I like it, I think it fits nicely. Another 5-10 lbs and you’ll be tripping over it, lol

    Non Scale Victories

I posted this on the summer post-op thread too so I’m sorry for double posting, but what do you all think about this dress for work tomorrow? Yea or wait 5-10+ pounds or just nay in general? Trying to decide/work up courage...
  3. I’m trying to get up the courage to wear this dress to work tomorrow. It’s definitely not my usual style bc usually I hide in basics, but I bought this from Amazon for like $19 and I really like it but feel self-conscious and unsure... Edited to add a pic from 1 week post op for comparison...though the clothing and stance is really not apples to apples! Yea or nay?

    September bypass buddies??

It took me a long time to get here and not just on this web site. My sister had the Ru N Y when it first came out and had so many problems that they had to redo it 3 times, and both of my parents died when they were only 55 years old. I am 54 now and I want to live to be older then they were. I am scheduled for surgery on the 26th and I have lost 10 pounds on the liquid diet so far. What fun is it My husband worries about eating in front of me every time he eats. I keep telling him not to worry, I am not hungry. My biggest worry right now is the arthritis in my left knee which makes it so much fun to jump up and down every time I have to go to the bathroom so I have set a timer. I go to the bathroom every 90 minutes whether I need to or not. I had to start my FMLA early because I work in a Call Center and I do not have the luxury of being able to go to the bathroom whenever I need. My job has been really supportive and so has my family.
  8. Thank you PhotoGirl, Day🔪 10 and I thought I was being a wuss!
  9. well it's been 10 days now. I am bottom line , glad for it, until yesterday and today if was progressing WONDERFULLY. Then last, night Precious Pouch rebelled against what I tried to feed her and today has been a little better, but was still upchucking at lunch time. Not made at the surgery as much as worrying. I gave my surgeon faulty, raw, material to work with, but it has been 6 hours and maybe I am returning the corner. Been sipping liquids and they are staying down. Maybe,Frustr8,is back,of the road to Fine and Dandy. And how,is YOUR DAY?

    Revision?

I just had my revision on Sept 10. And so far I have had zero acid reflux. Normally I have it 2-3 x a week. Still really early to tell since I am only on Clear Liquids but I am looking forward to losing the 50lbs of the 100 I gained.  Oh and I can sleep flat on my back now. Instead of at a 45 degree angle.

    Anyone scared

I have called them several times this week. Yesterday they told me go to the ER for fluids at the hospital where surgery was done, which is 40 + miles away vs my local ER, which is less than 10 miles away. They said they couldn’t do anything else for me on a Friday afternoon. I did call throughout the week though. They sent in another rx for more zofran, 8 more pills. I’m mot supposed togo back for my next appointment until 9/19.

    How old were you when?

I was 60 when I had my sleeve surgery- two years ago TODAY. I was just tired of waking up every day and thinking about my weight, how awful I looked, how tired I was, how much of a loser I was to let myself get that big. I was jut tired of hating myself every day, so I did it. Wish I'd done it 10 years earlier!
  13. Haven't tried Tagamet in over 10 years because it didn't help me pre-op with heartburn I used to suffer from, but I guess I could try it and Zantac and see if they help me wean off this poison (Prilosec).

    Damage Done?

