Post Op Liquid/ Soft Diet
Cheryldee replied to Brandi18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Each doctor is different.. I think they do that because they are wanting you to get used to a restricted type of eating so you wont hurt your band when you finally do have a restriction. I only had restricted eating Post Op for 2 weeks... and i remember feeling starved! I feel for you! Dont beat yourself up too harshly. You will eventually have that restriction so you dont feel hungry but right now you dont. You just want to set yourself up for a great start to your journey and if you stick to it... you will lose additional weight here in the beginning and be off to a great start. I remember having the feeling like "I paid all that money.. and Im still starving...! " But it will get there.... just try to stick to it these next few weeks... if you fall off the wagon, get right back on... it happens! I ate alot of yogurt and tried to fill my hunger with grapes and healthy things... but it is difficult because you ARE hungry! Hang in there! Your worth it! -
Good luck, Gina! I am trying again today, too. I will have to look for this apple turkey jerkey! What dept is it in? I just brought Soup and eggs and vegetables today. But I have been adding unflavored Protein to soup and yogurt. Have you tried that? I read it on here somewhere. Also using unflavored greek yogurt like sour cream in my soup and on my refried Beans...it's so good!

I had a rough time taking my medicine last night. The topamax and nortryplylin (sic) taste terrible crushed and mixed with yogurt drink. I'll be researching a different option today. Honey is a liquid right?? lol I slept well, mostly on my left side with a long body pillow just under the edge of my belly. I felt good when I woke up and didnt feel the stitches much till I sat up. Last night was the first night I slept the whole night through which I think made a difference for me. White grape juice is all I've had so far today and I'm sipping it slowly.

You need to make good food choices. McDonald's is not a good food choice. Chicken nuggets are terrible for you. Good proteins first and then non-starchy veggies. Things like REAL chicken, fish, etc and none of it breaded or fried. String cheese, cottage cheese, low carb low sugar yogurt, eggs. If you are hungry for a snack you can even indulge in a little bit of hummus or roasted almonds... yum. Or do a google search for chicken crust pizza and make yourself a delicious, healthy, low carb, protein packed pizza. You have to change the way you are eating, the sleeve is only a tool. How we use it is up to us. Also, remember, if you are getting hungry often.... carbs bring on hunger. Protein helps fill you up. Try to keep that protein between 90-100 grams a day and keep those carbs under 40 grams a day. If you aren't already using it, use myfitnesspal to keep track of your carbs, protein and calories.

If you are having to chew, i dont think that qualifies as pureed, jmho. Greek yogurt, refried beans, scrambled eggs, that type of thing that doesnt require chewing really. Also, you didnt mention how far along you were?

When does the hunger return?
sillykitty replied to sillykitty's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
How far out are you? I never felt any real restrictions with liquid-y foods, like yogurt or soup. I could keep eating, I just had to make myself stop when I felt satisfied. Solid foods like chicken though, yep, definitely feel the restriction after 1-2 oz, or even less sometimes. -
60g protein + 64oz water at 3 weeks = impossible!
takingbackcontrol replied to takingbackcontrol's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
ok glad to know I'm not alone in this. spent a lot of time last night looking up exactly what foods give me the biggest "bang for the buck" and will be sticking closer to them, less experimenting. yogurt, cottage cheese, meats basically. it seems I can do one goal or the other, just not both. depends on what I focus on that day, and maybe I'll go back and forth for a while til I can attain both. -

I am in Greece at the moment and am surprised by how much protein focused items that are available in the supermarkets. I am having some delicious protein yogurts that are way better than at home. I don't do shakes but there are masses of them here too. Good quality brands too. I am sure that France will be the same. You will get good soups like consommé and, fish and stews. Omelettes, eggs cheese and milk are great go to foods. Enjoy yourself Sent from my Lenovo TB-J606F using BariatricPal mobile app -
Don't Waste Your Money- Shop After Pre & Post Diets Given By Md
IsaacsGram posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am now on day 2 of my pre-op diet, surgery in 12 days. In my anxiousness to "be ready" I bought cases of Protein shakes, soy milk, V-8 mini cans, a variety of fruits and berries, and high protein Cereal & a dozen greek yogurts. GUESS WHAT? None of that is on my pre-op diet and the rest I can't have until 6 months after surgery! I had just read too much and thought I knew what was going to be ordered- I WAS WRONG! So once again, remember---research, research, research---but always take YOUR doctor's advice BEFORE buying anything!- 13 replies

Thank you so much Djmohr! You were so helpful! As for the different proteins I do not like beans, yogurt, and cottage cheese. nuts and seeds bother my stomach. My main protein source are my protein shakes. I'm going to talk to my personal trainer today and see if we can mix it up. :-) thank you for your advice. I really appreciate it!

