    Is anyone just doing weight training and losing weight? If so what are you doing sets,reps and how many days a week? I have a heel spur and cant do cardio like I want to. Thanks

    I have been hitting the gym 6-7 days a week. My personal trainer (the 1 free session that comes with my membership) has me doing a minimum of 45 min cardio every day. Abs every day I go and then alternate between arms and legs every other day. She told me to do 2 sets of 15 on all the machines. i asked her about how to determine the proper weight for each machine, and she said that by the 8th rep it should start to burn a little bit so that by the 15th you are pushing through to finish the set. No burn by 8 = too light. Burn before 8 = too heavy. So far, yes I am losing weight. Good luck to you!!!

    Weight training is great for losing weight, also as you weight train try carideo with it 3 to 4 time's a week. walking is great way to lose pounds. And it's the easyest way to get exercise beside's Swimming! Easy on your Knee's and Back! Make walking ( Your Personal Challenge? To your self ) Just get out there and walk. start out slow like I did one mile at a time. In a week or two add some more distance every week go alittle bit farther! As for weight do lots of Rep's with lite weight. then build up after a while you will START SEEING MORE MASS AND YOUR BODY WILL START TO TONE UP! IF YOU CAN TRY WALKING 20 MINUTE'S 5 TIMES A WEEK, MAKE TIME TAKE TIME FOR YOUR SELF! YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!! THE ADD. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!! IF YOU NEED MORE HELP LET ME NO, AND I, WILL MAKE YOU A WORK OUT ROUTINE! GOOD LUCK GOD BLESS.   4. I was just wondering if anyone else had the same requirement. My surgeon will not do surgery unless you have had a psych evaluation from the doctor he refers you to. Supposedly this Dr. is extremely familiar with WLS. I have been seeing a psychiatrist for a couple of years now and I'm on anti-depressants. My psychiatrist is totally supportive of me having the lap-band, and offered to write a letter for me when we first discussed the surgery. I'm not thrilled with the fact that I have to go see a stranger who happens to know a lot about WLS, but not me! I would think my psychitrist who I have been seeing for over 2 years would know better than anyone if I am "mentally" capable of handling the surgery and that I am totally committed to weight loss!     SLEEP APNEA!

    hi there, i had sleep apnea before i had the band and had it really bad, so as to say when i came out of surgery they battled to wake me and get my qxygen saturation levels back to normal, but an hour or so later i was up and about and since loosing weight have lost the sleep apnea, and my bad snoring.

    I'm back!!!

    Congratulations! Fairy... I never posted much on here but I followed your last pregnancy. My band baby was born in October. I have just got back down to the weight I was before I got pregnant. (not the low weight of my pregnancy since I lost 20 pounds at the beginning of my pregnancy.) It has been a bit harder since I had the baby... but I am getting back on track. I hate that I lost 15 months... but it is all good. Good luck with this pregnancy. I hope all is well.

    Hey, My name is Katie and I am brand new to all of this. My doctor and I have been discussing lap banding this past summer and I have decided to go ahead with it. I am hoping to schedule my surgery in the middle of December. Honestly, I am terrified. It's a lot to deal with. But I have a genetic spinal disease that makes exercise hard and I have been struggling with my weight for most of my life. So this seems like the best chance I have to deal with my health issues and have the normal life I have always dreamed of. So yeah... that's me. I am glad I found you guys. :biggrin: Katie*
  8. Hi Everyone! I have been checking this forum out for the past few days and just registered today. There is so much knowledge and support available here. It should be a requirement for patients to register for this site! I am currently saving for my lap band surgery since my insurance doesn't cover it. My main reasons for having surgery are for my future health. Diabetes and heart disease run rampant in my family and it's just a matter of time before I am diagnosed. Also, my joints have been really bothering me lately. I went through the posts and have seen numerous questions regarding excess skin, cosmetic surgery etc..... What I ask may seem to repeat other posts however I want to see if there are others my height, size shape etc.. that can tell me their experiences. I am 33 years old, have never had children and am engaged to be married. I have been overweight my entire life however I have always remained active. In High School I was a 3 sport champion athlete yet still managed to graduate weighing 235lbs. I am tall (5'10) and my body has always been pretty well proportioned. My great grandmother was 6'6 350lbs (I'm not kidding!!) :smile2: I have always had a lower "pooch" belly but it does not hang down real low like a lot of others that I have seen. I've always been told that I have a shapely figure. (just a bigger one) My weight is currently at 305lbs. I wear a size 42D bra and wear a size 24 at Lane Bryant. I have steadily put on weight since High School and have not lost or gained anything significant other than 25lbs on weight watchers. Unfortunately, my lower stomach now has an upstairs neighbor. I've had stretch marks since I was young however all of the stretch marks that I have are very faint and thin. I can still see them if I really look but they are nothing like the stretch marks that I have seen on some people that have had children. I know that everyone is different but I am wondering how many other people like me faired with their skin bouncing back after weight loss.. Are my chances good that my skin won't be saggy since I will lose weight slower than gastric bypass? I appreciate all responses........ Thanks for listening....   10. So, 19 months post op, after an 85 lb loss and very successful surgery (I have been at goal weight for 9 months), I decided to have a breast lift in both and reduction in one. That happened a week ago and all is well! I posted my story on my blog, so take a look. Most of you know I did a weekly blog for the first year of life after the sleeve and posted faithfully every Sunday. I stopped after a little over a year, but thought this was worthy to share. I thought I would need implants but after some research, found out that a lift and reduction would be best and I am so happy not to have implants! I am almost 60 but for the first time in my life I now have nice breasts! My blog is www.queenofcrop.com I have more details of what happened there and yes, there are photos (that I couldn't post here). Haven't been on the forum for a while so I'm sure there are lots of new people here....hope everyone is having a very successful time of it. The forum was so helpful for me in my first year!

