    lipo lift

I already needed much lipo in all my body bc I am in my mid 40s, but now after surgery I think I might have to really do some sort of lipo to tighten the skin. although I have not been exercising and that I know will help with skin sagging so i am going to try to do light lifting for arms. and maybe more weight resistance. I have been cleaning my house organizing and keeping active in other ways but I have to be more like dedicated to keep up with the weekly weight loss.

    Pineapple weight loss drink

I have tried it prior to my surgery. It's actually good and works! But mind you It's basically the water weight in your body that your losing. But hey I was desperate lol It was fresh pineapple, ginger, cucumber, water, and lemon juice. Omg I'm like craving it as I write this...it's so refreshing! Derma Rolling Loose Skin?

Hate to tell you but the only way to get rid of loose skin is surgery. Sad but true. Think of your skin as a hair band you’ve stretched out from lots of use. Ain’t nothing going to make it shrink back to how it was when it was new. Your skin is elastic too. How much loose skin you will have depends on many factors: age, gender, highest weight, how long you had been obese, genetics, etc. Doing weights will help fill in some of the loose skin & strengthen & refine your underlying muscle structure but it won’t make the loose skin disappear. Most of those ‘beauty’ type treatments like needling, radio frequency, uv lights, etc. only offer temporary fixes. Stop them & the effects disappear. When you near/reach your goal you may look a little gaunt but don’t worry this does improve. For about 12 months after I reached goal (& when I kept losing) ‘well meaning’ people often asked me or my family if I was unwell. But once I stabilised about 7 months ago, the comments stopped. My remaining fat seemed to redistribute. My butt isn’t quite a saggy & my face looks fresher & fuller. So don’t rush off to do drastic treatments. Give your body a chance to settle. I rather have my loose skin then be the weight I was.
  4. Wow? Too thin to give blood? I didn’t know that was a thing either. My uncle is sometimes told no if his BP is too low - guess they don’t want him collapsing on them! Well there you go there’s a 50kg minimum in Aust. Must be the same in Canada. To donate blood, the minimum weight is 50 kg. We need you to be above a minimum weight because the amount of blood your body contains is related to your weight and height. If our standard donation represents too high a volume, it's not safe for you to donate. Makes sense.

    Eating too much?

You would have to be very large portions very frequently over a prolonged period of time to stretch your tummy. And certainly if you had stretched your tummy this close to your surgery you would have had issues with torn stitches/staples & you’d know about it. How much have you lost since your surgery? How much were you expecting to lose at four weeks? A lot of people have very unreal expectations of how much weight they should be losing based upon programs like My 600lb Life. They lose large amounts of weight because they had large amounts to lose to begin. In my first 4 weeks I’d lost about 8kg (about 17lbs). This was a pretty reasonable amount for my height, weight, age & gender. Have you experienced the three weeks stall (though it can happen at week 2, 3, or 4)? With a stall, which is extremely common, you may not lose for anywhere from a week to 3 weeks. It’s just your body coming to terms with all the changes. You will start to lose again & you will likely experience stalls again as you lose. Ask your medical team for portion size recommendations. Most recommend 1/4 to 1/3 cup to begin but there are variations. Some are given caloric goals. Personally, it would take me three days to eat 2 scrambled eggs so three meals but some can eat more. I still think you should be eating a wider variety of foods to get a broader range of nutrients. Sweet potatoes are very low in protein. Are you meeting your daily protein goals? Are you tracking the caloric & nutritional content or your food?
  6. I had original Bypass in March 2003. Only lost 50lbs. I then opted for the “experimental Stomypx” in 2010 lost 12 lbs. so I just had a Haitian hernia repair on 6/9/21. Along with “tightening my stretched stoma of 4 cm to making it 1 cm. My pouch maintained it size since 2013! Since my stoma opening was to big it bypassed my stomach. It has now caused GERD, hernia… well you know… My question to all the revised ppl is was the weight loss slower? My surgeon said I will loos60% of my body w excess body weight. Did you lose that? Or less or more? I do feel restriction… but still pretty reluctant I will ever reach an ideal healthy weight. I went in at 228 6/9 I’m now at 215 4 weeks post r revision

    Can We Talk About...Birth Control?

I was on Deposit Provera from age 25-35. I’m now 39. I did good while on it. I did not gain weight. Yes, every 3 months when I was injected I noticed increased appetite but not an issue. The bad thing though and it took me a long time to realize the bad effect it had on me was it caused horrible depression. I stopped taking it I now I have the mire na IUD. No issues.

    Having a tough time

Thank you, maybe I should be happy about the weight I've lost not gained. I think sometimes we beat ourselves up for nothing. Maybe 115 is too low for me I was only going by what my doctor said since I have a smaller frame and back and knee problems that too much weight on me makes things worse. She said that even 130 is technically too big for me but I'll just put like 140 -150 range as my lowest to get down to if I do because it doesn't seem that realistic and a unobtainable goal. I just want to work right now to get under 200 because the most weight I could be at surgery is 180 to be safe.

