  1. What do you eat that you eat only protein? Wow - I am impressed that you can drink 100 ounces of Water. I don't come close to that. You eat only protein... that must be very challenging. What are your typical lunch and dinners like? I really, really force the fluids. It helps that my two toddlers have me up every day at 6AM, so I get a very early start. My daily menu is extremely boring! By saying, "I only eat protein," what I mean is, I have not incorporated in any type of vegetables or fruit, or even healthy grains of any kind, yet. I'm 10 weeks out and have no food texture restrictions now, but here's how a day typically looks Breakfast - egg whites with shredded low fat cheese, or a Dannon Light and Fit Greek yogurt or cottage cheese (or any combination of those things, depending on how hungry I am/time of month.) Mid-morning snack - Babybel Mozzarella mini cheese (or two) Lunch - any of these things: steamed shrimp, StarKist tuna pouch, grilled chicken, grilled salmon Mid-day snack (if I need one) - another Greek yogurt or cottage cheese dinner - usually fish/seafood or chicken again, similar to lunch. Lump crab meat, shrimp, salmon, tuna ... I'm a creature of habit, so eating the same things for an extended period of time does not bother me. I know at some point it will, but for now, that's how I'm eating. I'm ever conscious that we have a honeymoon phase, and I'm taking full advantage of it. Right now, I am eating 90-100g of protein every day. Again, something I know I won't sustain forever. But, honeymoon phase.

    5 month post op diet

Good morning! My surgery date was 1-12-2015. I eat around 550-750 calories a day. I make a point to try and eat every 3 hours. My pouch is picky, so there are a few staples that I have. I usually make a batch of chili or buffalo chicken in the crock pot. Then I portion it into 1.5 oz containers and freeze it. The buffalo chicken I usually it with a small salad. I also eat the Morningstar farms spicy bean burgers. I can't say that I love them, but I can tolerate it. I can't eat a full bean burger. I can do about 3/4. Sadly, I am still supplementing most of my Protein with shakes. Here's a sample menu of what my day looks like: 7 am: lite and fit vanilla yogurt flavored with sugar free raspberry syrup 10 am: 100 calorie bag of roasted edamane (from sprouts) 12:30 buffalo chicken with salad 1:30 1/2 bottle of protein h2o Water 3:00 premier Protein shake 5:30 veggie burger patty with slice of cheese on it 8:00 100 calorie popcorn (bad habit I need to stop) or 1/2 peeled apple I have asked my nutritionist about how many calories I should be consuming and she tells me not to worry about that. She wants me to focus on getting 60-70 grams of protein daily. I hope I was able to help you. Good luck on your journey!

    Could use some ideas

So sorry you are in so much pain! I can't even begin to imagine what you are going through. Not sure if this would work or not, but what about making your own Protein popsicles with greek yogurt and some Protein powder or the pudding and protein powder? I haven't tried these yet but bought my own popsicle molds in anticipation of doing so. I guess that's not savory though...

    Protein?

When I was on full liquids I was allowed cottage cheese in addition to greek yogurt. I also ate a lot of protein soup.

    Dizzy

I am a week post op and have found when I feel weak I need to drink water! Or eating Greek yogurt and chicken noodle soup (strain the pieces) will help too!

    Liquid Diet Day #1

Amylou, We're on the same schedule! I started my 10-day pre-op liquid diet yesterday, too! I had a hard day today . . . headache all day long, semi-nauseous, and HUNGRY. However, I am following the diet to the letter and know I will make it. The key for me was to find Protein shakes that I liked. I bought Optimum Nutrition 100% whey Gold Standard powder in Extreme Milk chocolate, and also in vanilla. I've mixed it into Cream of Rice, Soup, and have had some pretty tasty and filling smoothies (with Greek yogurt). Hang in there -- it's gotta get easier!
  8. Scrambled eggs, avocados, deli meats, white fish, egg drop soup, greek yogurt.

Will we have to low carb for ever?

I would say 60 grams is a bare minimum for Protein. It seems like a lot of surgeons/nutritionists recommend about 65. My nutritionist wanted me to work my way up to 100 as soon as I could. I would say I got there around the 3 month mark and have been able to manage it pretty easily most days since then. As for carbs, I don't actually count carbs. I just know I don't get many because I work so hard to get my protein in. There are carbs in my Protein Bars, but they are offset by "fiber" and only have a total of 3 net carbs each. In my lunches and dinners, my only carbs usually come from sauce. I do usually have one greek yogurt a day, which has about 9 grams of carbs on its own, plus I add half an ounce of either Kashi Go Lean Cereal or some granola to that on my cardio days, which is about another 9 grams for a total of 18 grams. So my best guess is that in a day I get about 45 grams of net carbs?