But everyone's different. Two year out (TODAY! 2nd anniversary of my surgery) and I have somewhat of a handle on my eating. I do best with cheese, eggs, cottage cheese, fish, dark chicken. Not so great with beef ( I love steak ), and pork depends on how it's cooked (in some kind of sauce or jus, even if I don't eat the sauce... "plain" pork won't go down). I struggle with leafy veggies- who would ever have thought I'd crave a salad?- but I do, because after about 4 bites of salad, I am too full. I'm good with cooked vegetables, but raw? Not so much, once again I fill up too quickly, and that's pretty much the same with fruit. I can eat some berries, maybe a 2" piece of banana, but anything with too much substance (apples, peaches, watermelon) and I'm done after a couple of bites- and that's not "done" with the fruit or veg, that's "done" as in "too full." I am OK with crackers (usually whole grain, low fat) and often have 3 or 4 with a slice of cheese or about 2T tuna or chicken salad for lunch (but the mayo doesn't always work for me). I'm still drinking protein shakes (Syntrex, made with unsweetened almond milk) for breakfast at least 3 days a week. For some reason, I can drink an entire 8-12oz of liquid but can only handle about 1/2 to 3/4 of a cup of solid food at a time, and the texture and type of food limit what I can hold. I lost my weight in the first 9 months; since that time, I've yo-yo'd with 3 pounds. I don't think there's any association with what I eat; it's just fluctuation, not effected by my consumption. I'd like to lose another 10-20 pounds, so I'm thinking of doing a one or two week shake regimen. It'll be high protein and I'll take my vitamins, so I should be OK. I'm hoping that'll shake up my system enough that I start losing again.

    Scared about the unknown

I am 62 and today is the second anniversary of my surgery. Yes, I was 60 when I had the surgery two years ago. I would do it again in a heartbeat, and wish I'd done it 10 years sooner. I am SO MUCH HEALTHIER! No, I wasn't pre-diabetic, no autoimmune issues, etc., just getting heavier and heavier every year, and watching my blood pressure become worrisome. We've all been there, tried every diet known to mankind (some several times), goaded ourselves into exercise programs, gyms, fitness routines, etc., only to continue to gain about 6-10 pounds a year. Six pounds? Not bad... until after 10 years it's 60 pounds, after 20 years it's 120 pounds. SIXTY IS NOT TOO OLD FOR THIS SURGERY!! I was anxious, I was nervous, but I kept reminding myself: Eyes on the prize! I will tell you... no more back pain, my knees are much better, my BMI is down, my blood pressure is normal. I look in the mirror and actually smile at what I see there. How long has it been since THAT's happened? I go clothes shopping and don't hate every second, and this summer I went to the swimming pool with my daughter- in a bathing suit, in public! I feel like I am living like a "normal" person again... not someone who is always pulling and tugging on her clothes, wearing things that don't fit well, don't look good, don't make me feel good, worrying about "will I fit" in the theater seat, on the airplane, in the amusement park ride seat. I am pretty sure, even if it doesn't "cure" your arthritis issues (I know, not the correct term but you know what I mean), you will feel so much better about yourself, it'll be worth it! I won't lie... there are things I miss, things I can't now do, but I am talking about the things that got me into the weight loss mess in the first place. I won't ever again sit down and eat unlimited amounts of food: Not gonna eat a whole pizza, not gonna load my plate with seconds at Thanksgiving (and then have multiple desserts), not gonna do a whole lot of things that I used to love. But you know what? IT'S OK. I'm still learning to live with my new anatomy, my new physiology, but I'm working with it. Here's a story, a story makes me feel happy. My daughter and I are big fans of going to Disney World, and our vacations have morphed as she's grown (she'll be 25 next week). As adults, one of our favorite pastimes on vacation (not just at Disney) is enjoying good food and drink. My daughter and I went to Disney this summer, for the first time since my surgery. I was pretty concerned, especially as one of my favorite restaurants anywhere is at Disney. It's called Boma, and it's a buffet of African-inspired dishes (along with more "americanized" options). I LOVE THEIR FOOD. Authentic African dishes, multiple hand-carved roasts, 5 soup options, 10 salad options, and a dessert buffet that extends to the moon! Ahh... Boma... never gonna be the same again, and I knew that going in. But guess what? I had a WONDERFUL time! I was just careful. I tried 3 of the soups (about 2T of each, enough to taste and enjoy) and had small slices of each of the meats. I had little tastes of each of my daughter's desserts, and yes, I HAD A GLASS OF WINE. Was I well within my eating regimen? No way... I know I ate more than normal, but I wasn't stuffed, wasn't sick, and most of all, I was satisfied. It reinforced that with thinking and planning, I can STILL enjoy the aspects of a good meal, just in moderation. I was MORE than satisfied, I was EXCITED that this new "stomach" of mine isn't going to limit my enjoyment- but now I am going to limit my consumption. I felt like it was such a positive, successful evening, and I left Boma floating on air! HAVE THE SURGERY. Do it for more than just the autoimmune benefits. Do it for the excitement of feeling good about yourself for the rest of your days! Stick to the plan, follow the rules, don't play loose and fast at the beginning. It's normal to be anxious, to worry about "what if" but here's a little secret: You already know what's going to happen IF you don't have the surgery... because it's how we all lived, all these years. Another diet, another exercise program... what's gonna happen with that. HAVE THE SURGERY. Don't look back, eyes on the prize!! YOU CAN DO THIS!!