    How are y'all doing?

    Nervous that I will not get off meds or even reduce them I was banded in April partly in hopes of getting off my type 2 diabetes meds before having to go on insulin. I had about 50 pounds to lose. Unfortunately, my blood sugar levels are just a little bit less that before my surgery and I have lost 36 pounds so far. I am still running around 200 or more. I don't want to get on insulin. I joined the Y and am starting to exercise. My doctor told me that when I hit around the 50 pound mark is when I will see a change in my glucose readings...although I have read that many saw that change immediately at the time of surgery. I am a little nervous that this surgery and loss of weight will not affect my blood sugar and that I will be one of the few who did not get that benefit. Anyone out there that this has happened to?:tongue_smilie::cursing:

    Is this too much food?

    Yep. I included avocado from the beginning. And later grape tomatoes. They are my "treat" after protein and veg is done. But even now, I limit them to 1oz each by weight on a scale. They are total slider foods and measure about 1/4c by volume. At first I only did 1/2oz avocado. You def need to make it fit within your calorie window. I used it as my fat for the meal.
  13. Hi everyone [emoji5], I'm about to change my life for the better. After years of weight-loss struggles due to hysterectomy and hormones I finally got up the nerve to walk into a weight-loss clinic and forever change my life. Scary as it seemed the team at the center were and are beyond helpful and kind. Not only that but my Dr. Had bypass surgery himself so he knows all the struggles we will face. My greatest shock is I've suffered for 24 years with GERD and the Dr said you have a hienal hernia let's knock that out and get you a gastric sleeve and put this behind you. So here I am headed for scope and ultrasound next week then to the next step. Today I weight 236 at 5'4 yet I'm beautiful so I can not wait to find that hot mama [emoji7]just dying to be set free.     Typical day 7 weeks post

    I pretty much eat whatever I want, just in much smaller quantities now. Of course I want chocolate and chips but those are not on the healthy food list. Looking back on when I was first banded, I lost 12 lbs the first 2 weeks and then nothing for the next 3.5 months. After my 3rd fill I finally had enough restriction to feel less hungry. Up to this point(4 months out), I ate as healthy as I could so I didn't gain more weight. You're doing fantastic so far, just keep eating healthy and go for a fill as soon as you can. I too felt like I could eat anything and had no restriction till that 3rd fill. It will come. tmf
  15. Just curious as to what your daily diet looks like. I'm 7 weeks post and I pretty much have no restrictions. Also I haven't had a fill yet so I lost 17lbs so far but nothing these past few weeks. I'm hoping after my fill the weight starts to come off again. I still have 50 more to go. Thanks
  16. Hi, I'm Laura and I had my RnY revision surgery August 6, 2010. From that date until last year when I left my husband, I had lost a total of 140lbs. BUT, I. The last year I have gained 31 lbs, have totally disregarded my post op diet and am totally disgusted with myself. I want to get back on track, but I am lacking the proverbial "kick in the ass"!! Lol. I live near Cornwall ON Canada. Maybe we could be support for each other?

    Beckyjorm...... I had my 2nd RNY 3 weeks ago. I gained back 80 lbs. original surgery in 2004 lost 130lbs. So far I've lost 17lbs but I'm trying really hard.