My Dr. recommends Sugar Free Carnation Instant Breakfast. It does not have as much Protein as the protein powders, (mixed with skim milk it has 14 grams) but he allows his patients to drink that twice a day as long as we use another higher protein drink mix once a day. The other one I used was "Unjury" unflavored. It has a slight gritty texture, but is bearable if you blend it with milk, lowfat frozen yogurt, and fruit or a TBS of peanut butter. Good Luck!

are you sure that it's not the yogurt keeping you from losing weight? I dieted most of my life and know that my sensitive system simply refuses to release any weight as long as I consume dairy products, nuts, beans, cheese, peas, or even citrus fruits. I, like you, also tried the Greek yogurt but didn't lose any weight on the days that I did. Do you have sensitive skin? I ask because I'm wondering if your system is as sensitive as mine.

On the meal plan to lose 15 lbs before my surgery, and feel like I'm doing something wrong. I do my protein for bfast, yogurt and fruits as snack, turkey sandwich at lunch and I figure out somethig for dinner. But I'm going to bed hungry and waking up at like 3 am hungry. I wanna stick to it but I'm dying to chew. Any suggestions other than yogurt? Like a cup of dry cereal or just SOMETHING..hate feeling hungry at night

I packed my Breakfast and lunch for tomorrow and a snack...this is what I packed: French vanilla yogurt and straweberries for breakfast: mixed greens, almond shivers, blue cheese chunks and light ranch dressing for lunch. and a apple sauce for snack. Today I ate: yogurt for breakfast, mcdonalds grilled chicken salad for lunch (didn't steal not ONE fry...yeah), and for dinner I had salad again....but the fish was dry so didn't eat it. I'm not sure I got enough protien in. Oh and I split a carmel frap light with the girls (in other words Karah let me have a few sips...the pig) Much better sunday than I did saturday. I practically ate a whole popcorn at the movie Saturday...bad example of bandster life I've set for Wavy. Did find Kristen a dress for her social...this is what she ended up with...she looks too damn old in it...but have to admit the dress looks good on her. http://www.torrid.com/store/product.asp?LS=0&RN=312&ITEM=596811 I still have to get a dress for the cruise...want to be down another size by then...so kinda of reluctant to buy a dress now.

Just banded and full of questions
jen120 replied to Tuckersmommy2010's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well congrats on the surgery and sorry that your doc isnt the best. 1. My doc says no Protein shakes/drinks AT all. Do you agree? ( because i don't at all, nor does anyone i talked with ) I was on protein shakes made with Water then milk, Jello, broths, water for 2 weeks after surgery with a goal of getting 60 grams of protein. I must admit toward the end of the 2 weeks I started with some yogurt, smooth Soups, cottage cheese. 2. Two weeks of broth & juice ( no milk,..ect ) 3.Do you have the stitches removed or do they dissolve? I had the super glue to close me up. No issues. Could take a shower 1 day after surgery. 4. Should i be taking any Vitamins or something? I'm getting at most 500 cals a day. I was told not to start vitamins until 2 weeks after surgery. LIke the above poster, must be chewable or liquid. 5. What did you eat the first week, second week & then finally at a month? See above for first 2 weeks, week 3 added soft Proteins like eggs, cheese, sliced lunch meat, tuna, Beans. Week 4 could add regular protein like nuts, chicken breast or steak (small bites and chew very, very carefully these are notorious for ) 2 months after surgery we can add carbs. Not because our stomachs cant take it, just because they want us to focus on protein. 6. Can you take Gas EX? Yes...My doctor also said I could start taking my other meds 1 day after surgery but to take 1 at a time with plenty of water. Any big pills had to be split or crushed (ask pharmacist or doctor before crushing cause some pills cant be) Good luck on this exciting journey! -
Ask your surgeon about HMF Replete. I took this last year after my chiropractor recommended it. Here's a link and you can do your own research: http://www.rockwellnutrition.net/product.asp?itemid=242. My husband's surgeon approved it for him after he had colon surgery and said it would be very good for him to take it. It is kind of expensive, but it offers the human strain of the "good bacteria" similar to what is found in yogurt in the dairy form. I'm glad you brought this up b/c I will add this to my list of questions for my surgeon as I am preband. Best of luck whatever you decide to do. I hope you get relief very soon.