    October 2018 Sleevers

Start learning to separate your eating drinking by a half hour. Start learning to sip, no more chugging, no,lmore bolting that stuff down. Start eating slower, after surgery you want to chew into very smooth consistency. Traditionally they say applesauce, I personally say Apple Butter. May have to be 20-30,times each. Sounds rough, well, your new sleeve,on pounch is very tender and crabby at first. This is my,10th day, post, thought i,had this thing licked? Last, night my pouch and. I had a disaggreement, Precious Puch won that argument. This morning I'm sucking,on a suger free popsicle, wondering if we are still in a state of truce. I am already on Stage 3, rare, but some doctors move THAT fast. Thursday diet and liquids went well, so I got, brave, wanted to venture to something else. Bad idea, right now I'm still figuring things after all. But,i am seeing positive body changes all ready. They are small, but they make me continue. Found out I can and will do this. And in a month you will be where I am encouraging the November chicks and dudes. Stay strong it is beautiful, being where I am. HW 355 10/2017 Sw 303. 9/05/2018 height 5ft 8in Goal 175 and I am. 72 years old. If i can do it, most everybody, younger has a good chance of success.

    Damage Done?

I don't think there's any real need to pay for a bariatric keto program unless you specifically need the hand holding. Low carb keto principles are all over the web. But for most of us, the higher fat levels don't work either keeping us from losing fully or making us nauseated. I just keep my macros very simple. Let's say for instance, that most people who are consistently losing are keeping calories in the 800-1000cal range. So the macros for 1000cals on a female of normal construction (ie not a body lifter, not large framed 6foot. I'm talking average 5'4" female): 30% Protein (75g protein); 60% Fat (67g fat); 10% Carbs (25g carbs--from low glycemic veggies, nuts, seeds, dairy, and low glycemic berries in small amounts). There are NO required carbs. None. Cuz the liver can make every spec of glucose needed for those few cells that require glucose and that can't run on ketones. Otherwise, fat from your body (and a tiny bit from your diet) supplies the ketones needed for fuel for your body. (For me, I have to keep fats lower cuz it makes me nauseated. So my most recent macros are more like: 30% Protein (75g prot); 50% Fat (56g); 20% Carbs (50g carbs)--My carbs usually around 30-40g whole per day and once you subtract out fiber, they are closer to 25-30g. I am def. in ketosis. But honestly most days I don't make 1000 cals either. I do get my protein range from my RD of 60-75g protein though. It's pretty simple. Lean meats/proteins, limit cheese and processed meats a "tiny" bit. Lots of leafy greens and low glycemic veg and a tiny bit of low carb berries if desired. Nuts/seeds/avocado/healthy fats. Healthy dairy if carbs and cals allow. And stay away from legumes, grains, sugar and as much sugar alcohols as possible. Eat cleanly and shop from the outer isles. Drink 100oz of water a day or a little more. Exercise (walk at the very least).

    Anyone scared

I was sleeved on 9/10/18. I also have buyers remorse. Have had it since 9/11/18. But I absolutely would change it if I could!! If this situation had an undo button, I would have been hitting that thing with every ounce of energy I barely have. I have been miserable since surgery. I’m mad at myself for doing this to myself. I’m tired of the smells of ANYTHING making me nauseous. I’m mad that I’m going to have to miss 2 weeks of work for this mess, when I would much rather be out every day getting paid. I’m just so completely miserable and mad at myself and I don’t feel any better today than I did on Monday evening.