    Can't get enough fluids

My doc told me g2 I have been sipping on it for 2 weeks now it helps but my problem is I get full so quickly I take 3/4 sips n I'm done I was excited I had frozen yogurt yesterday but 2/3 spoon fulls n I cudnt handle it so I gave it away. But I'm going to get some unflavored protein so I can mix it with something so it won't be this bad
  11. When I had my surgery last week my husband was unable to be by my side because of his 12 hour graveyard work plus it would of taken him an additional hour to get to the hospital. So my mom stepped up by going to my postop lifestyle class the day before surgery and my step dad would also be there to being me to and from the hospital. Well, the morning of my class I finally told my mom how much I weighed and she laughed at me, which naturally hurt my feelings and made me realize bringing her there was a big mistake. Then the day my patent came to pick me up my parents forgot to pick me up! We agreed to leave at noon and my mom texted me that they'd be there before twelve but when I asked how the traffic was at 1145 she said they were still at home!!! I had gotten my last dose of pain meds injected into my iv since I told the nurses that I'd be checking out at twelve but by the time my parents got to the hospital the pain meds wore off... I was in pain getting in and out of their big ass car. My step dad knew I was upset and started to make some bullshit story up of.. "you were too drugged up last night!! We couldn't understand you!!" ... Um no... I told mom this morning to pick me up at noon. He was making things so bad the moment I came home by saying my husband should of taken me to and from the hospital and this was not any of his responsibility. (Both my patents are retired and live WITH ME AND MY HUSBAND) So last night (5 days post op) I went for a walk at the local marina around 830 cause it was cooler (92) but when I got home I was out of breath. So this morning I thought I'd take it slower by walking a lap around the mall but came home exhausted yet again! My dad tells me to suck it up .. and he doesn't understand why I'd be so out of breath. I told him he wouldn't understand and that caused him to snap at me saying that he would because he had a valve transplant a few years ago (but I was always there to support him during his recovery) . I told him I just had half of a major organ removed and he started to get all huffy and puffy. Since this morning my husband removed my nonfat yogurt and sugar free pudding from the kitchen refrigerator and placed it in our bedroom fridge so that I wouldn't have to run into my dad again. I'm so exhausted of all this and I want to go back to work but I know that's not feasible since work is pretty demanding. Guess I'll be in my room for the next three weeks. I can't believe I'm 28 years old and crying over this shit.
  12. In the mushies phase, you are still pretty limited. Cottage cheese, string cheese, and greek yogurts were my go-tos. Once you are onto solids, you'll have many more options. I don't like jerky, but I do like "beef" sticks. I put beef in quotations there, because I rarely get ones made with actual beef. I get turkey and other more exotic meats (buffalo, karibu, alligator) when I can find them at places like Bass Pro Shop. I also snack on lightly salted peanuts (not a fan of nuts in general, but I like peanuts). I still rely pretty heavily on greek yogurt, 9 months out. I also still do string cheese sometimes.

Will we have to low carb for ever?

Oh yeah. I forgot to mention that I always have Kashi Cereal or granola with my greek yogurt on days I do cardio.

I know you are tired of chicken soup but you might want to get some ProtiDiet Soups. I lived on the tomato basil and creamy chicken during my liquid phase. Can you do cottage cheese and yogurt? You can make greek yogurt savory. Best of luck. I hope your recovery goes well.

Will we have to low carb for ever?

Yes, but.....................I do eat carbs. but they are non-starchy carbs from non-starchy veggies and one serving of non-starchy fruit like berries. One slice of wheat bread is allowed on my plan, but at Breakfast, not dinner. My plan allows for about 150 carbs, but some of that is from two servings of milk or Greek Yogurt. I find that if I go over fifty carbs, I stall. Still, at 50 carbs, I can eat all of the green veggies and tomatoes I can stand. If I get the mindless nibbles, I will open a can of green Beans and pour them into a bowl. They do a lot less damage than chips. i take thick slices of cucumber and use them to hold bites of tuna salad instaed of using crackers. I have made adjustments, but it's not killing me. As a matter of fact, ditching starchy carbs has made me feel a lot better. So, my taste buds don't like it, Miss Tummy is the boss of me, now The hardest thing for me to give up is bananas, so I will cut them in thirds and have that 1/3 with breakfast, but not at bedtime. I don't like to sleep on carbs.