Hi, I am one week today from having surgery, I started at 234, lost about 10 pounds before going in, and got weighed today and I'm 212.5! I want to get to 150. I'm a little uncomfortable, and sick of the shakes already, and all the liquid. I find that popsicles and greek yogurt bars help. Need to get my energy back , but I know in time it will come back. good luck to all!

Protein sources other than shakes
Unforgettable replied to KatieKateKate's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My fav Protein snack is Fage total 0% greek yogurt. You can mix anything in with it and it will take on that flavor. By itself it taste like sour cream, so I will use it as dipping for chicken, etc to boost the protein even more. Mixed with sweets, tastes delicious. My new fav is 1/2 cup greek yogurt with 1 tbsp reduced fat PB - so good!! Also, if you mix a ranch dip powder with it, you can use it to dip veggies in and you're getting your protein and veggies. I'm in love with it! On a side note, I tried carbmasters from Krogers on post op day 2 and it sent me into dry heaves...I think I'm sensitive if there's too much artificial sweetener -

Will my life change forever? scared to death...
LighterSmarter posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi, I have been reading every single post on this site. I am 50 yrs old, 270 pounds, 33 BMI, 6'4". I have been overweight my entire life - with the usual yoyo in weight. I am scheduled for a sleeve in July with Dr. Aceves, but I am very scared. I am not worried about the surgery itself, as I think I will be in good hands. I am worried about the aftermath. 1) The pain of liquid diet in the first month 2) How soon after surgery can i go to work. 3) but most importantly - does it mean that my social life will be over. We love going out to restaurants- does it mean that it's game over? will I ever be able to eat more than a spoon of yogurt? I would love to hear from other sleevers about their life after the surgery - months after the surgery, not the first few weeks. Can you go out, can you drink alcohol (one glass of wine is enough), what do you do in family BBQ events, etc? Thanks -
I'm always tighter n the morning. I first have a cup of coffee, then wait 10 minutes and have yogurt and a banana. The coffee relaxes the band. Try having coffee or tea first and see if that helps. Also if your last fill was recent, you can be actually very tight and as you lose a few lbs, it will feel more comfortable. Keep up the good work.

Don't be discouraged! 19 lbs is awesome!! My first couple days of soft food I made tuna salad (tuna, eggs, a little light mayo, and a small piece of pickle) I blended in my ninja until it was about baby food consistency. I also eat Greek yogurt for breakfast. Today I ate an egg (well, most of it anyway) that was mushy/runny. Tonight I'll try to make chicken salad but I plan on leaving it just a little chunkier than my puréed tuna- just so I can slowly get used to a thicker consistency- baby steps. I hope this helps you!

BEST tasting protein shake?
success150 replied to Allisonmscott86's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't know of any name brand Protein shakes but I make my own. I use the greek yogurt, strwbrry flavored, a banana and some silk milk. I throw it all in the blender and mix it up. The banana takes care of the tartness of the yogurt and the silk milk helps to sweeten things up a bit. Give it a try and let me know what you think. I was banded on July 12th, 2011. I just had my 3 month check up on the 11th of October and no adjustments to date. I don't crave junk food and I can swallow normally now. For a while though I had a sticky situation. Yeah, food was getting stuck quite a bit. Anyways, I'm all better now and it feels good to be able to eat and drink with out suffering. Well, let me know about the shake. good luck finding something to fit those taste buds.