    New to the group

Hello everyone! I am in the process of getting approved for my weight loss surgery (sleeve). I am beyond excited to start this journey and become a healthier me but I am also nervous to start this process. Can anyone provide me some awesome tips or warnings? I appreciate all of you! Angel

Why is it so hard to find a good therapist?!

Yup, finding one that deals with disordered eating and all is extremely tough. One of the things I found super surprising was that I've actually been in therapy for a good 15 or so years now off and on, with different therapists as I've moved around. Not once was disordered eating ever brought up in regards to my weight. My weight was addressed as something I wanted to change, but nothing really beyond that. The general understanding from my therapists was that if we just fix the depression, then the weight will magically float away. Which didn't happen. So I was super surprised come psych eval time when they mentioned it. I definitely recommend talking to the therapist that evaluated you if that's an option. Even if you don't decide to go with him, he may be able to offer suggestions for other people/places. Also wanted to clarify my "homework" comment a bit. That was probably the wrong word for it. I have behaviors that I need to change for this to stick long term. So each session we'll kind of pick a behavior to focus on given my current progress and feelings. I will report how it went, but I don't get graded on how I've done, and the therapist doesn't degrade/insult/demean me or anything negative if I do badly. We always tend to focus on what went well, and what we can do better. It's strictly a trial and error thing and finding what works for me while making slow, sustainable changes. I have actually used BetterHelp around 4 years ago (maybe more?) and, it wasn't for me. Now, they may have improved since I used it because if I remember correct they didn't use to require people to be certified and all that, and now they do. But the old experience was just not something I found helpful. Was fine for just venting, but pretty useless beyond that.
  13. The dumping keeps me honest, but I have found that some things don't cause me to dump. It's not a good feeling when you're all sweaty, your stomach hurts and you have gas that you can't trust 100%. I find though, that eating anything super greasy is way worse. i try to avoid anything greasy and anything with a lot of sugar in it (super vanilla-y things really hurt my stomach). It's really not as bad as people think, but you have to absolutely stop when you're full because any sort of over-full feeling is so horrible feeling. I truly avoid that with all my might. even if I have 2 bites left on my plate, it stays there because i'd rather waste that bit of food than hate myself for the next hour and feel sick. Honestly, I chose the bypass over the sleeve because of the heartburn and the potential to gain weight back easier (from my understanding/observation) but def talk with your doctor about this. I'm sure you'll figure out what's best for you.
  14. There's a WLS YouTuber (My Level 10 Life) who swears by Better Help (she's actually paid to promote them, but she swears that she gets asked to promote a lot of things and only promotes things she really believes in), but I'm skeptical of it and I'm almost certain my insurance wouldn't cover any of that. I can try asking my surgery center for a recommendation. I didn't ask them because I wanted to get someone in-network for my insurance, but at this point, I think I'd rather pay out of pocket for something that actually helps. I have a high deductible that I haven't met yet, so I'm paying out of pocket right now, anyway. Maybe I could ask the therapist who did my pre-surgery eval for a recommendation. I've actually thought about going to him because I liked him and I could tell he knows a lot about WLS, but it seems weird (and maybe a conflict of interest) to see the person who did my eval. I agree about not liking homework! That's another thing that annoyed me about the first one -- he was big on homework, and it was all really generic, nothing that he came up with specifically to help me. I had told him that my biggest struggle was that I felt like my surgery and weight loss is taking over my life and I have no time or energy left for anything else, and then he comes up with some busy work for me to do.

    Strength after sleeve?

I’m almost 4 months post op. I did weight lifting and cardio at home prior to surgery. A month ago I decided to join a CrossFit gym. I’m the month that I’ve been doing CrossFit, I’ve become noticeably faster (took over 2 minutes off my fastest mile time) and have been able to physically see some muscle definition. I’ve also been able to lift heavier than I did before surgery. Overall, I’d say it did take me some time to get back into the swing of things but I’ve definitely had some positive changes with my strength, endurance, and mental health.
  16. Thank you so much for your helpful reply! I also had a psych eval for surgery approval and I actually really liked the therapist. I could tell he knew a lot about weight loss surgery. I think he said that he offers post-surgery counseling, but it seems like it would be awkward and maybe a conflict of interest. But I've been thinking about going to him if I give up on the current one. I realize that there will be a lot of talking about feelings and stuff with any therapist, but what's frustrating to me is that neither of these therapists seems to make any effort to relate any of my feelings to food/eating, even though I explicitly said these are the issues I want to address. But maybe if I can articulate this better to the therapist, she will understand what I'm looking for.