    Measuring

Should I be measuring intake during full fluid stage? I can "drink" a whole can of Campbell low fat soup made with water and blended in magic bullet. It does take me about 20 minutes to drink it all, but get worried when people say they can only take in half a cup. Should limit my soups and yogurts?
  18. Meat just isn't really agreeing with me and right now I'm eating mostly beans, cheese, Greek yogurt. Any vegetarians that can give me an idea of how they've been doing since surgery. I'm 2 months post-op.
  19. I'll find out more tomorrow when Amazon's drone delivers it, but here is the most interesting thing I could find on the product on the web...It arrived last week, and it is flavorless. Mixes well with yogurt, half a scoop dissolves nicely in my coffee. Finally able to boost my protein levels to where they need to be. My hair is not falling out like it was. So I'm sticking with this stuff. I was poking around on the web about this and found this on one of the body building boards: LARGEbagFrontWEB.jpgHey there guys. I am the Doctor/Genetic Bio-Scientist that invented GENEPRO and am the owner of Musclegen Research. Serving size is 1 Tablespoon = 30g of Protein.. Here is a little about the product and the difference between Genepro and any other protein on the market. We are working with bodybuilding.com to carry Genepro as well as out other products.. What makes Genepro so unique is that we are able to reduce the protein molecule to half the size of normal protein through a process called Electrophoresis. This is a reverse electrical polarity method of extracting pure protein. In essence we take protein molecules that, for reference, are the size of a baseball. We push these baseball sized protein molecules through a Polyacrylamide gel (the gel stays below 87 degrees F) and introduce electricity through the gel. This process removes hydrogen ions, allergens and any fillers or binders so we are able to then bind the protein with a strand of six amino acids called a Hexapeptide which stabilizes the molecular structure. This hexapeptide increases shelf life of the protein as well as balancing the bitter taste that is present with the protein after electrophoresis and actually gives the protein a slightly sweet undertone. The protein is pushed through a filtration system and into a centrifuge which results in a pure protein molecule that is now the size of a golf ball (for reference). You may not be able to fit 30 baseballs into a shoe box but you can fit 30 golf balls. Thus giving us the ability to get 30grams of protein in a 1TBS serving size. This process also changes the caloritic count as well to 3.2 calories per gram of protein. The process as well at the hexapeptide are patent pending and have never been used before in nutrition (it's a genetic process that is used primarily in forensic science). The other interesting fact is that most protein supplements digest in the lower GI and whey is absorbed at only 31% so if you're "taking" 30g of whey, your body is only taking in 9g. Genepro is digested in the upper GI which eliminates gluten, lactose and bowel sensitivity and absorbs at a rate of 94% which makes it 3 times more effective than any other protein on the planet (medical or open market). Flavorless and odorless and can be mixed instantly in any food or beverage (hot or cold) without changing the taste or consistency. Truly the most complex and advanced protein on the planet. Each 1pound container comes with 3 empty, re-useable travel pouches that make it super convenient to use anytime, anywhere and in anything.

3 wks post op - very low energy

I'm two weeks out from my conversion and I have also had very low energy. Yesterday I had almost 90 grams of protein and I can feel a huge difference today. I'm having two protein shakes plus two Greek yogurts. Tomorrow I get to add in more soft food like cottage cheese and applesauce so I'm hoping that'll help too!

    Hello newbie here

What's your MOTIVATION? Is it for your children.. Ur spouse why did u choose this.. Ur your only competition, you know yourself better than anyone else stop cheating on yourself and choose to treat yourself GREAT. Straight up. Real talk that stinkin thinkin is going to put u back to the wt you were before u got the surgery. stick to the instructions or fail. I FAILED. I chose easy foods anything that would go down. The fills got expensive and even then never had a perfect fill. I gained my wt back and more. I chose to have the lap band because I became all kinds of sick w diabetes and my dad had just passed away from diabetes. Now I'm getting a revision because i couldn't practice the instructions so I said so what just gonna slam a yogurt then a strawberry malt anything that would go down. U better not start cheating not even a little.. This first year u will need to learn self control better now than when u gain all ur wt back and more. So I'm gonna get this sleeve now and it will force me to only eat those portions. I'm just be real I was banded 4 years ago I pray y'all make the right choice to treat yourself to healthy instruction just take it one day at a time but don't ever cheat yourself
