    Recovery question redux

It was about 5.5 months when I felt pretty good about running (started running about a month before). It was about 10 months when I felt pretty good about general fitness (started cross fit about 3 months before 2x a week, @home fitness 3x a week). My 1 year post op was July 2nd 2013. At 5 weeks I was walking with some hiking.

    Under 30 Lapbanders

I'm 29, was banded 2/5/10 and have lost 26lbs to date. I am very happy with my decision. The social aspect was difficult at first because I wasn't eating solid foods but after that, everything is back to normal.. I just can't eat as much.
  3. So, I'm 7weeks post op and still having daily diarrhea, sometimes up to 6-8x a day. I'm lactose intolerant so those things will cause it, but sometimes it happens with meats and other non-lactose foods. I'm wondering if all this diarrhea will have an effect on the absorption of nutrients for me? Often the diarrhea follows a meal after only 5-10 minutes. So far my labs are fine but wondering if this is going to be a problem. My surgeon says no one really knows how long nutrient absorption takes and just wants me to take Immodium or Questran, guess I'm going to have to break down and fill the nasty Questran script:( Does anyone have any info in this issue?

How is MGB different to RNY help

As of March 2019 MGB is still not endorsed by the ASMBS ( American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery), nor been FDA approved, so I doubt anyone will find any Insurance to cover it. There aren't even many Doctors in the US who offer it, most likely for the same reason. If you could find a US Dr that offers it, it would undoubtedly be a cash pay basis. It is, however, very popular in Mexico and other Countries, but again, you would be paying cash or using a credit card as I am, through places like Bariatricpal MX or BeLiteWeight and a few others who have low cost deals with reputable hospitals and Surgeons in Mexico.
  6. I am eight days out of the revision surgery but I would still sometimes feel hungry in the evening. Is this normal or not? I drink about 70g of premier protein shake each day. When I feel hungry, after drinking two sips of protein shake, it kind of relieve my hunger. I feel worried that I would still want to eat? How does everyone else feel? I have lost 10 pounds since surgery but did not lose any weight in 2 days. I don't know if I am doing something wrong.
  7. I’m 10 days post op. SW 279 CW 250.4. I’m struggling with being able to consume more than 2-3 bites. My concern is the “sick look” most surgery pots have. I want my weight loss to look natural and healthy. I have a family member who had surgery last year she’s lost a lot of weight but it looks sick on her. I’m focusing on nutrient dense vitamin packed foods. I walk 7-8000 steps a day and have been eating Smoothie King mostly n chicken strips. Stay optimistic ❤️

    To All Business Owners

Delarla - you & I could seriously talk!! I ran a thriving, successful business with The Pampered Chef for 10 years. As I'm sure you know, The Pampered Chef is a part of the Direct Sales business just like Slumber Parties. I quit my full-time job to do Pampered Chef full-time & it was the BEST decision I ever made. I moved up to a Senior Sales Director & my team led in Sales & Recruiting for a very long time. I had over 400 in my over-all downline. I was the area trainer & developed a total of 12 Directors under me & I taught them to train their teams. I had several consultants under me who were #1 in the company!! I earned the Top Performance Award several years in a row for Recruiting & Sales & got all the jewelry, prizes & all the fun stuff you told us about at your recent Conference. I've been on every trip you can imagine!! I was making quite a good income too!! Direct Sales is a great way to go & I applaud you for deciding to leave your Paralegal job & take this on. There's lots of work a head of you but it is so worth it!! You'll take a drop in pay the first year, but if you really kick it in gear, you'll make it straight to the top!!!! 6 months ago I retired from The Pampered Chef & gave up my title, BIG pay-check & my large down-line. Everything moved up to my Up-line Director. It was a hard decision to make, & I still miss everything about it. But, I have 3 little kids who desperately needed a mother who was THERE for them. Several people thought I had lost my mind & I've been criticized for my decision, but I knew that no amount of money could take the place of my kids. :phanvan It was the right decision for me!! But boy, do I miss the MONEY!!!! I have helped a lot of people in my area who want help in starting a Direct Sales business. I have lots of tips on managing a team & helping them RECRUIT!! If you are serious about wanting some help, I'd be happy to help you. We can talk about payment!! Maybe you could pay me in products!! WAHOO!! (My husband would love that!!)

    What am I doing wrong?

Oh gosh,I actually didn't lose 40 pounds in the last weeks ,this is since I started the Bariatric program which is April of 2008,I've lost 10 pounds since the surgery (although it would be GREAT to lose that much lol). I need to change it.