    4 months post op--disney??

Surgery 6/21, down 40 lbs so far, absolutely no issues with anything so far. Going to Disney end of this month, at the 3 month mark, and also have the dining plan. I plan to enjoy myself but still try to make certain I get enough protein and exceeed my daily water needs. I’m taking my Genepro protein powder and some sugarfree pudding cups (the non-refrigerated ones), so if I don’t feel like I made my protein for the day it’s easy enough to add 10-30g of protein to a cup of pudding before bed. Since you’re with so many others you won’t be wasting food when you can’t finish more than a small portion of your meal cuz they can help out lol. Especially the free dessert with dinner. Enjoy a bite or two, if your tummy can handle it than share with others. Same with the alcohol. I don’t drink but get a wine with my dinners and my husband can enjoy it after I try a sip or two. I’m at least 50-60 lbs own from last trip there a few years ago and looking forward to not worrying about if I’ll fit ok in the rollercoaster seats. Last time missed out on one of them. Stay safe in the storm right now, Good luck with your surgery and have an awesome vacay!!

    August bypassers/sleevers

I have been “in the process” since January 2018. Finally sleeved on 9/10/2018. Definitely has felt like a long road. But right now I’m having serious doubts about my decision making skills. Today, day 5, has probably been the roughest day yet. I keep hearing that I should be improving a little each day but I think i must be going in reverse. The night of my surgery I remember telling my fiancé that I felt 100x better after childbirth and with that at least I’d be leaving the hospital with an adorable baby!! Lol. I’m here praying and hoping the sleeve fairies bless me with a better day tomorrow!! I’d love to feel well enough to finally get out of the house, even for just a little while!!
  22. I had GERD before sleeve surgery. In the past, I had some pretty bad bouts of it where it caused chest pain. I also had GERD pretty bad with the band. I'd also go long periods with nothing, so it was a mystery. When I started looking into another bariatric surgery, my surgeon cautioned me, but continued to perform pre-op testing. The doctor felt that my GERD was "situational", meaning that it was related to diet and obesity. So, we decided it was worth the risk, but he warned that there were no guarantees that I wouldn't have GERD after the sleeve. I had surgery on 4/10/18 and about 3 weeks afterwards, I started getting heartburn. I started on Nexium right away and the symptoms are well controlled with it. I wouldn't say that it's severe or "intractable" as my psych evaluator so kindly put it. It's just a little bit of heartburn and if I eat too late in the evening, I will wake with a sore throat (easily remedied by sleeping on an inclined bed). My advice, discuss with your doctor. Every person is different and every person will respond differently.
  23. So, surgery date is 10/23 and the anxiety is already overwhelming me..... I'm 59 and worried that I'm too old to have the surgery. I have autoimmune arthritis and my doctor tells me that losing weight will help with the joint pain (already sort of knew that) but also will help with the inflammation..... Anyone else feel like they were making a mistake to have the surgery. Thought that this one last time a diet would work? I feel like my brain is doing cartwheels......Maybe I should be in a medically induced coma until the surgery so I stop fretting about every little thing (that was a joke) Feed back needed and appreciated.... Thanks

My surgery is set for 10/15/18! I just got approval the other day, after my 6 month supervised diet. I have been wanting to do this for years, but it was just this year that I had an insurance plan that covered the surgery. I am so excited to finally have a date set, but very nervous! I am hoping to get about 3 weeks off of work, but we'll see how the paperwork shakes out.

    PUMPKIN SPICE YOGURT, PSA

We didn’t when I was young but over the last maybe 10 years, we have begin to. The commercialisation opportunities have been embraced by retailers, and the American influence from TV is strong! On 5 November we do celebrate with fireworks, rather oddly, a man named Guy Fawkes trying to blow up the British Houses of Parliament in 1605! So that and Halloween are becoming a late-October early-November thing.