    Good morning everyone, I had my surgery done Sept 20,2012..I have gained 20 lbs since and I don't know where to start to get it off. I have to admit that I don't exercise. I used to walk at the park but lately I have just been going with the flow eating whatever. I also notice that I can eat more now than before over the last 2 years. Any suggestions on Protein rich foods that can help me stay full longer so that I won't snack as much. Please help!
  19. I just had my 2nd RNY, the first surgery developed an opening and was making me sick for 3 years. Insurance took 8 months to approve corrected surgery. I had gained 40 lbs back after 16 years. I was 425lbs and down my lowest 235lbs . New surgery start weight 275 3wks post op down to 225lbs.

    Yes. It doesn’t bother me either. Unfortunately the onus is on us to follow a proper diet and exercise to continue to lose weight. Just like before surgery. The good news is after losing a large amount of weight it’s easier to stay on track.

    Kettlebells and other ways to tone a bit

    Body weight exercises are going to be the cheapest- no equipment required. There is a good YouTube channel "You are your own gym". Resistance bands are super cheap at Wal-Mart and can give good workout too. I made my post-surgery lifestyle a baseline expectation for our household budget because I knew that eventually the surgery DOES stop working and it is ONLY my choices at that point that will amount to longterm success.   22. There have been several posts recently about emotional eaters so I thought I'd post a different spin. I am a lazy eater. And when I'm stressed I DON'T eat. It's like I am punishing myself; yes, it's a kickback from being sent to bed w/o dinner for some perceived behavior as a child from my abusive parents. So food has never been a comfort for me, but a necessity. In a twist, I still abused eating as an adult because I'd grab what was handy and easy, which usually translated to junk food. I didn't feel like I deserved good food. And...let's face it, it's easier & faster to slurp down a bowl of mac n' cheese than bother with a steak & broccoli. I was sleeved 8/21 and have been doing remarkably well. Except this week. I just noticed this morning that I am slipping back into my old habits. I'm relying on readymade Protein Drinks and Atkins bars. Sure, I'm under my calorie intake and getting Protein, but it sure isn't healthy! Pre-sleeve I don't think I would have caught myself slipping back to my unhealthy habits. I noticed it because I faithfully log into MFP and review my food. I have discovered that I must have easy foods like cooked shrimp at my fingertips or I just won't bother to eat. And my metabolism is so screwed up that my body holds on to everything it can when I don't eat. And I don't lose weight. So food addictions/issues has many, many faces and I'm glad here on VST we can share & help each other.
  23. oh my this is exactly what i needed to see, i got a morning dose of reality on this one. I am too a lazy eater. I decided to as of yesturday that i was tired of logging food everyday and working out 4-5xs a week and said i was going to give my body and mind a break from loosing weight for 2 weeks. Is this a good choice probably not and is it lazy hell to the yes. But i feel like sometimes i get so wrapped that i all i do is plan my meals and stress about the weight. I grab easy foods all the time . Morning yogurt or coffee and protein, lunch i get grilled chicken or a taco and just eat the inside and dinner well those meals i do have to cook. I know i wanted this surgery and am forever grateful and love seeing that scale go down. So even with all that said I am doing the 2 weeks break will I eat junk no but i will not log what i eat or plan, my sleeve will let me know i have had enough and i will still make the better choice in foods so wish this lazy eater luck the next 2 weeks .

  25. Losing weight with the band is not fast. Some do lose fast in the beginning but that is rare. Normal weight loss is 1 to 2lbs a week. There isn't any sense in getting upset, discouraged, or want to give up because you are a month post op or a few weeks and you haven't lost 70lbs. You didn't gain weight over night. It was a period of years of bad eating habits that caused you to gain 100 to 200lbs so getting it off in a short amount of time unless you are starving yourself is not going to happen. If there are those who lost weight quickly then good for them but it took me 3 years and of absolutely no cheating to get all my weight off. If you are a smoker and quit smoking it is even going to take you longer. Yes I know that from personal experience. You can't drop weight rapidly with the band unless you are some circus freak that lost 200lbs in a month. It's not a fast process but it works if you just allow it. 52lbs weight loss in a year is better then 52lbs of weight gain. A loss is a loss no matter how you lose it or how long it takes you to lose it. Be patient it will come. Rome wasn't built over night and neither is the road work here in Jacksonville done over night. More like a period of years. Stop weighing yourself everyday. If you can't wrap your head around the scale that your weight can fluctuate up to 9lbs because of Water weight then stop being a scale monger. Weigh yourself at your doctors office. The more you weigh yourself and get discouraged the more likely you are setting yourself up for failure. It's not a race and you don't have to be the first one to the finish line. Stop letting the scale wreck your day or month. Just do what you are supposed to and it will happen.