    August 10, 2009 - My Rebirth Day!

justiceaim1 - Thanks for all that info! I actually started (and lasted about a minute) following the couch to 5K program in a past weight loss attempt. I have never been a runner but have always wanted to be. That's somehting I should definitely reconsider now! I walked (very slowly) on my (5 year old, used about 5 times ever) treadmill today for about 10 minutes. My stomach started hurting, so that was enough, but I'm proud for even getting on it. That thing sure is about to get plenty of use to make up for all the sitting around it has done!!!! kay Ellen - Congrats on your success so far. I guess I didn't realize how long it is b/w surgery and first fill, but I guess the liquid Protein diet keeps us on our best behavior. Are you sharing any of your yummy mush recipes anywhere on this site? You totally should, I know I would love some!!!

    Im losing my hair

Everyone, for what it is worth, I work with hair loss and am losing hair myself. I have lost weight before and I lost much of my hair. That was back in the phen phen times. I have worked with many people who have lost hair after wieght loss. It soes usually grow back. Mine always has. I also lost alot after two babies in two years. LIke I had to wear a wig. From all the research I have done it is very common. I have yet to see anything make any difference. I sell the entire Nioxin line and use all of it. I even take the vitamins and did for several months before I was banded. I was banded on 1/19/06. What nioxin will do is make for a shorter fall cycle and a longer growth cycle. Hair grows on a cyclical schedule and it helps to increase the growth phase. We have people who are on chemo use it but it does not prevent there hair loss. Does help to keep the scalp healthy as possible. I know it won't hurt and will help some. I do not use the treatments for this kind of hair loss because the research says it won't help. I worked for the Nioxin company for several years so I do know what I am saying. It is made for androgenetic hair loss. Chin up everyone. I have yet to see anyone who didn't get their hair back. I was in a panic too and still am to a degree. It is very disturbing to see hair all over the place and know it is from me and not my dear balding husband. I know that if push comes to shove there are some really cute wigs out there now. I have one in reserve. Hair is a big problem when it is no longer nice when a person has had nice hair for most of their life. A crushing blow to ones self esteem. I had a client who was so sad when her thinned she would not leave her home. I fit her with a hair integration unit, ( that is a wig that you comb your own hair through) and it made her so happy to have a full head of hair she could style again. Best of luck to all and keep on swallerin that protein. Yum Yummmmm!!! Darlene
  12. Coops I know exactly what you mean when you say no one else really gets it! I bought a skirt for my sisters rehearsal dinner and the 12 was too big, The 10 fit perfectly and I was thrillled with myself, told people and they were like "thats nice" but everyone here knows what it took to get there and how excititng it really is. GREAT JOB!! We do get it!

How long are you missing work?

I know that it's going to suck. I'm more worried about dropping off my 3 y/o to daycare and having to climb that flight of stairs. I'm considering asking the director if I can't bring her in another entrance that is ground level that they don't typically utilize for pick-up/drop-off for the first week back. 19 year old me went through a laparoscopic gallbladder removal and was grocery shopping the same night and returned to a more physically demanding job than I have now within two-three days. When I had my first baby, I returned to work in a couple of weeks, so I think I'm either stupid or hard-headed.

    Just getting started

Not for me. Actually my doc let me advance my diet as tolerated. Since I am diabetic my blood sugars were doing a rollercoaster. So by day 10 I was eating mushy/soft food like fish, mashed potatoes and such. It really helped to get my BS under control by getting back to a seminormal eating schedule. I haven't looked back. I go next week for my "four" week checkup. It is really being done at six weeks but that is okay cause then I can get a fill. So transitioning from liquids to mushy/soft was very easy for me. M

    Just getting started

The two most common themes for this time of your surgery are SIP, SIP, SIP and WALK, WALK, WALK. I found it difficult to get enough fluids/food liquids the first few days. But then my swelling went down and I have had no problems since about days 8 - 10. I personally didn't have a lot of gas. It is very individual what you will experience. Did your doc give you instructions to follow post surgery? Myra
  17. I agree with the virtual model thing it's so accurate!! Again being that we are similar in stats and I (as I have been told) are big boned...I remember being 200 lbs and in a size 10 jeans so when we are tall and large framed we tend to carry our weight better than someone with that weight and shorter. The funniest thing for me was when I went into do my presurgical upper GI and the technician said wow you look great how much weight have you lost so far and I told them I havn't even had the surgery yet and they had to go check the paperwork LOL. If you are like me I am very muscular as well so I tend to weigh more because of that but look like I weigh less. My best advice i could give you is not to compare yourself because as you lose weight your body looks much different. I just had a "guy" friend of mine who hasn't seen me since my surgery tell me I looked Fantastic and I am thinking in my head I weight 233 lbs how can I look fantastic LOL but you know what I am a size 14 now so that's much better than a 22-24 so I must look better right? Keep doing what you are doing...stick to the band rules and one day you are going to be like OMG look at me !!!!