    Just So Proud

Thank you 🥰🥰 it’s not even just about the weight loss either - I didn’t do this because I hated my body or because I was unhappy with how I look. It’s just amazing how much better I feel, how strong I feel, how much better I sleep and am able to live my life! It’s an absolute game changer!

    Strength after sleeve?

Just had my my one month check up yesterday, which I was actually at 7 weeks out from surgery, and they told me I could not lift weights, or even use the bands, until after 3 months. They said in the beginning they just want me to concentrate on cardio then I can worry about toning and strengthening after 3 months. Now that was just my plan/surgeon. I know others here who were able to lift a month out. It all depends on your doc so definitely ask those questions. And of course they will tell you a guideline they like to follow but it will ultimately come down to how you feel afterwards. If all goes well then yeah, it goes according to plan. But if you end up being someone who runs into issues then it could be longer and not according to plan, ya know? I started going to the gym regularly about a month and a half before my surgery. And was surprised at what I could do right out the gate after not having been at the gym in years. I would like to get back to it when I can. Despite the weight I lost since surgery, I do not feel as thought I lost much muscle/strength. If given the green light, I feel like I could jump right back into the gym and be lifting the same weight/reps/sets that I was before. It may even be easier since I've dropped almost 35lbs since then. Of course my situation doesn't even compare to yours as I was not competitive nor was I in the shape that you were physically. LOL Either way, discuss this all with your surgeon. At least then you'll get an idea at what to expect. On a side note, strongman competitions on TV used to be one of my most favorite things to watch on TV years ago. It used to come on regularly every week. I haven't seen it on air in over 10 years. Wish it would come back on again. Best of luck to you.
  20. Hello all I am 16 days post op from gastric sleeve. I lost 10 pounds quickly the first 5 days after surgery and have been at the same weight for 11 days now. 😥 I have been following my program: meeting water goals, starting supplements when I was supposed to and following the food plan. I know that stalls are to be expected, but darn it if it isn’t frustrating! When will it end? I am putting it out into the universe that I want to bust through this wall! How long did your stall last and was it right after surgery for you as well? On the positive side: I am already off of 3 of my 4 blood pressure meds, feel good, and have been sleeping great. I’m trying to focus on these great healthy wins and not the numbers on the scale. Thanks to all for the support an insights offered on this site. I appreciate it greatly!
  21. Hi, I've been stalking (in a nice way) you all for tidbits and insights in what to expect and a time-line of events. This is my 3rd attempt to get weight loss surgery throughout my adult life. The first 2 attempts got my hopes up and then boom, insurance denied. So I work for walmart and saw something about thier Center of Excellence and weight loss coverage and thought I'd give it another shot. So because of covid I wouldn't have to go from Cincinnati to Cleveland to have this done, which is the closest center to me. I have an exemption they call it. So they found me a dr in cincy. I have an appointment 7-16. Communication between myself and insurance is basically a new experience for me. I don't typically see drs. Or had anything major happen to me in years. I have a letter that says I have a prior authorization but they have to agree on the cost. Anyone gone through this? I want to believe it's finally going to happen yet still apprehensive.
  22. Hello all, I just need a spot to share my happiness since I don’t talk a lot about wls with many of people (it’s not a secret, I just haven’t made it a central point of my personality!) I’m about 3 months (3 months 1 week) post op for sleeve, about to go in for my 3 month checkup, and I’ve officially lost 60 pounds, which is also half way to my goal 🥰 It was tough getting started in the beginning, and I struggled to know how to eat had how much to eat properly. I’ve even had some setbacks gaining a pound or 2 here or there. But I set this goal for myself and I met it - I’m so happy. I am forever grateful for this journey, this opportunity, and this community along the way! Good luck to everyone and enjoy your day!
  23. Just to be a downer on this yucky, cold, rainy day, I’ve got a weird non-scale FAIL: We thought we would go and do some do-gooding yesterday and donate some blood, but was informed that I do not meet the minimum weight requirement for my height to donate…and was unceremoniously turned away ☹️ I didn’t know that was even a thing.

    Hair Loss & Highlights??

I've continued to have my hair highlights since my surgery and weight loss. I've lost a lot of hair in the past few months. My stylist actually said that the highlights coat the hair shaft and makes my hair thicker so it doesn't look so thin. Definitely didn't cause any additional hair loss.

    Having a tough time

You've lost so much weight!!! That's something to be super proud of, definitely take a minute to pat yourself on the back and celebrate your accomplishment. I'm sorry you're going through this. 115 is a really low goal. Most bariatric patients don't get to such a low BMI. Maybe work on losing the 30 lbs you need to for skin surgery and set your final goal a little higher so you don't feel so disheartened? As for losing more weight right now, don't do anything drastic; just focus on the basics, like eating good food; veggies and lean protein. Try using an app like MyFitnessPal or Baritastic to track your calories. Don't beat yourself up for gaining weight during the pandemic - it happened to a LOT of people!! Wishing you the best!
