed not much was going through. When he got the results of the upper GI- THAT GOT HIS ATTENTION!!!! He called me in immediately and removed 1.5 cc. MISTAKE NUMBER FIVE.* It was then that I asked for all my test results and operative report that I had sent to another doctor for a second opinion. He was the one who told me I had a 4cc band, it had slightly slipped and my weight loss in 6 months was what is expected in a year. First time I heard anything positive from a doctor. However, 9 month later I had a horrible stuck episode that took me to the ER where all the fill was removed. Oh, and right after surgery I had terrible left shoulder pain that he knew NOTHING about. MISTAKE NUMBER 6*. When I found this forum - It was just the lap band forum then - THEY HAD WHOLE THREADS DEVOTED TO LEFT SHOULDER PAIN!!!! Now to the part about the band itself: I lost 75 pounds but only 15 from the band. It never did one thing it was promoted as doing. It didn't decrease hunger, it didn't provide satiety, it didn't improve any of my medical conditions. It just made it difficult to eat - pain and pressure. So, it was the worst of both worlds. Couldn't eat but still felt hungry - like my bottom stomach was saying "hey, feed me- I'm still hungry" but I couldn't. I did not fail the band, I was a very compliant patient. The band failed me. I have been over in the sleeve forum - was contemplating getting a revision but decided it wasn't for me. I don't want to be the one who has daily diarrhea 2 years out and still can't drink plain Water, or who had pain for 2 hours from a crouton. Or has increased GERD, can't take NSAIDs for life (I have arthritis) and a whole host of other reasons, not the least of which the surgeon said I could lose "as much as 45 pounds". All that for MAYBE 45 pounds?? No thanks, I am in onderland, a place many on these boards Celebrate after surgery. So, I am going to live with this thing unless it causes a complication that requires removal. So, that's my story, sorry it was so long. Hope everyone else is doing well. *CAN BE INTERCHANGED WITH "RED FLAG NUMBER TWO, ETC.."

    Officially Scared To Death !

Why do you think you won't be able to eat certain foods? I'd say most people can eat the same foods they could before surgery. It's all about choice and moderation. No need to food funeral it. Best of luck on your revision!
  13. Also, just FYI, when I consulted with Dr. Ortiz he wanted to plicate my existing sleeve and not actually revise the sleeve so be aware of what each surgeons idea of "revision" is.

How was your 5:2 day today?

Hi ladies! Checking in - I think it took me about 20 minutes to find the thread! Why don't we get notifications any longer I wonder - is that some new 'premium feature'? I am up as well and its all in my lower tummy, thighs and rump - we went to whistler and it was agony on the knees. There was little snow so those bunny slopes where at the top of the mountain, which is just a bit steeper than the true baby slopes. Lets just say I didn't do too much skiing. Then I got some gastro-intestinal bug that had me vomiting and feverish for 3 days (isn't it sick when we are happy that we cant keep anything down lol). We are going to Mexico in a couple of months and I am dreading it a bit - its so funny how perception influences our feelings - when I was on the way down, this weight had me elated - now that it is a bit higher than that lowest low - I think myself a miserable failure. Ah well - need to take the advice from my own signature Hope you are all well - I too though I need a revision - feel like my sleeve is broken lol.

Chrissy I am right there with you. I am scheduled for a band revision in June as well. Good luck and Band007 let us know how it goes. I am sure it will go well.

Band to sleeve in one procedure

I was banded in 2011 with a revision in 2013. I needed another revision in 2015 and that was when my surgeon suggested the sleeve. I was sleeved February 11 and have lost more weight with the sleeve and a lot faster. This, so far, has been so much better than the band. Good luck!

Is it really happening this time?

Hi Boubette! I am so sorry I just now saw your question. I received my original surgery date just before my all day session. I was worried they weren't moving fast enough to get surgery done last year (and they weren't, lol!) so I hounded them incessantly until they told me when it would be. The actual gastric bypass surgery was scheduled at the beginning of March during a followup visit for my band removal. I know that every doctor is different, though. Are you doing a revision from band to bypass, too?
  18. Had a gastric bypass revision on mar. 18. I was 332 at my pre-op office visit, 313 on surgery day. I am down to 299. i have my first post -op visit tomorrow. I am in an amazingly good mood. I think it is from the healthier eating and Vitamins. I just hope I lost enough in the 3 weeks since the surgery. I am disabled and cannot move much. I did put in a flower garden with lots of help from my grandson. I can mostly work on the planters, but I think it will be fun to watch the flowers grow while I shrink. The dreaded huge double chin shrank a little and I saw it in a picture taken yesterday! It is still there, but much smaller.
  19. I'm revising from sleeve to MGB with Dr. Rodriguez on 4/23, I never even considered a malabsorption procedure until Dr. Rod recommended it but I now after obsessive research, I feel 100% confident in my decision.

I suggested an injection, but he said results were inconsistent. I wish the drain had worked, but they couldn't find a large enough pocket to insert the drain. He said if this is still present in September then he would bring me in and remove the slickened secreting lining of my abdomen al cavity and rough up the layer underneath of it, so it would then attach better to heal. Then he would do the revision at the same time. Mine is not encapsulated. When are you planning your revisions?

    What would you do ?

I have a close friend who felt like she did not have enough restriction and who was always hungry. She actually works for the bariatric surgery center. There are two surgeons in the practice. She had the surgeon who didn't do her surgery order a scan to check her stomach size. That surgeon said her stomach was too big and it looked like the other surgeon hadn't taken enough off. He told her it looked almost normal. He did a sleeve revision on her and she recovered quickly and is now at her goal weight and has been for almost two years. So I think it can be safely revised, but it is a personal decision.
  22. Hi, I have my appointment to see the surgeon's LPN, or maybe even my Doc as well, IDK, on 4/9. I've given them all the necessary paperwork, test results, etc. They know me from my Banding in 07. Here's the thing. As educated as I am, I am feeling scared to death! I don't know what this appointment is for. I'm freaking out about having someone go in and tear my insides apart. I'm scared I'm not prepared. It's just such a major event! Doc wanted me to lose weight before surgery, I lost 33. I am for the most part, chair bound, except when I go to my desk job. (I use a Rollator to help me walk, and hold my oxygen.) How long will I be out of work? Oh this all is driving me crazy! Is this normal?
  23. I also need my gallbladder out and want the revision at the same time.I hope it can be done.Has anyone had all this surgery done in one surgery? If so how was the recovery for you?

    Need advice

I go to Dr. Fiallo in Springfield. He's fantastic!! He did my band in 2008 and my revision to sleeve in February. My surgery was done at Baystate but he does them at Mercy too. When I'm having trouble with the bone spur in my foot, I sometimes have to do the recumbent bike in the gym. Can you do that? That's the bike that you sit down on, you rest your back on the seat
  25. @Band07. Why are you revising, if I may ask?