I guess I should introduce myself

i just got banded. feeling lot of restriction. i was 33bmi. got banded in juarez mexico. excellent doctor. no regrets. this is day 19 of having my lapband i love it.
  19. I had my surgery August 23rd. My first fill was Tues November 16th. I was told to do liquids for 2 days and then food as tolerated. While doing liquids I had 5 episodes where I had BP. 3 were while I was drinking my protein slowly, 1 was on OJ and the other 1 was when I took a vitamin. I called the doctor and they told me to come in and have some saline removed. Last night and this morning I was doing great and had no problems getting anything down so I was second guessed going to the docs office today. Around 10:00 I attempted to try real food so I had some eggs. Because the band is tighter in the morning I had a protein shake for breakfast and was going to do eggs as a snack. Well I took a very small bite of the eggs chewed it up real well and swallowed. It was atleast 15 till I was able to take another bite because it felt like the eggs were stuck. I took another bite, but was afraid of BP'ing because I could feel the eggs in my throat and it was starting to get painful. About an hour later I started to drink some water because the pain started to go away. Now I am scared to eat anything. I thought I was suppose to feel full in my belly with the band not like food was stuck in my throat and it was painful. Is this the way the band is suppose to make you feel or does it sound like it is overfull? Any suggestions would be helpful. If I dont have the saline removed today I wont be able to do anything about it till after Dec 8th because of Thanksgiving and vacation.
  20. I am 10 days post op and I did 10 minutes on the elipticle and some very light weights. Even though it was a very light work out, it felt good.

    Dumping question...

I had my first experience of dumping 2 days ago. It was the worst pain and discomfort i have EVER experienced in my life!!! Im only 10 days post bypass op. I think it was because i accidentally became dehydrated (a 1 hour doc appointment turned into 3 and i didnt ask for water) Later that evening i was celebrating my husbands birthday and had 1 scoop of vanilla icecream. BIG mistake!! The ice cream into a dehydrated intestine..... Within 30 mins i was writhing in agony, sweating, shivering...just wanted to die! So if thats dumping i dont ever want to go there again...ever! I had had 1 scoop of ice cream before, as i had become hypoglycemic and my surgeon said i needed to increase a bit of sugar intake. No problems then. So i think it was in combination with dehydration. Does anyone have any tips on how they get through terrible episode of dumping if it happens??? I was just unable to do anything to help myself. It scared me to death. I dont have any appetite now because im so afraid of feeling that again. I can only bring myself to drink weak cordial because i know i can tolerate that. I have been asking myself what have i done? But i know I'll get past it. 23. I'm a newbie here and thought I'd share my excitement. I just got my surgery date, 7/25/11 and since then, everything seems as if it's going in fast-motion. I've started my pre-op diet yesterday and so far, so good. I'm reading all the posts I can on here and trying to get a feel as to everyone's experience so far. My daughter is getting married in December, so I'm already envisioning a great looking mother-of-the-bride's dress. Did anyone have any unrealistic expectations prior to surgery?
  24. I just wanted to look and feel pretty. My health was so declining that I needed to have WLS as revision to the gastric bypass I had 10 yrs ago. Preop was not a bad plan for me--I now am challenged by eating the solid foods. I am glad you are getting sleeved soon and wish you well. Ronda
  25. My surgery date is November 19, so I totally understand where you're coming from. I am a nurse and don't usually get to spend Thanksgiving with my family, so I'm actually really excited to be guaranteed to spend this holiday with them (even if I am just relaxing in my PJs). Next Thanksgiving, life will be completely different for us, I can hardly wait to see where I am a year from now. My family is extremely supportative of my decision and they made a vow to stop making every holiday so much about eating. We are going to incorporate a fun physical activity into every holiday from here on out! Although my closest family members (Mom, boyfriend and siblings) don't struggle with their weight, my cousin and Aunt both just had bariatric surgery. I am very fortunate to have them as a support system! good luck <3
